Just got my first tattoo today and i love it! the place is so clean and made my mom and i very comfortable when we walked it.
Alvin was my artist and he is amazing! Took our design and made it even better! Did a great job with the tattoo and a great job explaining how to take care of it. Totally recommend him!
I am one of three members of my family who received great tattoos by the one and only Colby Chesterfield.  When I spoke with Colby about my tattoo idea I had great faith what he would come up would be awesome but I was literally blown away with his finished artwork. His design far exceed my expectations. Plus he covered up an old tattoo and a surgery scar all with the same tattoo.  His designs are sharp, unique, and  you will be proud to show off his work.
Review Source:I came into the shop on June 8,2013 to get my first tattoo done by Alvin Aldridge. I brought in a picture of the tattoo I wanted and he replicated the image exactly how it was and did a wonderful job! I was very happy with how it all went that I came in on June 15,2013 and got two more tattoos done by Alvin Aldridge again! Both times were equally fantastic and the most important part is I am happy with the outcome of all my tattoos! Definitely will come in again to Alvin when I would like another tattoo!
Review Source:Very friendly staffs! I love coming in for a session. There's so much for you to look at when you're there. The environment there is just so relaxing. I'm so glad they have a parking lot, so I'm not on the street looking for parking and late for my appointment. Walking in there every time for a session is so welcoming.
My artist is Alvin Aldridge. I love his work. He's very helpful with great suggestions and comments. He's done 3 tattoos on me already. I'm hoping to finish a sleeve with him very soon. I recommend him.
I got an impromptu tattoo that I'd been wanting for years. Â My friend was there getting a large back piece from Alvin, and I decided while sitting there watching that I wanted something too. Â This shop is extremely clean, professional, and EVERYONE working is nice. Â Alvin did some very intricate printing on my wrist, and it is amazing. Â He also touched up a tattoo that wasn't so cleanly lined that I got at All Hallows Ink in Fullerton.
Review Source:Super friendly staff.
I was skeptical about getting a tattoo and was doing some deep research and I found this place in OC! I walked into this place three times before I decided to get a tattoo. I was browsing through the work they've done on someone else, and most of them are beautiful and artistic. I got a tattoo and my artist was Michael. He's very patient and understanding, since it's my first tattoo. Throughout the entire process I was pretty much up tight and after that I was pleased with the tattoo. He did a great job and explained the after care thoroughly with another artist Alvin, who's super friendly as well. I will definitely come back here once I decide to have another tattoo.
First off, the service in this shop is really great. Very professional and talented staff. My tattoo artist was micheal nguyen, he has a great eye, not too light/ heavy on the lines, very personable. The other day i was in costa mesa and complimented an older women in her tatt work and she said she gets all her work at fine tattoo. Its official! New fave place to get work!
Review Source:i've been looking for someone to work on a chest piece for several years now. ive taken such a long time not because i was unsure, i just wanted to make sure i found the right person to handle this "forever" art work. tattoos are for life and the decision should not be taken lightly. my wife had work done at FTW several years ago and it came out fantasic so it was a natrual choice to at least give these guys a look. with all that said, my journey took me to FTW. after looking at a few books there in the shop i met with MICHAEL DUKE NGUYEN. he is a very talented artist and a humble person. soft spoken and good vibes, this guy is all about making sure you get what you desire.
the shop overall is very clean and layed out well. very comfortable. the front desk staff is attentive and promt to help. if your looking for your first tattoo or adding to the art you already have FTW and MICHAEL wont let you down. after last nites late nite tattoo, MICHAEL and I already have plans to add and finish my chest piece once this one heals. thanks brother!
I have been wanting to get a crown on my side for a while now, and finally decided to pull the trigger. I mentioned this to a friend of mine who immediately said, "Go to Buzzy!". I'm pretty good at following directions, so I made my way down there and booked my appointment with Buzzy. Not only was he super easy to talk to, but was very accommodating and reasonably priced for the creativity and quality. I came back a week later for my appointment and was super impressed by his station. I was a little nervous about walking around a tattoo shop with only a bikini top on, but I never mentioned this to Buzzy- you gotta just deal with it. However, when we got there, he had set up dividers around his whole station in order to keep me covered. I was blown away by his thoughtfulness, creativity, ability, and cleanliness of the shop. This place definitely does not give you that pompous tattoo feel- these are just chill guys who like art. Definitely will be back.
