Aleks is the man! He helped me with a cover up back tat and made it into a beautiful back/side piece. It took 2 sessions and he was patient with all my squirming around. The place has a great vibe and the guys at the shop have been really cool. If you're looking for some bad ass Filipino or Polynesian art, go here. Thanks again Aleks, I'll see you for my next consultation.
Review Source:After a lot of research... I came across Dream Jungle Tattoo. I was immediately drawn to Aleks and his profile. I had a piece of Japanese Art I wanted in memory of a lost friend. This piece has a great deal of sentimental value to me so I wanted to be sure I chose the right artist. I DID!!!
Aleks has such a great eye for detail. He is very professional and patient. He adjusted the size and positioning of the piece to perfection. He is such a pleasure to be in company with that you feel very relaxed. It takes a very special person to make something so painful... feel so pleasurable.
I HIGHLY recommend Dream Jungle Tattoo. To have a piece that means so much to me topped off with the greatest experience... Who could ask for more.
Perfecto Aleks

Ben Mene is freakin rock star! I went in and talked with him about a cover up and a possible re-work of a 10 year old butterfly with my ex-best friend's and my initials on my back (don't judge). Lol!
After glancing at his portfolio, I really loved his Polynesian style. I somewhat had an idea of what I wanted and he was really understanding. Â An hour later he masterfully drew up the most amazing sketch of a tat I've ever seen.
He not only covered up my ex-best friend's initials, he re-worked my butterfly that was jacked up from my previous "touch up," and flowed some beautiful Polynesian tribal with my favorite flower, orchids to include symbols of strength and protection. After only 4.5 hours, I laid eyes on his genius work of art. He was so fast and really helpful with breaks. He takes care of you, he made me eat a snickers lol. It makes me sad that somebody called him a month old rotten tomato, wtf?! Because he's really good at what he does and takes great care of his customers.
I received an email from owner Alex F. regarding my tattoo experience at Dream Jungle asking me to call him, and so I did.
During our conversation Alex was dismissive and defensive. He told  told me how getting finger tattoos was a  bad idea and anything below the wrist is essentially 'gangster' (I was a 50yo straight laced business executive!) and that his shop no longer does finger tattoos. When I questioned the gang reference, he changed his tune and started talking about skin sloughing and epidermis layers. He could not and would not explain why the shop placed the tattoo there on my finger after I asked about suitability of placement. essentially, he made it clear that the placement was my fault. He also told me it is was wrong of me to write a bad review for his business when the artist he employed was at fault, again, refusing to take responsibility for the fact that he, as a business owner is culpable for the work that the people in his employment produce under his business brand.
When we discussed the $250 cost and the fact that I felt ripped off, since I have since learned that some of the best artists in the industry charge $150 to $250 an hour, he refused to acknowledge his shop's business practices were shady; he also went on to tell me that the person who did my tattoo is no longer employed by his shop, and that the 7 letter tattoo that took his no longer employed 'artist' less than 15 minutes to complete was justifiably worth the $250 expense.
I'm sorry. My take is that I am at fault because I was ignorant of costs at the time I had the work done, but I'm far more informed now. I now know that that the artist, and by way of their employment of him, Dream Jungle, took advantage of me and I paid more because of my age and probably because of my sex. Essentially, I suspect that I paid for a couple of hours of work on one of their regulars. (C'mon: you know its true.)
And as is my right as a consumer on this forum, I chose to share that learning with all of you and to warn you: Â DO NOT MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE I MADE. Unless you are tat-savvy and have four or five quotes, and especially if you are outside the regular demographic that this shop caters to, don't take a risk and be taken advantage of, because the management at Dream Land will not take responsibility. If anything, I Â am even more disgusted with Dream Jungle than I was at the time I wrote my initial review.,
Dream jungle tattoo is the place to go for your tattoo needs. Everyone is great and makes you feel at home. My tattoo artist was Aleks. I wanted a Filipino tribal tattoo symbolizing certain meanings I wanted and my expectations were surpassed. The tribal designs were free hand on my arm. Aleks pays close attention to detail and constantly makes adjustments to ensure the art is nothing short of perfection. I live in the valley and the drive is worth it. I can't see myself going anywhere else to get a piece of art. Thank you dream jungle for being the best tattoo artists around. Keep it up!
Review Source:I came to this place with two of my friends because they were recommended by one of the artist. Upon entering the place I already had a bad vibe and an unfriendly greeting. My tattoo "artist" Ben, was almost complete rude and seemed incompetent. Still, giving him the benefit of the doubt I went ahead and got my tattoo. He didn't have a working printer so I was foreced to make a trip to a nearby hotel for a print out (which was ridiculously pricey). And back at the shop things still got to be complicated. Avoiding all instict, I still went ahead with the tattoo. The Tatt wasnt't all that bad but the service was incredibly morose. Â Not once did my "artist" smile. Instead he gave off the personality of a month old tomato left out in the sun. Also was good at keeping his work. Said I'd have a year of "free" touch-ups but when I returned a few moths after he felt like changing is mind and words (apparently) and told me that he had told us (rememebr I went with 2 other friends) that he only mentioned a 30 day touch-up. Which clearly was a lie. He is a cad is clearly isn't worth me boiling over so I kindly left never to return and to write an accurate review.
Avoid this sketch tattoo shop. Terrible service! Lying tattoo "artist".
Stickt to paying a few more dollars at a professional and well credited shop in Hollywood.
I'm sure all these 5-start reviews are by relatives or ghost accounts. Don't get trapped.
I love this shop! The artists are very helpful and knowledgeable. They are not pushy about getting a tattoo at all, its all about the customer and what you want. My experience there was great, you pay for what you get and my tattoo is fabulous! The atmosphere is very calm and comfortable. I got tattooed by the artist Fernando and hes really chill and super nice. The artists there are all awesome at what they do, i would love to get a tattoo from all of them. The apprentice there is really cool and respectful, hes very helpful as well. I plan on returning there for my next tattoo!
Review Source:After deciding I wanted a tattoo of both of my parents last names in Baybayin, I was referred to Dream Jungle Tattoo from one of my cousins. I found the place in Cambodia Town In Long Beach. Walking into their shop they had the coolest atmosphere and it was soothing/incredibly comfortable. Aleks introduced himself to me and I told him what I wanted and showed him the design. Automatically he corrected the Alibata (baybayin) to suit the way my names were actually pronounced then showed me how it looked like. He was incredibly friendly and patient. We talked about the ideas and I set up an appointment.
