I'm not too worried about my hair, but with that said - they are good. An old school feel of Please God do not make me leave! I go here to get a haircut and a shave when I'm feeling overwhelmed by life in general. It's a healthy alternative.
There products are off the charts cool. I sport the soft hoodie all over socal and the straight blades are correct. Love, Love, Love (they'll also tell you where to pick up a great burger and beer within walking distance...and there are a few!
Great shop, old school style but with modern conveniences. Â And I have to give kudos again to Dave at Old Glory. Â Dave is a barber that knows his craft. Â Hot towels and hot shaving cream, an awesome cut, Â this guy takes his time to ensure the cut is the best given. Â Great atmosphere with a great crew and a very talented Dave to tame those hairs. Â My beard never looked better, either. Â Dave, you are a Master in your craft. Â Go see Dave at Old Glory.
Review Source:Needed a cut, had some time between errands and this place was close by. Great old school atmosphere and conversation -- definitely a Venice establishment.
Gabe did an awesome job. He listened carefully to instructions and gave me the best cut I've had in years. Great barbers pay attention to all the little things, and Gabe's attention to detail was impeccable.
The place is also reasonably priced -- I was paying twice as much at my previous spot and I'm much happier with my cut here.
Definitely not worth the free beer.... The barber wouldn't shut the f* up long enough to listen to anything you were saying, especially while he was buzzing half way into your head. I wear my hair long and slicked back, and somehow ended up with a short permanent part. Â Guess I'll be wearing a hat for the next two months....
$30 for a $2 haircut.
Just got my 3d tattoo done here by Amanda, absolutely thrilled with it. Â The line work and color is gorgeous. Â She really understood what I wanted out of my design. Â The price was really reasonable, as well. Â Cannot express enough my excitement over this piece. Â Great artist, super friendly staff, nice location. Â Also, Willy does a pretty killer job on my hair. Â Keep up the great work, guys.
Review Source:Cool vibe. Cool staff. Â THANK YOU for giving my boyfriend the best haircut and shave he's ever had. Â I know this sounds like an exaggeration- but it is not. Â He looks HOT! Â He usually goes to this chain that I won't give free advertising to by mentioning their name. And he comes back with an uneven haircut that can't be fixed. He has now found his place, and I thank you again for that!!
Review Source:Ok, so my kid was in town from College, and since he was broke as usual, I offered him a free haircut on me. We had gone to places like Fantastic Sam's when he was young, and even a "cool and hip" hair place in Venice, but he never got a very good cut, and the prices for a bad cut were insane IMHO. ( Not everyone in Venice is rolling in dough!) He was ready for a real guy place and so I hit Yelp. I found Old Glory with amazing reviews. I read a few and thought, "what the heck, can't be any worse then it is now!" so off we went. Ok, so we walked in the door to a very cool and comfortable shop. The young guy behind the counter was not only very friendly, but had some really nice ink. There were several people sitting around and so I asked how long the weight would be. He said "right now!" My kid was shown to a really nice guy ( man I am so bad with names!!) who looked like he knew his way around the scissors ( Older African American gentleman, in case you walk in). He seemed to be having a great time laughing and talking with my kid, which my kid NEVER did while getting his hair cut. I was listening to some great local conversations, when I realized the guy next to me was the owner. Super friendly and really seemed to care about his staff and salon. ( by the way the salon was very clean, and had a great retro vibe) So after about 35 min. my kid was done. Not only was it one of the nicest haircuts I think he's had ( and he has a tough head of hair to cut, very thick and wavy) but the nice guy who was styling him had also trimmed up his beard! A minor miracle at my house. The whole thing only cost $30 and it was an overall awesome experience! If your ever in Venice with some time to kill and some extra hair, don't hesitate to go to this very cool local shop.
Review Source:Ive been living in south Santa Monica for a few years now and always went to a main street shop mostly because of the convenience.
But after walking into Old Glory last year its hard to imagine going anywhere else. Â The place looks great, the vibe is chill and laid back but friendly and they even offer you a beer while you wait! Â But the best thing by far about Old Glory has to be Barber Dave - talk about a man with some skills. Â Every time Dave cuts my hair I leave satisfied and ready. to. be. seen! Â With a great personality and an incredible eye for detail, this dude is worth hunting down for sure.