Review Source:Found FTW on Yelp and was not disappointed. The young gentleman who greeted us was really nice and introduced us to Steve Goodspeed. Steve was very helpful with trying to solidify what we wanted. I appreciate him telling us what would work and not work, not just doing what we wanted. It was personal to him too. We came back the following day to get out tattoos and we were very satisfied. Clean work area and everyone was nice. Price was good too. I'd recommend to anyone.
Review Source:I decided on the spur of the moment to finally get a tattoo. My mothers name on my ribs, I figured why not finally get it. I walked into fine tattoo work and was welcomed by a very friendly receptionist. I never once felt intimidated or unwelcome for being a "newb" I set an appointment with Alvin who came up with a really beautiful cursive design. The place itself is clean and welcoming. Alvin was very nice an made me feel very comfortable. After about 30 mins I left with a beautiful tattoo that I can't wait to show off! Thanks again fine tattoo work, I'll make sure to come in again my next trip to so cal :)
Review Source:My brother recommended FTW to my niece and I after getting some work done here. Â When we walked in, Â the shop was very clean, to my RN eye, and everyone there was friendly, didn't make us feel like we didn't belong there. Â After looking through everyone's books, I chose Mike Nguyen to do my tattoo, as he had a pic of a flying pig, and I wanted a monkey/pig tattoo to represent my kids' signs. Â After talking with Mike for about 5 minutes, mostly me rambling because I was nervous, he gave my a basic idea for a design that was actually exactly what I had in mind!! Â The lines on my tat are crisp, the colors vibrant. Â I am incredibly happy with his work. Â He had a very light hand, and as long as I could watch him, Â it really didn't even hurt much. Â I absolutely recommend FTW!!!
Review Source:I cruised out to FTW for my first time last night with a buddy of mine so he could get some work done by our friend Alvin.
First off, the area is really mellow & parking is very convenient. The tattoo shop itself is so nice & clean, the inside layout is really open & inviting. With all that being said, i'd imagine that would give any first timers a good feeling about what they're about to get into.
I'm pretty sure the whole staff of artists were there that night, if not then a good handful were. All of them were really down to earth & nice people, from the owner Lucky down to the newest member of the crew, Alvin.
All of the work done by the artists at FTW is really good, with an eclectic staff you can get any tradition/style of tattoo there from what i've seen. Check each artists' stuff out so you can better pin point who's natural style pertains to what piece you're trying to get, although everyone there is more than capable of doing a great job. Honestly, the photos on Yelp don't really do this shop justice in my opinion.. I recommend cruising in there & see for yourself. You can tell Lucky takes a lot of pride in his (as well as the other artists there) work that they put in by everything up on the walls & each of their stations.
I'll definitely be getting a few things done here at Fine Tattoo Work in the near future.
The week before my boyfriend's birthday, I decided to surprise his virgin ass with a tattoo he had been talking about for the past year. I yelped it tattoo shops in OC, Fine Tattoo Work popped up, I looked at all the artists' work on the website and was surprised that I actually liked all of the artists. I drove over down after work to put down my $40 deposit to save my appointment time. It was exciting not knowing who I was going to get as the tattooist. I got BUZZY!! I gave Buzzy "He Who Is Brave Is Free". My boyfriend is a comedian and had talked about getting that saying on his inner bicep to look at before he goes on stage. The whole conversation was easy and fun. Buzzy said he was going to draw up a couple styles for us. I left that night an excited, happy camper.
