I decided to get my tongue repierced for my birthday and found Somatic on yelp with good reviews and for a good reason. I worked with Sarah and she was AMAZING. Her first concern with my health, she took her time in checking out my tongue to make sure it didn't have scar tissue and that it was safe to pierce once again. After she was convinced everything was okay she went on with the piercing. Now, like I said before I've been through this process once before so I wasnt freaking out but if I was Sarah would have definitely put my mind at ease. She was patient and talk to me the whole entire time while she was pircing my tongue to make sure I was breathing and I was conscious the whole time she's very quick with the piercing and before i knew it, it was over. In 3 weeks I am scheduled to go in for a downsizing because the first bar they put in is abnormally long for swelling.  They do this for FREE and put the new bar in for you. If you are looking for a piercing definitely visit them at Somatic, they're clean, professional, and extremely friendly. THANK YOU SARAH!!!!!

This place is awesome! Went in and got my nipples pierced, they are healing beautifully by the way. Sara really knows what she is doing & I completely trusted her. Place is clean, staff is friendly, & this place flowed with good vibes. Sara did a great job at making me feel relaxed and comfortable. Was in-and-out in less than 20 minutes. Shop is pricey but you get what you pay for & I was definitely happy to do so. The shop jewelery was extremely cute. I will be definitely come back here again & again.

FANTASTIC. Everything about this shop is so on point. I'd only decided to come here after searching through Yelp for piercing parlors, and this place was definitely it! I called in a day before with questions, and they were SO helpful in answering them. Didn't matter that I wasn't a customer yet; they took the time to respond to every question, and suggested I call back if I needed ANYTHING else.

When in doubt, go with your gut. I knew Somatic was the place to go for my nose piercing. Sara was absolutely amazing. She made me feel so much better throughout the process, answered every question thoroughly, and was super quick and professional about the entire thing. They also supplied me with plenty of sea salt for the soak they recommend, and, again, urged that I call or email them if I needed anything. If that's not customer service, then I don't know what is. I definitely plan on coming back here to get my septum pierced in a few months!

So I decided to finally write a review after having a second amazing experience here! About a month or so ago I got my forward helix done and absolutely loved it as well as my piercer Ericka! I decided I wanted my conch pierced too and went in yesterday and although it was not her normal day Ericka was there again! Her and Elise made me feel so comfortable both times and they explain absolutely everything so there is no guess work! I have had my belly button, Monroe and lobes pierced and Ericka was by far the most relaxing and caring piercer I've ever had! They both were so easy to talk to and have a vast knowledge of their profession. Elise gave me her opinion on jewelry while i was picking it out and I couldn't be happier that I listened to her! they really know what they are doing!! Also, my friend went with me both times and also got piercings both times. She was extremely nervous but Ericka soothed her nerves and made both experiences so great that were both thinking about getting something else done! Although it seems a little bit pricey at first glance, I've called other reputable places and they are about the same PLUS 1) the jewelry is something that is going to be in your body for a while 2) the jewelry is going into an open wound so I want it to be the best there is regardless of price 3) your paying for their amazing expertise and kindness you won't get many other places! So I guess what in trying to say is the price shouldn't be an issue if this is something your serious about! Needless to say I love it here and will only go here for the remainder of my piercings!!

Was looking around the Long Beach area for a shop that would be able to remove a few piercings on my girlfriends ears, and came across Somatic. Sarah was working the shop when we walked in, she was helping someone else but greeted us and told us that she would be with us shortly. Once she was finished she happily helped us and was very informative about the type of jewelry that was being removed. She made great chit chat making us feel right at home. When I asked about types of piercings as well as some of the details of the shop I was giving examples and recommendations on which person to see in the shop. She showed us the jewelry at our request and even pulled out the pricing guides to help our decisions. While the piercing was being removed I was able to walk around the shop. It is quite small but the environment is a lot to take in, the overall theme seem to fall in the Hindu-ish as well as some modern touches. They have small displays everywhere with models/pictures of types of piercings, as well as jewelry. Much if not all of the jewelry displayed was handmade and was absolutely gorgeous! With the friendly and knowledgeable staff and pleasant surroundings I will definitely go back. I did have one complaint which wasn't with the shop as much as it was with the location, parking was tricky since it's in the side of a building (with a bus stop in front), the closest parking lot is around the corner but quite small and the maze to leave is not much better.