Overall great place and I'd highly recommend it to chill guys looking for a down to earth place to get a high quality cut and/or a shave and have a great time in the process.
Old Glory is a great place to get your hair cut. I haven't been brave enough to get a tattoo - but I'm sure I'd like it if I got one.
Barber Dave does an outstanding job every time I visit. I never feel rushed and know I'll leave looking great. It doesn't hurt they offer a drink as soon as you sit down - a beer and a haircut are the way to go!
Calling ahead is a good idea but walking in works too.
Ladies: Emelie is a star. She is great with color and cuts.
Due to a miscommunication (probably my fault) one time, I wasn't 100% thrilled with the way my color turned out. Although it was the end of the day she stayed late to make sure she got it right and I left happy. It is unusual to find people so committed to client satisfaction so I really appreciate her professionalism - she is also a lovely person.
Walked in for a cut at 11:30am today without an appointment. Dave took me, even though he had another appointment coming up around noon.
I moved to Los Angeles four years ago, and since then, I have been driving all the way to my former neighborhood in Long Beach to get my haircut from my old barber. Every now and again, I've been trying out different barbers in Los Angeles, but no place really impressed me.
Finally, I've found my new barber at Old Glory. I can't say enough positive things about the cut Dave gave me, not to mention the friendly and instantly comfortable atmosphere. Was offered a beer or water to drink while I was getting my cut, listened to good music, and had some great conversation. Bonus that the haircut was reasonably priced. I'm a new regular.
There's a reason this place has so many good reviews. Old Glory is the kind of place I'd make a special drive for just to keep going there. I'm just lucky it's so close that I don't have to. Check it out.
It's hard to find someone that cuts hair so well that when you go places strangers ask you where you got your hair cut. Â That's what happens when I walked into Old Glory and met Emellie. Â
Here's the perks of Old Glory.....
I text to make an appointment rather then having to wait. Â I've never waited more then 10 mins. Â
The cuts are so reasonable for me. Â With tip and product I usually walk out having only spent $35. Â In and out and no perks.....but if you have simply hair this is the best around.
I came here out of desperation... my regular girl was too booked up/too far for me to fit into my schedule and my hair had gotten out of control.
Cute shop. Very friendly stylist. Very easy to get an appointment.
My regular girl had done a little bit of a chop job on the last cut, not leaving a whole lot of cut/style options. The haircut was an improvement. She did a decent job. but didn't blow me away. I had to do some fixing on my bangs within a few days. Granted, she told me I could come in and she'd do it for free if I wanted, but I didn't want to bother. I am now just patiently letting it grow out until I can do something real to it again.
I might come here again in the future.
Good barber shop and tattoo parlour, with minimal wait time. They were out of beers when i went in though, maybe it's a sign I shouldn't be drinking at 1PM.
I was in and out in 20 minutes with a great cut. They wrap it up with a warm rag and neck shave with a straight razor too! Can't beat the service for the price in Venice.
If you need a great haircut while enjoying it, this is the place to go! Luis is a great barber and I recommend him to everyone. He cuts all my friend's hair and they've all loved them. You can't go wrong with a great cut in a friendly environment. Luis keeps you laughing but does his job well. He's a master of his craft and is the most dedicated barber I've ever known. Spread the word everyone. Luis Guzman is the man to see if you want your boyfriend, husband, friend, or family member looking good. He is very professional when it comes to his work.
Review Source:I walked in to Old Glory without an appointment and walked out with the best alt-looking haircut I've ever had.
Most times when I go into a hair salon looking for something with a little edge, the hair dresser tries to talk me out of looking too butch or too alternative. Not at Old Glory. I said I wanted something androgynous, but punk-ish, and good for curly hair. I got all three of my requirements and the haircut looked clean and versatile.
Of course, everyone was friendly and professional. The decor was cute too.
