I had a few tattoos that I wanted to have covered up (one was actually done by one of their former artists, and he pretty much mangled my arm to the point I was embarrassed to show it.) and was referred to TBG for their insanely cheap prices for laser removal. Â Come to find out, the low price came with a hitch. Â No topical pain killers. Â I bit the bullet and started the laser removal process. Â Laser tattoo removal is not for the faint of heart, but Jenni took great strides to make the experience bearable. Â It took 3 sessions to get the pieces faded enough to be covered up. Â I had some extensive scarring, but only because my skin reacted very badly to the treatments. Â After a few months of healing, I finally made the move to start the cover up process. Â Jenni referred me to Anya to do my half sleeve and I could not have been more pleased at the recommendation. Â She took my reference pictures and made them her own. Â I am so pleased I decided to go ahead and do a full sleeve. Â She's THAT good. Â I'll post pictures once the arm is complete.
My experience has been spectacular, even after being mauled by a previous artist. Â Their current artists are top notch and it would seem they are hand picked for their talents. Â I highly recommend this shop as the best in NoVA. Â Props to Jenni and Anya!
*Note, they no longer offer laser tattoo services. Â They now offer tat2away which apparently is a better means to go about it than searing hot lasers.
If you are looking for a great artist, then I highly recommend Anya Gladun. Both my husband and I have been to her for custom work and couldn't be happier with the results.
As far as tattoos go, do your research. Check out the shop and artist before making any decisions. I highly recommend a consultation to discuss your ideas beforehand. While they except walk-ins, you're guaranteed to get work done if you have an appointment.
Overall, I really like the setup of the Body Gallery. There is a long wall that separates visitors from the artists and those getting work done. You can easily stop by and check on the work being created without getting in the way. Obviously don't make a day of it but take the opportunity to peruse the various artists' portfolios.
Anya is easy to talk to and always checking in on you during the process. She has great stories to share and also gives you an opportunity to relax and focus on your breathing. ;)
It had been a few years since my last tattoo and I was getting the urge for another. Never had any work done here in Virginia though so I had to start the hunt for the perfect place. I think I found that in The Body Gallery. The business itself is VERY clean (exactly what you want for this type of work) and the staff was super friendly.
Anya Gladun did my tattoo and was amazing. It was easy to make an appointment and drop off the deposit (cash). The last one I had done was two hours of silence from a guy that had no personality. Anya was the complete opposite. Lots of fun to talk to and her work is outstanding. I highly recommend her and The Body Gallery.
While I didn't get my nose pierced here, I went her for a replacement ring. Â I was in the area and decided to stop in. Â This place is very immaculate. Â
The piercer, Jesse, was very kind and patient. Â He helped me change my piercing and taught me how to continue to care for it. Â While their prices were higher than what I paid, I think the customer service experience was worth the extra dollars.
It has been almost 3 years since I had my last tattoo done and it was definitely the right time. I knew about The Body Gallery for a while and when my artist, who I followed to the shop said she was working there, I was happy to hear it.
A few friends had work done here and they had nothing but good things to say about he shop. When I walked in, I was automatically greeted and a little taken back by the size of the shop. Definitely looks smaller from the outside. The shop was VERY clean and I even liked the art market place they have on the walls. Add to this some good tunes and I was ready to get some ink.
My artist, Pirkko Gomsi was great! We've talked about my design for a few months now and when I came in, she was ready with the sketch we discussed. Because I'm getting a half sleeve, the first session was only an outline. As the outline was going on, Pirkko was constantly asking and discussing future work and shading. LOVE IT! Her attention to detail is exceptional and as an artist, I couldn't have asked for a better person locally.
I highly recommend not only The Body Gallery but Pirkko Gomsi as well.
I've gotten three tattoos at the Body Gallery (when they were still in Sterling Plaza) and these guys are great. The place was really clean, the artists were pretty cool and non-judgemental, plus they were all crazy talented. The tattoos healed really well, and they still look new (a few years later). I had my work done by Jed, btw. Def recommend them!