Overpriced! I went in looking for basic barbells since my barbell had fallen out, but they only had two bar sizes which were pretty big and only ONE bead size, which was also very big. So one barbell would have ended up being $35 and another $5 for her to help put it in. I checked out another piercing place and he ended up NOT charging me for helping me tapering it in. So all I payed for was the jewelry he put in, which was $15 all together. Oh, and they had plenty of barbell shapes and sizes. Compare $40 to $15.

Very professional, clean and friendly piercing shop. Rad jewelry I truly wish they had more on display.  I drop about $130.00 for a 3 new sets of plugs and stretching. I've been to Somatic about 30 times with a great experience each time. I would buy way more there if they had more jewelry on display.

I was thinking about getting either a frenulum or a septum piercing yesterday, so I walked into Somatic after a recommendation from a friend. As soon as I walked in I was given great information about the pros and cons of both, and decided to go with my septum. Sara was the piercer, and she was awesome right off the bat. I was being pretty quiet the whole time because I was totally nervous about the pain, but she was great at making me feel as comfortable as I could. The actual piercing was very quick and painless, and I am very happy with the result. Being new to the area, I am just happy that I found a great shop for my future piercings!

P.S. Boys, do not be scared of wearing a princess cut diamond.

I visited Somatic Body Piercing yesterday and had an amazing experience!!

For a couple of months I had thought about getting a genital piercing.  My BF knew of Somatic and recommended it.  So yesterday he and I went to Somatic so I could see the place and get a few questions answered.  Somatic is a small yet elegantly decorated shop in Long Beach.  Parking is available behind the building or along the street.

Upon arriving at Somatic we met Sara and she was extremely nice and informative!!  Looking through Sara's background in an album on the front counter, reveals that she is highly credentialed and has attained numerous certificates in the piercing profession.  Sara is serious about her profession yet lighthearted, easily engaging and has a funny sense of humor.  After spending a bit of time with Sara, my BF and I briefly stepped outside so I could decide whether today was the day to get the piercing done.  It was a quick and easy decision -- YES!  My BF was so sweet and actually held my hand while having the piercing done :).  Sara showed me all of the freshly packaged and sterilized tools she would be using to do my piercing and explained the piercing procedure thoroughly.  She wore gloves and a mask to ensure a hygienic environment.  Sara was meticulous with her placement of the piercing by marking the piercing spot with a pen first then asked if I was happy with where she would be piercing me.  As previously instructed, when she was ready to pierce me she warned me first.  With a quick 'ouch' my piercing was complete and Sara was placing the jewelry on.  Sara reviewed very clearly and carefully my aftercare instructions and within a few minutes my BF and I were saying farewell.

I am still beaming with excitement after 24 hours.  I realize I have a couple of weeks of salt water soaks to undergo ... but I am overjoyed with my piercing and my experience at Somatic.  If you are considering a piercing, visit Somatic ... it's well worth the drive!

Now that my piercing is healed. I feel like I can do this review.

First of all, the staff was nice, my pierce-r was nice, the store is really nice and they play decent rockish music. I love the vibe and the jewelry displayed around the store.

The place was clean and i didnt worry about catching something here.

I got my lobe pierced at a 4g and it hurt a lot.

She was nice and re-positioned the mark twice before going in and doing it. Though initially pleased, i should have gotten it a bit further back. I can wear dangle earrings and hoops, but not huge studs. I can probably work it out somehow, i haven;t tested it. But it still needed to be said.

I paid upfront, got good info on aftercare and everything.

    why only 4 stars?