Day of tattoo: My boyfriend did not know where I was taking him for his birthday, but he kept nervously stating that "If you're bringing me to get a tattoo, I'm not ready; I need to mentally prepare for it." When we pulled up to the shop that clearly says "Fine Tattoo Work," I threateningly yelled at him that he was going to get this tattoo that day. It was an overall great experience, as it was my boyfriend's first tattoo and our first time with Buzzy, whose lettering and tattooing skills are bomb-diggity. LOVE LOVE LOVE the tattoo, Buzzy, and the shop!! Life's short, go get tatted....by Fine Tattoo Work :)
Was referred by a friend for my first tattoo. Lucky and Colby were very good about walking me through the process and explaining everything.
Colby designed a badass tattoo.
I could not be happier with the Quality of the work, friendliness of the staff and how incredibly clean the shop was.
Cant wait to get back for round 2 in a couple of weeks !!
If you're looking you will not be disappointed in the staff the value or the cleanliness
This is the cleanest and most professional tattoo studio I have been in. Â There is zero 'touch guy' or 'cool guy' attitude from any of the employees. Â I was lucky enough to select Steve Goodspeed for my work and I am VERY happy with that decision. Â My artwork included some very small lines as well as some very straight lines. Â He nailed it. I was also pleased with his patience. Â He took the time to make sure everything was placed properly before moving forward with the ink. Â I did not feel rushed at all. Â He also gave me some very good advice. Â I am very happy with the studio and with Steve's work. Â I will be back.
Review Source:Great place to go
I got two very lovely piercings done by Tim, & he did such a great job. They were even, clean, & perfect! I was very very happy. Very knowledgable & helpful in making sure I knew how to properly take good care of them. Best piercings I've ever gotten, & best decision in going to Fine tatoo Work!
I highly highly suggest piercings by Tim & Fine Tattoo Work
So...I got a tattoo last nite here at Fine Tattoo Work. I couldn't help but go with the good reviews on here so I decided to check them out. Â As soon as I arrived at the place I got nervous, hands starting to sweat, my stomach kept making funny noises...man o man I thought I was going to pass out! lol.....But as soon as we got greeted I was calm...I had checked their website out and liked Colby's work. Â I was specifically searching for a nice handwriting and his work caught my eyes! I have one tattoo I had done previously by a friend of a friend and was not happy with it and knew that Colby wouldn't let me down. Â So anyhow, my husband and my son were there, but the longer we waited the more my son was getting me nervous again with all the jumping and running around so finally I was able to tell Colby what I wanted and he drew something up for me while we waited. Â Came back to the shop and started the tattoo. Â I was extremely nervous again but as soon as he started I couldn't go back so I went through it trying to breathe in breathe out like in "Lamaze" classes as he told me to do, but there was just some spots that were way too painful for me. Â I hope I wasn't too much of a wimp for him but I'm so happy with the results that the pain was so worth it! Especially because the tattoo meant so much to me and I'm glad Colby was the one to do it for me....Thanks so much!!!!!!!!! p.s if he can put up with my whining again, I will definitely go back and get another one =) So....if you are thinking about getting a tattoo and don't know where to go, well this is the place! good luck
Review Source:Where to start....I walked in this past Sunday afternoon knowing what I wanted in mind and wanted a good artist to make it happen...I wanted to get it done ASAP due to my schedule....and on that Sunday afternoon I was helped by the friendly lady at the entrance (forgot her name sorry) and to a place like the others explain where I didn't feel like I was "cool enough" for a tattoo like other places I've been to made me feel and so I was introduced to Steve G. He was very nice, patient and helpful. He was available the sameday to start and so at the beginning of the week I had two great tattoos that I love! The shop itself was very nice and clean. Thank you FTW and especially Steve...see you in a month for my touch up :)
Review Source:I recently got my first tattoo at FTW by Steve Goodspeed. Â He took the time to research my idea and provide a couple of drawings to help me design my perfect tattoo. Â He was professional, diligent and made efforts to put me at ease knowing this would be a new experience for me. Â It's obvious he takes pride in his trade as proven by the detail and quality of my tattoo - which I love by the way!!! Â In addition, the studio was clean (thank you!!!) and the staff very friendly. Not being the typical tattoo customer (middle-aged corporate female), I wasn't sure what to expect. Â This experience has put tattoo shop stereotypes to rest for me. Â Excellent job, Mr. Lucky!