Review Source:I've been here a few times, both for piercings and tattoos, and all experiences were most excellent. The place is CLEAN (one speck of dust at a place where I'm having needles jabbed repeatedly into my flesh and I'm walking out), the employees have the requisite "I'm a badass" attitude but are generally friendly and welcoming, and the pricing is fair, particularly for the work they do. I've seen Phil for my tattoos and Ben for my piercings, both of whom kick ass, but I've met a few of the others and would feel comfortable with them as well.
My first time there, I went with my supervisor and with us working in the medical field, we both wanted to see their cleaning and autoclave stations, which they were pretty proud to show off. We also got a brief tour of the place, which made both of us feel much more secure.
I get jittery and nervous before each tattoo, mostly because my little skin cells get hopping mad and turn red before every experience that involves releasing all them endorphins. The artists keenly picked up on this and promptly started making (light-hearted) fun, which helped me settle down and made my skin look a little less angry.
By the time I found this place, I already had a few other tattoos, so I had some idea of what to expect regarding pricing. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that I had enough cash to cover the tattoo, a generous tip, and the celebratory beers I had the next day. Again, this is a permanent thing, so it is an investment. But the fact that I had correctly planned ahead gave me a bit of joy.
My only complaint is that I've seen a few of the artists' girlfriends hanging out, who seem to enjoy giving the stink eye to any chickadee who dares flash a smile at their beaus. However, given the fact that there are some might fine looking dudes in there, I can't say I blame them. Protect your man, but like them strippers, let them do their thing, make their money, and then enjoy the fruits of their labor later on!
Like another review, I must have come in on an off day but my experience was not a good one. Â I know you need to make an appointment to actually have work done. Â I have gone to The Body Gallery in Leesburg many times to get work done, so I have some clue of the process. Â I wanted to speak to someone about an idea I had about about some work I wanted done. Â The guy behind the counter spoke to be briefly when I told him what I was thinking. Â He then proceeded to say, look at some of the artists portfolios and come back with some pictures and such. Â I know what I want and gave a pretty clear idea, but i thought the whole idea of custom means that you give some clear idea (which I have) and maybe work up a concept drawling. Â That is how I had done it with Lizzie when she worked out at the shop in Leesburg. Â I gave her the ideas and she drew up some the picture and I said yes or no. Â Simple. Â Nothing too out of control. Â I am not trying to be unreasonably, but I expect to be treated with a bit more then a brief word and essentially blown off. Â I understand that they were a bit busy, but it was like I was not even there. Â Just as another reviewer said, "He pointed me towards a counter full of portfolios and left me on my own with no suggestions or interest in what I wanted. He just went back to his computer and continued what he was doing before I "bothered" him. No one else paid a bit of attention. Very uncomfortable." Â I left with the worst taste in my mouth. Â I kind of don't even want to go back to that location or even the one in Leesburg. Â I have gotten several piercings and tattoos. Â I know that this might have been a freak incident at this location, BUT come on, where is the customer service, especially when people are paying hundreds of dollars for services. Â I think this is unacceptable for an established tattoo parlor. Â
The work from pretty much all the artists is excellent, but customer service is lacking and I would almost rather go some where else at this point. Â What a fail!!!!!!!!!!
I set up my appointment with Phil Watkins about 3 weeks ago and just had my work done 2 days ago. Â I can only say this about the whole experience:
AWESOME.
I went in for my consult and Phil was working on someone else, so Corey talked with me about what I wanted to get done and chatted with Phil about what I planned on at the same time. Â Corey took his time explaining everything top to bottom, even though I knew what to expect.
On the day of my inking, Phil showed me what he came up with and it was just amazing. Â He truly is a creative genius and came up with a really neat adaptation of what I wanted. Â We tweaked a few minor things, but he really knocked it out of the park. Â As far as his work, it's also awesome. Â Don't be afraid of the fact that he's only been doing this about 3+ years. Â He's well talented beyond that and I would recommend ANYONE pick him. Â I'm 35 and I'm very choosy when it comes to what goes on me and by whom, so this was obviously a great choice aside from Jenni. Â His lines are clean and straight and shading is awesome. Â I stuck with black and white with him, and definitely will go back to complete more work that I want to have done.
