Got a tattoo from Aaron about a month ago. Went in with very little idea of what I wanted and he went right away with drawing up exactly what I couldn't put into words. Got my tattoo done a week later and he was very patience with it being my first big tattoo and needed to take little breaks. The tattoo came out amazing and I am absolutely in love with it.
Review Source:I wanted to get a coverup of an unfortunate mistake I once made...and I made an appointment with Paul Roe about a month ahead of time. I went in for a consultation, paid the down payment, and set the date. He designed the coverup of a linear figure with a peacock feather (more curvy lines, rather than straight ones). I went in for the appointment, and everything went smoothly. The tattoo came out beautifully, and the colors were so very vivid. After the tattoo healed, I realized that the previous tattoo was still very visible. This was because Paul was trying to stay true to the peacock feather colors instead of covering up traditionally, with lots of black outlines, etc. I wrote him an email, explaining the issue, and he made another appointment for me, almost immediately. The second appointment also went well, and he added a bit more black and green to cover up the previously tattooed area. He did not charge me for the additional work. Once it healed the second time around, it looked absolutely beautiful. You cannot notice the other tattoo at all, unless you know it was once there. And the peacock feather looks absolutely beautiful.
On top of that, Paul is very pleasant to deal with, has quite a sense of humor, and is a gentleman. Highly recommended! Beautiful, artistic and professional work.
I am giving this shop a one star because 0 was not available. I will say that this rating is because of the ethics of the proprietor, Paul Roe, and not because of the quality of the work. I have known Paul for several years and always liked him. He has done three tattoos for me and I was happy with them.
The problem arose when, two years ago, Paul put out on social media that his son needed a camera and lens for a photography class and that he would trade tattoo work for the equipment. Being an amateur photog and having several cameras, I responded and agreed to give his son my Canon EOS 7, a 28mm-300mm zoom lens and a 50mm fixed lens. I came to his shop on H Street with my daughter and met Paul and his son there to see the equipment. They took the equipment and we agreed to arrange for the tattoo work of a Bear theme on my back shoulder for some later date. I sent him examples of the type of image I was looking for and he agreed to create drawings for me.
At first he said he would do my tat publicly at a convention in Baltimore and get some image possibilities together, but that never materialized. After a few calls/emails to him, he said he had some drawings to show me, but that never materialized either. Now over the past 18 months or so I have emailed and called Paul again and again and again without any response whatsoever.
Basically, he stole my equipment and will not respond to my calls/emails. I am considering legal recourse.
I can't recommend Paul Roe's work highly enough. I came to him with a difficult coverup job- basically a big black circle- and a few vague ideas, and he refined them into a design that is everything I was trying to say with those vague ideas and more. He's a fantastic artist. The tattoo application took 2 sessions, and I could not be happier with the design or the artistry. He's also a fun guy to sit with, very smart and very knowledgeable about the history of tattooing, among many other things.
I did have some trouble initially getting to see him- I had to chase him down via various media for weeks before I could get to talk to him to make an appointment, and if I hadn't decided based on his portfolio that he was the guy I wanted, I would have let the frustration send me elsewhere. I get the sense he's very selective about the jobs he takes. Once I managed to get in, I did not have any trouble scheduling either of the 2 application sessions.
got a great custom tattoo from paul. Â unlike others, i had absolutely no problem getting an appointment. Â i'm free during the day so that may have played a role, but i sent my initial inquiry on a weekend, had a consultation for wednesday and was tattooed the following week.
the consultation process was great. Â we spent nearly an hour together working through the design and paul was a true artist in helping me realize my vision.
i found the price to be very reasonable and he was great at working with me through the pain. Â i would definitely recommend paul and britishink. Â great experience.
Ugh, same thing as what happened to many others. I had a great consult with Paul, he was very talented with his drawings and I felt great about going forward with him for my first tattoo. However when I called (and called, and emailed, and called) to set up my appointment to come back for the actual work, he simply never got back to me. I reached him once via telephone and he was out and about and promised to call me back from the studio to schedule the appointment. But he never did. I finally gave up - I shouldn't have to chase someone for three months. I just can't do that, it's awful customer service. So I've given up on British Ink.