I showed up a week later to my appointment and the look on his face was that he forgot. He touched up some lady before my appointment, spoke to a couple of people interested in getting tattoo'd and then finally attended to me. The wait was fine though, because it gave me a chance to rethink my tattoo. After going in the back and telling him my last minute change of plans (that he was completely okay with) he took a good amount of time perfecting the Alibata on my back and suggesting ideas so it would fit better. He worked with my curvy body to make sure it was straight and let me go to my boyfriend/sister to make sure they liked it. After countless minutes perfecting the art, standing incredibly still and small talk I finally got on the chair for the tattoo. It was my first tattoo and I wanted my sister to be there with me but unfortunately the new law prohibits people in the back so they had to cheer me on from far away. He reassured me that I'd be fine. The first few minutes of the tattoo were hell. I cried and I felt like the needles went in a good inch. But after a while the pain became numbing. He said I was doing good, and joked that I was going to take a lot longer. After a good 30 minutes (he worked pretty fast for how crispy the alibata looks) I was done. He had me get up and check it out. After letting me show it to my family he brought me back and thoroughly explained what I should do to take care of my tattoo then took a picture of it with a polaroid camera. He then had my sign my name and where I came from which was cool because he had a box full of his clients photos and their tattoos. He offered to touch up my tattoo later on if there are flaws and he gave me a really good price so I tipped him well. It was worth the pain ! The staff was incredibly nice, the shop was nicely furnished, and for my first tattoo I'm so glad that I got him ! Not to mention how skilled he is in his work and how skeptical my family was that he was "legit". But I'm glad I went to him !!
2 weeks later, I think it's about time I write an awesome review for this place! This was my FIRST TATTOO so this will be one of those FIRST TATTOO kind of reviews.
I came in one Saturday morning with a friend to check out local tattoo places in Long Beach. A lot of good friends referred me to this place and after doing a lot of researching (Yelp and other internet sources) directed me here.
I was really cool with the place: I didn't get any of those creepy goosebumps, all the artists were really chill and welcoming, and the place was clean. It was small, but had this style about it that I appreciated. Plus, it wasn't one of those places that felt like an oven so I knew I wouldn't be sweating bullets at a place like this which made me feel comfortable getting my first tattoo.
I came in, checked out their portfolios (which were all extremely well done), and even got a chance to talk and meet with Aleks -- his portfolio was the one that stood out to me the most (specifically because he does Filipino and Tribal Tattooing). He was funny, real chill, and I was able to set up my appointment via email. I knew he'd be busy since he had travelling gigs, but I was so set on having him do my tattoo because of his experience and his personality.
I finally went in. Aleks had the stencil ready and he was really patient with me. I initially wanted to get my piece on my back right shoulder, but my design was too large that it was hitting my shoulder blade so he suggested putting it in the center, right between the shoulder blades. I was hesitant at first and it took me more or less 30 minutes to decide, but he was really awesome in walking me through it and not rushing me or my time. Definitely worth the experience! It took about an hour and half to actually get everything inked, cleaned, and paid for!
My only downside experience I had with this place was that I had to reschedule my appointment for a different day after already coming in. I took off work to come into the shop on a Tuesday, and because Aleks had accidentally forgotten, he immediately and politely scheduled me for that following Saturday. Although I was bummed that it happened that way, I'm glad it did because it reaffirmed my interest in getting my first tattoo done.
Nevertheless, I'm coming back for Round 2 when I get my second tattoo done!
Before I get into it, I should probably disclose that this positive review is partly informed by a negative experience I had at a different tattoo shop a few weeks prior -- the artist at that other shop totally flaked on an appointment I had, calling twice at the last minute to push it out two hours so he could run errands. Sorry, but I'm not about to trust somebody like that with artwork that will be on my body forever.
I was referred to Dream Jungle by my friend who had been here a few years ago. I wanted to get my daughters' names in Baybayin (ancient Filipino script) on my arm, and I was told that Aleks was the go-to guy (a quick Google search will definitely confirm this). My friend warned me that because Aleks is so skilled in this specialty, the waiting list to get an appointment was months long, but I was so salty about the other tattoo shop that I was willing to wait. I filled out their email request on their website, and Aleks emailed me the very next day and said to call the shop and he'd be there to answer and set up an appointment. I called that afternoon, and he was able to set me up for the next week (he did mention that he was booked for the next gajillion Saturdays, but during the week seems to work pretty well).
Throughout the week, I kept being annoying and emailing him with extra questions, and he always got back to me promptly and politely. (Admittedly, I also kind of wanted to make sure that he would remember my appointment.) On the day of the appointment, Aleks was basically above and beyond what any tattoo artist should be. He was super nice and polite and very professional. I told him my daughters' names and he translated it instantly. I told him what I had in mind, he sketched it out a bit, then he helped me figure out the placement. It took a little while but it seemed like he really wanted to make sure that I was happy and that I knew what the art would look like on the contours of my arm. And despite the fact that I've given birth to two kids, I'm still kind of a wuss when it comes to pain. When he was actually inking, he was gentle and didn't even laugh when I winced the first few times.
I was so happy with the result, and I realize now that I should've just gone with Dream Jungle in the first place. Aleks is not only a great tattoo artist in general, but if you want to get Baybayin, there really is no substitute. He really knows his stuff and can design the characters in a bunch of different ways, so you end up with a totally unique piece. I will definitely be going to Dream Jungle again for my next tattoo.
Edited to add: I even got a follow-up call from the shop to make sure the healing process was going okay. A++
The man BEN MENE is the best artist I've ever experienced. He did my half sleeve in two segments. I wanted to add some more ink to the first part of the sleeve after a couple of weeks and he fixed it right away, no extra charge or hassle.
After a few months I came back to do the remainder of the half sleeve and HE HOOKED ME UP with the sickest landscape piece of NYC I've ever seen. So detailed and with Ben's own artistic touch on the NY buildings and landmarks. In couldn't be happier with my sleeve. I'm definitely going back to this guy.
I stumbled upon Dream Jungle cause the other place I wanted to go to was closed and I'm so glad it was!!  This was my first tattoo and I wanted it on my foot (which I heard was painful...not that bad by the way) so I was freaking out, but Ben who did my art was soo patient with me!  Even when I had him re-draw the design after he drew it on my skin already annnnd even when I almost backed out.  He talked me through everything which I was really grateful for and not once did he make me feel pressured or embarrassed...like when I was being a pansy and told him I was scared of it hurting and more scared of my parents seeing it, even though I'm damn near 30!! hahaha  But yeah, Ben is legit and I would DEF go back! :)
Review Source:Iv gotten all my work done here and have been very pleased. Â Each time iv come in, Fernando has put together exactly what I wanted. Â Iv gotten everything done by Fernando but while in the shop, iv seen other work and all the guys are very talented. Â I highly recommend this shop to anyone.
Review Source:I love Hawaii, but didnt have enough time to get a tatoo there. When I came home from my vacation, I researched the best local person to do Polynesian tatoos, and found Ben Mene right in my own city in Long Beach! I brought a number of pics of beautiful Polynesian tatoos to my appointment with Ben. He took one look, and then proceeded to draw an amazing custom freehand masterpiece on my low back. It was much larger than I had planned, but it was perfect, and I didn't want to change a thing!. 4 hours later I had a beautiful tatoo that I absolutely love...Ben was so awesome, calm and supportive through the whole process....I'm so proud of this tatoo..it makes me feel beautiful!!! Thank you so much Ben!!
