I went here yesterday after reading the reviews of several tattoo places.  Jason, Adam and Carl were there and they greeted me when I entered. I spoke with Jason, the piercer,  about the issues I'd had a few years ago with nipple rings (from another shop) and showed him pictures. He was very nice and listened to my situation. I decided to go ahead and get them re-pierced.

There were already two other girls in the shop looking at tattoo designs. While I was filling out my paperwork, a tiny Asian girl wanted really small cursive lettering on her wrist. They gently advised her that if the tattoo was too small, in a few years it would be really blurry and hard to read. She made some sarcastic remark about just getting it lasered off in a few years if she didn't like it...they kind of laughed it off and said that sounded like a lot of pain. She held up several sizes against her wrist in the mirror, but I'm not sure which one she ended up choosing. I am hoping to get a tattoo soon, and I appreciate that they presented her with the facts, but didn't force a decision on her.

Anyway, back to me: The piercing area is behind a little accordion room divider, so it is private. Jason was really nice, and it went much quicker than I remember it going the first time. I was in and out before the other guy  finished prepping his area for the cursive tattoo.

I'm planning to get a tattoo in the next few months, and I definitely plan to return here. The shop seemed clean, they were nice (although it's always a bit intimidating walking into a tattoo shop), and I feel like they would really listen to what I want and help me design the perfect tattoo.

Bonus: They accept credit/debit. Some shops don't.

Oh my god! This place is so great. When they say homely environment man do they mean it. The atmosphere in that place was phenomenal. Great staff, great knowledge of tattooing. All together a great bunch or professionals. Highly recommend this shop to everyone.

All of the artists here are fabulous.  Charlie and Sandy give the shop a friendly, "homey" feel--but without sacrificing professionalism.

Adam J.'s specialty is Irezumi and Irezumi-style tattoos.  The man is strictly incredible.  He did a beautiful reworking of my existing Irezumi piece (which, imo, was already quite nice) so it would be truer to Irezumi and flow nicely into add-on Irezumi pieces.

Adam is also very knowledgeable about Irezumi sub-styles; I was quite impressed.  I wanted my add-on piece to be true to Irezumi--and Adam took what I wanted to the next level.

I am so pleased with Adam's work and plan on having Adam do all of my future Irezumi work. :-)

Perfect experience from the get go! Walked right in and my piercer prepped the utensils and called me to the back. This shop is super friendly and affordable. I would definitely come back!!!

I am a repeat customer and send my friends their way.
Fair pricing. Great artists. Clean. Friendly and laid back. Can usually take walk-ins. (which is great for those of us who decide to get a tattoo on a whim :))

Couldn't be happier about my experience here. Had been shopping around thinking of getting 2 small tattoos.  Found this place thru yelp, decided to give them a call. Don't remember the name of who I spoke with on the phone, but he was very informative and very nice. I was sold.  Came in the next day, and got tattooed by Jimmy.  He was wonderful.  He took his time with me making sure I was completely satisfied with the sketch/stencils and did not make me feel like I was being a pain.  My tattoos were not elaborate or artsy but never once did I feel like I wasn't an important customer. Everyone was so friendly and I am thrilled with my new tatts.  I highly recommend this shop and will def be returning if I chose to get more

Awesome shop. Very fun, friendly staff who are honest and upfront about the tattoos and pricing. I came in yesterday as a walk in with my own artwork. It's a relatively small tattoo on the left side of my chest, but it's stupid-detailed with a lot of line work. It's a memorial for my brother who very recently passed, so a lot of emotions were riding on this being perfect. Jimmy knocked it out of the park. He was completely professional, explained how he was going to approach the design to ensure it came out right.

Perfectly priced, quality work. I'm still in awe of the final result.

I had a tattoo done this week on my left arm. Jason did a great job while finishing it quickly. They lived up to their ratings and previous reviews. The owners are very friendly which makes you feel comfortable being there. Their prices are very reasonable. I would definitely go back.

went back recently for #2 and #3 tattoos.  (Jason did my first one last year and i loved him and the tat is awesome) this go round Carl was awesome and they are good people.  Carl even was cool with designing on the spot when i didn't quite have the idea perfected.  awesome input on size, placement, font, etc. all what i needed.  definitely recommend.

I am a tattoo shop whore but I've had three tattoos done here. My most recent was done by Jason.  My brother and I decided to get "matching" tattoos -- not in an incest sort of way but definitely grossly cute.  We gave them our idea and they perfected it.  Jason had a brilliant personality; I was never bored.  I am due for another tattoo and I will go back to him.

Okay, I've been slacking on the review front.  I went back to Great Southern Tattoo again for another anniversary tattoo (yup, it's becoming an annual event).  I thought I would be going in and doing a consult but was completely surprised when Jason was available to do the tatt right on the spot.

