I got a small foot tattoo done here about a year ago and had a great experience. I came already knowing exactly what I wanted, with a design ready, and they did a perfect job executing it. The price was very reasonable, everything was clean and comfortable, and the tattoo looks great.
I do, however, agree with other reviewers who mentioned a weird vibe, especially when you first come in. I felt like I wasn't quite cool enough to be a customer, but I pushed through it and the rest of the experience was totally positive.
One last thing: I came to Ambrotos a few years ago wanting to get a tattoo on the inside arch of my foot. They wouldn't do it. I get it, they don't wear well &c. But it was what I wanted, and I finally convinced another place to do it. (And I love it!) This time Ambrotos had no problem doing a foot tattoo on my heel. I guess having one foot tattoo helps make the case that you understand what you're signing up for and won't end up being an unhappy customer.
Bottom line: Great prices, great work, 100% recommend.
This is the best shop in the area. Period! Owner is honest, excellent artist and wonderful human being. Rest of staff cares about what you want and give you the best. Â Memorial tattoos, Japanese style and clasic style all in the same shop along with new styles. Thet appeal to everyone. Also VERY CLEAN!!
Review Source:Ambrotos did such a great job on the first piercing I had done there, I went back today & got a vertical labret! Meghan was so friendly & put me at ease because I was very nervous this time around. Very clean & sterile, you walk in, fill out the paperwork & she preps the room for you. She was great, highly recommend coming here for your piercing needs. I brought my daughter so we could find out the age for piercings. Its 16 with parental consent & a state or federal photo ID. She'll be back on her 16th birthday :) I will continue to come to Ambrotos for piercings and hopefully a few tattoos I have in mind, I know they will do an amazing job! I also got sea salt for aftercare & was told should I have any questions, call or drop back in. Two thumbs up & five stars!!
Review Source:I got my nose pierced here last summer. It was my second piercing- I'd had my tragus pierced earlier in the year from a different shop. I believe they had a deal for nose piercings at the time- $30-$35? It was fairly cheap. However, it seems my experience with Vanessa is different from that others have had. I didn't really have many questions, but was generally trying to be friendly by talking with Vanessa about the jewelry. Coming from someone who isn't overly bubbly herself, I found her to be very terse and blunt. When I wanted to bring a friend back to the room with me, she (not so) kindly informed us that it was not allowed. OK, cool, no problem. Once I was back in the room she seemed to warm up a bit, but she didn't thoroughly explain the healing/cleaning process. I had to ask lots of questions that I thought I already knew the answers to (from my previous piercing), but wanted to verify since this was a different location with a longer healing time.
My other complaints were that they didn't carry H2Ocean (best way to clean a piercing) and the only option they had for a new nose piercing was a tacky fake rhinestone stud. I got it switched out to something a little more neutral as soon as I could, after a few months when the swelling had mostly subsided (purchased from Bethesda Tattoo Co.).
I'm willing to accept that maybe I caught Vanessa on an off day, as she seems to have plenty of other good reviews. Oh well.
I've gone to Ambrotos for two tattoos and two piercings over the last few years. Always had quality work in a clean setting without the long wait; tattooed quickly as well. I got snowflakes done beautifully today and brought along my freshly turned 18 yr. old cousin for his first tattoo. A year ago I introduced my other cousin to the place, so this is definitely a place I go and refer others. Admittedly, it is a bit pricier but once it's all done, it's totally worth knowing you have an amazing piece of art that you can pretty much feel safe knowing there is very minimal risk of infection. I listen to customers' reactions to Bill's big personality, but based on my couple of interactions, he's really cool, hilarious and intelligent if you ever talk to him one on one. I miss Tim who did my ankle tattoo, but he is at the Germantown location which is good to know. Bottom line, I highly recommend, because artists with knowledge and a true passion are rare these days. Catch their specials that run multiple times throughout the year!
Review Source:I really enjoyed my experience in Ambrotos Tattoo. The staff was very helpful, and the artist Jay was very patient with me. I had my design but he gave me some ideas. It turned up a perfect job, just what I wanted.
The studio was very comfy, friendly environment, nice music, and very clean.
I can't wait to come back with another idea of a tattoo.
I Love this place.
I had my septum and tongue pierced here. My piercer Vanessa was very friendly, very professional and helpful. Everything was so sterol and clean, you would think you're at the doctors office. Not to mention that for the terrific service they provide, It's quiet cheap, I payed $80 bucks for both piercing with after the jewels and after care. That's pretty freakin nice.
I HIGHLY RECOMEND Ambrotos Tattoo for your Tattoo and piercing needs!
Stamp of Aproval and 2 thumbs up!
Hrmmm. I was pierced here a while ago but Ambrotos still deserves a review. I actually came in to get a piercing which I don't wear anymore oh wells. I got pierced by an Asian girl I can't really remember her name maybe Jess or something... after a week I'll remember. The piercing was successful but she gave me the wrong size jewelry thinking my lip was the size of a fucking thumb or something. I know black people can have big lips but COME ON. I paid like 30 bucks for that piece of junk jewelry that didn't fit anywho. Whateverrrrr.
