I've spent over 40 hours here getting tattooed by L. I'm in love with her. She is just the sweetest most talented babe alive. I get stopped CONSTANTLY for the work she has done on me. Besides being an incredible artist, she is really just a great person. It's definitely a plus when spending that much time with someone. Also I have gotten about 5 piercings here. The piercers are just beyond professional, knowledgeable, & friendly. This is an incredible shop, obviously highly recommended by me! (:
Review Source:Got my first tattoo with Paul Black while Anaheim shop was still open back in 98 and my experience with the artist was great. Â My tattoo was so good that I didn't want to get another one because I don't think it would be as good. Â
Being in the military, tattoo was very common and getting tattoos overseas is a must...but not me.  When I decided to get another tattoo (an addition to my existing tattoo) I met with a  few artist and spent a few down payments without getting anything done because they did not meet my expectations and seems like they just want to take my money and get it over with. So when I finally got stationed back in San Diego, I decided to look for my original artist (Paul Black) and found out that he now works in Orange.  I gave him a call and made a consultation for my addition.  After all these years... 15 to be exact, I didn't really know what I wanted but have some ideas.  Paul ran with my ideas and made an appointment the following month.  He showed me the sketch and asked if I was good with it.  I told him that it looks good and let's do this.  3 hours later, my tattoo looked AMAZING!!  It didn't look like an addition, it looked as if I got a new tattoo! Â
Paul was very professional and accommodating of my needs which made my experience a very great one!! Â And when I do decide to get another tattoo (hopefully it won't be 15 years later) I would definitely go back to Paul Black!!
When I see some of the post of being pricey, I don't believe that price is the driving factor...it should be the QUALITY.
Finally decided to take the leap and get my first tattoo. Â I spent nearly a year researching various artists in the area, and ultimately wanted to find someone with a diverse, experienced portfolio and who would make the experience a positive one. Â I decided to go with Paul Black, and cannot recommend him highly enough.
I went in for a consultation with some ideas and sketches, and Paul took them to the next level. Â From the tattoo placement to the balance of all the various elements, he created exactly what I envisioned. Â Most importantly, he's really laid back and fun to talk to, which made sitting in his chair all the more enjoyable. Â I had such a great time working with Paul, I am already thinking about getting another. Â
Also, the staff at this Outer Limits location is very friendly and helpful.
Finally, for those on the fence about getting a tattoo, do it. Â I don't have the highest threshold for pain (I agonize over simple visits to the dentist), and that is what always held me back from getting one. Â My tattoo took about 5 hours over two sittings, with a fair amount of color and shading, and the pain is totally bearable. Â The sensation is more uncomfortable than painful, although the intensity does increase in more sensitive area, but overall it feels like a cat scratching at your skin.
You get what you pay for! The first time I got my tattoos done, I was cheap, young, and impulsive. Ten years later, my tattoos looked like mutants. A shark instead of a dolphin, a blob instead of the ocean, a snake instead of a dragon. Based on a friend's awesome tattoo that she got done by "L" I decided to see what she could do for me. I had to make an appointment months in advance (so much for being impulsive!) and pay more than I did the first time around, but it was worth it! "L" was professional, sweet, and a fantastic artist to boot. My tattoos now look like I wanted them to to begin with! Next time I decide to get a new one, I'm not going to screw it up. I'm going to go to "L" and spend a little more, but get it done right the first time!
Review Source:Just got my first tattoo here with Brad. So glad I had him as my artist. I really lucked out, especially being a walk-in. Outer Limits is fantastic. Super clean and very professional. Brad made me feel very comfortable throughout the entire process. My tattoo was pretty simple, but he made sure I was happy with both the size and placement of my tattoo before we got started. The lines are clean and smooth, and it's exactly what I wanted. All I can say is, I will definitely being going back to see Brad at Outer Limits for my next tattoo. Right now I believe he only works there on the weekends, but I would be willing to travel to any shop he works out of.
Review Source:Went to Outer Limits as a walk-in based on Yelp reviews to get my first ear piercing. I had a few things to learn granted, but the dick4 they had me talk to wasn't helpful at all. In fact he had a too cool for school attitude so I just decided to go somewhere else. I ended up going to Canvas Tattoo & Piercing in Fountain Valley where Anthony was extremely helpful and turned me over to Diego who did a perfect job.
Review Source:Started my first tattoo over at the old (now closed ) Anaheim location with Linda Tobin. Ended up following her over to this location when it open to do my second tattoo. Outer Limits is a class act. With over 10 hours under the skillful hand of Linda I can say that without a doubt I made the right choice when picking my artist. The work is wonderful, the detail is perfect and the colors and shading are spectacular. Now that it's been a while.......I'm starting to get the itch for something new. Thinking maybe a back piece? We'll see.
But whatever I do.....there's no one else I would use.
Tattoo tip: When in for a long session.....don't ask for breaks....once you get "numb" just keep going. Once you take a break....it's like starting all over.
My 18 year old son went in yesterday and got his first tattoo. CROW, is probably the best artist I have met the last 24 years who is a perfectionist. My son did a beautiful tat for his mom and to see the attention to detail by CROW was amazing. I will not only recommend CROW to everybody and anybody, but as a small business owner I will proudly promote his cards at my workplace. I truly feel in the next few years CROW will be a huge name is his industry. Outer Limits is a clean place with friendly help and I hope parents as well as kids check out the work CROW does. I wish I could post the picture of my son's tattoo for the world to see. You Rock CROW and Outer Limits
Review Source:My best friend recently took me to see Paul at Outer Limits for a birthday tat, and he did an excellent job!!! I have never seen such professionalism at a tattoo shop like this! Not only that, but the lines were smooth and the shading and colors were exactly how I wanted them. I'm a huge fan of old school ink and its hard to find an artist that can do the bold smooth lines that are paramount of those kinds of tattoos. Paul was amazing and I am definitely going back for more work!!! Plus the guy at the front desk is fabulous!!! He really helped make a good experience for my friend and I on my birthday!