Carl was off that day, but I certainly was not disappointed with Jason's work either.  I got the beginnings of a back tattoo that I will have added to each year.  This particular tattoo required a lot of fine line and color work that had to be precise.  Jason's steady hand, eye for detail, and artistic abilities made this tattoo just a nice as the one that Carl did for me the year prior.

I had one of my friends with me because she wanted to see the shop and meet some of the people.  She couldn't believe how friendly everyone was and how well everyone interacts.  She was very impressed by the work leaving the shop too.

Jason also does the piercings for the shop.  While he was working on me someone came in to be pierced.  He asked them to come back even though I told him it was okay to go do it since I knew that a piercing would not take long at all.  He explained that my tattoo was a lot of fine line work and other details and he was not at a stopping point unless I was feeling unwell (which I was not).  I was pleased to know that he would not stop unless necessary and potentially risk my permanent tattoo just to do the piercing.  I left with an amazing tattoo yet again!

Now I have a dilemma, considering I will be adding onto both the tattoo Carl did for me before (which still looks fantastic over a year later with no touch up work!) and the new back tattoo that will be added onto as well, who will I get to do the next one? Maybe I can convince Carl and Jason to do a combo custom piece across my back? BTW, the piercing came back and my friend has since been back for some work by Carl for herself.  More to come as I continue to go here for more artwork by this talented group of artists!

This place is great. Friendly, talented service, good prices. Awesome that they openly take walk-in's. Highly recommended. Doug did magic to a piece in need of some heavy TLC.

I came in for a piercing today. I've never had anything pierced besides my lobes (which was when I was a kid), so I don't know what to expect from a professional piercer. Walked in, signed forms, scanned my ID, sat me down, cleaned my ear, told me to take a deep breath, and after a few pinches, it was done! Quick, efficient, and painless. It was $40 and pierced with a 16g hoop

I had my first tattoo done here and I really like them.  I had Jason as my tattoo artist and he was very good.  The owners are fun to be around and kept making me laugh, even though I am shy introvert.  My tattoo looks amazing and when people tell you they are addictive, they are... I'm already thinking about what to do next.
    Thanks.

I have been meaning to write this review for months but kept getting sidetracked.

I went here in September for a very special tattoo. I had looked all around but kept coming back to Great Southern because of it's location and prices. When I initally went in, I had a general idea of what I wanted but hadn't gotten the specifics down---that's where Doug came in. He was amazing and super friendly! He gave me helpful suggestions for my tat and even custom designed a font for me. He was patient with my squirming, engaging in distracting conversation (this helped me not think about the buzzing needle digging in my leg haha), and was an overall nice guy.

I've since referred two friends to go see him and have plans to return this year for another tattoo.

If you're looking for a clean, informative, friendly, laid back establish to get your first (or any number!) tattoo this is the place. Appointments are easy to make and the staff is really there to help. They take walk-ins and are experienced so don't be afraid to ask questions.

Ask for Doug if you want some laughs while getting your ink!

I was exceedingly pleased with the work at Great Southern. The staff is fun and informal while being exceedingly professional with the tools of their trade.
I went in for a consultation prior to the actual tattoo and got good advice, was not rushed in any way and all in all very comfortable with the place.
I went back for the tattoo on a Saturday and had to wait some time until I could be seen, which I had no issue with.
Carl did a fantastic job and was reassuring and honnest in talking with my husband and I about the tattoos and I would highly recommend him, or any of the other artists there - though I can specifically vouch for Carl.
    Thank you guys!

I never write these things but had such a great experience so here you go...

I walked in and had Carl. He did a written tattoo on my hand.  This is my second one and he was really patient and friendly.  I changed my mind about 5-6 times and he was cool with every change.  He even offered free touch ups since it will likely fade because it's on my hand.  He gave me his professional opinion on font sizes and what will last and look good in a few years and not just today.  I will probably go back to him for my 3rd.

My friend, who doesn't Yelp, was also a walk-in but done by Jason.  He had a larger tattoo done of a scull on his arm.  Jason was also friendly.  He listened to suggestions and even sketched his ideas for my friend while I was having my tattoo done.  He was really cool to talk to.  I'm considering him for something on me... maybe a piercing or another tat.

The vibe of the shop is chill with friendly conversation, TV on... casual.  I've been to other shops for other work and piecings and had a more judgmental or unapproachable attitude from employees.... sometimes as if I'm beneath them.  Pricing is also fair but not cheap by any means.

I have already recommended this shop to friends.