In other news, from what I've seen two of the highly rated artists from British Ink (Cynthia and Liaa) appear to have opened another studio. I don't know the name, but I think I'll try that next and hopefully be able to finally get my tattoo.
So to sum up, British Ink is a nice studio, it's clean and the artists are clearly talented, but it doesn't help if you can't actually get the tattoo done. :(
I had a vision of a tattoo of cherry blossoms and chose Cynthia cause her tattoos had such brilliant colors. I had to wait 2 months to even get an appointment with her. She's not kidding when she says she's crazy booked.
I can't speak for the other artists but Cynthia is absolutely a great tattoo artist. The studio itself is very clean. Cynthia was very professional and responded to emails very promptly. The consultation was short where I told her my dream for my tattoo while she listened and offered some advice. I didn't actually even see my tattoo until the day I was getting it but it was even better than what I imagined. She definitely took my vision and put her own artistic spin to it.
I am beyond satisfied with my tattoo and my experience with Cynthia. The whole thing was very awesome. I highly recommend Cynthia, especially if you want a color flower tattoo.
I got my first tattoo last week from Robie and I couldn't be happier with the experience. He responded quickly when I first contacted him, was thorough during our consultation and did excellent work.
Additionally, he's an interesting dude and very knowledgeable about his field. Talking with him made the time in the chair fly by.
All I can say is ROBIE, ROBIE, ROBIE!
One night while day dreaming I decided I wanted my second and final tattoo (trust me it's final) and so the next morning I jumped on Yelp to search tattoo shops in DC and the reviews for Britishink sold me. I love the fact they do not accept walk ins and everyone must have a consultation. I went over the bio's for each artist and Robie was the best match for me. He has a lot of tribal tats on his page and that's what I was going for. I won't drag on and on...but this was an awesome place. VERY clean, professional, and efficient business. If I ever go for #3 - y'all know where I'm going!
Like many of you, I visited Yelp to find an artist for my first tat, and I found a real gem in Cynthia and Britishink.
Plan to book your consult and appointment way in advance of when you want your ink because Cyn is very, very busy. The consultation was an interesting, insightful two-way dialogue. A couple of weeks later I got the work done. The 4 hour session with her went flawlessly (well, it would have been more flawless if I would have heeded her advice and not drank so much the night before). Â We talked, listened to music and eventually we watched a movie.
Cynthia is great! Â Her training as an artist means that you can get a fantastic technician and artist all in one. Her creative abilities took my concept and "rough" pictorial idea, and turned it in to a great piece of body art. Thanks Cynthia!
Love this place, the people are incredibly friendly. Had a piece on my back done by Liaa. Was there for 6 hours and the final product is amazing, I love it. The colors came out better than I thought was possible in a tattoo, the shading is great!
The general idea was to cover up a small scar on my back, but after seeing what she could do with what I had in mind I decided to do the whole left side. The day after I got it I was already planning what to do on the opposite side...
Overall a great experience. Paul, Robie, Cynthia, and Liaa are all great fun to talk to and I would refer them to anyone looking to get a real, custom piece.
Let me start out with a little background.
I made a yelp account with the specific intent of reviewing British Ink. To ensure that my review would show up, I reviewed some other places (check out my other generic reviews!) beforehand. So you know I'm serious about this!
I've wanted a tattoo since middle school, and I've always known exactly what I wanted. I visited Yelp religiously, bookmarking tattoo studios and checking and re-checking for new reviews. British Ink was the only place with 5-star reviews all the way and everyone seemed to have a great experience! So  I finally decided to splurge and got the courage to make a consultation with Liaa back in February - about 3 weeks before my appointment today on the 19th. I chose her because I wanted watercolor cherry blossoms and I fell in love with her watercolor poppies piece on her site/in her portfolio,
During the consultation, she was so nice and friendly and very very patient. I came in with references and she made a rough sketch, which I was very pleased with. I set up an appointment that day and eagerly counted the days down.