Review Source:I woke up the day before my 23rd birthday and realized it was time to get that tattoo I have always wanted. Â I had been carrying around a picture of a dove with me for the longest time but I never found an artist I trusted. Â So..I did the smartest thing a gal could do...go on Yelp...(sarcasm intended). Â Fortunately God was looking out for me because I found Fine Tattoo Work. Â I walked in at 1 p.m and was done by 2 p.m. Â J.D was my artist and he was so patient. Â He redid the drawing a couple times until I was 100% satisfied with it. Â He did such a great job that I almost fell asleep during the session. Â His down to earth personality made my first tattooing experience a memorable one. Â Everyone in the shop from the other tattoo artists to the ladies at the desk were extremely friendly. Â
You won't reget coming here!
You know, I'm going to have to agree with Jay with pretty much everything he says. Â This facility is great and Chip is awesome!! Â 3 months of waiting and I finally got in for the start of something beautiful. Â All I had to do was give Chip some ideas of what I wanted and made the magic happen. Â He took his time drawing on my arm what he thought would look good, and then took me over to Lucky to get his opinion. Â The whole session, we were talking, shooting the sh#$.
Like Jay says, everyone in the shop makes you feel welcomed from Michael (who greeted me 3 months ago) to Denise (who was there this time when I went). Â I like the professionalism this place brings. Â I had several questions and emailed them on facebook, and their manager Chantal took the time to reply quickly everytime. Â If you are definitely looking to get work done by a great facility, GO HERE! Â I'm sure all their artists are great, but I was referred to Chip Douglas, and I know him and I will be spending alot of sessions together getting my work done.
I cannot begin to express the satisfaction and exuberance I have for this shop and the TALENTED artists that make their magic on the pasty white canvas of Orange Counties choosiest residents. After a debacle at another shop, I strolled into FTW just looking for some info, still wondering if I had to look like I belonged in a tattoo shop to get some straight dirt or what. For every question there was an answer, an INTELLIGENT and laid back answer, and I felt comfortable right away. I was directed to Chip Douglas and upon opening his book, knew that his designs were on the money for what I wanted. We talked about the elements of my tattoo, things I liked, things I didn't, and when I returned for my first appt. the piece that Chip designed was nothing short of amazing. Over the course of 6-7 appts. Chip and I talked, laughed, chilled, and lamented about  so many different subjects. EVERYONE at this shop made me feel at home and part of the group. I watched several pieces done over the course of my 12 hours in Chips chair, and from the top dog, Lucky Bastard, to the bottom, every piece was beautiful. I won't go to anyone but Chip from now on, but I also wouldn't hesitate to enlist the artistry of any of the ink pushers here at FTW.
The only drawback to having work done at FTW is you'll never be left alone on the street as people constantly approach you to tell you what a sick tattoo you have.
Chip Douglas from Mr. Lucky's Fina Tattoo Work is an extremely talented artist and an overall great guy. His work and attitude speaks for themselves. Anyone out there looking to get something tattoo'd best start looking there. Remember people, this stuff is forever, don't go anywhere else but to see Chip!!!
Review Source:My roommate and I loved this place.(: We were looking for a good, decent priced shop, and everywhere we looked had a weird vibe or had a ridiculously high hourly rate! We found Fine Tattoo Work after Yelping other tattoo shops in the area, and thought we should just check it out and maybe give it a try. Now we're super glad we did!
The shop manager helped us find the perfect artist for what type of tattoos  my roommate and I wanted, and they were all really enthused about helping us out.
My roommate got a Disney tattoo by J.D. and she loves it! It was super clean and well done.
I got a classic sparrow by Steve and I LOVE IT TOO! He definitely made it turn out better than I expected. He is a great tattoo artist! He made it comfortable and relaxing for me by talking to me and my friends.
Thanks guys!! We'll definitely be coming back! :D
I was looking around for an artist to do an arm piece on me, of Pocahontas while doing the "Colors of the wind" scene in charcoal. I wasn't too happy about my main tattoo artists' work starting to go down in quality the more he tattooed, and I was going out to California for a visit, so I said why not.