Review Source:Today, I got my nose pierced. I was very impressed with the professional atmosphere of Outer Limits and especially my piercer, Brian - I could not recommend him more!
I came in wanting to start straight off with a hoop, but Brian let me know the pros and cons and I ultimately decided to go with a simple stud. Brian was informative, clear, and calm, and he encouraged me to take time to think about the decision. His no-pressure demeanor gave me the courage to go through with it! I'm very happy.
This review is a little late being that I got my tattoo here in 2001. That being said. I was a walk in and they booked me with someone named Clark. When I was introduced to him, I discovered he had an eye patch. It took all of my strength not to run for the door. I'm glad I stayed because I got the best tattoo ever.(Now he's on some A&E TV show?) Even after all of these years, I've still remembered the name of the person who did my tattoo. The service was great. The location is convenient. Everything is clean and well maintained. I would also like to mention I got my belly button pierced here in 1999. Ya, it's been that long, but the place is still kicking! Highly recommend.
Review Source:3 years later...Mikey Carrasco! Still the guy I go to for all my intricate pieces...just look him up and his portfolio. I've had two sleeves (one in progress) and three other works by him and I love them all, and get compliments whenever people see them. I try to see him every month or two but that can get pretty expensive but it's been pretty close to it. After we complete the current sleeve in progress, I hope to start getting some of his original art pieces because they're so good. He has really progressed so much through the years with his tattooing and sketching/illustration/fine art. I highly recommend checking him out; honestly, all my friends are now going only to him as well.
Review Source:As a belated birthday and Xmas gift from my boyfriend, I was looking into getting my first tattoo. My best friend had recently passed, so the tattoo would be dedicated to her. I looked for an artist for the last three months, since every artist has a different style, and viewed work, portfolios, reviews, and yelp. I put a lot of thought into the design and what I'd want it to look like. I wanted to get realistic/realism roses with a quote. Something simple, but stunning.
A friend of mine had been tattooed at outer limits orange by "L". My friend had 3 roses, and her tattoo alone was stunning. I decided to view more of L's work, and set up a consultation with her. The consultation went great, and a month later got tattooed. Booking for a consultation or a appointment takes more time than I would have hoped. Yet, I am not in a rush to get tattooed; I was just extremely excited and impatient (hah!) I wanted to get my tattoo done in one sitting, but I am also happy I have some breathing time. The design is amazing; the roses are immaculate and gorgeous. I can't wait to come back to get it finished next month. L took her time, was friendly, understood exactly what I was looking for, and is an amazing artist.
She originally quoted me for a set price, and when I went in she quoted me by the hour (which was $100 less than the total.) The price threw me off since I wanted to originally get everything done in one sitting which had a set price, but in the end, I am glad the way things panned out. But honestly, for anyone here complaining about prices being to high- You get what you pay for. You can't rush art, talent, or be impatient, because a tattoo is permanent. I am so happy with everything. I would highly recommend L, especially for any floral pieces. None the less, they deserve 5 stars. "L" is wonderful and talented, the staff is friendly, it's clean, and a great atmosphere.
NOW, go see L! :)
Got my tattoo finished on march 28th,
L did an amazing job! I absolutely love it!
If I could only tell you how amazing this place is. I would recommend any one to OUter limits in orange. I got my tragus pierced today and the entire experience was so great and I am returning for more, along with family and friends. I was just treated so well and cared for before and after my piercing. They truely care, making you feel as comortable as can be. Brian was my hero, he spent so much time with me before and after, answering questions as dumb as mine are and going out of his way to make me feel like a queen. For just a silly ear piercing, the staff here truely truely cares for thier guests. The procedure was quick and painless. He walked me through everything he was doing. I can talk about this place for a long time and I'm sure I'm missing some other great aspects to this shop. It's absolute sterile clean, organized and professional. It's perfect. Amazing to say the least. We love u Brian. Great guy. Ask for Brian.
Review Source:Me: I think today is the day I get my nose pierced
*blank stare*
Her: You're drunk. Maybe you should reconsider when you're sober.
Me: No, I make my best decisions when I'm drunk. We should definitely go right now and get this done.
And that's exactly what we did. After a fabulous champagne brunch, we headed up to Orange and I got my nose pierced. Mind you, it wasn't exactly a drunk decision. It's just something that popped into my head while being intoxicated and something I've always wanted to do but put off for some insane reason.
On that particular day, the shop was a little slow. We were the only ones there and out walks this Greek god of a man named Ron. Being a little tipsy, buzzed, intoxicated...we were both floored and could barely speak. I forgot why I was there. Oh yeah, my nose. Duh.
Ron made the entire process quite painless. $50 for a piercing that includes the jewelry. I took forever choosing the right shade of purple (my favorite color) and he was very through and explained the procedure accurately. The shop itself is very clean and the whole operation is very professional. I've been pierced for about a year now and I LOVE it! I'll be back here if I decide to get inked or just feel like visiting Ron..just because..
I got my first belly piercing here. I got Brian and he was awesome. Such a bubbly personality and very informative. He told me everything I need to do after care, the process and just everything. He got me relaxed and joked around along with my friend and made me comfortable. The place was clean and sterile. I HIGHLY recommend to get a piercing here. I want to try to get a tatt here but I'll wait. Great place. Love it.
Review Source:I got my first tattoo here based on Internet reviews. Â I walked in to check the place out and ended up with "L". Â She was way cool and walked me through the whole process from design to payment. Â My only complaint, other than price but you get what you pay for, is the time. Â It takes a loooong time. Â And sometimes they are late. Â Oh well. Â perfection and greatness cannot be rushed and I think this place is all of the above. Â At least "L" is and I can't imagine the other aren't as good. Â
Great work, shading, detail and line work. Â Very meticulous needle work. Â While getting it done some of the other artists came in and said they wouldn't have the patience to do that kind of line work. Yeah, not sure I had the patience to sit through it, but I did and am very glad. Â Opps, I wondered off and rambled a bit. Â
In a nut shell, great place, relaxed setting, very professional people each time I have gone and the work is very well done. Â My two cents about this joint.