The day came for the appointment and my brother was more nervous about it than I was. All I can say is that I was rarin' to go! I was keyed up/pumping adrenaline the whole time, and even though I jumped (not good!) when she put her hand on my back (with vibrating tattoo gun in hand), I was a trouper and pulled through perfectly. Paul came in beforehand and remarked how pretty the stencil was and he seemed to be pleased even before the whole thing started.
It was a wonderful experience and it was over quicker than I expected - she was very calm, and professional and upon seeing the finished piece, I could tell my companions were pleased and so was I! Her skill is very apparent and I would totally recommend her if you're looking for any sort of Eastern/Oriental tattoo.
I think I will go in for a touch-up, depending how much more the bottom part of mine turns out to be, but I am still delirious over how pretty it is! Her pricing was reasonable but I advise to consult/schedule ahead of time since she's packed, and I can see why!
I'm planning on recommending Liaa/British Ink as a whole to every one of my friends!
Edit: (Edit of my previous edit) Liaa is now at Cirque du Rouge so if you like her works, you know where to find her! I'm feeling the itch for another tattoo myself!
I'm in Liaa's gallery as "Finches and Cherry Blossoms" - I came to her last year with a concept and she brought it to life.
I am sure she was probably driven a tad crazy by my edits but hey - this is something going on my body forever and I wanted it perfect!
In the end I thought she did an absolutely perfect job and I was so happy with the end result.
I appreciated that British Ink took tattooing seriously in that they are an appointment only salon, so you can't get drunk one night and come in asking for the "I heart my mom" flare piece on the wall.
They are true artists.
I would definitely be back for my next piece :)
Thank you Liaa for giving me a beautiful tattoo!!
My partner and I both got inked yesterday by Liaa and I could not be happier. Our tattoos are two completely different styles and both look amazing. We were there about 4 hours and the time flew by. She was uber professional and took my initial ideas/desires and turned them into a beautiful piece of art. It is really beyond anything I could have wanted. This is my fourth tattoo that I have gotten in DC and it is the by far and away the best experience I have ever had. Within hours, we were planning what our next time with Liaa would lead to.
Liaa and the other folks from British Ink also had no cooler than thou attitude that you sometimes find at shops.. If you are thinking about getting some work done, go see Liaa!
I have to come on here to rave about Liaa at BritishInk. Â She is all that and more. Â First I'd like to say how much I appreciate a shop that is as organized as they are. Â You have to set up an appt for a consult. Â After the consult we scheduled an appt for have the work done. Â I paid my deposit via paypal as soon as I got home. Â I like that they are on an appt based only. Â I feel comfortable knowing that people won't be walking in as they please. Â I am so glad to not have to ever step foot in a shop like that again.
Liaa is so easy to talk to and relax with. Â Unlike most of these artists with horrible bedside manners and just all around jerks. Â My first tattoo with her was script. Â It turned out wonderfully. Â All touch up are included if needed. Â I needed a slight touch up. Â After the touch up we did the consultation for the next project.
This project wasn't a small 4" tattoo. Â it was a full backpiece. Â I showed Liaa all the pictures I brought in and she instantly came up with this wonderful piece for my back. Â When I came back for the actual tattoo, it was even better. Â I did 3 hours of outline and have an appt to come back. Â
I cannot say enough about this place and this artist. Â I love the funky style they have going on in there. Â The entire place makes a great environment for the customers. Â I have had many tattoos in the past and I find it difficult sometimes to find that perfect artist. Â I've found mine and I will follow her wherever she goes. Â I just hope she doesn't go anywhere lol. Â I mean that place is the best and the other 3 artist are just as nice and hospitable. Can't go wrong here.
Britishink is wonderful. Â I got my third tattoo here a week ago and it was everything my fellow yelpers promised it would be. Â I am planning to come back for another (it's true that they're addictive) as soon as I scrounge up some more extra cash.