I called the studio, and the apprentice Buzzy picked up the phone and told me that since I'm in Colorado, I should email the design to them. After an email address mixup, Chantal (the shop manager it seems) emailed me and we got a general price and a date set up for me to come in, which was October 8, at 7 PM with Steve Goodspeed.
I ended up showing up at 6:30 PM (thought traffic would be horrible, but it wasn't too bad) and Steve had my stencil and picture ready to go, which impressed me. Around 7, after resizing and talking about placement, we started.
I was very surprised. Steve had a light hand, and the tattoo was the least painful one I have gotten to date. (And I'm sitting at 11 tattoos now!) Steve was very talkative and nice as he worked, which let me relax and get to talk. During the process, he used a lot of vaseline looking stuff, which my normal artist never did. Maybe that's why it was so much better feeling than my other tattoos.
After we were all done, he warned me about the impending hot towel coming my way; I guess if a hot towel is put over a tattoo, it opens up the pores and lets all the gunk and ink and stuff to come out. It hurt for all about 2 seconds and then we were all done.
$225 for my tattoo was an amazing price for the work done; my artist here in Colorado wanted over $100 more than what Steve charged me.
I will definitely be returning for more work. A great tattoo artist and the beach. What more could a girl ask for?
This shop is BOMB! Â You will be impressed with the quality of work here--This is a very professional, clean shop, with extremely talented and knowledgeable artists. Â You'll be impressed with everyone you meet here. Â Just completed my upper-left arm work from Mr. Â Lucky B-- He is a dedicated artist with an unsurpassed body of work-- check out his work and you'll be as amazed as I was/am-- I get nothing but complements & you will too. Â I'm saving up now for the right arm! Â Btw, the new shop is beautiful! ~KJ
Review Source:I love this shop. I have been going there for a few years.
No attitude here (can't stand shops that give you the "your not cool enough" vibe)
All the artists are top notch.
Chip is the best in my opinion! Nothing but compliments wherever I go on my work he has done for me.
This shop is super professional yet relaxed at the same time.
Clean and organized. No lurkers is always a bonus in my book as well.
Fair prices as well too!
if you want top notch work head on over!
I've gotten 3 tattoos from this awesome establishment so far, and once I can afford it, will be completing a half sleeve in the near future. JD has done most of them and I can say he is definitely my go to artist.
When I got my first tattoo, I had a rough idea of what I wanted and brought in some pictures of general shapes and stuff. JD gave me his opinion on what he thought would look best and it turned into an awesome traditional flash-art type piece.
I went to get a quote on my ribs and had a pretty specific type of lettering I wanted. I made the mistake of trying to schedule an appointment and then email a picture of the font. When I went in to get it done, JD never got the picture and had something different than what I was thinking. Brought the picture in myself and a few days later, his drawing was even better than I thought it would be. I was a complete pain in the ass for him and he still talked me through it and did a great job.
Aside from their creative skills, I also have to applaud them for the quality of their work. After over a year and a half now of pretty constant sun, none of the colors or lines have faded or lost definition, even colors like yellow and orange, which I've never seen last as well as these have. Everything looks just as good as when it first healed. Prices are incredibly reasonable for the quality of work and attention that is paid to ever customer. My only recommendations would be to bring in any pictures yourself, bring cash, and hear out the artists' opinions, they usually seem to have better ideas than you. The shop is immaculate, people are friendly, couldn't ask for a better experience.
I had a tattoo on my foot done previously by a "tattoo artist" that did not do such a great job. I went in yesterday and had it re-touched by Colby, he did such a great job making my tattoo look like what I initially wanted it to look like. He paid so much attention to detail and went above what we had originally agreed to do. I used to like my tattoo, but now I love it! Needless to say my husband and I will definitely be going back for more tattoos. Highly recommended.
