Overall I like the shop- it's varying attitudes and fun aesthetics are appealing to anyone willing to take the permanent dive into the tattoo world. However, this past time, not only was I overcharged, but my vision of a tattoo was not fulfilled. Now, I'm tempted to name the tattooer, considering one bad seed can spoil the whole lot, but I won't. I'll just say here, her name rhymes with "smelly." The key to a good tattoo is communication and if you go with the artist I did, you'll end up wondering if you were even talking to the same person when it's time for your tattoo. The last thing you want to walk into is a permanent mix-up. Now, who would I recommend? An older tough looking broad named Andrea does really fast work at great prices. Not to mention the bad ass owner, forgive me for my honesty. TA.
Review Source:I stopped in here a few months back to inquire about getting a tattoo touched up and expanded a bit. Â I found out about this place by seeing a lady with a gorgeous tattoo and asked her where she got her ink. Â I find this is a good way to find out about places and that people are quite willing to talk to you and share their experiences and usually they will be carrying the shops' card if they've satisfied with their ink. Â So, came up from San Antonio to check this out, had some images in my phone of what I kinda wanted. Â I go into the shop and met the artist who did the lady I mentioned above, but she wasn't available, so I met with another guy who was very, very enthusiastic about doing the tattoo in the style I wanted, the Northwest Coast Totem Pole Indian art. Â The problem I encountered here was that the artist was intent on doing what he wanted to do, not what I was telling him. Â He wanted to do what he saw and take up my entire shoulder, not what I asked for bud, you lost me brother. Â Ultimately, when you go in for tattoo, it's your body and your tattoo, so don't be swayed by an artist trying to talk you into what makes you feel uncomfortable. Â I think there's a lot of shady tattoo artis out there and they'll sucker you into getting more than what you want to jack up the price on the tattoo. Â Not saying that's what happened here, but it raised the red flag for me. Â Usually, most shops are going to require a deposit of anywhere from 50-75 bucks and I understand that, but the problem there is that I don't want to pay for a tattoo that I don't know what it's going to look like and I don't know how much it will cost. Â I have no problem paying perhaps a 20-30 consultation fee to be used towards the price of the tattoo or if you decide not to get it, the shop keeps that fee, that seems fair and win-win for both sides. Â I want to respect the artist's and shop's time, but I think I also have a right to know what's going to go on my body and an estimation of how much the work is going to cost as well. Â I've found shops have widely varying policies and honestly, it all comes down to who do you trust, what's your gut telling you? Â If you get a funny vibe or something doesn't feel right, walk away and look for another shop.
Review Source:Amazing, Amazing, Amazing Tattoo shop. Best one around, hands down. Wonderful, kind and most important talented artist are there. I would not go any other shop, and have all my tattoos done there. If you are looking for a tattoo, and want it to look good, do yourself a favor and go to Classic.
Review Source:Just stopped by here yesterday to give myself a birthday present and was set up with Brian. I called on a Friday, and they were able to get me in the very next day. I had originally planned to bring artwork in, but forgot it, and he quickly drew something up for me, asking me the whole time if I liked what was going on. He was extremely nice, fast, and efficient. He was also easy on the eyes :)
Anyway, I went to a "franchise" place to get my first tattoo and my artist rolled her eyes and deep sighed the whole time, but when I walked into Classic, they treated me like they had known me for years. I'll for sure be coming back in the future. Thanks!!
My sister had an amazing half sleeve done here, one friend got beautiful feathers behind her ear, and another  friend had a piece done on her ribs. All of their work is so beautiful - the colors are vibrant, the lines are clean, and it's really quality work.
My review is for Dave, because he was my piercer a few years back at Diablo Rojo in Austin, and he was so great, I'm surprised I didn't write a review. So I was 18 and my first piercing besides my ears was an anti-brow, and he did an amazing job. Surprisingly, it didn't reject and I came back a few weeks later to change the jewelry. Every interaction with him was really pleasant. He's friendly, clean, and efficient. He also gave my sister the coolest industrial I've ever seen. Her ears are stupid small, so industrials don't really work for her, so he gave her a version of the piercing that goes in and out of her ear in a really weird, but really badass way. It's hard to explain, but check out his work online!
I am long overdue for a new tattoo, so when the time comes, I'm pretty sure I'm going to come here!
I have been to this place since I was 18 for tattoos and piercings. I have not once been disappointed. It is a welcoming atmosphere. Dave, one of the piercers, is awesome! He always wants you to come back so he can make sure your piercing healed correctly and is easy to talk to. Recently, I had some ink done. My first tattoo was by Adam; who did an AMAZING job on my first half sleeve tattoo.! Last week I had a tattoo done by SOX.......who is also very talented and fun to talk with. All in all, I love this shop and everyone there is friendly and unique! LOVE !
Review Source:Great place, very clean, and everyone's pretty nice. Â Funny, too, which created an awesome environment. Â All the workers seemed like they were having a good time, and each piece I saw was amazing. Â Also, the tattoo artists and piercers are VERY helpful. Â They give advice that will benefit the customer and they really take care of them. My personal experience with the tattoo artist was he gave me exactly what I wanted, even though I was very vague and nondescript about it. Â HIGH RECOMMEND!!!!!!