Liaa is an amazing artist and very professional. Â She was helpful, honest, and designed a tattoo that was exactly what I was picturing. Â I'm not a sqeamish one in the chair, but her workspace was very comfortable and calming. Â I'm not sure what was happening with the music - it might have been a long playlist or a sat radio station, but whatever it was I was into it! Â
We had a nice chat, and the time seemed to fly by. Â That's how great Liaa is, the time flew by while I was getting ink drilled into my flesh. Â Come here for your tattoo, ask for Liaa, and you will not be dissapointed.
robie is king. Â he did some work for my husband and we are making an appt to do a cover up for myself. Â it was SO effing refreshing to have such a NICE, warm, I-N-C-R-E-D-I-B-L-E artist. Â i can't tell you how many times we've gone to shops and the employees are such arrogant little punks that we decide not to get tattoo'ed there. Â it's also pretty well known that two of the other big tattoo joints in dc totally rip people off. Â can't recommend this place highly enough, honestly. Â also love the way that this place isn't a walk in joint so you have to 1st have a consultation w/the artist and then come back for the work. Â super thought out and professional. Â A+
Review Source:Cyn is wonderful. I gave her a stack of pictures and asked her to make them into something cohesive. The result was more than I had hoped for. She is crazy busy though! My advise? Make your next appointment before you leave... She loves what she does and it shows in her work as well as her crazy schedule!
Review Source:Paul Roe is amazing from start to finish. He is kind, patient, and thorough in every step of the process. When I met with him he was immediately interested in doing a custom design for me, and was happy to spend as much time as it took to discuss possibilities so he could come up with a sketch that matched what I wanted. He also is clearly very well versed in the technical aspects of tattoing, and we talked for a while about his experience in tattoo repair (for fixing bad tattoos done elsewhere). I was really appreciative of his enthusiasm for my idea and attention to detail.
Aside from that, he's a great artist, did a fantastic job on the tattoo, was good about preparing me (since I'm pale, he had me take antihistamines to avoid having my skin balloon up during the job), was patient with my squeamishness, and was happy to give me a soda and wait when my low blood sugar from an hour bike ride to his shop created unpleasant side effects.
Since I leaked a lot of plasma during the process, a couple areas were a bit lighter once it healed, and he was happy to retouch it for free.
His prices are more expensive than some others, but I still consider it moderate. Keep in mind this is a permanent investment, and spending a little more up front for something that will look fantastic is absolutely worth it.
My tattoo (from right after I got it) can be seen here:
<a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.flickr.com%2Fphotos%2F13829298%40N00%2F1392893400%2F&s=ab230eefef081ca28be0186add4ab18ed6cdf8ccbb80b4acaa3f8f66c713e8b9" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://www.flickr.com/ph…</a>
I'm so glad I found this place on Yelp. Â I scheduled an appointment with Cyn what seems ages ago, but the wait was 100% worth it.
She took a picture of live cherry blossoms and turned it into one of the most beautiful tattoos I've seen. Â She did EXACTLY what I wanted with almost no help from me. Â During the initial consult, she asked all the right questions to make sure we were on the same page.
During the tattoo (which she did in one go, even though it took 4 hours), she was so nice and easy to talk to.  It really  made the pain easy to handle when we could talk about our crazy families.
The price was high, but for a good piece of art you have to pay. Â I don't think it was overpriced by even a penny. Â I checked out some of the projects she was working on, and each one had its own charm and story. Â I really love tattoos that are not only aesthetically attractive but also have some great story behind them. Â This is definitely not a crap walk in tattoo parlor, you are going to get top tier treatment at BritishInk.
I would recommend Cynthia in a heartbeat, and I'm already thinking about other tattoos I can get!!
I've got a number of friends who have gotten, or are in the midst of getting tattoos with Liaa Walter - I've been incredibly impressed with the work I've seen from her so far, and decided to give her a go for a robot sleeve tattoo I've been wanting for a while.
Liaa's work is very detailed, and her shading is fantastic in all the tattoo's I've seen from her - she also works surprisingly quickly. She's definitely my new tattoo artist of choice. Thanks Liaa, I couldn't be happier with the tattoo so far!