The store is very strict on their sanitary rules and that was evidenced by the fact that Phil probably changed his gloves like 8032 times while working on me and taking breaks. Â He had scrubbed the table down before and after working on me and made sure it was just a fantastic experience.
FINALLY, Â the atmosphere here is just friggin' great. Â You can't help but be here for 10 minutes without laughing with all the people here. Â There is a lot of positive energy here and I am coming back to see Phil again!
Oh, and one last thing. Â Their prices are WELL within reason. Â I went for a consult on the same work at other studios (in NYC and such) and they wanted over 1100 for the same thing I got done in 400. Â Not a bad deal at all. Â And I never look at prices when it comes to something this permanent, but it's just icing.
When my first microdermal, which I'd had for almost 5 years, got uppity and decided to reject I looked around to find a place in the area that works with them. Â This is the only place I know of that does, and the piercer scalpeled mine out for free because I told him I planned on coming back to get a new one in when the site healed. Â He did a great job, I could have left it out if I wanted because it healed up so nicely. Â I came back to get the new microdermal installed and it turned out great, even though I had quite a bit of internal scar tissue in the way from the old one. Â Healed fast, nice and level, all that jazz.
I've bought jewelry here as well. Â I got a few nose studs, and when the posts turned out to be too long I took them back and they redid the bends in the posts for me to make them fit better at no charge. Â I also went in looking for a real diamond stud for my microdermal and while they didn't sell them there they went out of their way to find the phone and fax number of a some-time supplier of theirs who they'd heard could make such a thing, and gave detailed instructions as to exactly how to describe the technical specifications of the product I wanted while ordering. Â That was a lot of effort to go to on their part for little to no direct benefit to them. Â I got what I wanted and they made a sale for somebody else.
I guess where I'm going with this is you WILL get your money's worth out of the customer service at this place. Â It's outstanding and I only wish I had more business to give them.
My experiences with the Body Gallery in Sterling have been consistently excellent! The staff is warm and friendly, and the facility itself is immaculate. I've been tattooed by the charming Billy three time (or "thrice", if you want to sound all fancypants - or Amish), and each piece has been quality work executed at a very reasonable price. I'm frequently asked for tattoo shop referrals by friends, co-workers, and strangers I meet on the street. I never hesitate to refer them to the Body Gallery.
Review Source:I'v been to the body gallery several times though only got work done once, Jenni did my first tattoo before she opened the body gallery and it has held up nicely. I think that the worst treatment was from the woman with very short blonde hair and referred to a friend of mine and I as "normies" which was incredible judgmental (ironically) because we came in in the dead of winter and were completely bundled up. but I have friends that got tattoos from Ben and they look awesome, Ben also did my friend's nipple piercing and did a fantastic job. All in all I thing that Ben is a really cool person and made my friend and I feel totally at ease while we were their. I got my conch pierced and I have two friends that got pierced by Jesse and he was way cool as well. Made us all feel comfortable and joked around while we were their. awesome job Ben and Jesse!
Review Source:Maybe I walked in on an off day but my experience was not a good one. I did not have an appointment but I walked in wanting to talk to someone about some custom work. The guy behind the desk didn't even look up until I asked if he could help me. He came over like I was bothering him and asked what I needed. I explained that I need some help with a design that I had partially completed. His answer was that they don't take walk-ins, they were "there for 5 years and are very popular." He then told me they are a custom shop and they "don't do any of that flash stuff." (Yes, after I told him I was looking for custom.) He pointed me towards a counter full of portfolios and left me on my own with no suggestions or interest in what I wanted. He just went back to his computer and continued what he was doing before I "bothered" him. No one else paid a bit of attention. Very uncomfortable. I left and will not go back. Traditions Tattoo was where I ended up and got exactly what I wanted.
UPDATED 12/9: Very positive response from Jenni regarding my issue. Extra stars back for resolving the problem. Thank you...
I went here looking for a new artist since i moved to the area. i walked in and was greeted and helped right away. after looking through the portfolio's i chose phil to do a piece for me. on appointment day, i was greeted and felt very welcome. Phil did an AMAZING job and i will definitely hit him up again for my next piece. The place was super clean, very friendly. its everything id want out of a shop. Thanks!! My tattoo even make it on to their twitter! i will be back for more!