So, I was down in so cal on vacation and I thought 'what better time to get my nostril re-pierced?'. I trusted my fellow yelpers and ended up at this place. I had to wait a bit because some stupid broad had pierced herself and it got infected (big surprise, huh?). So while the piercer (I didn't catch his name, he had a beard and was super hot though) dug the jewelry out of her cheek, I waited patiently. It was a long wait, probably 30 minutes, but well worth it when I heard the lady screaming and hoped she had learned her lesson!! So, I go in, lay down. We make small talk. I'm a little turned on by the beard. He pierces my nostril (no pain this time!), gives me aftercare advice, and I'm on my way. $50, thats it! A week later, it's healing nicely, still no pain or swelling. I would def recommend these guys! Ill be visiting so cal again real soon:)
Review Source:Brian Oviatt was amazing, funny, and so calming. My sister got her first navel, she tried to go 3 times and chickened out however Brian made her feel comfortable and pierced her perfectly quick and easy! He is very easy to talk to and is happy to answer any questions.
Nose piercing $60 including jewelry
Navel piercing$75 including jewelry
Thanks Brian !!!
I first got tattooed by "L" in December of 2010. She is absolutely amazing!! My tattoo is beautiful, the color is still vibrant and I even fell asleep while she was working on me. She is smart, funny, creative and extremely talented. I even brought my daughter to "L" get her first tattoo in December 2011.
I will never get ink from anyone else again. "L" is awesome!!
This place is great! Got my first tattoo here yesterday. Â Staff is friendly and the facility is nice and clean. Â I was very lucky they had an opening when I walked in. Â Tattoo looks great so far and I couldn't be happier with it. Â Definitely coming back here for my second, third, fourth...
Review Source:Yeah. Â So. Â This happened. Â I got my first ink at the same time my special lady got her second. Â Crow gave me mine a few days ago and I am quite happy so far. Â I'll know better after it fully heals, but suspect I will only want touch up to ensure the color stays deep and bright. Â
All of the staff here is friendly, very professional and the place is very clean. Â I would say the only downside is that our tattoos were apparently 20-25% more expensive than elsewhere. Â But you get what you pay for. Â Or to paraphrase he to whom my tattoo is an homage, "anything cheap costs twice as long in the long run or turns out to be worthless."
I have been tattooed twice in the past 5 months at Outer Limits. These are my first two tattoos and I don't have much to compare my experiences with. Regardless of my lack of expertise, I am so pleased with my interactions with the staff and results.
Pros:
- VERY EXPERIENCED STAFF
Paul did my side and he's been tattooing for 22 years! He expertly evaluated the different sizes of the poems I brought in, gave me solid, honest advice and quickly and professionally completed my new tattoo! Crow worked on my first tattoo, a little symbol on my wrist (Gandalf's signature, that's right). He was very friendly and accommodating to mine and my fiance's OCD-like requests. He even touched the tattoo up a few weeks later, for free, just to make sure it was exactly what I wanted.
- EXTREMELY CLEAN/HYGIENIC
Sterilized equipment in new packaging, sterile tattoo room environment, Gloves everywhere, great lighting, clean bathrooms. Jesus, the place even smells nice.
- VERY FRIENDLY STAFF
My fiance and I are, well, big nerds. We are not at all stereotypical cool kids. Regardless of our dorky, talkative, slightly obnoxious demeanor, everyone at Outer Limits is SO nice to us. While I was having my side piece done, both L and Brian (piercer) stopped by to check up on me and comment on Paul's work. It was such a relaxing (I know, weird that anyone would describe a tattooing experience as "relaxing") few hours.
Cons:
I guess... kind of expensive? I'm not really sure about this one. I feel that, like plastic surgery, you get what you pay for. And I'm not really in the market for a "cheap" tattoo. That sounds kind of terrifying... My appointment was for 5:30, we got started at 6 and finished at about 8: 30 -ish. The tattoo cost $300 and I tipped 25%. When you think about how hard my artist, Paul, worked, and how difficult tattooing lettering on the rib cage and side is... I think it is well worth the price.
I won't go anywhere else for future tattoos.
You would have thought as much as I love my tattoos I would have Yelped  "OL" years ago....but I didn't. and for this I am deeply mortified because I do love my two tattoos. I always tell people go to "OL" so now I am screaming it from the Yelpin' Tops- so to speak.
It has to have been at least  7+ years since my second one, the first one I decided to do on a whim heading home from the grocery store probably 15 years ago. Talk about out of your normal routine, right?! LMAO.
My first was simple a 7-colour Japanese swallow tattoo, this is a type of bird ,the second was done by Splat, its a dark black sharp tribal- OHHH YESHHHH and  I have to say I love my tattoo-- I have no idea if Splat is still there-- but if he is..THANK YOU. He is really a great artist, professional, listens to what you want and is honest in his vision and work.
Now things may have changed since I was last there- as things do, but I didn't need to make an appointment and I paid cash. I have no idea what the prices arethese days but I am sure they still quote the work as they did both times for mine.
Happy Inking.
I love Outer Limits! I have now added a nose piercing, cartilage, and nipple piercings to my list thanks to Outer Limits. Last night I worked with Brian to get my nipples pierced, and he was totally professional and sanitary throughout the entire process. I will definitely be coming back here for anything else I may want...they consistently deliver and I've never had a problem with infections or discomfort after piercing with them. Thanks guys!
Review Source:Walked out without getting a piercing, but 5 stars for Brian O. for being friendly, patient, informative, and most of all HONEST that the piercing(s) I was interested in wouldn't work in the places I wanted because of skin type and likelihood of rejection.
Most places simply take your money and pierce whatever you ask for, without determining whether it's a "good" piercing for you. I definitely appreciated the consult and will be back to see him if and when I figure out something that works!