Review Source:I'm not sure who was more nervous, my wife or me. Â It was my first tattoo, and I was pretty much freaked out about the whole thing. Â I was totally in on getting my two inside-the-wrist tattoo's, but since it was my first, I needed a little bit of encouraging along the way.
Fernando was my guy, and honestly, he kicked butt in assuring me and the wife. Â He walked me through the whole process, explaining everything as we went. Â Things were professional, positive, and the shop is super clean and sanitary for tattoo work. Â I couldn't have dreamed of a better experience.
I chose DJT because of their excellent tribal tattoo work, and since I was working with precise Hebrew and Greek script work, I needed it to be perfect. Â They nailed it, and I walked away fully pleased.
Fernando warned me about bleeding and scabbing afterwards, so I was expecting the worst. Â However, I didn't have any bleeding and very little scabbing/peeling of skin. Â I did use super small dabs of Aquaphor when the itching got annoying, but nothing else.
You should be aware that the parking in the local area sucks, although this is not DJT's fault. Â If you get there when they open, you can park right out front. Â Otherwise, you'll be parking down one of the less-than-ideal side streets. Â The area is a bit shady, so bring in your valuables.
In store, the only work with cash. Â If you need to use a credit card, you'll need to do all that work on-line. Â It's a little backward, but whatever. Â They're a good bunch, I recommend DJT without reservation!
This review has been long overdue. Everyone here from the owner to his employees were very professional, friendly and helpful. Place is very clean and beautifully decorated.
I got my first tattoo here and I think it will always be my favorite piece for sentimental reasons, and simply because it is beautiful, to me, at least. Aleks was really patient with me. Yes, I tend to act "blonde" like my highlights sometimes and I didn't get any eye-rolling =) Â His reputation precedes him... he is very talented and meticulous, maybe even a perfectionist.
Something to expect if wanting a tattoo by Aleks is the LONG waitlist. In the end, it is worth it and you get what you pay for. This shop is highly recommended and people should have no hesitation to get something done here. The other artists are very talented as well. I would go back, if I weren't so impatient... =)
Made good on my promise to Ben to return and he did a rather large ohm on my hip. He helped me pick the right size and answered the BAZILLION questions I had about pain thresh hold etc for me. He also fixed a little bit of the tat he did for me before (just a little fixing on the stroke) no problem.
He took breaks when I needed it and the other artists got me water when I requested it. Casual conversations to keep me distracted from the pain. Didn't even charge me an arm and a leg for the tat.

Here is a photo of the finished product. Most places would charge over 120 but Ben worked with me and my budget before I paid & got the work done.
THANK YOU BEN!!! THANK YOU DREAM JUNGLE TATTOO! I am definitely coming back for my next one.. The bitch drive is WORTH IT.
Namaste
Getting a tattoo at the Dream Jungle was a very pleasant experience. I walked in and was greeted by Alejandro (very charming), who connected me with Fernando (friendly, reassuring personality), who was to do the art work. I was told that they were "cash only" for the day and I went to the bank, while Fernando made a stencil of the computer print-out I had brought in as the desired design. It was a 1 Â 1/2 inch "V" and I also wanted some free hand "swirly things" on each side which I was fussy about and Fernando patiently redrew it with a pen several times. His steadiness of hand was great and did a very fine job with the entire design. Procedure took about 40 minutes at most, and 5 days later, is in the "peeling" stage. Swelling and bruising going down nicely (I'm doing the anti-bacterial soap and fragrance-free Palmer's cocoa butter lotion thing several times a day). The atmosphere at Dream Jungle is what you'd expect....a little dark and with a slight smoky overtone to the air, big plush seats if you need to wait for your tattoo artist, and took me back to my days in Greenwich Village. Â I love my new "V" tattoo. Thank you Fernando, you're a terrific artist!
Review Source:If you are looking for a tattoo and need a reason to go somewhere, quit looking for places and do yourself a favor.....Check Gus at Dream Jungle Tattoo..Without o doubt one of the most talented artists Ive come across.I dont believe there is a theme he cant put down to perfection........The whole family has taken advantage of his art and committment to detail. You cant ask for more from a tattoo artist.Plain and simple ,,do it right and see Gus b-4 you see anyone else......
Review Source:I got my first a tattoo here,
I was really scared, and intimidated by tattoo shops, artist and needles.
The my tattoo artist, Fernando was intimidating to me at first. He has lots of tattoos and dressed urban. He turned out to be really nice and comforting. He was patient with me when I wanted the tattoo changed 4x before I had it placed on my body.
He was fast and effective. It looks great.
The only con I have about this place was that he forgot my appointment. It was really devastating to go in ready to get a tattoo, only to go in again 3 days later. I was put on ice.
I think that was just situation, and doesn't happen to many customers.
Their service is quite nice :)
So I have this ugly 20 year old daisy tattooed on my back that I have been thinking about getting turned into a peacock feather for years. Â But I never got around to it because I didn't want to deal with the pain.
Yesterday morning I woke up and decided to look into it. Â I googled pictures of tattoos and then came to YELP to find a decent place to get it done. Â I was so impressed with the reviews for Dream Jungle that I decided to check them out. Â They didn't open until 11 a.m. so I had to wait a while, but then I drove over there and just walked in with my pictures.
I was greeted by Gus who asked to see my tattoo and my ideas. Â He said he could do it no problem. Â He also said he could do it right then. Â I was so shocked. Â I wasn't even sure I was going to go through with it but since he was available I decided to go for it.
He was nice, friendly, professional, and an amazing artist. Â It took a while and it hurt like a mofo, but I am soooo happy with my results. Â The tattoo is gorgeous and my old one is completely covered like it never existed. Â
Everyone in the shop was nice and I'm sure that any artist you get will make it a wonderful experience. Â But I would definitely recommend Gus as he did a fantastic job and didn't get angry with me as I started losing steam at the end. Â That stuff really does hurt bad!
"OMG" is what I have to say... based on the reviews from yelp and all the satisfied customers I took a leap and ended here at Dream Jungle. The place is phenomenal the decor is awesome the guys where very nice and helpful.
I got Fernando and he was very understanding gave me a few tips on the design I had with me, and I really loved his idea he pretty much knew what I was looking for, of what I wanted.I for sure will recommend this place its a 100% awesome! I have been to another place before there cool and all but Dream Jungle takes my vote from now on this is my place and I will be sending people here to this dream Jungle!!! Â Thanx guys!!
After having an idea for a tattoo in my head for a few years, I finally decided to get it done. After some research, I decided to stop by Dream Jungle for a consultation. I ended up meeting with Ben and told him my idea. It was his first time doing Chinese Sacred Lilies, and he seemed excited to do something different. We set up an appointment for the following week. Everyone at the shop was really cool and the atmosphere was relaxing. Ben made the experience fun and relatively painless, and the tattoo turned out better than I had imagined!