The fucking price. The piercing and jewelry came out to 50 bucks. 25 for the jewelry and another to pierce. Dafuq? 25 bucks for something that got bleed and crusties on? That seems ridiculousness. If you have the cash and don't care, check this place out. If you wanna save a buck, try another place.

I do recommend this place though!

I was disappointed.  My 16 year old daughter and her friend wanted an additional ear piercing.  Since they both already have one set of piercings and a cartilage piercing each, this wasn't something we rushed into.  We talked about it considerably.  After deciding that they  could get another pair, my daughter asked if I would take them on a weekend before Christmas and I told her I would if she could find a place in Long Beach because my schedule was tight and I didn't want to drive all the way to Venice Beach where we got their prior piercings done.  She came up with Somatic and I was pleased because it was near Babcooke & Cooke where my friend and I planned to do some Christmas shopping.  I walked the girls in to the shop and was surprised that the lady who greeted us refused to do the piercings without my girls' birth certificates.  We all had CA IDs that showed the same name and address for me and my daughter, and I had consent from her friend's mother.  The lady checked our IDs but refused to serve us without the birth certificates.  Well who walks around with their children's birth certificates on hand?  I wasn't trying to take these girls across the border, just get their ears pierced somewhere other than Claire's at the mall.

Taking themselves a wee bit too seriously, I think.

I've been to Somatic on 3 separate occasions, and can safely say I won't be going back again.  I first got my ears pierced in Venice Beach, and decided several months later to go to Somatic to get my piercing stretched, and bought plug earrings from them... they were competent and sanitary, and did a good job.  When I returned a few months later, I ordered a set of niobium hoops to replace the plugs... they had to order them, and it took a couple of months, and what I got wasn't what was described to me (they said the beads would be soft and pliable, making it easier to take off / put on, but they weren't)... I should have complained more but finally just gave in.  That brings us to today, when I went in with the old (surgical, stainless) hoops I had from getting my ears pierced in Venice.  The person working out front took them back to the girl who does the piercings, and came back saying she won't put in anything they don't sell, but they will sell me a pair of hoops for $30!

I don't know if they are worried about liability, but surely they have a form I can sign to waive them of liability... I had these hoops in for several months, and I know they are top quality.  My guess is they just want more money than they can get out of just doing the piercing.  Regardless, I was offended that the woman doing the piercings didn't even come out to discuss it with me... classless.  I'll be finding  somewhere else to get my piercings done.

I went in today to get my nipple pierced and Sara was working.

I was a little nervous to do it since I heard it hurt like a b**** but was pleasantly surprised at how painless it was. Sara was super helpful and friendly and the process from start to finish was fast and easy. I felt really comfortable and didn't even know she had put the needle through after she had already done it! The entire event from paperwork to prep to walking out the door took about 10-15 minutes. I've had my nostril, septum, tragus, and naval pierced and this was easily the least painful piercing I've had.

It was $60 for the piercing (includes jewelry). Very reasonable.

Sara correctly predicted that I'd be back in no time for my second nipple piercing, and I will be! Thanks for your help and for putting me at ease!

Amazing experience. I went to get a PA and the expertise these women had blew me away. They were professional and highly informative. They explained why will happen before during and after along with excellent aftercare instructions with an invite to come back anytime for free sea salt or for them to look at it if any issues. Sarah, my piercer, was kind and funny mixed with expertise and professionalism.

Somatic, Somatic, Somatic...hmmm what can I say. Well I went a couple of years back to get my lip (monroe) pierced. A friend recommended it because she doesn't like shady places. SOOOOO The piercers where cool. But the jewelry is MAD EXPENSIVE. Seriously?  Almost 20 bucks for a labret. WTF???  My friend went to get her nose redone and wanted a hoop. They fed her the bullshit, That hoops don't heal properly....Yeeeaaahhhhh whatever you say lady. Anyways We had an OK experience. Nothing to rant and rave about. They are extremely clean. But 80 bucks total for my Monroe....SORRY BOO I'M NOT BALLIN LIKE THAT.