Review Source:First of all, Jamie who works up front is soooo nice and helpful!!! They got me in the same day I called and the prices were so reasonable. Â My artist was Steve Goodspeed and he was awesome. Â Even though my tattoo was pretty simple, he took his time drawing and showing me a lot of options. Â I would recommend that everyone go here :)
Review Source:Went in last Tuesday to get a consultation about my tattoo. I ended up speaking with Colby Chesterfield about it. He really liked my concept and made some minor suggestions to make the lettering on it a tad larger for legibility and whatnot, since the design wouldn't be changed much he quoted me a very reasonable price saying it would take about 2 hours to do. Feeling motivated, I made my appointment for the following Tuesday at 4 to have it done.
I came in with my friend and was greeted by the same secretary, who remembered my name (sadly I never caught hers) and was then immediately greeted by Colby. He went in back and brought out his sketch up of my tattoo, and it took my concept to a whole 'notha level. Loving it, I said let's do it and he brought me back. He lined up the rub on tracing on my back and was concerned enough to actually get some second opinions of other artists about the placement and alignment (I have a back thing that makes my spine curve slightly to the left) which made me feel really good. Then he had me lie on the table and got to work.
Being my first tattoo and a fairly large piece he was diligent about making sure I was comfortable. He told me that due to the complexity of the piece that I might want to come back in for a second session to do the shading, but said "we'll see how it goes, it's all up to you."
He finished the line work in under two hours and then let me take a break. He asked how I felt and I said, lets get some of the shading done and see how I feel. After figuring I've got the thing over half done and didn't feel like coming back for a second session because I'm impatient, I said screw it, let's finish the whole thing.
In all the tattoo took about 5 and a half hours to do, over twice as long as we initially guessed. He complimented me on my resolve for being able to handle that long of a session, but I figured that I wasn't that tolerant of pain, I just didn't say anything. lol. I am more than pleased with the artwork and give Colby props for doing an amazing job. The kicker is that despite the work taking twice as long, he actually priced it right in the middle of the range he initially gave the Tuesday prior. Definitely a man of his word. I gave him a good tip to show my thanks and will definitely go back to that shop with any touch ups or ideas I have in the future.
I was contacted by a rep from the shop immediately after posting my review. She assured me that it is not FTW's business practice to override any customer's requests (not that I thought that in the first place) and that the artist (Goodspeed) was not aware that it bothered me so much.
Don't get me wrong: I've seen a lot of great work come out of this shop. And the prices are very competetive. Just don't ask for white ink.
Let me preface this review by saying... I don't have any tattoos... BUT I went here with someone else for their first tattoo and they took good care of her and were very nice to all her guests. IF this is your first time and you're planning on bringing a whole entourage of people with you, note, only ONE person is allowed to be behind the "counter" watching at a time. But if you want to chill on the couch and wait, feel free. They have a ton of books with drawings and their work for you to look through, or you can bring in a photo of their own and they'll make it work!
They give you directions for after care, overall very nice and just want everyone to feel comfortable and have a good experience. They didn't pressure my friend, they want their work to be perfect! They take credit cards but Bring Cash! They take appointments and because it takes a while... make one.
Another important factor, I watched everyone clean every single piece of equipment, and everything that they touch was wiped and covered clean.
I got my first tattoo here. I decided to check this place out based on all the positive yelp reviews I saw. I wanted to get a tattoo in celebration of my golden birthday, and I chose to have my last name in Chinese put on the nape of my neck. The shop itself is huge! I think they advertised their shop as being one of the largest tattoo/piercing parlors around? Anyway, it's very spacious and super clean. I brought in a picture of my last name written on a tile, as well as a copy that my grandfather wrote out for me. There was a little discrepancy between the two characters and of course I wanted to make sure that it was correct! Colby was just as adamant about making sure it was right and was patient enough to wait until we could get verification. The sketch that he drew from both pictures was amazing! He was able to combine the calligraphy from the tile with the accuracy on the copy, and actually he was even the one to bring up the discrepancy in the first place. The entire process went very smoothly despite my huge fear of the pain from getting a tattoo; it wasn't so bad! Definitely bearable and Colby was again patient and very cool about it. I loved the end result and my friend ended up going back to him to get a few more tattoos! The price was more than reasonable enough considering everything I got. I love my tattoo and it healed in a little over a week, no joke. Needless to say, I had a fantastic experience here!