David always hooks it up right. Â Stumbled into this place randomly in November. Â I had seen it before, and even read about it in LA Weekly, but never actually stopped in. Â Fortunately, Dave's seat was open that first time I checked out this place, and he cut me up real nice (he also trimmed up my beard and beer-ed me too). Â I have since been back to Dave twice, and he never disappoints. Â He's great conversation, a super nice guy, and an excellent barber.
As for the actual shop, aesthetically it's pretty cool. Â They have the tattoo set up on one side and the barbershop set up on the other. Â Rockabilly and punk posters adorn the walls on the barbershop side (hanging above solid old school chairs) and flash adorns the tattoo side. Â Cool spot for sure.
Another Dave fan here. I've been having a terrible time getting a haircut that actually looked good... for years now. The older I get, the thinner my hair becomes in the front, so it's a challenge to not look like my father/older than I need. I sat in Dave's chair, he took one look and knew what to do. One of the best haircuts I've ever had and I'm going back for another today.
Review Source:Dave gave me a haircut that looks just great. Â He didn't even ask what I wanted, no hemming and hawing, just got right into it. Â He gave me a free comb and offered to give me his pomade because I didn't have any. Â Great guy. Â I also got a shave which was pretty cool, but I noticed when I got home he missed some small spots. Â No big deal, but the shave was kinda expensive (everything that wasn't missed was shaved closer than it's ever been, so that was good at least.)
Highly recommend!
I have been going to Old Glory for awhile and always gotten great haircuts from Jason. Jason was out this visit so i got a cut from Dave and it was equally amazing. I had pretty long hair and needed a "new job" clean cut. He took the time to ask me what i was looking for, took my input, gave me options and then delivered exactly what i was looking for.
I would highly recommend these guys.
After reading other reviews, I thought I'd give Old Glory a shot. I waked in on a Saturday and waited about 10 minutes for a cut. Dave offered me a beer and then did a fantastic job cutting my hair. He was respectful and listened to what I wanted, even made a few suggestions which I'm glad I took him up on. The cut was a total success.
Next time I'm in town I'll definitely be making another appointment here! Go Dave!
I've been going to Floyds for a couple years now and I just went here for the first time. I got a cut from Louis and I'm psyched about everything. He was great to talk to, is clearly passionate about cutting hair, does a great job and gave me a cold PBR while he worked. The music was good, they got a tv and the whole vibe is classic and comfortable.
I think I'll go here from now on.
Just moved to Venice and needed to get a quick trim. Saw David Martinez for the cut and he was super cool and only charged me for a clean up instead of a full haircut since I just wanted a trim. And even though it was only a trim, it was some of the best treatment I have had a barbershop.
Moving from NYC, I was used to going to Astor Place.
Walked in yesterday after a recommendation from a friend, and boy, was I glad I did! Emily immediately led me to a seat to get started on my hair. I went from long to an adorable pixie cut. Emily did EXACTLY what I asked, and I am beyond picky with my hair. She was friendly, welcoming, and incredibly talented. And all for only 40 bucks!!! Seriously? Why would I not come back?
THANK YOU, EMILY!!!
i recently tried old glory for a well needed haircut and left...well, disappointed. Â the cut was affordable and yes my hair was shorter when i left so they get "barber shop" points for that but there was no real care or attention given to the cut. Â it had zero style or shape to it. Â it's a shame cos i was digging the tattoo parlor/barber shop vibe and was hoping for more. Â think i will be looking elsewhere for my next cut.
Review Source:From about 2005-2008, I would have given this place six stars if I could. Sarah, the former owner, cut my curly hair perfectly in this absolutely cool punk/rockabilly style real barbershop, and for a great price. Then Sarah cut back on her hours, which was a bummer, but Chuck showed up, and he was great. Then a guy named Jason came in, and while my friend loved the style he gave her hair, I really could have done without his constant anti-Obama rhetoric. I mean, it's one thing to have your opinions, it's another to say the president (then-candidate) would pee on the American flag. And that was his favorite/only topic of conversation, and every time I went, he was there, talking about it.
Anyway, I kept dealing with it because I'm an adult, and because I loved Chuck--but late last year Sarah sold the shop to Jason and now Chuck has left. So that's the end of my business relationship with Old Glory, which is too bad.
