I had the strongest urge to spontaneously get a tattoo last fall. I wanted to do it only that day, and no other day. I checked every place in town. One place was closed. Another said they'd call me back by an hour and they never did. Fate brought me here.
I came here and although there was only one person (George) working with a busy appointment book, he still managed to fill me in (literally).
I got my tattoo done on my side/ribs. The outline was huge and I decided to not get it shaded as originally discussed. I was amateur and super squirmish. He was always patient with me. THANK YOU.
1 more month and it will be a year since I've got my tattoo done, and I have no regrets whatsoever.
So I got my first tattoo here 3 weeks ago and I'm so glad I got it here. I walked in without making an appt because it was a little spur or the moment kind of thing. I had to wait for maybe 25 minutes but that was understandable because I was a walk-in. There were only 2 tattoo artists there but both were friendly and talking to their clients. When it was my turn, I showed Sergio what I wanted. The concept of my tattoo was a little confusing so the first stencil he drew wasn't exactly what I wanted but he listened to what I wanted again and the second stencil was perfect! Even better than what I imagined. So, then came the tattooing. Sergio asked me if this was my first time and I said yes. He said he'll start with the smaller lines to let me get a hang of how it felt. Even though I was being a little bit of a baby, he was encouraging and nice. He kept saying that I was doing great and that the hard parts were almost over. Sergio also took a lot of breaks to let me take a couple of deep breaths because my tattoo was on the side of my ribcage. After the tattooing was done, he told me how to take care of it and told me if I had any questions or problems or needed touching up, I can just call or come by. Overall I got great service and an awesome tattoo all for the price of $100! Definitely coming back here for my next tattoo!
Review Source:This is the ONLY spot I will go for clean, creative and professional artwork. Â George, a SF State art grad, is highly qualified and my husband and I are continually amazed at all of his art. Â
This is not your typical snooty tatt shop, all the guys working there are friendly and professional. Â I am heading back next month for more!
Mike "the destroyer" [just kidding!] is new, and he is awesome!! He spent the time to draw out a script tattoo for me, and added his own flair which I loved. He was super nice and talented, and didn't mind when my friends were playing paparazzi and documenting every moment. (=
The price is right, the artists are friendly and talented, the place looks clean and inviting..I think I found the place to recommend everyone to go to in Davis.
I just got my first tattoo from George at Sacred Tiger two days ago and I couldn't be happier! Â I brought him a rough design of what I wanted and he returned with one that was 10 times better than I could have imagined. Â
The ambiance is really creative and low-key. Â George was really engaging and his calm demeanor helped alleviate any nervousness I had. Â His shop was super, SUPER clean and sterile and he went to great extents to keep my skin clean and germ free.
George was recommended to me by a friend who's had multiple tattoos done by him and I've been admiring his work second-hand for some time now. Â You're going to want to plan ahead for your session a bit because George can be booked out a while. Â I waited six weeks (but there were two appointments during that time that didn't fit my schedule). That a mark of a good and in demand tattoo artist, I think.
He has a second artist working at the shop too, so it worth your time to head over there to meet them and feel the vibe.
I have nothing but great things to say about my whole experience and when I'm ready for my second tattoo I'm going to give George a call.
Sacred Tiger is a tattoo shop in Davis, California, opened in 2010 by George Hernandez.
The best thing I can say about George is that he's been my trusted tattooer for several years now. I met him years ago when he was working at Folsom City Ink. He tattooed my entire chest and sleeved both my arms. For several years, I had monthly appointments, and we just kept going. Even though I've moved away from the Sacramento area to San Francisco, I still go up to Sacred Tiger Tattoo to get tattooed by George.
George's new shop is great. It's a bit off the beaten path just outside of downtown Davis, but a nice setting. The shop is small, but well-designed and thoughtfully laid out. George is of course very serious about cleanliness and sterilization, as any good tattooer would be.
George is a font of knowledge in the areas of traditional Japanese and American tattooing, but he's also comfortable breaking out of these traditions and getting very creative. The work he's done on me is mostly based on traditional Japanese styles but with lots of weirdness thrown in. It's beautiful work - bold designs with striking colors. You can see my sleeves and chest in the gallery at http://www.sacredtiger.n… - no, I'm not gonna tell you which ones are me. ;)
I enthusiastically recommend George Hernandez and Sacred Tiger Tattoo.
Note: I chose "pricey" not because George is particularly expensive - I don't think he is - but because good tattoos are expensive - as they should be.