Best tattoo shop in Orange county. Super clean & professional environment with awesome staff that will help you with all tattoo & piercing needs. Â They have some of the best tattoo artists in California & i would recommend this shop to everyone. Â Ask for Linda as long as she's not tattooing me, ha! ;)
Review Source:Nose piercing is $50 including the jewelry. The peeps here are professional and "don't f*ck around" haha.
I got my nose piercing done by Ron a few weeks ago.. Ron briefly goes over the do's and dont's when getting a piercing and he talks pretty fast. If you're not sure about something, then ask! So far I haven't gotten an infection or anything, so I'm pretty happy.
I was in and out of the place within 30 minutes; I went on a Saturday morning so it wasn't too busy
hmm other than that, Mikey the shop hand/front desk is super awesome and friendly
I came here after asking a few shops to do a small, four word white ink tattoo on my arm. Most artists I spoke to tried to convince me out of getting the tattoo in white, and made me feel stupid for even wanting it, even though I had seen someone with my skin tone with a white ink tattoo and researched enough to know what I was getting into. I originally went to the Outer Limits shop in Costa Mesa after seeing the great reviews, but the artist in the shop didn't want to do a white ink tattoo. They directed me to Outer Limits in Orange and I went over to speak to Linda and make an appointment. Finally someone who wasn't condescending about my getting a white ink tattoo! She was really knowledgable and told me the risks with white ink, and asked my heritage because it affects the way the white ink tattoos heal. Since I'm really white she told me I would be a good candidate as longa s I took care of the tattoo, and I put down the $60 deposit for an appointment the next day.
The shop is a converted dentist office so it's really clean and professional, and so were all the artists I saw. Linda was really really great and did an amazing job. I got the tattoo close to the crease of my elbow so it wasn't exactly pleasant, but despite using white ink she did the tattoo quick and extremely well. She even offered to touch it up for free in two weeks if it fell out, which isn't usual with white ink since it is so unpredictable. The tattoo is perfect a month later and doesn't seem to be falling out anywhere. Shop minimum is $60 so I didn't have to pay any more than my deposit, just to tip Linda because she was so great! She was knowledgable, professional, approachable, and just really nice. Even my mom liked her and we will both go to Linda for any future tattoos!
L is amazing! She is definitely a talented artist with great people skills. The work she did on me is a piece of art. I could take a picture of my tattoo and frame it. This is a very clean shop. I was charged a bit over $200 for 1.5 hours of work, but quality and cleanliness are completely worth the amount. Absolutely worth recommending.
Review Source:I am very late on reviewing this place, but I needed to find time to do so because L is amazing. Granted, my tattoo from her was done back in 2010, BUT it was wonderful the day I walked out till today.
She was great, explained everything well, and drew up exactly what I wanted. The color over the past two years hasn't faded one bit (I have had a previous red tattoo that didn't hold up half as well as this).
yes, the prices are a lil high, but this is something going on you FOR LIFE. spend the extra money.. cause 2 or even 20 years from now you want to look down at it and be just as happy (if not happier) as the day you got it!
on a side note: i have also been pierced by Ron on several occasions. I will not go to anyone else. I even had trouble at one point with an earring that was jammed up and he fixed it no problem.
.. it also doesn't hurt that he is easy on the eyes.
I would recommend this place to anyone if they are looking for clean, excellent quality work.
I went to Outer Limits In Orange with a friend of mine to get her Septum pierced. She did a huge amount of research on piercers before she chose to go to Ron Garza. While we were there I decided to get something pierced myself. I got my nape pierced and absolutely love it!
Ron is not only a cool dude, he is ultra nice and helpful, not to mention funny as hell! Since the first great experience I've been back numerous times to get sub-dermals, and my nipples pierced. I was very hesitant to go to a man to get my nipples pierced but he was VERY professional, he never made me feel uncomfortable at all. My nipples and sub-dermals are healing very nicely, he did an amazing job!!!
Thank you Ron!!!
I've been here twice to get earlobe piercings.
The first time I went with my friend and I got my second earlobe piercings. I think the piercer was Mike, and he was great! He was super friendly, very gentle, and very sterile. It barely even hurt (and I'm a wimp) and it healed very quickly and cleanly.
The second time I went by myself to get my third earlobe piercings.
It was a different piercer and he seemed a little rushed and was a bit rougher (might have been Ron?).
It could just be because I got my 3rd piercings just two weeks after my 2nds (perhaps making healing difficult and take longer) but after 6 weeks they're still sensitive and aren't healed. But even still, very clean, and I've had no real problems with them.
It's difficult to rate the entire shop when it really depends on the individual piercer (or tattooist) who you're working with. But overall, still two good experiences and the shop was very clean and friendly.
I had done a lot of research and found Outer Limits and decided to go there for a tattoo I have been wanting for a long time. I made an appointment and saw Mikey. Everything went really well and I LOVE my 6 bats! The lines are very clean and sharp and the color is even. I definitely recommend Outer Limits and Mikey.
Review Source:If I could give 6 stars, I would.
I have had the pleasure of being worked on by 3 artists in the shop, Jen Davis, Josh Davis and Mike McKinnon.
Jen has done many tattoos on me and every one looks amazing. Â I get stopped on the street by random people asking about my tattoos from Jen. Â Jen has always taken what I had in my mind and turned it into something better than I could even imagine. Â
Josh did a large cover up piece on my back and turned a tattoo that I wasn't thrilled about into one of my favorites. Â He took the time to really work with the existing piece and make the new tattoo look great.
Mike is one of the piercers in the shop and is fantastic. Â He was gentle and professional and did a great job on my piercings. Â He was very interactive, gave me some great advice and followed up to see how I was healing.
The crew in this shop is hands down the best I've ever found. Â Do yourself a favor and go to Outer Limits if you want good work done well.