This place is great. Im a regular here and it has pretty much improved in every way possible ever since Jason took over the spot. The haircuts are great... They have a kickass tattoo shop in the back... Everyone there is super friendly. It off the roundabout in Venice so its a pretty awesome location. Parking isnt really that bad for where they are at. I am a die hard Old Glory fan and cant say enough good things about the people there. Jason is the man. Very highly recommended.
Review Source:I have been wanting to cover up my so called "tramp stamp" that I got over 10 years ago and was a little nervous on where to go to get it taken care of. Â I have only lived in CA for a year so I was at a loss for who could give me the best tat possible. Â A friend referred me to Jeffrey Gombosi and lets just say he rocks!!! Â We walked into the shop and they were very welcoming and part of it was a barber shop, very venice-like. Â Good tunes, comfortable ambiance and great sense ofh humors. Â I told Jeffrey what I was thinking and he was very confident that he knew what I wanted. Â I showed him about 4 pics of other tats I liked and he picked up what I wanted right away. Â He gave his own suggestions as I wanted him too and whipped up a masterpiece in under 2 hours, seemed like a record time for the size/detail of my tattoo. Â His idea for covering my other tattoo was pure genious. Â Thanks Jeffrey! Â I will send mounds of business your way!!
Review Source:I have gotten tattoos LITERALLY all over the world. Â I had a blast at Old Glory. Â A bunch of friends and I showed up out of nowhere and pretty much moved in. Â We spent the entire afternoon hanging around, drinking beer, got some pizzas delivered, and literally laughed until we cried numerous times. Â The whole crew there was fabulous. Â My work was done by Chris and he/Jeff did the other friends' work as well. Â They all look phenomenal, were fast, and very reasonably priced. Â In addition, while waiting, one of my friends got a FABULOUS new hair cut from Ricardo. Â I wish everyone in the shop the best of luck and suggest anyone looking for a tattoo parlor or barbershop in the LA area to give Old Glory a shot. Â YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT!!!
Review Source:I have been going to this place since in or around 2006 after I had found great reviews of it on http://citysearch.com, and let me tell you I would not go anywhere else. All the stylists are absolutely fabulous, Chuck, Jason, this hip Indian girl. It really is more than just a barbershop. If you are a lady, do not be intimidated getting your haircut by some of the tattooed straight guys as they give some of the best cuts. The stylists are always uber cool and friendly. It is under remodeling, but from what I have been told they are looking to make it into a hangout/tattoo/styling place where you can have yourself a beer while you get your haircut. Plus, the prices are great at $40 for long and $25 for short. Cannot recommend more.
Review Source:I've been a loyal customer to another barber for a few years now, but to be honest, I didn't trust him to do anything than but the usual cut for my hair. I wanted something different that would look good so I tried Old Glory. Called on a weekday afternoon and they put me down on their list. There was no wait once I got there an hour later. Nandu cut my hair and she did a great job... I simply told her I wanted a different sort of style for my hair without being specific at all and she delivered a great hair cut.
Watch out though, on a hot day, this place is an oven, I came out drenched it sweat practically... kinda gross.
Kind staff. Â They gave me beer. Â Jason cuts my hair and he's great at it. Â The thing that drew me to this place is that they charge by length of hair, not by gender, and the stylist don't treat me like a freak since I'm a female who likes to get boy cuts. Â Why should I pay more simply because I'm a girl? Â Great place with an open mind.
Review Source:This place is dope. I just moved to Santa Monica and needed a local place for a quick haircut. Nothing fancy just don't make me look like more of a dork than I already am. First time I went I got Sarah and she was great. I booked a 2nd cut with her a few months later and she flaked on the appointment... not worries... as another guy stepped up to take her place. (I can't remember his name but he was cool, funny and did a good job. He even offered me a shot of tequila when he was done (It was a Friday afternoon after all)
This place is ALL Venice... what you see is what you get and what you get is down home, local and solid.
Been there twice and will be going back. My hair is really hard to cut, it's like a china-man's hair, grows straight out from my head and does not lay down. Job well done anonymous barber guy.