I'm going to cut to the chase - I was looking for a place to get my genitals pierced (hafada) and didn't really know where to begin. After reading Corey's review for his genital piercing, I knew this was the place.

I had been here before and was familiar with the experience. Sara, my piercer, provided the best service and exceeded my expectations. I came in thirty minutes after they opened (noon) and got all my questions answered. She was calm, patient, and helped me relax.

The piercing room is private, and she cleaned all of the tools in front of me. She even changed her gloves multiple times. She was in no rush to get me out, she was patient with me and made sure that I was happy with placement, size, and that I understood the healing process.

I definitely want to come back for my septum piercing.

Genital piercings are $100 and prices for jewelry vary depending gauge size and style.

Keep an eye out, occasionally they'll have specials!

I got my nostril pierced two days ago at Somatic and I loved it. The shop is really cute, clean, and easy to find. Parking is usually fine if you go during the day but because it's street parking I'm sure you'll have to do a little work finding some in the evening. I was pierced by Sara who is a total sweetheart. She talked me through the entire procedure and did a great job explaining after care. You will be given sea salt with your piercing and if you ever run out, just go back to the shop and they'll give you more for FREE! As far as pricing it's pretty standard. The piercing itself isn't what costs, it's the jewelry you decide on. I highly recommend this place for anyone looking to get a great piercing by someone who knows what they're doing and will explain everything and answer any Q's you may have. I love Somatic!!

This place is great. I started getting pierced when I was 15 and have seen all sorts of places, but I have to say I'm in love with what Somatic is doing. I've been pierced there 4 times by 3 different people, and havent gone anywhere else since my first time. I even took my 50+ year old aunt here, who wanted a tragus piercing after seeing the one I had done at somatic. She had no complaints!

The shop is beautiful, and they have an extensive display of available jewelry for sale too; lots of nice quality and unique designs. They are all experienced and I've never had any issues with their techniques. They also provide the BEST form of aftercare, definitely do the salt soak if you get pierced here--it actually works and is the best for healing that I have ever used!!

I was told that they consider themselves as specializing in piercings, so they're not combined with a tattoo shop and they don't do dermals because of the technique used--which sucks, because now I have to find another place to go for my next project :( I'll definitely be back to Somatic though--true quality!

Thank you Sara for the lovely new hole in my septum & my first professional body piercing!
Somatic has the most professional piercers and I've heard countless complaints from others who have gotten piercings done at other parlors and theirs turned out swollen or "hurt like hell" immediately after. My septum didn't feel a thing after Sara pierced it and she was so professional about it. Sara told me everything she was going to do before she did it so there were no surprises. The procedure itself took no time at all & I didn't even tear up!
The girls put up with my repetitive questions & patience and I appreciate every second of it because I definitely was reassured with how everything worked.
They are extremely careful and clean about their services & I would definitely recommend them to anyone. I found them through Yelp & I'm so glad I did!

Went here today to look for septum jewelry at the suggestion of my boyfriend.  The girls there were extremely helpful and they carry very beautiful jewelry.

The only reason I gave them 4 stars is because I feel they are a little pricey.  But I still paid the price!  Would definitely go back for any future needs or piercings.

Reasons why I am giving Somatic 5 stars:
    1. I have been to a few piercers and none were as professional as these ladies.
    2. Everything was very clean
    3. The vibe inside is AWESOME, you will know what I mean when you go
    4. The price for my nose piercing was reasonable
    5. The after care they provide is great
    6. They leave themselves open for any questions or complications you have further down the road.
    7. The jewelry they have is great and different from most places I have seen

The two people who helped me here a couple of years ago were rude and condescending. They told me that I couldn't get an industrial piercing because my ear flap was too big. I had it done elsewhere a few months later and they gave me no problem. I ended up getting my tragus pierced instead because I was told that I would never be able to get the industrial. The woman who pierced it put this dinky stud in when I told her I wanted a ring. I was told that it wouldn't heal right if a ring was put in, but it actually healed a lot faster after I lost the stud and replaced it with a ring. Whether or not this was misinformation, it was not a comfortable experience and I'll definitely go elsewhere for my next piercing.

