I've only been for their Friday the 13th $13 tattoo special so not quite fair to judge on larger pieces. But I was there for something like a combined total of 4+ hours and had a lot of time to observe the artists and shop staff, and everyone seems pretty awesome. Very friendly, professional, extremely clean, great old school flash art on the walls, comfortable waiting room with ample seating, comfortable chairs while being tattooed, and pretty excellent choices for the 13th specials. I've been to one other Friday 13th special at a shop down in SD, and it pales in comparison to what this shop offered as far as choices, staff, organization, and cleanliness.
I got my black cat tattoo, and it looks great. I was tattooed by Chris who was very kind, patient, worked quickly, and really did a great job. The lines are so clean, the shading is perfect, and it's everything I wanted it to be. Would totally come here again!
I love American Tattoo. I started coming here in 2010 after being dissed and disappointed at Body Temple. Sarah did a huge tree on my leg... I've since made it into a leg sleeve and added on Thumper and Miss Bunny, a blue bird, an owl, and 14 butterflies.
The line work is awesome, the price is fair, and the shop is ALWAYS clean. They take really good care of their customers and they always listen.
I saw someone say they had a bad experience with Sarah - but honestly she must have just had an off day, because she is always willing to listen to the customer and re-work stuff. Communication is key, if you don't like something, speak up! It is going to be on your body forever, they want to please you - but they are artists too, so give them some wiggle-room.
I can't see myself ever going anywhere else. I'm an American Tattooee for life. ;)
I got my first tattoos today here (done by Hunter) and it was amazing. I was terrified at first, but the environment automatically calmed me down. Everyone has a good sense of humor and it's just enjoyable.
Good price, too!

I have gone to Hunter Feirich for every tattoo I have gotten in the last 4 years. His work is absolutely incredible! Every piece has been drawn without flaw, I have yet to have something changed with his design that he has drawn upon arrival. Not to mention he is a perfectionist down to every last detail. Never have I received so many compliments on how well done the line work and over all piece looks on any other tattoo. Having relocated to WI, Â I still plan to make the trip to Hunter for any future tattoos. The quality of work is worth the trip! In addition, every person I have recommended has nothing but positive reviews of the shop, and top notch ink to show for it.

I first came to American tattoo in 2005 and have been back more times than my mom would have liked. I had a 3/4 sleeve done by another artist, I was worried about continuing it down to my wrist worrying about having a bad transition. Sam Phillips did an amazing job working with what was there and creating the perfect piece. Since then he has almost finished another full sleeve on my other arm. Sara, another artist did did an amazing rib piece for my wife. She took a tattoo from my arm and made it more feminine just the way she wanted it. She also did a great job working with my wife even though she was quite the fidgety squirmer. Â I always recommend going to American Tattoo for any tattoo. Remember, they last forever, make sure you chose an artist who cares about their art, not just your money
Review Source:I scheduled a consult apt with Sarah and drove 90 miles for my apt. When I get there Sarah honestly spends 3 minutes with me. I was under the impression that she would at least sit down with me and brain storm a little... Nope I was able to stand next to her chair and it was obvious she either forgot about about our apt or didnt really care for a new customer. I specify said I didn't want a cover up but wanted to add on to an existing tattoo. She took a picture and said she needs a $60 deposit to schedule an apt. So I gave her $60 and she said she would send me some ideas and her availability via email. 3 weeks later she finally sends me an email with no drawings but thinks she can do a cover up with a snake--have not heard a word from here since. I am very upset because it took me nearly a year to find Sarah and thought she was going to be perfect. I am sure her work is amazing and all that....but for me it didnt work out. i am way more upset about driving the 90 miles and spending 3 minutes with Sarah.
Review Source:Big fan of Sarah and her work. I've gotten a couple of tattoos done by her and they came out better than I could have even imagined. She is a really cool chick, fun to be tattooed by, and most importantly, incredibly talented. When I find a business or person that is really outstanding, I become pretty loyal and will be going to Sarah as long as I live in the area.
The remodeled shop is really cool and has a laid back vibe which I really like. Highly recommended and I will definitely be going back to get more work.
I have had several pieces done by Sarah Spinks. She has great attention to detail, and strives to make each tattoo as best as possible. She is awesome at black and grey, as well as color. I have seen work done by the other artists at the shop, and it all appears to be top notch. Pretty cool shop.