Free Red Stripe beer and Tequila and a four star hair cut.
I called ahead and they "put me down", but I arrived and had to wait a few mins.
I love this place. Â It somehow exists in Los Angeles - when it really should be in Providence or Portland. Â It's cool enough to be taken over by annoying hipsters, but somehow hasn't been. Â It's a miracle.
Go to Sarah, she is reasonable ($40 for a women's haircut!!) and totally totally rad. Â You cannot get a better haircut for $40, I'd bet my one year old on it. Â She cuts both my and my husband's hair, and both of us have been happy for years. Â But as of now she only works Mondays and Tuesdays, and either get there as they open, or call ahead to see how crowded it is, because they don't take appointments; it's walk-in only and you can end up waiting a bit if you're not careful.
Jason cuts my hair. Â I had all but stopped going to salons. Until now, I hadn't paid for a haircut since I lived in New York 10 years ago and even then I deeply regretted forking over 70 bucks for a "Friends" haircut when I specifically asked the guy not to give me one. Â Jason listened to my confusing version of what-I-didn't-want-not-knowing-what-I-actually-Âwant explanation. Â He heard me out and cut my my hair and for the first time in my life I walked out of a salon not wanting to cry. Â It was the first great cut I think I've ever had. Â So he's my guy now. Â Great price, and just around the corner from my house.
Review Source:Where else is a better place to get inked but the legendary VENICE beach??
I came here to get my first tattoo about a year ago. At the time (before I knew of Yelp!), I used the customer reviews from other websites to help me make a decision about where to get inked. My experience was great. I called on a Wednesday and was able to get an appointment for that Saturday. Naturally I was a bit nervous, but Kevin made sure I was completely comfortable the whole time. He even stopped to get me water and a candy bar when I started to feel a little bit dizzy from the adrenaline (note: EAT breakfast before getting a tattoo)! Although I only got a simple tattoo of letters on my wrist, Kevin did an amazing job and the tattoo is flawless. The lettering is detailed and looks like calligraphy. He was extremely helpful in helping me figure out exactly what size I wanted the tattoo and where I should place it. I had brought in a picture of (what I thought was) a similar lettered tattoo, but Kevin was able to point out the amateur quality of the tattoo I had printed out that I would never have noticed myself. He's been doing this for years, and his passion for it shows. He even offered for me to come back anytime for a free touch up. I might be back for my (now would be) THIRD tattoo...they're addicting, watch out!
Very nice cuts. Â The guy who cut my hair was very attentive and listened to what I was saying. Â Complaints are minimal: the stylists talk to their clients a bit much, so the wait can be a lot longer than necessary. Â And only some of the stylists accept credit cards, so you don't necessarily know if you need cash or not...
Review Source:Great, consistent cuts at a fair price. Around 30 bucks and they offer you a rinse afterwards. They've offered me beer a few times but I've always been hungover or on my lunch break when I go here. The only problem is parking because it is so close to Venice beach. Your best bet is to go on weekdays to avoid the excess people.
Review Source:The Good: Â A gem in Venice. Â It's a tiny little shop with about 3 chairs. Â Cool vibe and totally friendly people. Â Very chill, a tad too chill in a way. Â I walked in and there was nobody at the counter. Â There was just a clipboard asking you to sign in. Â No order or numbers next to your name, you just write it down. Â How would they know who was next? Â They don't, so why even have it. Â The stylist that I had was Nandu, she was cool and did a great job on the hair. Â I wanted something more stylish, but she didn't style it just gave me some ideas...meh.
The Bad: Â Without Yelp I don't think I would have ever found this place. Â Good cuts but $30 bucks for a simple cut is a tad high. Â
The Ben: Â It's not your LA trendy shop. Â It's sooo Venice. Â The do serve beer with your cut.
If you throw a stick in this town you're bound to hit a lame chain "barbershop" Â where they'll give you extra attitude with a crappy over-priced haircut. They might even make you wait a long time for the privilege. (e.g. Rudy's).
Thankfully there's Old Glory. It's independent, local and gives great haircut.