If you are interested in getting a tattoo, I highly recommend British Ink. The studio is very private and by appointment only. I recently had a session with Robie Sayan. The first appointment was a consultation to discuss ideas. Robie took the time to listen to my thoughts and offered his advice. I covered up an old tattoo and I couldn't be more thrilled with the end results. He takes his time and is incredibly thoughtful to make sure that you are as comfortable as can be. Robie even followed up with me via email a few days later just to make sure all was well. Can't wait to go back for more!!
Review Source:The newest face to the DC tattoo scene resides at British Ink. Artist Liaa Walter studied under B.I.'s Paul Roe before being released on the world tattoo gun in hand. Even though she is just starting out she clearly knows what she is doing. I went in for a consult to expand on a tattoo I already had for ages. Most places would simply cover your old work and start fresh, but Liaa took great care to blend my small delicate butterfly into a much larger back piece, while keeping the original tattoo that I loved as the center of her design. After the thorough consult where I provided her a bunch of images for reference she sketched up a completely gorgeous concept and provided both line art and color versions of it so I could see what I was getting myself into. When the big day came she was patient and worked very quickly. She also is very light handed so it wasn't as painful as some of the other work I have had done. Liaa was amazing and I will definitely be back.
Review Source:If you want a cheap tattoo, go to Georgetown or Arlington. Â If you want a great one, go to British Ink. Â I worked with Paul Roe on a custom cover-up about 4 years ago and my tattoo is still sharp and bright, a testament to skilled application. Â Friendly and incredibly professional, Paul worked on several iterations of design, then coloring, and re-coloring until all the ink took and I was happy. Â He and I, and now you too, are the only ones who know there's another tattoo under it; the cover-up is flawless. Â When you're investing in something so personal and permanent, it really matters who you work with, and I couldn't recommend Paul more highly.
Review Source:There are rites of passage everywhere you go in life. No where is this more true than the military. Young Marines scramble to get their Eagle, Globe and Anchor as soon as they get home from boot camp. Its a badge of honor. But I didn't want the cookie cutter stamp like tattoo that everyone has. It took a whole enlistment to think of what I wanted. Finding inspiration and then moving to something better, more unique.
Then I gave Cyn a call at British Ink. She specializes in a retro, Americana style tattoo. (though she can do it all!!) Its almost like folk tattooing. It tells a story, a tale of where you might have been at one more in your life. I sat down for a large arm piece that took close to 5 hours. She said she'll just keep working and I could take a break when needed. She took a couple artistic ideas and made them all one great tattoo.
She was swift but professional. She can shoot the shit with you while she inks you up but doesn't lose focus on her ultimate goal...giving you an incredible piece of artwork.
I would highly recommend anyone to look at Cyn's portfolio and give her a call for a consultation to get a tattoo. She is appointment only and she doesn't do walk-ins. All custom work. Because she doesn't believe in flash work that you pick out from a wall. She wants the tattoo to be a part of you. A reflection of you.
I'll be back to get another tattoo as soon as possible. Samurai fighting dinosaurs might be a little crazy, but screw it, I'm going to have fun with it.
Also note: The studio is a little tough to find, but it is labeled with a street number. Buzz the intercom and they'll be right down to get you in! There is some street parking around so you shouldn't have a terrible time finding somewhere to find parking while you get inked up.
Thanks to Yelp, I found the perfect artist (Cynthia) in the DC area to get my tattoo done. Â It took one, two....third's a charm! Â We kept having to postpone on each other, and let me tell you....her schedule is BOOKED for the rest of this year..... She's one busy gal! Â
My first consult....I had an idea of what I wanted...although I wanted to add some intricate pattern to my one design. Â I emailed a few different ideas, still not really knowing what pattern I wanted. Â The second time I came in, she had a sketch of all the things I wanted in this tattoo and it came out absolutely perfect. Â I even had 3 days to "change" my mind.....but when I got there, my mind was pretty much made up. Â It was perfect the way it was. Â
And so she inked on!!!!  Based on the high ratings here, you know that Cynthia is already a wonderful, experienced and highly talented artist.  In addition, she's  light-heart and humorous....it was such a pleasure (and ironically, yet literally stingy) to watch two hours go by like that. Â
The final product: the tattoo was bigger than I had anticipated. Â The tattoo starts 6 inches above my left knee...then it starts to wrap around .... and it stops on the side, right below my ass cheek. Â in the middle is my scorpio sign...then on each side has a marigold flower, my birth flower, followed by weaves of ribbon. Â Only two words to describe it... pretty feminine and HOT.