Maybe things have changed since then. It might depend on who you get.

Despite everything, though, I can say with confidence that they did everything safely and carefully. All-in-all, my ear healed nicely and I still have the piercing.

Alright SO, I was a little hesitant to write a review for Somatic, because I've really had a mixed experience with the place. the piercing is great, the receptionist is just really rude.

I was recommended Somatic by the most amazing piercer I was going to in Northern California when I told him that I was going to be visiting Long Beach and anticipated getting a piercing while there.

So, my boyfriend and I went into Somatic on a Saturday to get our septums pierced. We were pierced by Jill, who is as talented and amazing as she is cool. She made the already simple piercing even easier. If my entire Somatic experience were only with Jill, this would be a 5-star review. However, the girl who works at the counter was a little bit rude to me but totally polite to my boyfriend. I mentioned it later to my boyfriend, who said he hadn't noticed. I shrugged the notion and went on with my life, merrily referring people to Somatic.

When my visit to LB was over I had to return to Norcal where my septum piercing began to migrate down, opening up and leaking a lot of lymph, one morning I woke up and after the sea salt soak the jewelry slipped through my piercing (balls and all). I sanitized the jewelry and tried to put it back in to no avail, the piercing was rejecting. I called and spoke to Sara, she told me to leave the jewelry out and to come into Somatic the next time I was in town.

It was about a month before I was in LB again, obviously the hole was closed and I needed to be re-pierced. Jill was once again AMAZING, the piercing was PAINLESS and she pierced in a different spot in my septum and gave me different jewelry since the old circular barbell could not be flipped up and was a little tight fitting.  BUT AGAIN! The receptionist (elise?) was SO RUDE! She treated me and every other client that came in like we were wasting her time, or interrupting some insanely important task by asking questions about jewelry or procedures. As i was waiting I even complimented her shirt(which was awesome) and she snapped back a short response at me...rude enough to make my boyfriend raise his eyebrows at me!

Normally I don't have problems like this at piercing studios or tattoo shops, and nothing is more upsetting than dropping a bunch of money on a piercing at a place where the people who work there are rude or too cool to just be friendly...to everyone.

Gosh I want to like this place. I really do. But I've given them SO many chances, and alas, they keep disappointing me.

Rather than writing a 50-page review as to why I will never go here again, I figure I'll try to some up my multiple experiences with bullet points:

-Decent piercings, but jewelry is very expensive (!!!)

-If you try to use your own jewelry, they will shun you and lecture you, and force you to buy theirs.

-Needed to get my naval re-pierced and they REFUSED, unless I bought their "emu oil". Used the oil for 3 months, they still refused to re-pierce it. WTF? Went to a different piercing shop and they did it for me, no problem.

-Asked if I could use my own tea tree oil on my tragus to reduce a "bump", they said NO, unless I ordered "special" tea tree oil though them. I went home and used my own anyway, and the bump disappeared.

-They told me to soak my ear piercings with a "shot glass" filled with saline solution. Um WRONG. Bad idea. Water went into my ear canal and I ended up getting an inner ear infection. The piercing shop I go to now said to just use a cotton ball! This place forbid me to use cotton balls because the fibers might get stuck to the jewelry, but that is seriously impossible when the cotton ball is wet.

-They refused to put the backing of my tragus piercing back on for me when it fell out, because it was 25 minutes before they closed. Well, thanks guys, because the whole thing ended up falling out and I had to get it re-pierced somewhere else (glad I did, too.)

The girls here are often irritable, but at least they do an okay job at piercings. I just think their intentions are wrong, but they act like they are always right. I will be going instead to Big Daddy's Tattoo & Piercing. Very nice and knowledgeable people there!