I've been going to Sarah for a few years and she's always done me right. Whether it's short cuts or long ones she knows what she's doing. Good cuts. Friendly people. No bull.
Old Glory = go.
review is for kevin.....
i was recommened by a friend who knows the owner of the shop and had discussed getting some work done with kevin. alas, he wanted some hybrid tribal/japanese/grafitti stuff and decieded on another artist, but told me that 'this guy does exactly what you love', old school, traditional, sailor jerry type ish.
so when i was researching who i wanted to go to for my 2nd tatt, i took a look at his stuff. looked good, he had good reviews, and came recommended by someone who's artistic opinon i value alot.
i emailed him ideas of what i was looking to do. he told me to phone him up. from the first conversation it was very comfortable, he was stoked on what i wanted and said he could sketch something up and email it over, before end of day i saw my protoype. i made an appointment, and when i arrived he was very personable, and down to earth. we personalized my piece, went over size, and placement. he really stressed making sure i was happy "because this is forever". rock on!
he's a solid guy, great artist and witty to boot! i had so much fun just sitting and talking with him while being drilled with a needle for like 2 hours. i'm so EFFIN happy with my piece, and this dood's personality that i'm going back so we can add the other touches that i want.
check him out for sure!
I usually go to Supercuts. But I wanted to try something slightly more classy to see if there's an appreciable difference. So when I needed a haircut, based on what I had read on Yelp, I decided to go to Old Glory. I got there before they opened on Saturday morning, so I was the first customer of the day.
As a barber by the name of Chuck was cutting my hair, I pondered whether it was a good or bad thing to come in first thing in the morning. I mean, maybe the barbers should warm up, or loosen up a bit before touching my hair.
But it worked out well. I'm happy with the haircut. Chuck was fast and cheerful, and the price was decent. Still not sure if it's worth the extra ten bucks over Supercuts if you're getting a basic haircut, but I haven't any complaints.
I got my first tattoo by Kevin. Â We randomly walked in. Â He seemed to do a great job on my 2 other friends that came to get tattoo's. Â But mine came out pretty bad. Â I'm not sure if he was rushing or not. Â The lines aren't straight and the shading is very uneven. Â
My 2 friends tattoo's, and friends that we refered to him immediately afterwards look wonderful. Â He's really good at images with curves, but tattooing straight lines are a little uneven from my experience with him.
Very cool shop; catering to a very hip demograph.
Brian Ewing framed art on the walls, professionals with sissors and needles.
I'm making plans to get a pinner from Kevin during the week of the 4th of July; just a little piece to say I was there and mark the beginning of a new season of change.
This is it! Â
If you're looking for that perfect barbershop that has competent stylists, a tattoo parlor in the back, Red Stripe for the clients and good music, you've found your place.
I've been going to Sarah for about 4 years now. Â I followed her from Rudy's @ The Standard. Â Not only is she good to look at, but she cuts a mean head of hair. Â Prices are reasonable. Â A short hair haircut is only $25 bucks. Â Not sure what she charges for long hair cuts. Â And they do color.
The ambiance is great, I very rarely have to wait for longer than 1/2 an hour and I come out feeling like a million bucks. Â Hell, I'm driving from North Hollywood to see Sarah...so you know she's good.
I would say that really the only negative, if you can even call it that, is that parking can sometimes be a bitch. Â I mean, we live in LA...parking is always a bitch.
Kevin runs the tattoo part and is a great artist and always open to new ideas. Â He's currently working on my half-sleeve and is easy to work with, a good dude to talk to, and always flexible with appointments. Â If you're thinking of getting work done and will be in the area, definitely ring him up. Â You can find more info and art from him here:

What can I say, they do a good job on my hair and for only $25. What, you say Rudy's is $19? Â *clears throat*
Well, that's because IT'S A CHAIN. You might as well be going to Supercuts. And Rudy's doesn't serve Red Stripe. HOORAY BEER!
n.b. they do women's hair well too and they seem to be blowing up on the tattoo side of the biz as well. I can't believe i just posted a review for where I get my hair cut. I need a drink.