I am due back for a visit so she can do a check up and take pictures.... Yes, free touch ups within 6 months. Â This type of catering is indeed excellent service in my book. Â The work speaks in quality itself.
What are you waiting for? Â If you have to flinch, you better think twice.....
Forget what you thought about Tattoo parlors - this place sets their own pace. The location is a great little place - the red walls and minimal flash on the walls, accompanied by the art everywhere makes you feel as if you're in a true art studio.
Paul and Cyn (who did my work) are professionals in every sense of the word. Talented, kind and funny in an industry that seems to pride itself on aloof and snobbish when it comes to the art of tattoos. This was my third tattoo experience, and I can safely say I'll never go anywhere else for ink if I can help it.
Cyn did a coverup for me of my first tattoo based on a description of what I was looking for that I'd emailed her back and forth on a few times. Her communication is fantastic, and when I got to the studio to see the ideas she had, it was as if she'd reached in my head and plucked out what I wanted.
She was meticulous about cleanliness, the colors she used were ones I'd never encountered at a shop before, and her skill is beyond reproach. I've also seen Paul's work, and man - if you can find a shop with two more talented artists in it, I'd be surprised.
You get what you pay for - it's not cheap, but would you want something cheap on your body for life? Good art comes with a price, and the ones they charge are fair and more than worth it for the beautiful work you get to walk out the door with.
I've been meaning to write a review on how awesome this place is for many many moons now. I stumbled upon this lovely gem as I was looking for an old artist of mine, which coincidentally was Paul. However, as the years had rolled on and the tattoo's collected, I decided to work with Cyn on a partial sleeve. She's incredible, completely creative, just does gorgeous work. Her colour work is amazing, very vibrant, and just true to me.
Honestly, I can't wait to go back for my next one. I highly recommend both Cyn and Paul to anyone looking for an awesome experience and lifelong gorgeous tattoo. :)
i also was tattooed by cynthia, and thought she was fabulous. Â i brought some sketches of what i wanted, and when i came back she'd pulled them together into something intricate and pretty awesome. i'm really thrilled how it came out, and also with how nice she was - i got a tattoo on my side/ribs, and she brought in a junk t-shirt and cut a hole in the side to work through so i could stay covered, and was super friendly throughout. i've recommended her to everyone i know who's interested. Â the tattoo was expensive, but i think well within reason for the complexity, size and quality -- i was totally ok with paying it.
i don't know much about paul, but his accent gets a thumbs up anyways
One word: Outstanding.
I originally discovered BritishInk on Yelp, and thank goodness I did. Â Everyone who's talked to me about them simply loves them, so when I unexpectedly needed a memorial tattoo, I knew this was the place to go. Â And to find a tattoo place so close to my school, Gallaudet - fantastic!
When I went in initially to make the appointment, Cynthia was working on someone else, so I spoke with Paul. Â This guy deserves much more credit than he has on here - everyone raves about Cynthia, but Paul is truly a wonder in his own right. Â He is so calm and collected at all times, and he really makes you feel at ease. Â Even though I was only there for a "stamp" (paw print) rather than a piece of artwork, he treated me as a valued client and I really appreciated it. Â By the way, credit cards are only accepted through PayPal...and Paul trusts his clients to pay up when they're supposed to.
The tattoo turned out wonderful. Â He mixes his own ink, and the color he chose was exactly what I wanted. Â Paul is a consummate professional, and it really shows. Â He made me feel totally at ease while he was tattooing, and amazingly enough he even touched up the two other paw prints I have - one of which was a scratch job (see my review of Fine Line Tattoo) that he has made look beautiful.
Two thumbs up for Paul and BritishInk! Â I'll be returning, and sending my friends!