Review Source:I got my first tattoo from Jenni at their old Sterling shop. Â From the first time I walked in I was treated better than any of the other local tattoo shops I had checked out. Â Jenni even put off eating the rest of her lunch to talk to me about my tattoo, and show me different fonts and colors that could be used. Â I ended up having to wait about 3 months to get the actual tattoo, but it was well worth the wait. Â When I arrived for my appointment she was all ready to go, and answered any question I had since it was my first tattoo. Â She showed me a few artistic changed she had made and they were all awesome. Â The tattoo ended up looking phenomenal, and I couldn't be happier.
I ended up going back about 6 months later to get it touched up (Jenni didn't do anything wrong, I wanted to add something) and again I was treated very well by the receptionist and Jenni. Â This time I got to go to the new Sterling shop and it was even better than the first. Â It seems a lot bigger, but just as clean as the original shop. Â They were a little slow that day, so just about everyone that worked there came over and chatted with me while I got my tattoo worked on. Â They all couldn't have been nicer. Â I'm now going back for my next tattoo in a couple days, and I can't wait. Â I won't ever bother looking for another shop to do my tattoo work. Â The Body Gallery is the best shop in the area!
So i have seen a many tattoo shops in my day from NYC, Boston, NH and VA and this place takes the cake! Â This shop not only has the MOST talented artists but a great overall staff. Â This is not your typical tattoo parlor folks, no stuck up arrogant people here. Â Everyone I encountered went above and beyond to help me and my friend who also got her tattoo done there. Â
We both had Joey for our artist and can't say enough nice things about this fella!! Â His work is exceptional and he specializes in coloring but truly can do anything!!! Â I had an intense piece done on my back that I wanted to coincide with my son's name that was already on there. Â He was honest, and truthful about the placement and what would look the best on me. Â BUT without being a total DBAG either, most artists I have dealt with have major attitude or just don't really give a shit this isn't the case with Joey. Â He loves his trade and you can see it in his work. Â
The prices are completely reasonable, I don't have the money tree in my backyard but I also want a tattoo that is going to be something I don't want to remove in 5 yrs because it looks like shit. Â That being said I found them to be definitely reasonable and weren't trying to take me for a ride! Â
From the shop managers to the other artists in the shop, they all are down to earth cool people. Â And if ya tired of the arrogance at some of the other shops come by this place you won't be sorry!!! Â Tell Joey i said HI!!
Both my husband and I are regular customers of Jenni's. We've been going to see her for years, before she opened her own shop, and we would follow her to the ends of the earth. Both of her shops are clean, professional and friendly. I have never seen a customer treated badly. Every artist here is talented and helpful, they will make sure you get the right tattoo! If you aren't sure of your design, ask them to help you with it! They are artists as well as tattoo artists, many people forget this in the process of designing!
For the record, the Sterling shop is in the process of MOVING to the Community Plaza shopping center at Drainsville Rd / Rt 7. First day they are open is Friday, April 1st! Stop in and see the new shop! It is BEAUTIFUL!
What else can I say that others haven't??
My husband was set on finally getting a tattoo, so naturally I did some research, too. While we were concerned about price, we didn't want to go cheap and have him end up with a terrible tattoo.
The reviews for The Body Gallery were all incredibly positive, so we decided to give them a call for a quote. They suggested coming in if possible and we decided that was probably best. We went in on a Friday night and were instantly happy with what we saw. The shop was VERY clean and not crowded in the least. There is a bar separating the artists from the mass of people waiting for ink/piercings, so you didn't have to worry about that either.
When we arrived, the lady helped us out by talking to the tattoo artists and showing us their work. She suggested Jaxn since he had done some similar work and he said he would probably be free later that day to squeeze him in.
We decided to come back and he got the work done that night- why not, right? Jaxn was an absolute genius and really worked with him to get it right. He even stayed 45 minutes after closing to finish his work. No rushing, no sense of urgency. Just complete concentration on his clients (and the occasional song).