And to those that say it's pricey, you're insane. Â I've seen your "bargain" tattoos when you're in Outer Limits having them fixed. Â You really do get what you pay for and with something that is forever, why f**k around?
I got my industrial and nose piercing done by Mike and he was great! He kept me calm and explained the piercing process as he was doing it so I was prepared for everything.
I then took my sister in to get pierced and we were helped by Ron. Mike and Ron definitely have different personalities. I prefer Mike as he is more laid back. Ron is way more intense and uses a ton of foul language. Not saying anything bad about Ron, different personalities work better together, I just personally prefer Mike as I am more laid back.
I got a tattoo here a few days after turning 18. I am very happy with it, it was done by L, she's definitely a good artist. I also went back a year later and got a piercing re-done, and they did it really quickly for me. The only reason I'm giving them four stars instead of five, is that they are really expensive, you do get what you pay for however :]
Review Source:Accidentally ripped the bead out from my cartilage piercing -.- Several youtube videos, a mangled ear, and sore fingers later, I sheepishly showed up here and asked them if they could please salvage my piercing, which they gladly did (for free too). Everyone was friendly and helpful, and the place looked very clean and professional. I'll definitely come back here for future piercings (and hopefully not for piercing mishaps)!
Review Source:Came back a year later and booked another appointment with Jen. I just wanted to say that everyone that I've met at this shop were very nice and helpful. From the lady that answered my phone call, Michael who made booking my appointment a breeze and then to Jen, my wonderful artist who made the whole process comfortable. I value her opinion a lot and I loved how she was able to incorporate my new design with my existing one.
Thank you again Jen!
Three girls walk into a tattoo shop...
It was our first visit to this location. Â We had drawings with us but decided to start by looking through the portfolios to see who's style we liked. Coincidentally, we all picked the same artist, 'L'. She's awesome!
She was warm and friendly and I immediately felt comfortable and at ease with her. L took the time to ask many questions and she worked the sketch until it was perfect. She also spent considerable time explaining the process and was very detailed in how to care for it to ensure proper healing.
It was my first tattoo. I gave her a drawing of what I wanted and she created a piece of art with the most amazing vibrant colors. It came out far better than I expected. She encouraged me increase the size a bit to show the detail and I was beyond satisfied with the finished product.
She worked quickly and was great fun to talk to during the process.
The shop is very clean and well organized. I would definitely go back if ever I decided to get another one.
I got my very first tatoo here with El, she is an awesome artist, I gave her the 2 pictures that I wanted to incorporate into my tatoo, and she came back with a design that blew me away, that and her previous work which they had in a notebook solidified my decision to go with her, she is also super friendly, and accommodating. Â
Some people here are complaining about there prices $150 an hour, saying the prices are a little high. Â If you want quality work you have to pay for it, you get what you pay for. Â For something that is going to be with you the rest of your life, you can not put a price on that.
Tattoos are painful right? And it used to be you were a real bada$$ if you had them, but I giggled at how butthurt a certain artist at Outer Limits got when I decided to cancel 1 week before my appointment and I took my deposit back. Tats are for life, and I guess he couldn't understand that I wasn't going to let him sit down and start coming up with sh!t off the top of his head. No vision for what he was going to do, no sketch work, nothing. I came in with a theme, a loose guideline of what I wanted, and I assumed the deposit that I would place would be advance payment for some sketches and outlines and artist vision. For me, tattoo artists are just that, artists, but I think it's kinda like Banky and Holden from Chasing Amy...this shop is the Banky, they just color it in, Holden is the magic.
And I have talked to a few of my inked friends with really nice work since this happened and they all said Outer Limits is a ripoff, way too expensive but your mileage may vary.
I've gone to Mike D about 3 times already, and each time my tattoo just keeps looking better.
I had him add to an exsisting tattoo, and the way he blended it all in, was really incredible. He is very friendly, very cautious with safety and cleanliness.
Quotes by the hour, but always gives you extra time.
The shop is really clean, and very friendly.
Not your average dirty tattoo place.
This is the place to go for all your piercing and tattooing needs. I got almost all of my piercings here (cartilage, tragus, rook, etc etc..) and as someone who has been pierced by both Ron and Mike multiple times, I can guarantee they're both very professional and great at what they do. Although I have to say Ron is slightly more outgoing where as Mike is more straightforward (purely personal opinion). I think Mike works there Sun-Tues and the rest of the time it's Ron, but I could be wrong so don't quote me on that, haha.
As for tattoos, I have been tattooed by Jen and Linda, and like other reviews say, both are awesome and worked with me until I'm 100% satisfied with everything. I did have another tattoo done at the Costa Mesa location (great place also), but I think I'll always stick with this location :).
Go see Jen Davis, she's AmaZing! I've gotten 2 tattoos from her and would trust her to do more in the future. I have confidence that anything she does will turn out to be a work of art. She's a true artist, professional and secretly an awesome baker as well (yes, her brownies are to die for)
The shop itself is clean, spacious and close to the freeway. All the staff are very on point with what they do. Book in advance for your favorite artist because they do get busy, plus it's a lifetime investment, why would you just walk in and pick something on the wall?! I showed Jen several photos of flowers I was interested in getting and she totally nailed the organic realistic feel I was going for and I believe is truly her specialty. I work at a high end salon in Newport Beach and even older or conservative ladies and gentlemen compliment my tattoos because it's so natural. I've had several people say they thought they would never get a tattoo themselves, but mine are some of the prettiest they've seen and would reconsider. I've also had hipsters in Costa Mesa actually recognize and ask if Jen did my work because she's so consistent and does an awesome job! Anyone looking for portraits, go see her as well.
I have referred several people to her and will continue to in the future. You can checkout all of Outer Limits parlors and artist at their website and view some of their work. You will be in awe when checking out Jen's work at Orange! (look up her Bob Marley portrait and her roses are gorgeous!!!)
