Last night I came in without an appointment and had a tattoo done by Jamie Crystal. My tattoo I originally wanted was three small nautical stars on my wrist, and after chatting about it Jamie explained to me that the size and use of the black ink would cause the dark ink to bleed and end up looking pretty crappy and she was not going to do a bad tattoo. I was set on getting 3 stars, I wanted nautical because my grandfather was in the navy, and I like the idea of them pointing the direction. We decided on three small regular stars that are each a little larger than a penny each on my left wrist. Â To me the colors were very important, I did not want black outlines but I wanted grey because grey symbolizes intellect, the left star is a medium blue symbolizing the male and strength, the center star is yellow for intelligence, and the right is a medium hot pink for the female and creativity.
Jamie was AWESOME, we talked the whole time she did my tat, and talked about her art and the comicons she does and the graphic novels she and Heidi (another woman who also rocks at the shop) are launching called "Crazy Cat Lady". She has some amazing anime work she has done herself around her work room. In edition to just being a really cool chick, the tat which is on my left wrist so it is in a really tender spot really didn't hurt. I think her talking to me and keeping me engaged in other ways kept the focus away from the pain. I have 4 other tats, two tramp stamps, one on my left hip and one on my right ankle, and this was the most painful but the pain really didn't register because Jamie was so AWESOME!!! (And unlike the other tats, washing the tat the next morning was not like being stabbed with a thousand knives). They also sell AFTER INKED cream. Totally worth the investment, no itchiness or scabbiness that I have had with other tats. Â And the price was really good. I checked out other shops and they were giving me quotes as high as $150 for 1 hour sitting when this tat would not take an hour. Cherry Bomb charged me $80 total with the AFTER INKED Â cream that will last for at least 3 tats. Â
To sum up NEXT AND ALL TATS I HAVE DONE HERE IN MICHIGAN I WILL HAVE DONE AT CHERRY BOMB BY JAMIE!!!!
So after a failed attempt at another nearby tattoo place, my friend and I headed over here to get our ink fix.
First off, I went in here initially and they told me I was at the wrong place, but were very polite about it. Â Then, when I came back in, they took my friend and I back right away (while we waited an hour + at the other place that we had appointments for...).
I saw Jaime and was a little nervous as this was only my second tattoo, and I am a wimp about pain and all that jazz. Â She was great. Â The piece that I had picked out only took about 15 minutes, and while it was uncomfortable, it was never painful. Â She gave me a great price ($60-where I had been quoted $100 at another shop) and was very laid back.
My friend saw another person and she was in the chair for about 2 hours but she was very happy with hers as well.
I'm not totally sure I'd get a third, but if I did, I would definitely go here!
My friend and I originally had appts at a nearby tattoo shop. But, after over an hour of waiting, we left and came to Cherry Bomb Tattoo. Our artists were able to help us right away, even thought we hadn't been in before. They were very friendly and helpful. I love that the first thing they did was show us their book of work so we would feel comfortable with them working on our tattoos. My friend worked with Jamie, and had a 3 word phrase tattooed on her back. Jamie helped her with the font and design. My friend loves her 2nd ink job!
I worked with Chris Nagy (<a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.cmnagytattoo.com%2Fart%2FWelcome.html&s=f06c5f98315f57a25c81db308b0cf0d7968ea20cd16190f0f85db5e3a2930272" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://www.cmnagytattoo.…</a>). I had a very BASIC idea of what I wanted. But, he worked with me to truly make my very elementary design idea come to life. He understood the theme I wanted, and the feel I was going for.
The tattoo took about 2 hours and I absolutely LOVE the results! It is exactly what I was looking for, but even more! It is whimsical, and beautiful and perfectly frames my other tattoos. He did a great job of keeping me entertained, and ensuring I was comfortable. He checked in often to make sure I was ok during some of the more painful spots.
I am very happy with his work and I absolutely would recommend him again!
I have been here three times, which says alot because I tend to be a tattoo gypsy, floating from one shop to the next.
All three times I had a great experience. My first tattoo here was done by the owner on my birthday, all the other artist were busy, but he said he could fit me in later in the day. He was so super kind, and gentle. I barely felt a thing. (I got the symbol for pisces on my back)
The second and third time I came I was worked on by Dallas. The second time around I came in for another birthday tat I wanted a family tattoo, that both my brothers have, but more girly.
He designed it and quoted me a price $150, which was a bit more then I had at the time, he agreed to tweak the design to a $120 piece. I loved it, even more then the original! He was also very gentle, and his work was amazing!
The third time I came back I wanted to up the stakes with a wrist piece, yes it was more painful then the others, but Dallas was super nice, and was cracking jokes to keep my mind off of it. When he was done he had completed my favorite tattoo to date! I have 6 in all and it is the one I get the most complements on.
Dallas rocks, Russ rocks, cherry bomb tattoo rocks!
First off, they don't tattoo - they take you're idea and bring it to life. Â A lot of artists talk a big game, but Ken can back it up. Â I got a friggin' awesome piece for a reasonable price (don't forget, you're buying art!) and can't wait to get back in the chair. Â
Cherry Bomb is clean and the employees clearly put our safety first. Â I know they accept Visa, MC, and Discover, not sure about Ammex. You can make an appointment for a $20 deposit.
In this Kat Von D world of ours tattoos are getting so popular that it takes 2 months to get an appointment with a reputable tattoo artist and once you do they are often not excited to help you with a design. Time is money I guess...
Not so at Cherry Bomb. I had the pleasure of getting Russ (the owner) to tattoo me. Apparently he doesn't work much but I had heard he was great so I went in and asked for him and he happened to be there so he agreed not only to tattoo me but to help with the design of my tattoo. Maybe I'm one of those indecisive chicks but Russ didn't make me feel like one.
Can you say pain? I almost passed out. The tattoo is sort of large and on my shoulder and there were areas that were excruciating! Not only was Russ so funny and understanding but one of the other artists brought me a fan and tried to distract me with a joke or two.
The bottom line, though is how does the tattoo look? What's the use in having great service if your tattoo looks stupid, right? It looks awesome. it's exactly what I wanted and I love it! The colors are vibrant and beautiful. I wanted cherry blossoms with pink and white ink...lot's of white which apparently is hard to work with but there's loads of white in the blossoms and it looks awesome. The tattoo itself is very feminine and I think it fits me. It looks good on me because Russ paid attention to me, to my personality and he listened to what I was saying even if I said it in lay-person's terms - he got it.
These guys are great!
I always said the first impression of a tat shop makes a big difference, and this is one great looking shop!
They've got a sort of hot rod bar stool thing going, as well as a very, VERY clean tat and piercing area. This autoclave business is as important to me if not more important than the issue of first impressions.
I was introduced to Cherry Bomb by one of the workers, Gino. He does awesome work - I'm used to these fly-by-night tat shops that do really poor work, but the tat I ended up getting was done skillfully, safely, and priced fairly.
No matter what kind of work you're looking to get, I'd suggest coming to CB before anywhere else. They have the ink skills that can match anything you could ever dream up, and that's saying a lot!