    1. Parking - This place has horrible parking. Luckily, I got luck both times I came here. Right in front too. ;)

    2. Vibe - I like it. It was smaller than I expected! But who cares, all I care about is the quality & service! They have multiple jewelry to chose from.

    3. Service - The service is great! The first time I went I got my lip pierced! :) Sara was my piercer. x) I feel bad, I must have taken a good 15 minutes bracing myself for it. I hate needles. :| But she was really patient and let me know everything she was doing!

    4. Supplies - They have so many choices for jewelry, I love it! For my lip I got an opal stud, it's so pretty! The second time I went there (like a week later) I got my jewelry changed to a  black ring. I LOVE IT! I love love love black clothes, jewelry, purses, shoes. :) I think I should have waited to change it though, as my lip is hurting worse than the first week I got it done HAHA. :(

    5. Star - Five stars because the service is fantastic! Everyone in there is so helpful and I don't mind spending my paycheck here! :) YAY!

Pricing- reasonably and on parr with industry standards, including jewelry pricing.

I moved away from the LB area, yet I will still come all the way over here for my jewelry when I need it. Parking is HORRIBLE so prepare to spend some time driving around looking for street parking depending on what time and day you visit. Friend them on Facebook so you can find out about Happy Hour piercing and/or specials for the day. They are pretty good about updating it. Happy holes! =P

Major thanks to Sara to being a BOSS and piercing my helix (x2), and most of all, instilling major confidence in me. As I told her when I first walked in, I was "new", and she was fabulous. I had confidence in her right away, and she was completely and totally professional as she walked me through jewelry and after-care.

The piercing itself was a shock, but I would seriously hesitate to call it painful. Inserting the CBRs, now, that I would call painful. But Sara was awesome again, and told me that sometimes putting the ring in hurt more than the piercing, which was TOTALLY what happened in my case.

In my adrenaline/pain-rush post-piercing, I totally forgot to tip her, even though I told myself to remember as I was sitting down on the table (how quickly we forget), but if I ever return, I will definitely remember. I imagine that all the piercers here do the same great, clean, professional and friendly work that Sara did.

All told, my double helix and plain steel CBRs ran $90. Honestly, I wouldn't hesitate to say it was worth it for the level of comfort and confidence I experienced at Somatic. I love my new piercings, I think they look AMAZING, and I am a huge, huge fan of Sara and Somatic.

After letting my mall-piercing-gun-done holes heal for about a year, I stopped in Somatic tonight for a re-pierce with a proper needle.

Sara was very friendly and helpful!  I went in and didn't have to wait any longer than to pick out my jewelry, sign my waivers and get talked through simple aftercare.

The piercing process was made much easier with friendly conversation.

This place is CLEAN.  I think Sara changed her gloves like three or four times while she was piercing me.  I will definitely come back, be it for additional holes, jewelry or if I decide to stretch bigger.

    THANK YOU, GUYS!

I had my septum and my tragus pierced here and have had no issues with either. Also when you purchase new jewelry from them to downsize after healing, they will put it in often free of charge.

Friend them on facebook and get the heads up on discounts and specials.. i.e. two for one and discounts on service with purchase of jewelry.

I came in once to get my lip pierced and my buddy got her nostril done.

They have some wicked jewelry! I fell in love with the opals. They glisten iridescently but damn, the most expensive I've seen at a small shop. I believe I forked over $60 for a lip and my friend paid $80 for her nostril.

I'm always nervous when I go into piercing shops but these guys know how to handle the scaredy cats and all. They suggested and stood by only piercing my lip with a stud and not a ring. Came out with wisdom knowing that studs heal more correctly than rings. Cool. It healed just fine with the packet of sea salt they gave me.

Only thing that was different was the process to fill out the paperwork for them to pierce you. I remember one of the questions asking if you had taken aspirin (blood thinner)..so remember not to take that if you're planning on stopping by. It's all for safety but it took longer than usual. The anticipation was killing me to get everything done immediately but I found myself twiddling my fingers for a while.

