So first off my review Is kind of late because this happened almost a year ago.
Also I have not gotten a tattoo from there and this will explain why.
So me and my sister were looking for a good tattoo shop locally. She was getting a leg piece and I was getting a guitar with the strings spelling my husbands name.
I guess a friend suggested this shop to my sister (she is Caucasian and friends with the tattoo artists) well she didn't bother to tell the tattoo artist that I guess because it took us an hour to get recognized. We were standing there and had even gone up to the desk but the receptionist was like hurr durrrrr...
Well finally a Hispanic guy comes up to us to talk about getting our tattoos. My sister goes into detail an the guy starts. I'm not gonna lie. He did a very good job especially since he mostly free handed it BUT the lack of customer service and the fact there were other people getting served first when they came in after us! I will never get a tattoo from there ever. If you want my buisness try harder. It was like they were ignoring us on purpose. The only thig that kept me there was the cute pooch but I still won't go back or bring my husband cuz he's allergic(oh well). Oh and tell your loud, underage, skater friends to get out cuz last time I checked, a tattoo shop is still a buisness.
Needless to say I will be getting my tattoo done at a profesional tattoo shop.
Thank you. My rant is over now.
The owner (Matthew) there is extremely friendly, down-to-earth, and knows his stuff. I've gotten my left arm done by their artist Zuey there (pronounced "zoo" with an "e" sound in the end, not "Zoey"). She's so fun to talk to when getting tattooed by her and she has a way of making you feel comfortable no matter how much work you are getting done. Best deals, great atmosphere, trustworthy.
Review Source:When I was on a mission to find the perfect shop and artist, although I saw some awesome portfolios, they all just seemed pretty cookie-cutter in style and that was the exact opposite of what I wanted. I wanted a personal touch from someone who thinks outside of the box, and Zuey's style and preformance was exactly what I was looking for. I was very apprehensive about finding a person and place to suit my needs, I had only been tattooed by one other person (he did my first 4 tattoos, and this piece that Zuey did is my 5th) where I was born and raised in Rochester, NY and I doubted that I would be able to find someone of his caliber out here. I had started to think that I would just hold off until I visited Rochester again to have my artist do it because this piece is probably the most important one I will ever have. Having a tattoo is a lifetime commitment and I wasn't going to settle for second best. I found Zuey, and I knew that I wouldn't have to settle!
I got a fabulous and pristine piece from Zuey. I have recently moved to the Bay Area, and I have stopped in at quite a few tattoo places to check it out. There is some amazing talent here! I really liked a few other shops and artist's portfolios, but I didn't "fall in love" with any particular shop or artist until I met Zuey at MT Tattoos. To me, getting a tattoo isn't just about plastering a piece of ink, somewhere, my tattoos tell a story and reflect what and who I am from the inside, onto the outside. Another factor that is important to me is the personality of the artist, and whether or not we "click." It is about the all-around experience for me, and a very important one at that.
Zuey was there the first night I walked in to MT Tattoos when I was browsing through all the artist's portfolios with my husband. I loved Zuey's style, it was EXACTLY what I was looking for, and I didn't even know it was hers until I shared with her and someone else that worked there told me it was. After sharing ideas, she just "got" what I was trying to say, the story I was trying to tell, and what I wanted to accomplish. She was really excited and on board. It felt phenomenal  that she was as excited about doing my tattoo as I was.
Her and I clicked from the very beginning, and I knew within like 1 minute of us talking that she was "the one." And I told her just that. I had printed out pictures and wrote down what I liked and didn't like (pictures of phoenixes) about each one, and what she drew up was soo effing perfect! It absolutely blew me away. I didn't have an exact picture in my head of what I wanted, but she instinctively knew.
After she got done with this amazing piece of art that is proudly displayed on my forearm, I almost cried when I looked at it, and looked at myself in the mirror because it was so perfect, and she did this tattoo and everything it stands for justice.