I have been going to Outer Limits for piercing and tattoos for almost 10 years. I would never go anywhere else. The tattoo work they do is absolutely amazing. The attention to detail each artist puts into their work is perfect. I have had several artists work on me and I have never been disappointed. The prices are a bit higher than most places around but the levels of cleanliness don't compare. Walking into Outer Limits feels like walking into a doctors office. It is so clean and sterile! I do recommend everyone I know to check it out. This really is the greatest tattoo shop in Orange County.
Review Source:Went here to get my first tattoo. Mikey came up with an amazing sketch that made for a f***ing amazing tattoo. Just beautiful, really.
The staff there are just great. Genuine, fun and honest. The shop is super clean and well run.
I can honestly say that I am itching to make my next appointment.
I was tattooed here by Linda for my first tattoo! What a wonderful woman, and what a wonderful shop.
My entire family has been tattooed by Linda, and she is truly amazing. I feel like I got spoiled because she is so amazing. The shop is really really clean and impressive, everyone makes you feel so comfortable.
Being someone who loves tattoos and tattoo culture, I feel like this, or any of the Outer Limits Tattoos are a place for people who are serious about art.
Those of you complaining about prices, it seems a bit shallow. Why cheap out on something that will be on you forever?
I've had several friends get tattooed here, and I've been pierced here multiple times. Wonderful shop, clean and professional, and the people working there are amazing.
If you want a tattoo, you could go anywhere. If you want a work of art, Outer Limits is definitely the place to go. Husband and wife combo Josh and Jen are fucking incredible at their craft.
Let's talk about about piercings for a second. Ron G. is hands down one of the best people I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. I'm glad I found him - he's done my industrial and my lip ring, and he's armed with an incredible personality. He makes you feel so comfortable and at ease that you never even feel the pain of the piercing.
Long story short - great shop. Definitely worth your consideration.
I created a profile to specifically share my 2 cents about Outer Limits. Best experience ever! For my first tattoo, I wanted somewhere with a good reputation, and an artist I felt comfortable with (comfortable enough to not be afraid to speak up about the design). So after looking at L's work online I went with her. She is FANTASTIC! I went in with a rough idea, and what she sketched out was exactly what I wanted, multiplied by about a thousand.
When it came to the actual tattoo, she was super nice and really easy to talk to. I trusted her within about five minutes of meeting her. Even though it was painful, it was enjoyable because I had her (and the friend I brought) to talk me through it. Even though they are pricier than most, it was worth it for me personally. I think you have to decide for yourself on that sort of thing, whether it is worth the extra money to have that comfort and peace of mind.
Overall I was ecstatic about the whole experience, and I am in love with my tattoo. I will definitely go back in the future.
I got a tattoo from Mikey Carrasco yesterday and I couldn't be happier with it! Mikey was great! I saw his portfolio and instantly fell in love with his work and knew I had to have a skull from him. I wasn't planning on having any black and gray tattoos but had to make an exception for his work. I was pretty nervous about getting it on my foot too, but Mikey was really gentle on me and made it a really great experience! I'd recommend him to anyone!
Review Source:I've been here twice in the past couple months. They were spontaneous decisions, so I didn't have an appointment. Nonetheless, we just walked in and were helped almost immediately.
I got a frontal helix on my left ear and a cartilage on my right. For the helix, Ron Garza was my piercer, and he was great. As the only piercings I had before this was on my lobes from Claires when I was 10, I was nervous for this new experience. Ron was very nice, funny, and thorough in his explanations. What was supposedly the most painful according to one of my more piercing-experienced friends was actually relatively quick and pain-free.
However, what prevents me from giving Outer Limits 5 stars for my experience was my second encounter. This time, another person pierced my cartilage (I think his name was Mike, but I didn't get his card). He was more straightforward and direct, which my (still) nervous mind interpreted as kind of rude. However, he was still good at explaining things thoroughly (albeit quickly).
I'll probably still come here for any new piercings I desire.
So I got my second tattoo at this place and I was referred by a friend who also had his done here. Â However, I was still skeptical and went on Yelp to look it up. Â Not surprised, I saw many positive ratings for this tattoo shop and made up my mind to go and get one here.
I called and made an appointment and was given an appointment with Mike. Â When I got there, I was greeted by a really friendly girl (forgot her name), and then subsequently by Mike. Â Mike's a cool guy, a really down-to-earth dude who actually got a degree in computer graphics, but then decided he didn't wanna do art on the computer. Â
Long story short, getting the work done by Mike in 1.5 hrs was great. Â He was talkative and friendly and, at the end, I gave him a 30% tip for the great work he did. Â I will definitely come back to Mike for my next one and highly-recommend this to anyone considering a tattoo!
Yes, I've known Jen Weinstein Davis for decades (so I am kinda biased) but I love her and so does everyone else.
Jen is not only an incredibly talented & creative artist, but she is really one of the most genuine people I have ever met. I keep coming back every few months to have her add to my tattoos.
So if you're looking for an awesome tattoo - she's your gal. (But just an FYI she books up really far in advance, so you gotta plan ahead).
I've gotten 2 piercings and 2 tattoos here. Â They are outstanding. Â Jen has done both of my tattoos, one color and one black. Â I will only come here for Jen. Â I've gone to other places and they just don't compare. Â They charge by the hour, $150, but if you're going to get something really detailed I would go here and I would go to Jen.
Review Source:Went in here once as a walk-in to find out that this place is strictly by appointment only, which is understandable. Finally made an appointment and was placed randomly with Jenn Davis. What a savior. She did my boyfriends first tattoo and was soooo nice. She was super helpful, and so personable. I love when people, especially those who are modifying your body haha, actually take the time to get to know you and are downright interested in what your tattoo is about. She even wrote down the colors she used (after us going through sooo many to get them just right) before we left so that if we needed a touch up she knew which ones to use. Glad to see common sense in human form.
As far as my own tattoo, Jenn was amazing. She took everything I said and made it into exactly what I wanted. She is great at distracting you from the pain as well. :) The prices are based by the hour, which for both mine and my boyfriend's tattoo worked out to our benefit. Do some research before choosing an outer limits to go to, they have very talented artists at all of their locations.