Review Source:i heard about this place from a friend of mines whose been coming here for a good while. I decided to come in and check it out. The place was nice and clean and pretty friendly. The artists does amazing work. I booked an appointment and they said "lucky" was booked for the next 4 months, but somehow they managed to squeeze me in within a week =) i was ecstatic!! I gave him a brief detail of what i want to get on my rib cage and he actually gave me better ideas. Like i wanted a hummingbird with a Japanese theme, but he said it was better to go with a different type of bird that was more traditionally found in japan. I like how they help you with the details of your tattoo design so it can all connects together rather then just tattooing stuff that didn't make sense. SO far the price range is pretty decent, nothing to complain about. i have about 4 more sessions to go to, and already my piece is looking fabulous!! more then i expected it to be. =) I'm so excited to see the finish work!
Review Source:I've gotten tattoos from J.D. and Chip, and I love them both with all my heart. They might disagree with what you want, but they're looking out for you, not trying to bring you down. They refuse to tattoo hands, faces, and necks for the same reason.
I've been going here for three years now and I don't regret a single piece. I even used to have Angela stretch my ears before she left for nursing school or some other medical related line of practice. The entire place is totally clean, they're quick, they're professional, and they're about as awesome as it gets. They even have a private photo area to immortalize your tattoo in picture as well as on your flesh.
They usually have plenty of time for walk-ins, despite having a pretty full appointment book. They're wonderful guys, and I only wish that other Yelpers get the honor and pleasure of their handiwork.
Ben did my first tattoo at FTW two years ago...I had called several local shops to describe my design and a couple of them told me it was too difficult (it involved several circles which apparently are hard to tattoo perfectly on an uneven surface.) Â Ben said no problem and went ahead to do a fabulous job on my tattoo. Â Ben's no longer with FTW but Chip is~
Chip did my sister's first tattoo and my next one and we love his work. Â He's a real sweetheart who'll set you at ease (if you're looking for that) and does solid, crisp linework. Â (His portfolio is filled with gorgeous color and B/W work but so far my designs have been very simple.)
Both Ben and Chip were super patient with placement to make sure my designs were EXACTLY right before inking them in. Â I appreciate not feeling rushed since it's permanent :)
FTW is super clean and has a mellow vibe. Â I'm lucky to live so close but if I didn't they would be worth a drive. Â Highly recommended.
Got my first tat here and I was just a walk in one night. I was going from place to place getting quotes, and for three little hearts on each wrist, they had the best price. They look great even after almost 2 yrs and the color is still pretty bright. I did seem to get a little "you dont know what you want" attitude, but all in all, it was a good experience. The place is very clean and comfortable, (reminded me of a dr office kinda clean) great for a semi germ-a-phobe like me. Will def go back if I ever get another one.
Review Source:I've gotten two tattoos here by Lucky.
The place is professional, the whole staff is friendly and the place is very clean. Very important things to consider when you're getting a tattoo! :)
I've been very happy with my tattoos. Everything I've seen by them is quality work also. Highly recommend them.
VERY big ol' shop that u can't miss.
People their are nice, but not great pretenders.. it was a Thursday i just got paid..looked over the reviews on yelp of this place and figure what the hell not i just got out of class and this sound like a very interesting place n i could of easily checked out Goodfellas (got my first tattoo here) but I wanted an azn person to do my last name in chinese character. Went thru Yelp & their website found out in the tattoo shop the guy was korean. When we got there I guess it was my fault i didnt bring a picture of the tattoo i wanted. But a little fault was them saying they "didnt have internet connections" or because "they have slow connections" whatever it was..out of nowhere the Korean guy was easily logged on to their main page and googled "Lee", i was a little pissed at first that they said they didnt have internet connection BUT after they finished my tattoo for a $20 deposit (because i wasnt sure if i wanted to get it done that same date or the next day..in the end i ended up tatting the same date) Tattoo came out VERY nice, had it on my upper left shoulder, three inches for $90 in chinese brush strokes (in my homedown they were going to charge me 90 bucks for one inch and a half -_-). My friend even had a crush on the artist.