Went here for a nose piercing based on other yelp reviews and I could not have been happier with the place. Clean, professional, friendly and with very good results! As a small woman who is often mistaken for a much younger teenager I did not feel intimidated or uncomfortable at all with the heavily tattooed employees, the owner was there telling stories about his daughter, which was very endearing. My piercer was meticulous and careful not to cause me more pain than necessary. It was a little pricey-$50 for a little, fairly simple piercing, but I was happy to pay for the pleasant and professional atmosphere. Will be going here again if I ever want anything else done!

I came here for my second tattoo, first at this shop.  They were very friendly and Doug did a great job!  I am really pleased with the results!  Doug heard me commenting to my friend about what I wanted (from across the store) and brought out several books with the style I like and then he drew me a custom piece based on my ideas.  I am also kind of a wuss with pain, and everyone was so nice to me and brought me some soda to help me get through.

My friend also got a tattoo at the same time. Jason helped her draw what she was envisioning and they got it all done within an hour - it was really well done with script and a flower.  There was a lot of traffic in the store and everyone was in an out quickly but with great work done.  I felt the pricing was fair and all of the other people getting tattoos there seemed really happy with their results.

I know I will go back next time I want another tattoo!

I've been wanting to get my nipples pierced for quite a while.  This is my first major body piercing experience other than multiple ear piercings as a kid.   After reading the Yelp reviews and checking out their site, I decided to give GSTC a try.

The person I spoke with when I called to inquire about pricing, appointments, availability, etc. was very nice and happy to help.  The piercing artist working that day, Adam stuck around late to accommodate me.  He was really friendly and welcoming.  He made me feel very comfortable about the whole experience.

The pricing seemed reasonable to me ($50 for one nipple or $80 for both).  The studio was very bright and clean. It's also pretty easy to find.

In addition to my piercing plans, I also have several tattoo ideas I want to explore.  I will definitely be heading back to GSTC to have the work done!

Been here a couple times for my naval piercing.  These folks are as friendly as the other YELPers say.  I'm a bit of a conservative girl (and you can see just by looking at me that I don't belong at a tattoo parlor) but everyone was super nice and accepting.  I loved that.

I have been in twice to get piercings. The piercer is not only very friendly but pretty darn cute! Everyone is very friendly and willing to help out and answer any questions you may have. My new nose piercing actually popped out and I ran up there and the piercer was able to help me get it back in. My brother got a tattoo from them that covers his entire back. He has won several awards and been in a few magazines. My mother also went to Great Southern and got her tattoo. Service is awesome. Their cleanliness is impeccable. The staff knows what they are talking about when they answer any questions you may have. Highly recommended!!

Sandy and Charley, the owners, are friendly and make sure that everyone feels welcome in their shop,  Their artists are skilled and very experienced in multiple tattoo styles from old school, to script, to tribal.

I spent a good amount of time in their shop hanging out and they were very busy.  Everyone got great service, people were delighted with their tattoo's, and they really care about getting the right tattoo for you.  If it's going to be too small or not look right, they'll tell you.

Sean worked on my Haida tribal bear shoulder piece and I could not be happier with Sean skills with his swash drive and Sandy drew a small Maori piece to tie Sean's work into my shoulder piece.  They saw my vision and helped me realize the look I wanted.

There are no tattoo snobs in this shop.  Nobody walking around looking to do a $2,000 back piece like in Seattle.  They're pricing was more than reasonable.  They were inking everyone coming in the door.  Whatever you want.  People were coming in with their friends and getting a tattoo.  Several  got tattoos together.

Charley even told me to just come on by anytime - you don't have to be getting a tattoo to be there.  You feel like you've known them for years and when you are getting a tattoo in a spot with a lot of sensitive nerves, it's nice to fell like you're with friends.  You are.

Across the board, they are skilled, creative, and fun.  I've been tattoo'd by some prominent artists and will tell you, I will be back for more tattoos at Grat Southern!

Go to Jason. The man knows his business and knows how to small talk. I've gotten two tattoos from Jason and he's made both of those experiences very relaxing. The first tattoo he did was an ear of corn with my husband's name across it inside a banner. Jason didn't give me grief for wanting to have someones name on my body, I was impressed with that. The second tattoo was a cover up of a tattoo on my wrist of lettering that had faded (I didn't get that tattoo at Great Southern). I decided to have the whole lettering covered up instead of retouching the ink. Jason was very supportive on the ideas I had and gave some of his own ideas as well. Jason was also very straight forward about what we could do as far as covering up the lettering. Jason has a great mind for the work he does and he is perfect in his industry.

As for the entire business...I love everyone there. Everyone is very friendly and the owners are a riot! The place is very clean and sanitary. The tattooing space is open but there is a little enclosed area for piercings. Great Southern has a wide variety of flash art for those who just want to choose something off the wall, but I'd say take advantage of the artist's talents.

Great Southern is my favorite place to get a tattoo. Over-all they have great customer service and they deliver the best!

I think my next tattoo with Jason will be a portrait.