Clean and professional. Just make sure you're piercers are giving you the correct size jewelry because we all know its final sale and no one likes to waste their money.
Came back for another piercing recently. Apparently the people in front were not aware of a $5 Check-in special on Yelp, but they honored it anyway on top of the $35 back-to-school piercing deal. Yay!
I had a different piercist this time. Vanessa has plenty of piercings herself, which may seem intimidating at first, but she is super sweet. She explained the steps and aftercare thoroughly, and prepared me for the possible bleeding after tragus piercings. Even though the jewelry wasn't cooperating for a little bit and I started getting worried, she stayed calm and I was done in no time.
Woohoo for another great experience with Ambrotos!
Chris did my belly button ring piercing and was really nice. She totally got my nervousness and walked me through it. I totally wanna have her do my tattoos next. I am really pleased with the place. It is really clean looking and they make sure that they take all yr information down. I went back a while later and had her look at it. She was really cool!!
Review Source:Got my first tattoo from Ambrotos about 3 years ago from a dude named Tim. He did a great job on my tramp stamp (haha) so I went back to look for  him when I was ready for another tat. Sadly, he was gone. I took a look at the portfolios lying around and I really liked Violet's work. Came back a few days later when she was in and explained my idea- just a bunch of random stars in different sizes and colors and about the size of my hand on my clavicle/chest area. She drew something up in maybe 15-20 mins and it was pretty close. She  added some starbursts and BAM- my tattoo was ready!
She was pretty cool the whole time she was working on it and made small talk to distract me. Because I'm super ticklish, I kept holding my breath and that led me to me getting light headed and having to take a break (I know, what a dork). Violet was patient and didn't have an attitude, just told me to take deep breaths and take my time collecting myself. I was done in about an hour. A couple of the lines are slightly shaky but in fairness, I know I jumped a couple of times because it tickled. All in all, I like my tat and am happy with it. 8 months later, the color looks fresh and I get lots of compliments on it.
Ambrotos only gets 3 stars b/c even though the Violet and Tim were helpful and skilled, every single time I have been in there the staff ignores customers and acts like they're doing people a favor by talking to them. I don't expect a parade for coming in but at least be polite! Also, it's expensive but you get what you pay for. The place is wayyyy cleaner than other shops I've been in, the aftercare was always explained clearly, and I've never gotten an infection.
Also had a really good experience with Darryl, despite the fact that I was just about the least desirable tattoo customer possible. (My only defense is that it was right on my ribs and, between trying to breathe normally and trying to distract myself from the pain, I was 10 kinds of a pain in the ass.) He was very patient with me and laughed it off when I apologized, mortified, after everything was over. Darryl, if you happen to be reading this, your good attitude was highly appreciated and I'm sorry I was such a wuss!
Review Source:I am a huge fan of Ambrotos. I have been going there for 10 years with new crazy ideas for tattoos and they are always supportive. If you talk to these people, they are so interesting. They make you feel like part of the family for the time you are there and they are very skilled. They admit that they are more expensive than some other tattoo salons, but they are also more clean and knowledgeable about their trade.
Anything not tattooed on the legs or arms are subject to a price increase. I'm not sure why, but thats what they say! I'd also recommend Bill or Violet. They are quick with the needle and efficient with time and have great skill!
If you are going to get a tattoo here I recommend going to Bill. I respect his work. I don't like the vibe of the place where you are barely acknowledged. I have gotten two tattoos here and both the artists weren't working there after a couple of months. So I was left with a large tattoo that wasn't completed.
I left multiple messages for the owner to call me back in regards to it and never heard a word.
I got my 1st big tattoo done here. I am super pleased with my butterflies (check out the pics!) They almost look like real butterflies. At first they charged my $800 ($400 per butterfly), then the artist was like "that's retarded, it shouldn't be more than $250 per..." They already rang up my card, but they were able to refund me half of what they charged. I left my artist a really nice tip b/c he noticed the mistake... So when you go make sure you work out your price 100% with everyone! I will definitely go back for another tattoo, as soon as I save up the $$$!
Review Source:I've gotten silly impulsive and well thought out important tattoos here. I was referred here by a friend with a really well done sleeve and then referred my mom and sister. I have a tattoo related to my work. After a bit I realized tons of people in my field have the same one. It made me so glad I got a good artist who knew what they were doing. Mine looks so much better than the others I've seen. I've also been to plenty other tattoo/piercing shops and Ambrotos is way cleaner than average for the area. I've seen 3 different guys there... Bill, Wes, and another guy I can't remember.
Review Source:I love Ambrotos. Its where i got half of my tattoos. [Two out of four.] My first impression was that it was a bit small but upon going in and looking around, I saw that it was very clean. Ive gotten all my work done by Wes... I wish I knew his last name to tell you guys because he does really great work. And even though he does have an odd sense of humor, he was funny and made me feel really relaxed. Everyone there is really nice. I will defintly be going back to get more work done.
