Recently had the opportunity of being tattooed by one of if not the greatest realism tattooist in the country. I live in Pittsburgh and I started looking for the right artist a couple years ago. Doing extensive research everything I found pointed me to Deano Cook from Psycho Tattoo in Marietta Georgia.
I've been in business for 20 years in antiques and fine arts, being in that field I wasn't going to settle for anything but the best. I made my appointment with Omeed which was truly professional. It took a couple months for them to fit me in the the schedule being that I was traveling from Pittsburgh and needed to mesh both theirs and my schedules. Being this was my first tattoo and I'm 46 yrs. old I was scheduled for a 2 days. I arrived at Psycho Tattoo and was impressed of the professionalism of the staff and the cleanliness of the studio. Deano Cook gave me all the time I needed and all of his extensive expertise. Nothing was rushed or hurried and showed me 100s of photographs that he personally took looking at the movement and placement of tattoo was as important as the tattoo itself. All these hours were on his time. He even took the work home the first night and did it at home so we were not rushed the next day. With his light hand and finesse of the tattoo gun it was more like an extension of his hand. At the end of the 2nd day it was nowhere as painful as everyone said. His line work is nothing like I could have imagined. We never discussed how long it would take to be completed. You can't rush perfection. The details and the care took precedence over everything else.
While I was there for 2 days. I realized that Deano was not only a fantastic tattooist he was equally a fantastic artist and underwater photographer.
Yes, it was pricey for the flight, hotel , rental car and everything to get there and stay but how do you put a price on something that you are putting on your body for the rest of your life? It was worth every penny I spent. I have more work to be completed in the near future.
Not saying that I don't have great tattooist in our area or I flew over 1,000 shops on the way to Psycho Tattoo but for what I wanted Deano was the only one I would have let tattoo me. I wouldn't settle for 2nd best. I am writing this so people do their homework. It's a decision that you have with you for the rest of your life so make a wise choice.
I also brought a friend with me that also got a large back piece from Rob Thomas. He gave my friend a great tattoo.
A bad tattoo people never discuss. On my way back  in the airport I had many people stop me and ask me where I got such great work done. I knew I had made the right decision.
Recently, I took my 18 year old daughter by Psycho Tattoo to get a piercing. The staff at Psycho Tattoo was very professional and thorough. The guy who did my daughter's piercing was Aarahm. He's a cool guy. He explained everything from what to expect and the aftercare which I really appreciated. Their prices are reasonable as well. Highly recommended.
Review Source:I just moved to the area and I decided to walk in and check out the shop: left with some touch-up work done on my chest piece. Turns out the guy that did it, Eric, just moved from the same small town I grew up in in Florida, DeBary. Small world, eh?
Anyways the shop is really cool, great vibe, very artistic in there. Eric was great, touched up my line work and added some shading. Great price, great conversation about my home town.
I would highly recommend them. I'm going to go back there, for sure. Check them out!
Who couldn't love a place called Psycho Tattoo?? Â When I decided to get my newest piercing after moving to Atlanta, I consulted the Creative Loafing "Best Of " lists - and Psycho Tattoo was listed. Â I didn't know anyone else that I could ask for a recommendation, so I let the people of Atlanta who voted be my guide.
I'm so glad I did! Â I had my navel pierced back in 2003 and they did a super job! Â I was a bit nervous about it since my roommate in college had hers done - and it was nasty, infected and UGLY. Â The guy working (sorry, I don't remember his name - it has been 6 years) was fabulous!!! Â They were very clean, sanitary, disinfected everything. Â He had me lay down on the table and marked it with a marker so it was lined up straight, and 30 seconds later, he was done! Â No pain at all, I didn't even feel it! Â
They gave me very detailed instructions on how to keep the new piercing clean and free from infection. Â I did follow it to a tee, and did not have any problems what so ever. Â
Then when I decided to get my first tat in 2007, I already knew where I was going to go! Â I took in my own design - one that I had picked out years and years before (and still liked after 10 years, so I knew it was exactly what I wanted). Â I walked in expecting them to do it that day - and they were booked up! Â I had to make an appointment for the following weekend. Â Who knew they'd be that busy!! Â
I liked that the artist talked to me about my choice, asked why I had picked it (it's the Kanji for "Libra") - he did a quick stencil on my shoulder to see if it was exactly where I wanted it and as large as I wanted it -- we moved it down a little bit. Â He prepped the entire area, again sterilized and sanitized my skin. Â 4 minutes later - he was done! Â I was impressed with how quickly he completed it (but in all fairness, it is only about 3" long and 1" tall). Â
The staff is great, the artwork of all of the artists is beautiful, but you definitely need to talk to the artists and see a sample of their work so you know if you like their style. Â They have tons of albums of each artists work to browse through, and they are very open to you bringing in your own designs. Â
I already have my next two chosen, and I know exactly where I'll be having them done! Â Psycho Tattoo in Marietta!
The best shop to go to OTP. I have gotten a tattoo and a piercing at this location and have had many friends do the same. Â The shop is located very close to the big chicken and you cant miss the bright green "psycho tattoo" sign. Â The people that work at this store are nice and very knowledgeable. Â They take the time to discuss everything with you to make sure you know exactly what you are getting and how to care for it. Â Â They also have their portfolios sitting out in the waiting room so you can go through each artists' book and see which one has the style that you are looking for. Â Great shop. Â Reliable work.