Review Source:I got my tattoos several years back and I knew what I didn't want was a tattoo out of some glossy picture book, or something come to find out that someone else probably has, or one that looked like I just spent a few years locked up. So, I did some research brought my ideas over to Aleks and he and I worked on a design until I was good with it all.  He had a whole bunch of sketches and what I got was a mix of a filipino slash alibata slash new guinea slash borneo design.  I love the originality, authenticity, people asking what it all means to this day, and with that, I would go back without any hesitation.  It was only a matter of time before DJT took flight - plus  all that drum and bass with the reggae sample hits blaring made all the pain go away..
I put four stars only because the dude Aleks everytime I check in is on the other side of the continent! Dubai, Australia, New Zealand...i can't keep up. Â But the work is no doubt five stars!
When looking for a local tattoo shop in the Long Beach/LA area, I used yelp to help me decide. The reviews were great so I decided to go in for a consultation. Mind you, this was gonna be my first tattoo! I walked in without making an appointment and was immediately warmly greeted. I discussed my ideas and concerns with Gus and he made me feel very confident in his workmanship. He sketched a few ideas down for me and before I knew it, I was getting my first tattoo! He did an excellent job and it definitely hurt but I didn't cry!
I love my tattoo and would recommend this place to anyone of my friends looking for a professional, clean, and affordable tattoo shop.
I had a great experience here!!
I'm an artist and had drawn my own design that I wanted.  I had gone to 3 other tattoo shops that told me there was no way I could get my design done the way I wanted because it was too intricate.  I was pretty much resigned that I would have to compromise and get something simpler than I had originally wanted.  I walked in on a Saturday and spoke to Fernando about my design.  He said "no problem and let's do it"!  This was my first tattoo so I didn't know quite what to expect.  Fernando made me feel very comfortable and he did an awesome job with my intricate, small, and thin-lined design on my inner forearm.  The whole thing took about an hour and a half.  The atmosphere in the shop is very laid back and comfortable and helped me feel relaxed.  I'll definitely be going back when I figure out the design I want next!
THIS PLACE IS THE BUSINESS!!!
I lucked out and got a spot with Gus, who is a total G. Homeboy made me feel totally comfortable, and even bought me subway since I thought I was going to pass out in the middle of the session. This place has a great vibe that kind of encapsulates the city of Long Beach: chill but they don't fck around! HIGHLY recommended.
I cannot comment on the quality of a tattoo as I never received one. I went to the shop on July 30 and spoke with Gus. I showed him the components of the design I was interested in and we made an appt for the tat for Aug. 20. It was decided that I would come in the following Saturday (a week later) to see the design.
That Saturday I called ahead but he hadn't started on it yet. A few hours hanging around town and I received a call stating he was about to start on it and could I be there in 15 minutes as they were about to close. 15 minutes? Well Ok. I drove over and asked for some changes as it didn't have all the components I asked for. Gus said he would send me a pic of the design by the following wednesday.
Over a week later I still hadn't heard from him. I told him to forget about finishing it. I wouldn't be coming in for a tat but for a refund. I did just that for him to tell me there are no refunds. He has the design the day of my appt so he fulfilled his job. The day of the appt? I'm supposed to tattoo something on my body that I've never seen before? And why didn't he tell me over the phone there were no refunds? I could have saved myself the hassle. Did he think I would be guilted or bullied into sitting for it?
Very disappointed in the customer service. It seems unless you are in the "community" or walk in and put down money to get a tat same day you might as well forget it. Apparently 4 weeks isn't enough time to draw up a simple tattoo request.
I called in last minute, requesting appointments for 3 people. Despite the long lead time & jam packed schedule, Aleks was able to accommodate us especially after I told him we were traveling from the bay. The tats we got were fairly simple so it was quick & easy to do! Both Aleks & Gus, definitely made it an awesome 1st experience (for us virgins to tattoos). Â They did everything to make sure we were comfortable and happy! Â After all, it is important since tattoos are permanent. Â We had such an awesome time, chatting it up with them & the other guy getting tatted up by Aleks. Â
My girls & I were pleased with the work & service. Â Some of the girls are planning on going back for more tats that entail more elaborate designs, which they will be going to Aleks for. Â One of the girls has already secured a date and has already placed a deposit. Â
We are all in love with Aleks! Â Not only is he fine, but he is nice, well-traveled, & can carry a conversation with intelligent women. Â He is also charming, easy to talk to, & chill! Â If he's got a girl, she's a lucky gal. Â If he's single, then he's going to cause some fights! hahahaha.
Gus is a big teddy bear! Â He was super awesome despite the bad morning he had (getting a speeding ticket and not having extra clothes other than his motorcycle gear). He was accommodating, funny, and made our first experience worthwhile!
I got my most recent tatt at Dream Jungle simply because of the good reviews. Â Sure ppl will always bash something, but overall there was a fair share of GOOD reviews. Â
I'm no stranger to tattoos so I am aware of how most artists charge (by the hour). Â Walked in & chatted it up w/ Gus. Â I had some samples & expressed ideas of what I wanted. Â To respect Gus's business I won't disclose how much I paid, but he worked out a deal where I basically got 4-5 hours worth of work for HELLA-CHEAP! An appointment was immediately set up for the following wknd. Â He tweaked out my tatt w/ his own twist and it turned out A LOT better than the original and what I had anticipated. Â
Would have rated 5 stars, but parking was a turn off (when you're in the hood you gotta make due). Â Also I was waiting for a good while before we even got started. Â Gus failed to communicate he was sitting there drawing out ideas for me, while I was wondering what was taking so long.
Overall I'm happy w/ my tatt and would def go back again.
I did a lot of research to locate an artist whose approach, style, and knowledge-base made sense for my first tattoo. After reading through Aleks's site (<a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Ffilipinotattoos.com&s=a0344399750d4d215cfff7cc792183549b0c9aa44bd2897e03f815f327581ba4" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://filipinotattoos.c…</a>), I made an appointment with him (back in November 2010) for May 2011. The wait was completely worth it. Coincidentally, I got to hear Aleks speak in the meantime at a UCLA class on Asian tattoo history and culture--the guy knows his stuff and is constantly researching and designing to keep it that way. If you are going to trust anyone to do your Filipino tattoo (or anything else--he is mad talented), it should be Aleks.
At my appointment, I told Aleks where and about what size I wanted my tattoo, and we discussed what I wanted the design to represent and symbolize. He spent some time drawing on my shoulder, erasing and reworking, asking my preference on certain aspects, then we moved on to the actual tattooing. Thanks to Aleks, the entire experience was positive, entertaining, and memorable in the best way. I am in love with everything about my tattoo. I will be going back for more art, for sure.
I recently got my piercings done by Brandi Jean. I asked her a bunch of questions and she was very helpful. I was super nervous and she talked me through it and eased my fears. She made it as quick as possible. After words she give me after care instructions that that were simple and easy to follow.
Over all the staff was friendly and welcoming.
The only  draw back if any, I left with a crush on Aleks.
