My sister was in town for a short visit and after my delayed search for a shop (her first tattoo! my fourth) - we were out of options near Aurora. We called this place on our way to DeKalb and they said they weren't busy, we could walk in and get tattooed.
20 minutes later, we walk in and an artist sitting at the desk said they were booked - they don't normally take walk-ins. We left a little disappointed, as she was leaving town the next day and we had no idea why we were told we could come in and then be turned away at the door.
However - the boyfriend spoke with Chris (the owner?) and he said to come back in an hour. We did. He did her tattoo and it turned out BEAUTIFUL. Solid black image. Mine was color, a little bigger. Our prices were unbelievably reasonable, the talent was amazing and we're going to Chris anytime we want a tattoo. All around nice place, very clean and they made up for the poor first impression.
After reading several reviews about Proton Tattoo out in Dekalb I decided to try it out for a piece I designed and wanted tattooed on my foot. Â The studio looks nice but the service I got there when I arrived was sub-par. Â I walked in around 3pm on a Saturday and the place was completely deserted. Â The gentleman sitting at the desk was eating and acted like my husband and I were disturbing him for coming in and asking about pricing for a couple of tattoos. Â And on that subject, the pricing was OUTRAGEOUS! Â I brought in a 4x4 piece that was a bit larger and had several shades of green. Â figuring that might be a bit expensive I also brought a much smaller clover tattoo in one color. Â The prices he quoted me made my jaw drop. Â First, now I think I know why the place was completely empty. Â Second, I figure he might have been quoting such a high price so he could go back to eating. Â This is NOT my first go-around as I already have 4 tattoos but compared to all my other experiences at other places this guy was completely rude and I will never consider their tattoo shop in the future.

My fiancee got a beautiful chest piece done at Proton. Â The folks there are amazing at what they do and super nice. Â There's some flash on the wall, but they specialize in custom work. Â Their studio is a little cramped, but they're starting up and their talent makes up for it. Â So, go get some ink done at Proton so they can get a bigger place!