Review Source:I have two tattoos from Classic- a paw print on the top of my spine by Mark, and a grandfather clock (outline for now, color to come) by Richard. Mark did a great job, and even did some shading to make the paw print look real. He didn't mention that he was going to do it, but it was an extremely pleasant surprise and would have been easy to change into solid color if that's what I had wanted. Although at first he was reluctant to trace the prints I had taken from my cat (understandable, because it was difficult to find a good one), Morgan took the time to trace a good one for me before an appointment she had with another client.
Richard designed the grandfather clock on my arm. I pointed at a few pictures on Google that I liked, and what I liked about them. Instead of a pendulum, I asked for a Gibson ES-125. He nailed the drawing. It even looks just like the grandfather clock my parents had while I was growing up. The first person I showed it to asked if the guitar was a Gibson. The only complaint I have is that the lines are somewhat shaky (though it's not too bad, Â and I'm sure that when I go back to get it colored in, this can be fixed). He also seemed to be really focused on getting it done quickly, and when I asked that he slow down a little bit, basically told me "no".
Prices are very fair. Â I don't see myself visiting another shop in town.
The last tattoo I got was when I was 19 so I am long overdue for some new ink. Â Life has been presenting me with some pretty challenging circumstances as of late. Â At times I have been left hanging by a thread like in Port A a few weeks ago. Â LOL. Â
I've had a mantra that I truly believe has gotten me through these dark and difficult days. Â I AM A Phoenix rising through the ashes. Â I've been burning ferociously these past few months but now's the time for me to rise up from the ashes for rebirth and renewal. Â What better way to mark this new beginning than with a tattoo????
I have not actually gotten the tattoo yet but I've gone in and talked to the guys here. They are real professionals. Â I checked out their portfolios and was floored by the talent. Â I'm still scrounging together the funds for the art but once I get the money this is where I will go. Â I waiver between wanting a full back tattoo or maybe just my shoulder. Â Decisions!!! Â I can't wait til I get her done! LOL!
I didn't start off getting my ink at Classic I actually followed my artist who started tattooing here. I was familiar with the place and knew it had an awesome reputation. Morgan, the owner, is awesome. You can tell the staff there is a tight little family. Their portfolios are all on the coffee table when you first walk in and man, those people have talent. I personally go to Brandon and Becca just because I've been going to them since the beginning but I would be more than willing to trust any of the artists to work on me.
Review Source:I will never go to another tattoo shop! I went all around San Marcos to get prices for a tattoo I was planning on, and every other shop I went to apparently had better things to do than talk to me... I went to classic tattoo and talked to mark. He totally nailed my tattoo! And he gave me a discount because I had had a bad day running around trying to find a tattoo parlor. If you want a great tattoo with great prices, go visit classic tattoo :)
Review Source:Honestly, the best tattoo shop in San Marcos. Got my first tattoo there, and then went in again a few months later but unfortunately they were booked and I had an urge to get inked that same day, so they were able to route me off to No Surrender, as the only other place they could in full faith recommend.
These guys are clean, professional, and you don't feel uncomfortable going in there as a ink virgin. Top notch team and skilled artists.
For years, I had been planning to get my first tattoo on my 30th birthday. Rebecca at Classic Tattoo came highly recommended by a friend of mine with multiple colorful and feminine tattoos. About 6 weeks prior, my husband and I stopped by the shop to visit.
I shared my vision of a colorful owl tattoo modeled after a figurine left to me by grandmother who died when I was 12. I had a very particularly idea of how it would look- not too cartoon-y, but also not severe or angry. I sent her a picture of the figurine and what she emailed back was perfection. She NAILED it. The week of my birthday, it was off to San Marcos we went.
I am a complete wuss when it comes to pain. Rebecca and my husband together kept me from climbing up the walls from pain. Her "bedside" demeanor was incredible. We had a very interesting conversation and it took my mind off the task at hand. When she was finished, I was stunned at what she had done. It was beautiful. I receive compliments at least once a week on my lower leg owl. :)
Thanks, Rebecca.... for literally making a dream come true, a vision come to life.
So my cousin recommended I come here because she has some awesome color tats & I love color! I'm from San Antonio so I drove up to meet my cousin for dinner & happened to pass by the shop & went in just to see the work & set up an appointment to get a hideous tattoo fixed/covered up. Â Rebecca was so friendly & offered to draw something over my current tattoo & I ended up having it done right then & left completely excited that my once hideous rose was now beautiful & full of color:) I love it! & plan on going back for more soon!
Review Source:Talk about wonderful. I have been in alot of tattoo parlors and none compare to Classic Tattoo. The artest that work here are true artists. They are all wonderful. I use Morgan. She has done my 1/2 sleeve and my back which is in progress. I will never go to another tattoo parlor for a tattoo. I have met people from 30 miles away that use Classic Tattoo. This should be the parlor of choice for all who are looking for a tattoo.
Review Source:It's worth noting that I haven't actually been inside Classic yet because it's been impossible to get anyone on the phone the few times that I've called and when I finally did, I headed down there after hanging up only to find a sign posted to the door saying they closed early to go trick-or-treating. The sun hadn't even gone down yet. I live 45 minutes away so it's not really convenient for me to stop by often.
So I headed over to Mystic Marks to get a birthday present for my sister and I was grateful to them for actually being open. I wanted to give Classic some money but I've tried and failed. Perhaps if I can ever get in the place I'll update this review and bump up the stars.