This review is for a tattoo I got a couple of years ago. Â
Many of friends have tattoos and I've always gone and witnessed their experience, this helped me prepare myself for what was to come. Â I decided to get alibata on my ribcage and knowing this was a sensitive spot I came prepared. Â I had a friend hold for me my mouthpiece (just incase the pain was too unbearable), starbursts (just incase my blood sugar dropped), and my vitamin water (just incase I got thirsty).
As soon as Aleks turned on machine and the buzzing noise started I thought I was gon die!!! Images from videos on youtube of people getting rib tattoos who were screaming and crying were playing in my head.....to my surprise, it was bad at all... I WAS SHOCKED!!!!
Overall I was really happy with the final result.
I found Dream Jungle searching the web. I was looking for someone local who knew how to do Alibata writing. I went there to check out establishment. Gus took care of me since Alek wasn't available. Â He was helpful and professional. This was my 1st tattoo & I'm glad I chose the right place. Dream Jungle has a good vibe. I sugest you to try them out.
Review Source:Nothing but real facts about Filipino Script writing. Real spit. Dude, Alecs knows his history and definitely goes off on creativity while keeping it Pinoy. He makes sure that the tat your getting is yours and only yours. The patterns will always be significant to you and about you. Got work done on my right arm. Had a half sleeve done and it was exactly what I was waiting for. About to get my other side done soon. Cant say enough about this place.
Review Source:Very friendly staff, and clean environment (which we all is important for tats and piercings). Â Got my industrial done here, and they were perfect. Got it done a little while back, but I think it was Teddy or something like that who did a great job.
I'd recommend this tat parlor! I'd come again if I were looking to get more piercings.
I chose Dream Jungle from Yelp and the reviews. Â Yelp was right. Â They were very friendly and after they decided I wasn't some old coot coming in to get info they were very helpful. Â I talked with Gus and showed him what I had in mind. He nailed it . Â I was very impressed with his immediate conceptualization I made an appointment and we finalized the drawing.
A very cool place and Gus is a real artist. Â The work took about four hours and half way through Aleks came over and congratulated me. Â He said I was officially the oldest person they'd inked. Â I'm seventy one. Â I can't say enough about the place. Fun, friendly, clean and real artists. I'm a retired advertising photographer and I appreciate their talent.
AWESOME PLACE!
Got my second islander inspired ink done here; first time was in Hawaii. I've talked to Aleks a few times at FPAC and he couldn't be any cooler. I admit I wanted to know what he was about and what his intentions were... was it more for the money or for the art? What was his knowledge of the traditional art of Pre-Spanish Tattoos in the in Philipines? After our talks, he gained my trust; he was all about the art.
He wanted to get to know the person before slappin' on some ink and a design didn't portray the person's true character or family history. Other people charged a lot, even for research, but he didn't. We went back and forth for about two months just so he got to know my personality. When he was satisfied, we settled on a day and I went in.
When I got the ink done, he wasn't in business too long. I believe he didn't have any other artist then. His place looks more like a trendy coffee shop or art gallery than most other stereotypical tattoo shops. Anyway, he spent an hour on a possible design, he put it down freehand first with a marker in about 45 minutes. He was very patient. If I didn't like a certain part, he changed it. I'm planning on getting more work done here.
All in all, a very good experience. His price was the most reasonable out there for doing Filipino inspired designs, especially with the one-on-one counseling he gives to his clients. He also uses an old technique for tattoo care and it REALLY WORKS! It actually healed faster than my first tattoo and it didn't scar as bad. Even my friends that have ink couldn't believe how smooth it came out and how clean the lines were, all because of his post-tattoo care technique. He's not full of shit folks like other artists.
I DO NOT AGREE WITH FELLOW YELPER TERRY T. with her review. I'm not disputing her feelings at the time when she went in. I've been in there before when new artists to the other chairs and they were cool. Terry T., ask yourself this, what was your attitude at the time? Most people respond to negativity with negativity.. you give off a bad vibe, then you'll be dealt with in an equal reaction.. they had a bad day and screwed up, but they're only human, just like you. But you're right, if you feel they weren't professional, go somewhere else. But I will say it doesn't sound like normal business if they were pressuring you for a deposit when you didn't even decide to get work done there or not. That was unfortunate you went through that. Hope your tattoo experience went well elsewhere.
Okay folks, if you want Islander based tattoos, give Dream Jungle a call and ask for Aleks. If you want other type of ink work done, this is still the place to go. The other artists on the other chairs are amazing. Super cool folks, but if you go through a similar situation that TERRY T. went through, call them out on it and I'm sure they'll apologize and they'll treat you with the respect and dignity you deserve. If they don't seem cool, feel free to give another shop a shot. Good Luck!
Me and a friend of mines came here for just a small tattoo. We went to a few others asking around for quotes. It wasnt bad around 60 bucks for just a small love symbol. We came here about 30 mins before they were ready to close, but there was an hour wait. ONly one artist and the front desk was pretty rude. They were trying to charge us 100 bucks for that one inch tattoo and they were saying nonsense to try to convince us that they were giving us a deal.,, they started photo copying images of the symbol and talking about placing a deposit. which i thought was rather insane because we didnt give them a definate answer. I just think this place is trying to take as much as possible from you as they can. i wouldnt suggest going here. NOT VERY PROFESSIONAL!
Review Source:I have stopped by the shop a couple times in the past few months to have consultations with Gus about getting a second tattoo. During my first visit he sat down with me and did sketches based on the vague ideas I had in my mind. The sketches were great but still not exactly what I wanted. A month or so went by and after some thought, I called Gus back for another consultation. This time I had a much better idea of what I wanted in my piece, but I didn't know exactly where I wanted it placed on my body. Gus made suggestions based on the shape of the tattoo and how it would best compliment my curves. I was surprised that he had something to say about the placement, but I was grateful for his honest opinion. The final sketch turned out beautifully and erased all doubts I had about getting a second tattoo.
After each consultation, I made dates for an appointment to finally get the ink done. Unfortunately, both times something came up (on my end) and I was unable to go through with it. Â I felt like the biggest flake, but Gus was so understanding and told me to just let him know when I'm completely ready. He kept reminding me (this is somewhat paraphrased), "This will be on your body forever. Don't do it if it doesn't feel right." ...What an awesome guy, right? Good lookin' out! Even at the risk of losing my business...
The fact that I haven't gone through with it yet has nothing to do with doubt or fear. Once things fall into place, I will get my ink. (I mean, I DID already drop the deposit!) And I will recommend Gus, just as I've recommended Aleks, to anyone seeking a talented and honest artist who will create a quality piece of art for your body.
For our first year anniversary, my husband surprised me with a gift that will last his lifetime. A tattoo of my name scrolled across his heart.
The typography is beautiful, simple, yet artistic. He was in and out quickly. He loves how the shop was decorated, and the friendly service.
Thanks Gus! You made one married lady very happy!