Cyn at British Ink is just amazing. She has been working on a large piece for me that involves some complicated cover-up work, and it's just amazing. I love going into her studio and peeking at the new sketches she's working on, she is just so talented and creative. In addition to the exceptional quality of her work, she puts a lot of effort into making the experience as pleasant as possible for the client.
She can do anything from a simple "vintage" design with just a few colors, to a complex work of art with every color of the rainbow involved. She's really amazing, I can't recommend her work enough!
As for prices, I would say that she is priced about right - it's more than some places, less than others. But, based on the quality of the art and the individual attention you recieve it's worth every penny!
There is another artist there, Paul (he's the British part of the title). I haven't had any work done by him, but his portfolio is beautiful - he seems very talented as well. His style is more subtle than Cyn's and it's nice that there is some variety in the shop.
Britishink is a very cool and eclectic tattoo studio nestled a few blocks just off Capitol Hill and Union Station. Â Tattoos and consultation are by appointment only. Watch for the Union Jack. When you get to the door, you'll have to ring the buzzer to be admitted into the building.
My experience is with the artist/tattoo artist extraordinaire - Cynthia Rudzis. The woman is ridiculously talented! Her eye for detail and her mad art skillz are amazing! Don't go in thinking you are going to choose some sort of pre-existing art for a tattoo - tell her what is in your mind's eye - and she will sketch out something that will cause all of the gaskets to blow on your brain! (Her website and portfolio are at <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.chesapink.com&s=e47d0383a40fc75bcbbeed67fdf59a3f2d8679feeb353f84ec08c3d3e66e86ca" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://www.chesapink.com</a>).
While she can tattoo anything - she specializes in old school tattoos and Celtic knotwork designs. Celtic knotwork is notoriously difficult to do well - but she is a Shambala Master when it comes to this complex medium.
If you are going to get a tattoo - then forget Miami Ink and LA Ink! Go visit the best! And the best is Cynthia Rudzis!
Check out the Britishink web site: <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.britishinkdc.com%2F&s=3b8e7c2409ad723f7ea500937eeafe6c05c9d3300bf7191ae03742a4e864dfec" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://www.britishinkdc.…</a>
My review will focus on one artist at Britishink since I know this person's art the best. As with any permanent body art DO YOUR RESEARCH! Have an initial consultation with your artist before you ever put ink to skin. Go home. Think. Then go back in.
Cyn Rudzis at Britishink (her website and portfolio at <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.chesapink.com&s=e47d0383a40fc75bcbbeed67fdf59a3f2d8679feeb353f84ec08c3d3e66e86ca" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://www.chesapink.com</a>) is an artist whose career I've been lucky to watch for years. My first contact with her art was a full color glossy calendar that I was lucky to snatch a copy of and hang on my wall for a year. When I learned that she was a tattoo artist as well I flipped. Since then it is fair to say I have become obsessed with owning a permanent piece of her art on my backside.
She excels at cover-ups and full color. (And when I say FULL COLOR I mean--when the gal tattoos she's got 25 bottles of color laid out and ready to use!) However her forte is what springs from her creative brain! She's put  high heels on fish, created a family crest for the crestless, twisted nautical into images any scurvy pirate would be proud to wear, crossed Psychedelic with characters from Oz and put people on Campbell's Soup cans.
Most important--she is never one to tattoo when she knows the tattoo won't come out properly. I've seen her turn down jobs that less scrupulous artists would take only to exploit someone desperate to cover "bad art" for a quick buck. If it can't be done right---SHE WON'T do it. If she thinks someone else can do it better---she'll let you know.
If you are looking for a custom piece--give her your idea, sit back and let the master do her work. Keeping ink-ability in mind she will tweak your dreams into a sketch draft---into something that works and looks good on skin.
If you are looking for permanent body art--don't waste your money or risk something you'll regret--rethink your tiny "off-the-wall" flash piece or your vacation souvenir.
Save your money and let Cyn create something just for you and your unique body part---something you won't end up regretting--something you'd be proud to show your mama OR your grandchildren.