I enjoyed the experience though. If you can eat after your visit, go next door to Coco-Renos. :)

The staff here is very professional and straight up with you. The woman who greeted us was a little irritated but i think she may have been tired as we walked in right in the morning :P

However after me and my friend decided what piercing we wanted we were handed over to a guy for explanation and jewelry selection and introduced to our amazing piercer.

The piercer was this cute girl and she was very soothing during the whole process of getting a tragus piercing and a nose piercing for my Friend.

only complaint is that they would NOT let me use the jewelry i brought in because it was gold and they do not pierce with anything but surgical steel. I am allergic to anything but gold as i have been since i was a baby (the fact that i have five other piercings and the lady still argued with me about my own body! was outrageous!) This is why i give them an okay. I would have signed off on my jewelry had they even given me an option.

Alright experience but i have had better.

This place is absolutely amazing.  They are so professional and very knowledgeable.  They are my go to place for any questions or considers I would have about anything.  I take all my friends here if for all their piercings as well.  Personally, I have gone here to have both my nostril and septum pierced.  They  also helped me with stretching my ears and now I'm happily at  7/16in.

I've now had two piercings done here: an industrial and just a regular lobe piercing.  The staff were very friendly and quick to answer my questions.  They provided all the information I needed to know on cleaning the piercings, on the healing process, etc.  They provide you with a pretty large amount of sea salt to soak the piercing in.

The process itself was pleasant as well.  The piercers (Sara for the industrial and Jill for the lobe) were very friendly.  They were also pretty talkative, which made the atmosphere more comfortable and laid back.  They don't use piercing guns here, only needles.  That being said, the industrial did hurt quite a bit, though a.) it was my first piercing and b.) I was warned ahead of time that it would probably be pretty painful.  They are sure to clean the area to be pierced very well before they pierce.  They also show you exactly where they plan to pierce, and you can ask them to adjust it if you want it in a slightly different place (lower on the lobe, for example).

In terms of pricing, I've only ever gotten two piercings, and both of them were from Somatic.  Though from what I was quoted at another store when I first investigated getting the industrial, Somatic's price was about $40 cheaper.

Good place, good people, good prices, good quality.

I really wanted to get my belly button pierced. When i checked Yelp, Somatic Body Piercing was the first one to come up. It was near my house and when i read the reviews everyone seemed to love it. And I am so glad i went there! The place was great, very clean and organized. Andy was the piercer that helped me. I guess he could tell I was nervous because he kept telling me that all I had to do was stay calm. When he took me into the room for the piercing, he told me step-by-step what he was doing and kept me well informed. He was so nice and willing to help me stay calm. He informed me how to take care of the piercing and told me to feel free to call or come in if i had any questions.

If I ever need anything else pierced I'm coming back to Somatic for sure! I highly recommend this place. I know some people recommend Jill for a piercer, and although I'm sure she's amazing, Andy is just as professional, helpful, and friendly!

I recently got my nostril pierced two days ago and I am so glad I went to Somatic. My cousin highly recommended this place since she has been going there for five years. The second I walked in I was instantly greeted by the friendly staff. We quickly filled out paper work and were helped with figuring out which jewelry to choose. Then we talked about the cleaning and healing process thoroughly. I was getting pretty nervous beforehand, but felt very comfortable after talking to them about how the procedure goes and all of our questions or concerns were answered honestly. The person who pierced me was Andy who was very helpful, friendly, and he did an amazing job! I felt very comfortable during the piercing since he would explain what he was going to do beforehand. Before i knew it, it was finished and i was pleased with how my piercing turned out. They also have beautiful and amazing jewelry. Thinking of what i can pierce next...

Also it is a very clean environment which is also a plus!

The employees at Somatic are so fun, that you will search to get anything pierced just to be around their kind, cool, folks!