Yesterday I got my first tattoo & I have to say that Gus did a perfect job. It did not hurt as much as I thought it would. The tattoo turned out just the way I wanted it to be.. I am delighted & cant wait to get another one soon.. Loved the ambiance of the parlor, very different from the regular setup.. I would highly recommend this place..5 stars from me..thanks Gus :)
Review Source:Its hard to find anything bad about this place. I had my first peice done my Aleks a few years ago and I don't regret going to him for one minute. The way he visualized what i wanted my tattoo to represent, and the way he tells the story in the artwork is amazing. He incorporates as much as he can about you into the peice so its not like anything else you'd see out there.
I'm actually currently having another peice worked on by one of the other artists at the shop.
I wouldn't go anywhere else to get a tattoo. If you want to have Aleks personally work on you, it might be a few months before he can get you in, but its worth the wait.
I decided that I wanted to get a small tattoo in honor of my Dad, who passed away recently. Â I'd never gotten a tattoo before, so I chose to go to Dream Jungle because of all the glowing reviews on Yelp. Â I called early in the week to make an appointment, and Gus told me that he would do my tattoo Saturday at 3:00. Â So I spent all Saturday morning and early afternoon psyching myself up for actually getting the tattoo done.
When I arrived at Dream Jungle, it turned out that Gus had told another client to come in at 3:00 as well. Â And since the other client had come in and put down a deposit, Gus was going to work on him. Â He told me that is just how it works, and I don't doubt him. Â (After all, I spent the week Googling "Do wrist tattoos hurt?" rather than "how tattoo shops work.") Â But if he had told me that on the phone, I would have come in earlier and put down a deposit myself. Â Gus tried to get me to come back another time, but really, I felt like I was ready and I really wanted to get it done. Â So he offered to do my tattoo after the other client's, and I sat down to wait. Â (Fortunately, I always have a book with me.)
After about an hour, I was starting to think I should just call it a day and go back to researching tattoo shops again. Â But then another artist finished with his client and came out to ask me what I was having done. Â I showed him my design and he said that he could do it and it would take him about ten minutes, and I was thrilled. Â
Al turned out to be just the kindest guy, and I am really glad that he was the one who did my tattoo. Â He was so careful and gentle. Â And I couldn't be happier with the way it turned out.
I was inspired by some of my cousins' alibata tattoos with the 8-rayed sun and 5-point stars... but I wanted a unique one to call my own. I had a girlfriend draw some plum blossoms just to show what type of flowers I'd want as a tatt and then incorporate alibata translations of my last name and my mom's maiden name.
When I came in to show Aleks, he definitely envisioned something I would fall in love with forever. The placement of the flowers and the alibata translations were perfect! This experience could not have gotten any better! But it sure did! Getting tatted up was one of the most exciting moments in my life!
It's been 3 years since I've stepped foot into Dream Jungle, but it's definitely not going to be my last! :D
Just set up an appointment today for a tattoo by Aleks, great guy, great experience.  These guys really care for their customers.  I havn't even been worked on, but the initial meeting sold me on the kind of work and passion they have for what they do.  I even met a current client who first hand explained his journey of being tattooed by Aleks.  You don't see dollar bills in their eyes,  I was really  impressed.  See you guys in July!!!!
Review Source:Came back here for a second tattoo on saturday with my husband, we both got our wedding date, mine on my wrist, his on his forearm. we came here the thursday before, and there were already 3 people waiting to get tattoos, so we went to get an appointment with Gus. we told him what we wanted and he quoted us a great price.
Gus is such a cool guy and takes care of his customers. saturday was pretty empty, which suited us just fine, we had another great experience here at Dream Jungle. the session was short and pain was minimal. Â We wanna thank Gus again for the great tattoos!!
WOW !
SERIOUSLY
WOW!
If you want a tattoo and want it done right I definitely recommend this shop.
This guys certainly know what they are doing, they are polite, and really really funny(:
A zillion thumbs up(:
Thanks GUSSSS YUR THE BEST
I love MY tatt!!!
without a doubt you'll see me back(:
HONESTLY Â I highly highly recommend this guys they're top notch
Well we went the Saturday before Valentine's Day and finally got our tattoos. Â We went to Gus who is GREAT!! Â It was my first tattoo which I did not tell him until I was already seated and he so calmly looked at me saying, "Oh, you will be fine." Â I highly recommend this tattoo parlor very professional and hilarious (all the guys have a wonderful sense of humor and are good looking!!) Â That is what I call icing on the cake. ;)
Review Source:I got my first tattoo a couple weeks ago with Al Ramone. AL is an AMAZING artist! I got my Phoenix done with him and it was perfect!! We couldnt finish the whole tattoo in one session so I have to go back for the coloring. But so far Im extremely happy with my tattoo! Â The other guys there in the shop were cool and welcoming. Overall had a great experience with those guys!
Review Source:I found Dream Jungle when I was on a quest to find the "just right" spot to have my body permanently altered with my 2nd tattoo. Â I began online and then hit the pavement looking for the following:
1. Amazing work as shown in the portfolio books: Â Check
2. Non "death metal from the late 80's" feel: Â Check
3. Personable staff: Â Double Check (all of the staff felt like they were "in" on the experience, talking about the design, remembering the little things, etc.)
4. Solid reputation: Â Check (read the other reviews!)
5. Willingness to work together: Â Triple Check. Al went above and beyond to listen to our ideas and give his own artistic input, including multiple sketches and brainstorming.
6. Cool ambiance: Â Double Check. Â This place is small, but ultra zen.
With that list, there was only one location that brought it and then some. Â I was even further impressed with the place being so welcome to our group of friends chillin, letting us play our own beats (although the stuff they had rocked as well), and being respectful and smart ass. Â But in the end, it's the final product that matters (and the price, which also made me smile ear to ear). Â Absolute perfection. Â Both of us can't stop looking at our pieces of art! Â I just hope that I can contain the urge to plan my next stop. Â I think I can, I think I can...
I was tattooed here yesterday and my appointment was early so I woke up showered and went over. Gus drew up an interpretation of the picture of the tattoo I wanted  a couple of days prior to my appointment. It was a cover up piece and it turned out fantastic. Gus and the whole crew were so amazingly nice and helpful especially when I passed out TWICE. Tattoos hurt what can I say? For being as lame as I was Gus did a great job, I would certainly recommend this place to my friends and family. Thank You to everyone at Dream Jungle for being so helpful. Oh and my tattoo kicked ass BTW, totally worth all the pain :).
Review Source:After years of searching and going back forth about where to get my tattoo, I finally made the decision to stop by here at Dream Jungle.
I called for a consultation, then I set up an appointment on a Sunday even though they were usually closed, they set it up for me. I spoke to Aleks over the phone, and Gus was the one that did my tattoo.
I was extremely nervous when I went in, but talking to Aleks and to Gus calmed me down a bit, and I was really excited for my tattoo. It took a little over 4 hours to complete, and after everything was done I was beyond ecstatic with my tattoo.