She will be the only person to tattoo me as long as I stay in the Bay Area. When I have the money, I want to go back and just let her tattoo just about whatever on me (of course I would pre-approve it!). That's how much I love her work, appreciate and trust her as an artist.
I am just going to say it!! Awesome!!!
Having never before had a tattoo done I went with the girl that is working as an appratiance under Matt. Veronica is amazing!
She drew me up a custom piece that I am in love with it's on my forearm so everyone can see it. When I am out everyone been asking me who did and and asking for contact information and even on the shop.
I don't think this place gets enough reviews there are a lot of talented artist and people in this shop and I believe that you should walk in and see what it is all about.
On Tuesday they have a 30 dollar deal with any open artist when you walk in however it has to fit the guideless that they have up on the wall for the size still though pretty rad if you ask me. Â
Will be back soon for some more pain for pleasure and a piece of art that shall live on forever on my skin.
I came to MT Tattoo after getting a tattoo at the Tattoo Expo that just looked terrible. I met with the owner Matt and he fixed up the tattoo on my neck and it looked AMAZING! I've come back for 3 more tattoos since then and I love every single one of them. I only go to Matt Tarkman (the owner) because I love the work he does. I've recommended all my friends and family and they all go to Matt. I did have two friends who have gone to the other tattoo artists at MT and were not happy with their work. I only trust Matt because I know he does a great job and I will be continuing to go to him for all my tattoos in the future.
Review Source:Last labor day weekend I randomly decided that I wanted to get another tattoo and I'm so happy that I walked in MT Tattoos. I hate shops that smell like crazy strong incense and the staff all look like they are all on drugs - this shop is the opposite!! The shop is clean and the staff is friendly and down to earth. Jesus is awesome! I'll definitely return to him when I'm ready for my next one. He showed me that he was using clean needles and made me feel comfortable throughout the entire process. He was very courteous and wasn't trying to feel me up or anything (that happened when I got my first tattoo at a shop in Belmont) I was told that if it scabbed and flaked off, I could get it touched up for free but it healed perfectly. I'm very pleased with the results and the service I received and will definitely be returning soon to see Jesus!! Highly recommend MT Tattoos!!
Review Source:I wanted a simple star on my right elbow to represent, my new born son. But instead I got an ink stain that reminds me of how stupid I was to trust these assholes! Â Don't waste your time or money here. They are totally inept. Â
Just look at the picture I posted of their shitty work (as of 8/24/11 you'll need to look in my profile pictures).
My photo of their bullshit tattoo "skills" Â was removed under a Yelp TOS violation. Â So please contact Yelp and let them know the importance of being able to see the good with the bad when it comes to permanent body modification.
They ruined my skin. Â I will NEVER be able to repair or replace the damage caused by their lack of skill. Â I can only ink over or go through painful and expensive tattoo removal.
Yelp should hold tattoo artists to a higher standard. Â A bad tattoo is not the same as a bad meal or a lame hair cut. Â A bad tat is with you for LIFE!!
I'll up load a pic of my test tat from these dbags. Â Thank FSM I tested these dinks first!
I got my tattoo yesterday. I walked in and was greeted by Jesus. Jesus was friendly, courteous and helpful. He agreed to do my tattoo even though I have a low tolerance for pain. (I whimpered and squirmed the entire time.)
I am completely satisfied with my tattoo and I will definitely use Jesus again since he is an amazing tattoo artist. He made sure I saw him open new needles and he sterilized the equipment.
If you are a girl and are uneasy about getting tattoos with everyone gawking at you talk to Jesus. He will work with you and make you feel completely comfortable.
I got a back piece done here a few weeks ago and it's healing nicely.  I had a branch up my back  with 9 cherry blossoms. The piece is awesome the branch is twisted and gnarly while the flowers are soft and delicate looking.
The shop is very clean and I felt very at ease here even though my anxiety was through the roof cause I was scared about my first tattoo. They were awesome about giving me a break and getting me some water when I felt a bit intense.