Definitely recommend others to bring a picture of whatever you want to be tatt'd just in case so you WON'T have to go threw what I did. Fast service and you might want to get an appointment..if your lucky like me appointment was cancelled last minute and he was able to tatt me that day.
I got my first tattoo here back in May of 2005 from Ben Fitzgerald. My wife found this shop for us to get tattooed. At the time she lived nearby and basically just walked in, talked to Ben and set up our appointments.
Ben did a great job, his work is really clean and crisp. I would go back to this shop if I could afford to get tattooed on a more regular basis!!!
As far as atmosphere and friendliness... uhh it's a tattoo shop, I could care less as long as the Tattoo work is good... but yes it is a very clean well lighted shop and the people are oh so friendly. :Thumbs Up:
Clean and big shop, friendly service, chill atmosphere. Â
I looked through many reviews of other tattoo shops in the area, and decided to go in one day after making a phone call for prices and the sorts.
There was a very friendly girl in the front, that made you feel comfortable and welcomed. Â JD was the one that was gonna be doing my tattoo so I gave him some images of the flower I wanted, and he told me to come back a few days later after he made some sketches.
Went back, saw the sketches, decided I wanted something a little different than what he had drawn out and JD told me that it may not hold up as well(I'm glad he was honest about that) but he'll do it the way I wanted, if that was really what I wanted. Â
He was very professional, fast, and somehow it was not that painful(though the rib area is supposed to be one of the most painful). Â
I saw a sign that said "No neck, face, or hands tattoos" near JD's work area and asked about it and was told that he refused to do those tattoos on younger kids because they may regret it in the future, i.e. while trying to get a job and so forth. Â I'm sure there are a lot of kids grateful for that. Â I liked that he was not all about just tatting up anyone for money. Â
So my tattoo was done faster than I thought, and I don't know about other people, but I personally liked it that JD wasn't blabbering away while working(some people may like the artist talking a lot *shrug*). Â I think I might have felt uneasy if he was talking and not concentrating on my piece. Â Most of the talking that happened was about him telling me that I could come in anytime for a touch-up, free of charge, if the shading(the way I had requested it) wasn't dark enough, because he would rather do it too light and darken it later than make it too dark and not be able to lighten it up.
When I went to pay for the work, the price was less than he had originally quoted! Â Can't go wrong there! Â I am very pleased with my piece and haven't needed to return for a touch-up but plan on going back for more when I can decide on what I want next.
Great Place! All the staff is really helpful and totally chill. JD did my tattoo and he was really professional and did an excellent job. My best friend also had her first tattoo done by him and touched hers up right after mine. (with different needles and everything, so no worries!)
Very sanitary, which is necessary from the moment I walk into any tattoo parlor. Little pricey but you're paying for personalized art that lasts a lifetime. And they're always willing to do touchups. Awesome crew
After months of researching tattoo shops in the Orange County area, I stumbled upon a huge article about Fine Tattoo Work in a Japanese tattoo magazine. I didn't want to base my decision on which shop seemed more famous, but I wanted a reasonable price and good vibes from the people that work there. I shopped around (over 5) different shops in my area, seeing what price they would give me for the tattoo that I wanted. I also wanted to see how I felt about the people because if I'm going to get a permanent mark on my body then I want to feel comfortable. Every tattoo shop that I went to was seriously trying to rip me off. I may look like an innocent little Asian girl, but I'm not an idiot.
Fine Tattoo Work was our last stop and I had high hopes. Right when we walked in, we were greeted by everyone! Their shop is HUGE and so clean. The people were very approachable and gave an honest/fair price with great opinions & ideas on my tattoo idea. I had nothing left to think about. I did it right then and there. It turned out great. JD St. Berdoo was my tattoo artist and he did a great job. He talked me through everything and really made an effort to calm my nerves. I would defintely recommend him.
After seeing what a good job they did, my boyfriend decided to get a half sleeve done by Chip Douglas. Again, the price was reasonable and the service was awesome. His tattoo looks bad ass. Chip really has a great talent.
If you're thinking of getting a tattoo and are in the Orange County, give them a call!