10 days later and we're still thinking about how great this place was. For a first tattoo, it was a wonderful experience. They say getting ink is addictive, so if he gets another one I guarantee it'll be here :)
I love this place!! Both locations are great and everyone is super friendly and helpful when you walk in the door. Â
My experience with the Sterling office: Â I've gotten tattoo removal there with Charlie although he has gone to pursue other opportunities (right down the street). Â The whole process was great. Â I did three sessions on my two back tattoos and they are lightening up very nicely. Â It was very painful of course but worth it so my tats can be light enough to cover up (they were both black, now, a nice gray!)
Leesburg office: Daniel is incredible. Â My best friend and I met him while he worked at Insane Ink as an apprentice. Â When we heard he moved to The Body Gallery, of course we did too. Â We've both had wonderful work done by him and my boyfriend has also had great experiences. Â I will say that he does take his time to create the perfect tattoo for each person and it's absolutely worth it. Â Incredible work!
Jenni Kreer did a cover up tattoo on me a couple years back that is wicked complicated-celtic knots. Â no one believes it's a coverup and I get compliments on it all the time. Â Great shop, everyone was professional and the place is super clean. Â I send people there all the time and every friend has come back and thanked me for the referral. Â You won't be disappointed. Â If you want Jenni to work on you plan in advance though- she is in high demand for good reason.
Review Source:I stopped in here to get some work done while I was in the DC area earlier this year, and I couldn't be happier. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the work was top notch. If you live in (or are visiting) the Washington DC area and need some ink, go see the guys at The Body Gallery!
Review Source:I will only trust my skin with these artists. They are extremely clean and they are incredibly talented. I got my first tattoo from Jenni (the owner) about 5 years ago and am still super happy with the results. I then received my second tattoo from Jaxn and couldn't be happier. Since then every single one of my tattoos has been given to me by these two artists. I would not trust any other shop with my body. My fiance is in the process of getting a sleeve done by Jaxn and both of us couldn't be happier with the results. Every time we walk in that door for more work on his arm our expectations are exceeded by 100%.
They are now able to preform laser removal in the Sterling shop. Which my fiance is also taking part in (silly self given tattoo). The procedure was quick and easy. They have fair rates for something that a salon would charge 10 times as much.
So if you are in the market for a new tattoo or want to erase the past this place does it both. They will treat you with respect and get involved in your tattoo and work with you to make sure it is exactly what you want.
Once we move to GA I am sure we will make special trips just to get work done.
Thanks for everything!!!
Like Cami P (5/7/08), my wife Karen and I are older than the other clients we saw in the shop, but nobody made us feel out of place; to the contrary, everybody was very friendly, and we felt comfortable the whole time we were there. Â We stopped by this past Friday evening, and the place was hopping. Â It was clear that a lot of people know about this place. Â We were set up with one of the artists, Joey. Â We discussed what we wanted, and got an appointment for the next afternoon. Â Joey was very helpful, friendly, and professional, from start to finish. Â He, and all the other artists (and the shop) are licensed by the state, and there are also other certificates on the wall for various health and safety courses taken. Â From the minute you walk in the door, you can see that this isn't some seedy tattoo parlor, in fact, it's just the obvious. Â It's very clean, well lit, and all of the artists are sticklers about cleanliness and sanitary practices. Â We didn't feel at all that we'd be putting our health at risk. Â Joey answered any questions we had, and didn't make us feel like we were idiots for asking any of the questions we did. Â We had done our research before we chose The Body Gallery. Â The other 'closest' place is in Berryville, but we chose this place because Karen liked the fact that a woman owns it. Â We heard that a new location will be opening in Leesburg, which will be more convenient for anybody living in central or western Loudoun county. Â As I said, the place was hopping when we were there, and most of the artists are booked at least a month in advance; we were fortunate to be helped within a day. Â Kudos to Jenni for running a nice operation, and all the best with store #2. Â We're already talking about what to have inked next, so we'll see you again!
Review Source:Probably the cleanest tattoo/peircing shop I have ever seen, seriously, you could eat off the floor here. There are 4 or 5 different artists that work here, all with diverse, amazing portfolios. I recommend making an appointment in advance as they seem to be pretty booked up. Some of the best detailed tattoo artistry in the area.