Not only does this place have a cool atmosphere, but the artists really know what they're doing too. I can't wait to come back and get my next tattoo here.
I just had an owl tattooed on my wrist by Al Ramone, and it came out absolutely beautiful! He took his time to get it perfect. I could not ask for a better price or a better tattoo, especially since I did it to honor my deceased grandmother who's favorite animal was an owl. I took in a pic she had in her collection and the end result is extremely similar to the original. Definitely going back soon!!!!! Very nice and clean establishment as well. THANKS GUYS! Xoxo
Review Source:I went in for a tattoo touch up today and thought I'd drop a review.
I got three white star outlined on my wrist. I got it done by Gus last July, and in the time span the tattoo had faded significantly. At the time, he was very conscientious and took his time on it. Despite that, I felt like as it was healing, I could tell some places were done deeper than others. I would need to get re-inked. But I waited till this week to do it.
They are closed on Sunday and Monday so I went on Tuesday. They also close at 7pm so I rushed over after work - Gus has said that if I got there by 6:30, it'd be cool. As I got there, Aleks was leaving, and he talked to me for a while about white ink tattoos, what I wanted, etc... I really appreciated the conversation, because when I sat down with Gus, he didn't really talk much about how it faded or why. Gus ended up touching up the tattoo though... I think he rushed the job a little bit at the end and now as the tat is peeling it looks like not enough ink was dropped in.
I know, white ink tattoos are tough. But I really like the community feel to Dream Jungle - they do so much for the community. I may have to retouch the tattoo a third time, but I'll wait till I get a second tattoo done somewhere else on my body. I think for the second one though, I'd like Aleks to be the artist to work on me - every time I talk to him he is the sweetest guy and he really knows his stuff. He instills trust and confidence.
Also - I didn't get charged for the touch-up. Tattoo touch-ups are a part of the initial charge. But I did drop a nice tip. There is a $60 minimum fee for any tattoo they do.
I just got my tattoo done by Al Ramone today and I love love love it! He did a cover up for me and it is amazing! I showed him a picture of what I wanted to cover up my rose tattoo with and he turned it into this beautiful lotus flower. So much better than what I expected! I definitely encourage anyone to go to Al for their Ink work if they want a great job done.
Review Source:I've been wanting to get a tattoo for a while and my cousin told me about Dream Jungle so I went in for my consultation. I consulted Al Ramon about what I was looking for. I was unsure of the size I wanted so he put a stencil on me so I would get a better idea.
I went in two days later and had a better idea of what I was looking for. He created another stencil and I absolutely loved it. When it was over, I took a look at my new tattoo and could not believe how amazing it looked. It turned out better than I had ever imagined. Al put so much detail to it and he incorporated everything that I wanted. I am so happy with my new tattoo!! I love it!!!
Everyone there is pretty chill and I highly recommend Dream Jungle!
another great experience at Dream Jungle Tattoo. And, this time I got inked up by Gus.
The experience was cool because of the people around you. This review includes stars for both the venue and the people in it. Aleks has made a great addition to this place by the artists he has brought in. They are very friendly and just overall lax.
My addiction has branched off into another piece...this time on my back.
Am I coming back? you better "facking" believe it!
This place has a very cool vibe and decor. It's not like your typical Tattoo place. Place was very clean and sheik. Music was also good!
Aleks is a very talented artist! My cousin went to get inked the day after I did because she was so impressed with his work and was highly recommended by me and my BFF.
Everyone is friendly as well.
Nuff said ... go get inked at Dream Jungle Tattoo!
I love this guy. Aleks actually did my first tattoo exactly 1 month ago. Not at his shop, but at his friend's pad in Oakland. After years of wanting one, but never really sure of what I wanted, I finally decided to take the plunge.  It was extremely important to me that he do the piece that I have. First because he knows his Alibata, and second because when I first met him 5 + years ago, he was tattooing my  husband (again at a friend's house un Oakland). My husband's been through  a whole lot this past year battling the "BIG C" as we lovingly referred to his then-ailment. I wanted something to represent him. I wanted the words poet , athelete & survivor in Alibata. I had no idea of what size or where I wanted it.  After he sketched out the design, and put it on my back, I knew it was exactly what I wanted. I didn't plan for it to be as big as it ended up being, but damn it turned out to be  a beautiful piece of work. Aleks is a super chill guy who knows his shit, and is passionate about his work without being pretentious. Interesting, but funny sense of humor too. After working 2 12 hour night shifts, and on no sleep, I was extremely stressed and anxious when I first got to the house. After shooting the shit for what felt like an hour, by the time he started, I was totally relaxed and in the "get this over with" mode. He worked fast and finished it in an hour. Funny, every time I hear anything by New Edition, all I can think of is the buzz of the tattoo gun thing since thats what was playing in the background (per my request !) If you live in the Bay, and don't have time to go to SoCal, contact him and he may be able to arrange something when he's in the area. Oh yeah, bonus star for being easy on the eyes =)
Review Source:I got my first tattoo done at Dream Jungle Tattoo by renowned artist Aleks Figueroa this past tuesday.
I knew I wanted 3 things incorporated into the tattoo: The last names of my parents, the Philippine coat of arms, and some philippine neo-tribal patterns. I got to the studio at 11:30am and the sketch work began. Aleks spent about an hour drawing the design on me free-hand, making many changes due to the fact that he is a perfectionist when it comes to his work, and it had to be done just right. After he finished free-handing the design, he told me that this design was something different than what he has done in the past and that he liked the direction that it was headed in. He stepped back and told me to look into the mirror. I was blown away. I had different sharpie colors outlining the design, and I could tell it was going to be awesome.
Next, I got into the chair, he fired up his tattoo machine and started to make the first line on my tricep. I experienced 3 different feelings while being tattoo'd. At first it was like duct tape was being pulled from my skin; After about an hour, when I was numbing out the pain, it felt like a tickling-buzzing vibration, and towards the end when I was fatigued (5 hours in) it felt like a hot knife cutting your skin.
After 5-6 hours and 3 15 minute breaks, my tattoo was done. I looked in the mirror and was even more amazed at what I saw than the first time. The shading, the intricate brush-stroke like lines in the alibata, and the overall shape were more than I could have ever imagined. I walked in with an idea, and walked out with a masterpiece. Aleks incorporated crocodile skin patterns for strength and protection, different plant and leaf patterns representing a solid foundation, good health, and long life, and repeating patterns of 4 representing the number of people in my family.
Aleks is an awesome guy, and a great visionary artist. Do yourself a favor and get some work done by him.
Aleks is a great artist...very personable and easy to work with.
Studio has cool ambience, could have slept on the sofa if it wasn't for the people walking by.....as a matter of fact, who cares, but wasn't that sleepy.
Everyone is friendly.
Good beats.
Took my friends here also.......they love it! Â Need I say more.