So I just got my nose pierced yesterday by this guy who definitely knew what he was talking about. I have had my nose pierced twice before in Balboa, but it was a very quick and out the door sort of thing. I appreciate that this guy took about 20 minutes to simply inform me about the cleaning process and the do's and don'ts. My boyfriend even got worried because of how long I was in the room. Haha. I'm glad to have found a very clean, sterile place. I will definitely return for another when I decide I want a second nose piercing.
As for the tattoo work, Bumper was AMAZING when I was there in 2005. He gave me my first and only tattoo; a koi fish. I thought it was funny that he had no clue what they represented. He just tattooed them because he was good at it and it was constantly requested. Too bad he is no longer at Outer Limits. I don't think I go to Vegas enough to pay him a visit over there. Anyway, I will be back for piercings and possibly a new tattoo.
Very professional and unintimidating. Â They even let my sister eat in the break room (wouldn't want her to pass out during the tattooification) and let us make each other laugh the whole time.
I was told exactly where my tattoo should go so that it would last longer and my sister got hers redrawn about four times without complaints.
Probably the only one who is unhappy with this experience is my dad, but I guess he thinks my tat is cute enough not to disown me, like he used to threaten back in the day.
I recently just got my first tattoo done here by Jen.
Jen kicks ass. Â My new piece kicks ass. Â Jen's work is really amazing.
The facility is very clean and sterile, the people are cool and funny and will keep you entertained while you sit through hours of painful emaciation by the needle. Â
I waited something like 3 months to get my work done, and I can say that it was most certainly worth the wait.
In case anyone is wondering how much it costs, because I know I did, it's $150/hr usually.
I've gotten six piercings and one tattoo at this location by josh and ann. I love them and trust them completely. They're so good at what they do. Honestly, I should name my firstborn after this place.
If you're  going to let someone stick a giant needle into your body, you better make sure that they're clean, experienced, friendly, and talented. That's outer limits.
You'll pay a little more than other places, but if you're doing something permanent to your body, you should go somewhere a little more upscale. I'm not saying there aren't any good tattooists at grungy shops, but O. L. is a place you can guarentee good service every time.
not to mention they have a good ink color selection.
I will never go anywhere else for tattoos. Everyone I know has been tattooed here and all the artists are just amazing. I've been tattooed by Jen, Josh and Mike D. and all the work has come out beautiful and amazing. I especially like Mike...he tattooed my brother's GF and me over about an eight hour period and we laughed our asses off the entire time. He's cool as all get out.
The shop is 100% clean and all the artists are great...most of my friends get tattooed by Jen or Mike but Steve has done amazing work on my brother and a friend of mine and I've heard Linda is great as well... seriously the best place for tattoos in OC.
Easy peasy~ I just went in for a pair of Helix piercings and I was out and done before i knew it. Ron got everything set up, explained everything and had them on in two breaths. He was also listening to how to speak Italian... awesome. And Ron if you're reading this let's get that website idea of yours going haha.
Review Source:I got my first tattoo here in 98. Â Jeremiah did it. Â Havent been back since, but only because I was a high schooler at the time and since ive befriended enough equally amazing and reputable shops to not pay for the tattoos i've gotten since. If I ever wanted to spend good money on a great tat though, i'd go here. I've also recommended it many times.
Review Source:I go to Jen. She's has done two out of my four tatts. She is amazing... Her lines are so fine and perfect! My first tattoo with her was a little complicated. It was Metatron's Cube (sacred Geometry)<a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.geometrycode.com%2Fsg%2Fimages%2Fmetatrons_cube.gif&s=db04108f75587b0fdfe2e98f37e107706be229821b72e8636718cb6eff882ebb" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://www.geometrycode.…</a> Â
Her circles were so perfect that even other tattoo artist have complemented on my Metatron tattoo saying how it was done so well.. Then she did my Camille Rose Garcia "Cherry Girl" tatt.... It is as like my first rad...

She does have a waiting list so book ASAP. I unfortunately wanted a tattoo on a spur of the moment and went to Boulevard Tattoo and ended up so displeased with the dudes work...... The shop itself is located on the corner of Tustin and Chapman just right before 55 freeway. It is near some flower shop...
"I want a tattoo," is the second to last sentence that WASPy parents of a Chinkana daughter who took AP classes and graduated early from college want to hear. Â (FYI: Â "Yes, I'm pregnant, and no, I'm not getting married," is the first). Â
Fortunately for Mom & Dad, who reside in a master-planned gated community in Orange County... they never had to hear me talk about getting inked. Â *ahem*
For whatever reason, making a permanent ink design on my body had been on my mind for some time... I'd already had my navel pierced in 1998 (scandalous!) and was successfully hiding that from my folks. Â At the time, I was a corporate bad girl... So I returned to the scene of the [piercing] crime the day before Thanksgiving, 2000. Â
Let me say this in no uncertain terms: Â [Kari Barba's] Outer Limits Tattoo is the most immaculate body art establishment I have ever visited. Â I worked (and still do) in the dental field, so sterilization protocol, sanitation, OSHA compliance - these are all measures that are very near and dear to my heart. Â
I discovered that this location had been a dental practice in a former incarnation, so I was extremely comfortable. Â Everything is pristine; they don't cut corners; all of their staff hold certifications above and beyond the industry 'standard' - which is what I like to see/know when somebody is running a needle through or across my body. Â
Gloves are at every station; all of their instruments are autoclaved and intact in their packaging. Â I would lick a few ounces of Beluga caviar off the floor here without a second thought. I take that back. Â I'd be thinking: Â It sure would be nice to have some blini and creme fraiche with this beluga caviar I'm licking off the floor... but that's about it. Â
Pristine is an understatement.
Kim: Â Uhhhhh.... (flipping through folders of flash and trying not to stare at the progressive body art of all the staff) Â I... would like to get a tattoo.