I have a lot of skin allergies so the owner Matt make sure to have Eoin (my artist and shop apprentice) do a patch test to make sure that my skin was not going to reject the ink. My skin only got red so I took some Benedrly and proceed with the Tattoo.
This was my first piece and I sat through it for 4 hours! I brought in an image and he sketched it up. The piece came out quite a bit larger than I was expecting but I am pleased with the over all design of it and like that it is so large.
I had minimal flaking and the piece is almost completely healed. I would highly recommend Eoin(pronounced OWEN) as an artist... he's a very talented young guy and has a ton of potential.
Each piece is unique so you will have to discuss with your artist the price. Great place and I will be going back for a touch up and another tattoo soon!
See you there!!!
I went to this place to ask some questions about getting my nostril pierced.  I am not from the area so I wasn't familiar with which shops actually pierce and which ones only do tattoos.  I went in and Matt was at the front desk.  He was a very nice guy and he answered all of my questions so I decided to do the piercing right then.  After everything was all good.  I was all prepared to give them a great review on yelp, until the jewelry fell apart and began sinking into my nose.  I went back to see if he could change it and there was some girl who acted as if she had just finished getting high.  She was so freaking confused and said she knew nothing about piercings.  At that point I was thinking well why the hell are you working here then.  She called him on the phone and he was acting like a complete idiot.  He told me to keep the broken jewelry in my nose (even after I explained that the skin was starting to look weird) for a couple of weeks then come back and I can buy some more.  I thought he was a nice, professional  guy, but I guess not .  He uses cheap jewelry and I found out from the tattoo shop down the street that he does not know how do piercing he does tattoos and has messed up a couple of people.  Apparently he doesn't do tattoos to well either from what  the review below stated.  I was extremely disappointed at the service that I ultimately recieved here.  Matt is a nice guy, but being a nice guy doesn't get the job done.  He should be professional that is what makes a business successful.
Review Source:This is apparently not the month to get anything appearance altering done (see my hairstyle review below). I got a tattoo here as a walk in. I had a picture of what I wanted and figured it'd be a fairly simple piece. My artist was Mat, I believe. Very friendly & personable guy. Unfortunately the work is not quite there yet. Linework was sloppy and incomplete and the coloring was kind of random. I'll probably get my piece touched up someplace else after it heals. It's not *horrible* but considering it's in an area that I have to look at every single day, it's a reminder to research your artist really well, and trust your instincts. And ask to see a sketch of any changes to your original design before anything is inked permanently on your skin. I should know better because I have other tattoos but I figured this would be a fairly simple design to execute. Too bad.
Review Source:The shop was really clean and the layout of the room was professional. The experience was very personal, which is a good thing. The pricing was excellent. We wanted to get tattoos last minute on a Saturday and luckily MT Tattoos was able to fit us in.
Work was done by the apprentice Denise who did an amazing job. She had a positive attitude the entire time (and it was a LONG time). Very good work.
Would definitely recommend this shop.
After hearing some not-so-pleasant things about the tattoo services of fellow tattoo/piercing shop, Vibes, it's refreshing to find another tattoo shop in Redwood City.
Located right on El Camino at Broadway, MT Tattoo is the second shop in the Bay Area (the other being in Pacifica) MT is simple in its goal: no piercings, no shop, just ink. Minimal in decor, the shop itself has room for three tattoo stations. Clean and open, it's easy to find yourself staring into El Camino traffic as you're getting your work done.
I personally saw Denise, who is an apprentice at the shop, but everything was overseen by shop owner, Matt Tarkman. It was a slow Sunday afternoon, but I have been in before, finding more foot traffic (they are open daily, 12-8pm) The only other employees were Matt and another apprentice, although I believe there are three full-time artists, including Matt.
It's hard to open a tattoo shop and get business without first establishing a positive reputation. But thanks to Matt's knowledge with his Pacifica shop, MT Tattoos is a great place to get work done.
