I cannot say enough great things about Mission Tattoo and the owner Tomac! This is easily the best place in Santa Barbara.
I went here after I had visited both Golden Eagle and Energy downtown for a cover up tattoo on my arm. I was not very impressed with their suggestions and lack of interest in taking on my challenging tattoo wishes. I was pretty much told my traditional tattoo was impossible to cover successfully or was told to add some really questionable additions to the piece. Feeling defeated, I walked in sort of randomly to Mission Tattoo one evening and Tomac was immediately helpful and enthusiastic about doing the work. I knew right away he was the artist for me. Not only is he exceptionally talented at what he does, but he makes the entire experience of getting tattooed enlightening. He understands color and form and he has great intuition of what works well and what doesn't. He is patient and will answer any questions you have and is never in a rush to get you out the door. I was amazed at the time he was willing to spend planning out my tattoo and listening to what I really wanted.
From the first session I had, I was treated with such care and respect. Just as we started, Daniel came in and burned sage. I was stoked! These guys all have great energy which was exactly what I looking for. All four of my sessions were a really healing experience for me- which was especially important because I was covering a tattoo that I had had for years and one that gave me a whole lot of grief and mental anguish. Tomac makes great conversation that's more than the normal "tattooist"- he made me crack up as well as learn a few things about life.
The shop is in a really nice location just on the corner of Chapala and Mission. They always have really cool grooves playing and the place is decorated pleasantly with original artwork and everything is super clean. I've seen some of the other artwork done by Danny and Alan, and they are great too. These guys can do any style. All very professional. No one has any attitudes and they make you feel right at home.
The final result is nothing short of incredible. Tomac was able to cover up the tattoo amazingly well and I LOVE my new tattoo. It's a beautifully saturated traditional yellow rose with branches and leaves and a gorgeous blue bow and ribbon.
I have many many tattoos and this by far was the best experience I have ever had. He literally changed my life. Tomac will always get my business for any future work. Go there, you will not regret it!
Tomac does WONDERFUL work. Danny does wonderful work. I have gone in here for four of my pieces. Â I have not been tattooed by Alan...yet. But I am a fan of the shop, the employees and the location. Upstairs on Mission and Chapala with a bright studio filled with the artist's own artwork. Music is always playing, the artists and apprentices are super friendly and fun, and the work is high quality.
Review Source:Just went in for my fourth tattoo and this has by far been my best experience in any shop. I wanted a coverup of a old tattoo on my right arm that my first artist had messed up. Alan Murray took my idea and make it better then I could have hoped. He is a wonderfully skilled artist and I know I will be back again and again.

The other artist Alan Murray is the most talented artist ever in my eyes!! His level of commitment is nothing short of amazing! He will work with you until the design is perfect, its incredible how he can exicute your vision better than you could have imagined. Â I should also mention that I am a super difficult client, his patience and dedication continues to amaze me.

Tomac is awesome!!! I got my 4th tat here while my 2 friends from SB Â got their 1st. Â We all loved his work. Â We were referred here by a friend that has gotten multiple ink jobs done by Tomac. Â I will hands-down drive the 2 hours to SB from OC just so Tomac can ink me up some more. Â He's that worth it! Â He definitely has artistic talent and his shop is super clean and chill.
Review Source:Wow. I just got my 2nd tattoo by Tomac Henson, the owner, and all I can say is Wow. He is amazing, He drew both my tattoos by hand and they are amazing. (See photos). Its a SUPER clean and beautiful studio. He takes cleanliness and sterile environment very seriously which is always great :) He is friendly and so is his staff. I won't go anywhere else.