Staff: Â Do you have an appointment? Â
Kim: Â Mmmmm.... no - do I need one?
Staff: Â So-and-so can do it. Â
Kim: Â Okay!
I chatted with the artist, who was older than most of the guys working there. Â I have a fetish for salt and pepper hair, so I was a bit distracted when he asked me to lift up my shirt and pull down my pants so that he could size the kanji character for my low back. Â
He was attentive, professional, and talked me through the "flinchy" moments. Â We agreed that I wanted the character to look "painted on" - replicating the whispy brush-stroke look of Japanese calligraphy, not blocky and solid. Â He did a beautiful job and I had a fabulous endorphine buzz post haste.
"That didn't take too long," he said with an easy smile. Â "Let's say... $60 bucks...?" Â I was so shocked at how inexpensive it was, I matched it with the gratuity. Â "Hey, thanks a lot," he grinned, as he shook my hand. Â
Every time I found myself driving up that desolate stretch of Tustin Avenue, I had warm thoughts about the whole tattoo experience - and since I couldn't actually SEE my ink, I decided I wanted one more. In May 2001, I called and gave my name. Â They don't keep records by client names. Â I tried to describe the artist - I wanted him to do my second kanji character.
Kim: Â He... uh, he was wearing engineer boots and jeans... and he was kind of tall. Â And he had lots of tattoos.
Staff: Â Yeah. Â That's everybody who works here. Â I don't know what to tell you...
Kim: Â Okay...He... ummmmmm... Â Well, he also... he wears an eye patch. Â
Staff: Â Well why didn't you say so in the first place? Â That's Clark. Â He'll be back in on Wednesday after 3:00pm.
Kim: Â Thank you.
I'm sure they laughed at me after the phone call ended. Â I was just just trying to be... polite. Â
And Clark did my second piece as well; it's beautiful.
A few years later, I called Outer Limits looking for another appointment with him, and was told that he'd moved to Las Vegas - that "they'd made him an offer he couldn't refuse" Â and was "working at Hart & Huntington at the Palms."
I called H&H to make an appointment and the receptionist chirped, "We don't take appointments." Â Not even if I was going to fly out to Las Vegas for a session specifically with Clark. Â
I was disappointed... but I shelved the idea, thinking I'd stop by on my next trip out to Vegas. Â Not long after that, I was half-watching some A&E show on a Jet Blue red-eye to JFK... and... WTF? Â Blue potato chips almost shot out of my nose - there he was, eye patch and all, on some show called "Inked". Â
Clark is still in Las Vegas... <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fprofile.myspace.com%2Findex.cfm%3Ffuseaction%3Duser.viewprofile%26friendid%3D19810312&s=b3c85a10a166501d4e3d23a9365f907f390495b48dfb9fa5fa39cba16c309757" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://profile.myspace.c…</a> and I still think the world of him.
I don't know Jen, but Linda Tobin did my tattoo years back. Â Looks like she still works here! Â I just told her what my idea was and she went to town. Â Great place for ink. Â I think everyone should get a tattoo. Â Ok, not everyone. Â Kinda gross to see my grandparents getting ink...
Review Source:I'll be honest, i haven't been in many tattoo shops. But I do know that I will compare any future shops i go in to this one.
The shop is always clean and the staff is always friendly.
I've gotten 4 tattoos and half sleeve here, all from the same guy (Josh), and am more than happy with the quality. I'm not sure i'd go to anyone else, except maybe his wife (Jen) for a portrait.
They're also very good for piercings. my gf has gotten 2 here and has been happy with both of them.
Definitely highly recommended. I've never seen any of their artists do anything but extremely high quality work.
you can see Josh's work on my and my friends here: <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.flickr.com%2Fphotos%2Fflippedcracker%2Fsets%2F72157594218220768%2F&s=adabe2dffb86b4044ed6c77d87ed899e06f4f21890ca7d59e840ada3531c783b" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://www.flickr.com/ph…</a>
So I can only put this very, very simply:
If you let anyone else put ink in your body besides Jen, or maybe her husband who also works here, and you live within any reasonable distance of Orange, CA,
you are a freaking idiot.
I have five tattoos by her (and she's at least the 5th person to tattoo me, and definitely the best): a solid band, two tribals, a photo-realistic portrait, and a wood-carving style design. She absolutely rocked on designing and executing all of them, and she's as picky about placement as I am, and her shading is just...holy jesus. (She wouldn't want me to say this, because she hates doing this kind of work, but two of them were cover-ups, and she has god-like powers of transformation.)
I get complimented at least twice a day (I'm not exaggerating) on her work. Friends of mine who generally hate tattoos as a rule (including my older tattoos) love her work on me, because it's freaking art, like nothing they've ever seen before.
Also, she's hella nice, and cute, and funny, and fun to talk to, and gentle (least painful tattoo experiences ever). I moved to New York but I'm still going to fly back to California to get tattooed by her rather than let some chump here ink my body permanently...this is how awesome Jen is.
i went down to anaheim today to visit one of my dearest friends.
of course after a mediocre meal at california pizza kitchen (i don't even want to bother with a review of that place) we were pondering what to do for the next 3 hours before i had to head back up to LA.
us driving in the car....
me: "hey, so you want to go to barnes or something?
s. c: "yea, whatever i don't care"
me: "you want to get a tattoo over there?" (pointing to kari's)
s.c: "yea, whatever i don't care"
me: "cool" (pull in)
first thing i see when i walk in? a HOT half naked man with his pants halfway down his ass bent over getting a tatt of a flower.
???
anyways, i wanted to add to the tatt i have on my lower back because it's getting lonely and the staff here were incredibly helpful picking out diff. designs and even drawing some one of a kind designs for me.
in the end i declined because i wanted to wait until after i went home for the holidays (don't want my mom to karate chop my ass) to get another one.
but thank you outer limits for showing an asian girl some love.
def will be back for the next ink injection :)
