I cannot say enough nice things about this business, both as professionals and as artists. I walk in as a clean canvas with a ton of questions on how this process works, after reviewing the portfolio they had I figured these guys were up to the task. Forrester talks to me, we schedule an appointment, and I called daily up to the date and minute of our appt. to ask newbie questions about the process, time, design, etc. Each time someone answered the phone and took time to respond without making me feel like i was a pain in the a** (which I am sure I was).

The day is here, excited, adrenaline, all the fun feelings. I lay down and now sh*t gets real... back to annoying multi question asking customer that I was. Forrester cracked jokes, kept up the convo, gave me breaks, and when the process was done and I thanked him his response was "I appreciate your compliments, I like that I can do what I enjoy and I know doing this art is something on your body for the rest of your life I take it very serious."

Furthermore, when the ink seeped out fo my skin I freaked out (natural part of the process but again I am the new guy). I called Golden Owl late after they were open and again early in the morning. They were not open obviously and I did not leave a message. What do I get 30 min before their store hours? A call from them saying "Hey we had two missed calls from this number, everything alright?" If this is not great customer service, I don't know what is. I came into the shop to ask any comments on the tattoo care and Donavan was happy to respond with everything I asked.

If by chance you are a reviewer that only reads the last line of a post, here it is...

"Forrester is a great artist, Donavan and his team are just great at what they do."

Yelp needs to make a review with a higher star rating, these guys deserve a 10.

I got my first tattoo at the Golden Owl by Donavan and I've been hooked ever since. He is a really nice and fair dude, not to mention talented, like insanely talented. He has become kind of a hero of mine because I respect his work and business ethics so much and I'm so proud to tell people where and who I got tattooed by and I recommend him to everyone who comments on my tattoo. I'll be getting a huge piece on my back next and I'm 100% confident that he's gonna kill it.

    Fucking love this place!

Donavan Kinyon is the MAN when it comes to art and ink. His creativity and keen eye helps you transform your idea into something magical. Donavan has done five of my pieces and we're in the works for another, large, piece. He is open to tweaking an idea and always has suggestions for color. Let him go crazy and be creative. Great vibe in the shop, good music, low-key and lots of fun. In addition to his beautiful work with skin, his shop is full of his art (for sale too!). My sister, her boyfriend, mom and friends all rave about the work he's done on them. He's also very reasonably priced for the creative, beautiful work he does. Recommend swinging by and getting your name on the books ASAP as he's a popular and busy man.

Im not going to lie, I've had work done at other shops in Napa. Then I met Donavan and paid him to cover them all up. I've got over 30hours of work from Donavan and couldn't be happier. I get a lot of compliments from people on the quality of his work and his use of colors. I will never go anywhere else to get work done.

I got my 6th tattoo with Donavan. He books up fast, so it took a few months for my appointment to come around, but he is worth the wait. He is very easy to work with, and you can give him an idea, & he will turn it into a work of art. I will definitely go back when I get another tattoo someday. :-)
He does accept credit cards, but only if the cost is over a certain amount...I think $300? And you can also meet him at Chef's Market during the summer months, he's always at a booth with samples of his work there.

So finally decided to get a tattoo - and of course did it on St. Patricks Day! I was extremely nervous and Donavan was great!  He went over the tattoo with me more than once and made sure I was set in my mind.  (Your first tattoo is a big deal!!) After he did the freehand artwork on my arm - it looked great!  I was ready!
So he did all the outlining and we scheduled my second appt.  The second appointment with Donavan last Thursday went great! He finished all the shading that needed to be done.  Of course I walked out very happy and satisfied!!  Can't wait for the third appointment - With all the color!!!

**I first met Donavan in 2011 at the old shop he use to be in.   He was the nicest guy in there.  They only tattoo artist who was willing to take my g/f in as a walk in client.  Way too much testosterone in that shop for me..I felt very out of place.  I was so stoked that we ended up with Donavan because he is so laid back and mad us both feel very comfortable.

Then we found out Donavan moved into his own tattoo shop - we couldn't wait to see it.  Now that I have been in twice for work I can say that his shop ROCKS!  The ambience of his shop is exactly what I was hoping for, and you never feel uncomfortable there.   Donavan is a very talented artists and I would highly recommend checking him out over any shop in Napa.  He books fast but def worth the wait!!!

Finding the Golden Owl Tattoo and Gallery with artist Donavan Kinyon was a dimension of lucky fate.  Earlier in the day my wife and I were talking about my fading wedding ring tattoo getting a tune-up.  By chance we walked into the alley behind Nannette's Chocolate shop, one our favorite world class chocolatiers, in down town Napa, and there Donavan was in an intense pose working on a client.  The art was a brilliantly drawn dandelion.  Also by chance it was the right time for he and the client to take a break.  I stepped in for a chat and left with a date.  When I returned a few weeks later, the experience was better than expected.  Donavan used his color pallet and skills to enhance the drama of this rings design reinvigorating it's brilliance.  I didn't get the tears of joy as from the initial tattoo of my wedding ring, but I did get a very satisfied and joyful response from my wife.
I'll be returning for further touch-up on other tatts and to develop a new design.  Donavan has a wonderful pallet of colors, fine choice of colors in his work, and a deft hand on the machine.  The room is simple, clean and unburdened by multiple artists.  This makes a great environment to break out of the every day and chill to some jams and get positively memorable service.  He is the Down Town Napa Tattoo Shop!

I'm so excited to see Donavan Kinyon in his own shop. He has done two of my tattoos, five of my boyfriend's, three of my sister's and various others for my parents and my friends. He is an incredibly talented artist with a unique and distinct style that becomes apparent upon viewing his portfolio. On top of his spectacular work, he brings an infectious enthusiasm for each individual piece. He will listen closely to what you want, and produce something more beautiful than you could have ever imagined. His tattoos are vivid and striking, and he will take the time to get all the details perfect.
His new shop is classy and welcoming, featuring many of his own paintings. There's no elitist attitude, no intimidation, just the friendliest and most professional tattoo artist you'll ever come across. I'll be a lifetime client of Donovan's. It's an honor to carry his art around with me each day.
