The Burnt Tiger is a great experience as a whole. Atmosphere, Artists, Tattoo's. & everything in between. D.J. will take the Idea's in your head & create a Custom, One of a kind piece. That you'll be forced to fall in love with for the rest of your life. Custom Work, Great Pricing & a great time overall. Who wants to be awkward, Uncomfortable & quiet while getting tattooed anyway? D.J. is very funny, outgoing & an awesome dude. Not only is an artist, But he is the owner & you can tell from the moment that he puts passion into what he does.

It's rare to find a place as real as The Burnt Tiger.
& I'm glad to say I don't plan on going anywhere else.

All the praise for DJ is well deserved. I decided on Burnt Tiger because of the artist/owner. I had seen great reviews of him when he was at Top Hat. I did a little research and found that he had opened his own place in North Center. I was already in the area, so I popped in with a glimmer of hope that he could fit me in that day, and he did! Baller!  I had a picture of what I wanted generally, and he was able to sketch it up quickly. The whole process took 40 minutes tops! The dude's so professional, uber friendly, an amazing talent, and he can spell. His prices are incredibly fair. The shop is pristine! So squeaky clean. And the atmosphere is pretty great. Bright slime green walls, awesome custom floors, exquisite artwork everywhere. You can tell he put a lot of heart into opening his own place. Check him out! You won't be disappointed.

I got my first tattoo here and it was done by Crystal a few months ago. I agree with Katherine's comment, if I could give them a million stars I would. I looked into A LOT of tattoo shops before getting my tattoo, especially being my first one and I would recommend this place to anyone. Very clean, comfortable, and reasonable pricing. I love everything about it!!

The purpose of a service like Yelp is to give consumers an idea of what to expect from a specific business but it only works if the review is honest and unbiased. Of course your friends & family would give you great reviews. The guidelines for Yelp state "please don't review this business if you're connected in any way to the owner or employees" It's odd to me that some of the people reviewing this place know the first & last name of not only the artists that work here daily but the guest artists as well. Bogus.

Dj is an amazing artist and does some of the best customized work in Chicago. I told him what I wanted for my first tattoo and he designed it even better then I pictured it. kept it relaxing and fun to get me through my first. Crystal is amazing as well and she did the one on my back, it was my second and customized as well. Told her my idea over an email walked in and it was again better then I could have ever pictured it for an amazing price and got it done right there. Great people and always make it a relaxing and fun atmosphere. I will never go any place else.

I went to this shop and got amazing results. I had DJ recolor someone else's previous blackwork tats because of marbling and general not-so-great color, and these turned out great. I get many compliments on the quality. I like that this is one shop where a lot of thought goes into the work - not just some flash shop with questionable results and a cheap pricetag. This shop is impeccably clean and the people are great. The Burnt Tiger is my go-to shop and I look forward to getting many pieces done in the future.

I love the Burnt Tiger, the shop is soooo clean which means alot to me and it is home to some of the best tattoo artists in the city, had a great cover up by Charlie, and DJ has done a couple of really great originals for me. Love the shop and love the people, the person complaining about the pricing must not have had many professional tattoos because $150.00 per hour is not a bad price. Take my advise if you are thinking about getting any work done check it out.

You can't beat the quality custom work in Chicago, that Burnt Tiger has to offer. $150 an hour for a good quality tattoo is not very much; with tattoos, you pay for what you get. If you want to be cheap, you are going to look cheap. DJ Auld, Crystal Martinez and all of the guest artists (Charlie Petty, Brent Schlemmer & Matt Kerley) are top notch and will put the ink in your skin to stay for years to come. Spend $60 and your super sweet butterfly/stars/cross/Chicago-flag will look like a warbled piece-o-crap right off the bat; let alone years down the road. The Burnt Tiger does not try to impress others with anything other than their work. They are professional where it counts (and pretty sweet peeps if I do say so myself). Always welcoming and most importantly, always honest. If I have a stupid idea for a tattoo, they tell me; after-all, they're the professionals not you or I; so i appreciate that. If you are looking to pick a generic design out of a flash book, this is not your place (although, they would have no problem hammering that out)... If you are looking for top-quality custom pieces in a comfortable atmosphere, this is definitely the place for you.

What an awesome experience. DJ personifies the Artist part in tattoo artist. Best tattoo studio around. Thank you Burt Tiger for the kick butt ink!

If I could give them a million stars, I would.  I just got my second tattoo from Crystal (6th tattoo overall) and I'm not going anywhere else.  They're super professional, the shop is squeaky clean and in a great location.  Crystal is a fabulous artist, DJ is a super nice dude and has done some amazing work and there's just an overall friendly atmosphere.  I've been to other shops that are openly misogynistic, or don't care about you if you're not absolutely covered in tattoos... The peeps at the Burnt Tiger are the total opposite.  Awesome artists, great location, great studio.

This is the best kept secret in Chicago. DJ is the best custom tattoo artist in town and beyond. The shop is professional, friendly, comfortable and reasonable. Ive never visited a parlor with this level of friendliness. While other shops have a smug way about them, this shop greets you as a friend the moment you walk in. Crystal is amazing and very sweet with a great style and technique. They also bring in amazing guest artists from out of town periodically. Brent Schlemmer from Indiana is someone to book an apt with whenever he stops in. Ive met many people whom have been tattooed by this company and not one, solitary complaint. I look forward to visiting them again soon and will gladly give them a fine word of mouth to anyone that asks about my work.

If you want custom work done in Chicago you will struggle to find a better shop.  DJ is the owner and an incredible artist.  I'm glad he finally opened his own shop.  I get stopped once a week by people to compliment his work.  Super clean and comfortable shop!  Appointments not needed but strongly suggested as he is booked regularly.
