Well holy crap! I'm very tattooed and have been in hundreds of shops all over the us and I was impressed with this one. Â Its sergiclly clean. And the goofy looking dude in the back (Dominick) impressed me enough with his work, I've got an appt this week! Â Watching him grind on some skinny chicks ribs long enough to see he has really got talent. Her squirming was minimal. Â She seemed as relaxed as one can be when getting ribs done. It wasn't swelling or bleeding like I've seen tattoos on a boney parts. Â I'm excited!
Review Source:I got my tattoo at Big Brain when I was 16 (my mom had to sign a waiver for it). Four years later and the tattoo still looks as good as the day I got it. All I got was a cross with a rose entwined but the artist manage to give it a bit of attitude while still keeping it simple, religious, and appropriate for me to be able to reveal at work functions! They are also very clean. Love them.
Review Source:I absolutely love Big Brain. I've gotten 3 of my 11 tattoos there, and it's only because I joined the Navy shortly after tattooing age, so I've only be able to schedule semi simple ones in the few times I go home. My first tattoo was the Avenged Sevenfold deathbat done by Josh on my upper back/ base of neck area. I abosolutely love it. The quailty is barnone the best quality tattoo I have thus far. I love their work, and their quality is definitely worth the price. I wish I could go to Big Brain for all of my tattooing needs, but unfortunately I'm too far away to make this my base of operations. I do base each tattoo shop I decide to get work done off of how they compare to Big Brain though. Very very good quality work coming out of this shop, I'm surprised there aren't better reviews on here. Super professional as well. I wish there were more stars to give them.
Review Source:Looks like a typical tattoo/piercing parlor. On one side of the wall, there are 8 flat screen TVs for each of the artists to show off their style in designing tattoos. This is helpful for customers to choose which artist they would like to have.
BB is clean and surprisingly large in size. The staff are friendly, and they use new instruments before performing on a patient.
I went in one time to watch a friend get the middle of her chest pierced, and the piercer opened a bag with sterilized unused instruments in it - indicating that this parlor is safe.
However, I did think that their price for ear piercings was expensive. $50 to get a second piercing on my earlobes. I just went to Claire's instead.
For piercing, I give them 5 stars (I've had my nose done twice through no fault of theirs, my orbital completed, and my nipples done). Â They're professional, friendly, and have usually given me a pretty sweet discount. Â Smitty, and one of his apprentices (sorry I don't remember your name) are my faves.
For tattoos, Mel gets a 3. Â I was really disappointed that, because she was gone for about a month, rather than looking at the drawing I brought, or talking to me, they looked in their picture database for something to base the tattoo off of (so that I had to keep saying, yeah, sort of like that, but more like the drawing I brought). Â I'm used to CUSTOM artwork, especially for the prices they charge (which aren't unreasonable, but not a great deal). Â Then, she scarred me in two different places. Â To be fair, the tattoo isn't awful, I can live with it. Â But I won't go back to her again.
BB is great. I also got a tattoo here when I was 18 (must be the thing to do?) The tattoo artist was really nice. He calmed my fears and made sure I was as comfortable as I could be. He gave me instructions on how to care for it and it didn't get infected or anything.
It's now 5 years later (God I feel old) and my tattoo still looks great. The color has held a lot better than some of my friends' have and we all got tattoos around the same time. This place always seems really clean and professional; I don't know where else I would go to get a tattoo.
When I worked downtown I got to know some of the guys here and so I got a tattoo when I was 18. Â At the time I was obviously thrilled... now that I know a little more about the process I suspect that I was tattooed by someone still learning... which, maybe I should have been told upfront. Â But like I said, when I was 18 I probably wouldn't have cared anyway.
Long story short, that particular tattoo is visibly raised up from those around it (which I've gotten since then). Â Did it not heal right, is it the result of the ultra heavy lines and tons of black ink it contains? Â Who knows, all I know is that I was impressed at the time... not so much now but I definitely don't regret it.
I don't really have any other experience or insight (that I can remember) about BB and have heard good things about them since. Â
That being said, everyone has different taste. So visit a couple of shops and talk with various artists until you find someone who fits in with your taste and can meet your needs.
Been in to Big Brain a few times with friends and family for various services (piercings and tattoos, obviously) and it's been the same experience every time.
I respect Big Brain for the steps they have taken in the metro area to keep parlors legitimate and safe for their customers.
There are some awesome artists here, and most of them are generally friendly, but some seem to let Big Brain's reputation go to their heads. In those situations it makes the whole experience a little less enjoyable.
That being said, I got my nose pierced here and it's healed alright, no complaints.