Aleks is very talented. I was looking for a Filipino tribal tattoo artist. I found aleks through <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fpinoytattoo.com&s=b9d34eba134519ebe702cfb1bb59b9a3fb3e48c011730f8f83370c73f200859e" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://pinoytattoo.com</a>. i saw one of the poster got his tattoo from aleks but that didnt get my attention. Ive asked my boss and he said he got his filipino tribal from Aleks. He said Aleks has a shop somewhere in Long beach. I did a lil bit of google and he was all over. Checked out yelp and <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Ffilipinotatoos.com&s=e6c2893d5719ddae66a5de48604d66daa58189051823813ea11a34c3639b1be0" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://filipinotatoos.com</a>. Â Lets just say I always do my homework before I make a move. Â I called Aleks and set up a meeting. Heres what happened:
1. He asked me personal questions and FREE HAND the design on my arm (who does that? you could tell he has amazzzzzzzzzing skils). After that he would ask me if i liked the design. Of course i liked it. its badass! He also explained whats the meaning of the tattoo.
2. Design starts at 12pm and ends at 2pm. Also, we ate lunch between those time. He inked me from 2pm till 7:30pm. of course we have a couple of breaks.
The piece was half sleeve and my arm is huge. I still have to come back for a 2nd session since my sister was complaining ( i brought her so she can drive), i was in pain, and aleks said its better to do it go for 2nd session so im refresh.
I scheduled my 2nd session on december. I will post it complete piece after its complete.
Also, i could tell the difference how he inks and an amatuer tattoo artist (my friend did a piece on my chest) ink. I dont feel that much pain the way he does it.
I showed the tattoo to my friends and 2 of my homies said they would get their piece from Aleks. Thats how amazing his design was.
Aleks = cool & very talented.
yes, aleks is a dope artist.
1 star for the kind hospitality
1 star for the no-pressure consultation
1 star for the numerous sketches I never went with
1 star for the Sharpie-on-skin sample
1 star for claiming my tat the absolute smallest he's ever done
1 star for engaging conversation where i left feeling that i could ameliorate my self being
wait-- that's 6 stars.... deduct 1 star for the Sharpie taking forever to come off. aleks and his tattoo skills get FIVE STARS.
I think it was over 10 years ago when Aleks (the owner of Dream Jungle) did my first tattoo. Turns out, I was his 6th or 7th client. Even back then, he was already building his repertoire, working closely with me to come up with something that represented what I was about.
From there, Aleks paid his dues. Working at the acclaimed Black Wave Tattoo in L.A. Going on 'tours' throughout the year to ink up folks from Seattle to NYC. Airbrushing tattoos on little kids at festivals.
So finally last month, I decided to pay Aleks a visit to get more ink work done: a sleeve that started from my lower bicep and went around my shoulder. And though it was (of course) PAINFUL, the piece itself is impeccable. And again, Aleks asked me questions and engaged me in discussion that would end up going into the piece itself. What I really appreciate about Aleks is that, even though he does do the traditional Filipino design, he doesn't BS you about it being this or that. He is clear about the disconnect between the homeland and here, and that what he's creating is influenced by traditional designs, AND is also an evolution of the art as it relates to Filipinos here in the US.
Basically what I'm saying is, if you want it done right, go to Dream Jungle.
Dream Jungle Tattooists are pretty awesome. Walter and I met them while at the Filipino Arts & Culture Festival in San Pedro, CA this past weekend. The guys who work here are awesome. Not only is their personality and vibe real laid back and cool, it was really friendly and honet. I appreciated one of the artists who told me and Walter to be sure that we NEVER pay for a tattoo design. Tattoo designs should be exactly what you want and nothing less. I loved that the artists were real honest and admitted to you, "DUH!! Yeah, it's gonna hurt. What do you think?" Ha ha! I was thinking the same thing when this girl asked that question. HA ha! I couldn't believe what I'd heard. Anyways, his response was real. The time and effort and detail that goes into each masterpiece was awesome too. We saw tons of pictures and talked to a few different very satisfied customers. It can be hard to find some real good tattoo artists who are able to do some alibata or tribal work on you. So, this was perfect for Walter...It helped spark some tattoo ideas. Watch out. You may see a sleeve in a lil while.
Review Source:i LOVE this place. Â aleks is awesome and is extremely talented. Â he's super friendly and made me feel totally comfortable. Â he was fast and detail oriented and i love his work! Â
seriously.. i was completely sh!tting bricks prior to the needlework and i was DYING. Â lol aleks was really cool about it and honestly it wasn't even that bad. Â i mean.. it's a tattoo.. it's gonna hurt - there's no denying that.. but it's tolerable. Â
i met him for a consultation earlier this month and he was so cool and easy to get along with.. so i scheduled my appt for last friday and now i'm trying to schedule a day to talk to him about my next piece! Â i have 2 others from years ago that need to be retouched/added onto and i'm definitely going back to aleks at dream jungle.
anyway.. i love my new tattoo soooo much. Â it says "thug life" in baybayin down my left side. Â ok not really. Â more like.. my middle and last name. Â haha. Â but it IS down my left side from my lower ribcage down to my hipbone. Â it's beautiful. Â he did the lettering with brushstroke detail.. can't wait to go back!
I was always afraid to get a tattoo because I thought if I commit a crimeI will be found and Identified.
Well it has been years and years and since I never started that criminal career I always dreamed about I ended up gettting one ( I will yelp the first 1 later)
This is my second Tatt the first one I have is a tribal Ta Moko tattoo done by a established New Zealand artist
I wanted to stay along the lines of tribal so I researched for 2 years about filipino tribal tattoos and I read several articles etc...about the artist
I contacted Aleks by email 2 years ago and he emailed me back he actually knew my uncle ( he is a filipino poet from the bay  <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.tony-robles.com%2Falrobles%2Fhome.html&s=7f01f9c47cfb8ed90653fc673a448e9c7e499b49a0bcff9a733354eac9a4f89a" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://www.tony-robles.c…</a>) Â
and 1 of  my cousins( he wrote a bilingual filipino english childrens book <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.tony-robles.com&s=308bacb032f28690a0e072f88913a802c88f45bfb219af5b6d22250bccdbb7e6" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://www.tony-robles.c…</a>)
Anyways he emailed me back and I let another year pass before I decided to contact him again I looked on his web site and he had some Yay area dates..
I had a consulatation and met with him I liked his vibe so I paid a $100 deposit for my future tatt and we discussed what I wanted and what he could create for me
At first I was just going to get Alibata/Babyin ancient filipino script on my arm..Aleks thought it would be good to play off of the other tribal tattoo on the opposite arm and design something that would compliment that. I liked the direction it was going in and we set up an appt for the following month
I ended up canceling my appt due to vacation plans and wanting to be able to go out in the sun with my tatt and have no worries..(Miami is Hot and Humid)
I told him I would give him a call I decided to make a trip to him and last Friday I went to long beach...I am very satisfied with my new Ink
Aleks did great work and the people I met while gettin my tatt  were hell of cool..
I would definitely go back when im ready for something bigger
Did it Hurt????
Never let em see you sweat