I have gotten two piercings done here, my septum and the beauty mark. The first person who pierced me was Erika, who was incredibly helpful, kind and most importantly informative! Erika is beyond beautiful, very smart, and caring. She walked me through every step of aftercare patiently, and carefully. She helped me choose which piece of jewelry to get, which I was very happy to purchase with confidence.
The next person to pierce me was Jill, who is one amazing person. She is incredibly kind, smart, and very hip. I was able to have my sister watch as I followed in her footsteps and got my septum pierced. Jill is definitely a professional (as is Ericka).

The place is hospital-like clean. They have a large selection of jewelry to choose from. I know that there are other places to get piercings, but I feel like this place is LEGITIMATE and safe.

I've had eight piercings done in my lifetime. Once in my earlobes when I was 13 just because I wanted to keep up with the joneses. ...they closed up because I never wore earrings. Once again in my earlobes when I was 17 before prom because I wanted to wear these super cute star earrings. ...then they closed up because I never wore earrings. And then once again in my earlobes when I got married... but then they closed up because I never wore earrings... either that or I'm a distant relative of Wolverine. And the last time, in my earlobes was earlier this week at Somatic.

In any case, I've decided once and for all that I really do want to wear earrings. Saw Somatic on Yelp and decided it would be done. I walked in quite sheepish actually. "They're all going to laugh at me. Going into a ferrealz piercing shop where people get their hoohas and doodads pierced. And here I am, an L-7 weenie just going to get my ears pierced...the missionary position of the piercing world."

I couldn't have been more wrong. Jill was amazing, informative and super duper nice. She didn't even come close to scoffing or rushing just because I was only there for an ear piercing.

I don't think my doctors office is even this hygienic. Seriously, they don't joke around about their sanitation. If they even see you playing around with your piercing in the store, they'll kindly ask you to stop and to sanitize your hands. Quite impressive.

Jill took the time to tell mr about the evils of mall piercing guns a bit and walked me through all of the after care. It is admittedly much pricier than your mall ear pierceries, but definitely worth every penny. Now I just can't wait to go back and shop for some cute earrings.

The first time I got my ears pierced, at a limited too when I was 9, they used a gun and sure enough both ears got infected, one even rejected the earring slowly and now I have a ripped ear. yikes, right? Somatic was great, they made me feel comfortable, and gave me all the info I needed. The studs I got are beautiful and come apart in 3 pieces so it's easy to switch out pieces. This was my first time being pierced with a needle and it was much more pleasant than a gun. It felt like a quick pinch and was a very clean procedure. I would definitely go back for another piercing.

I just got my tongue pierced little over an hour ago at Somatic....an amazing experience!

My boyfriend and I walked into Somatic and was greeted by the staff who were instantly helpful and friendly! I came in, told them what I wanted, and was out of the store in less than 15 minutes.

Sara was the one who did the piercing. She made the process seem really easy and quick (which it was!). Her amicable personality totally put me at ease, even though I wasn't quite nervous more so just anxious. Sara gave me her email and told me to contact if I had any questions and was completely genuine about it.

I walked out of Somatic, tongue newly pierced, huge bag of FREE sea salt, and completely satisfied. As we left the shop, even my boyfriend said, "I'm going to come here to get my lip done."

Job well done, Somatic. I can't wait for my next visit!

Stopped in once to accompany a friend that wanted to get her nipples pierced. (I was absolutely horrified, but she was determined to get it done.) We walked in with a couple other friends and were COMPLETELY ignored by the girl working there. She was not busy with another customer; she was not on the phone; and as far as I could tell she really wasn't doing much of anything except trying to avoid eye contact with anyone in my group. Yes, the girls I was with were rather loud and a bit too giggly for my taste, but that does not justify the worker's contemptuous attitude.

When we finally got her to acknowledge our presence, she rolled her eyes so hard they could have fallen out of her head.

Too bad because I've been looking for a reputable place to get a piercing and have always heard great things about Somatic. I will be taking my business elsewhere.

When I got my piercings done there she made sure to go over the healing guidelines and also informed me that I could come by to get sea salt for my soaks whenever I wanted to. She was really helpful and made sure I was comfortable both times that I went to get something pierced. She changed her gloves so many times, I couldn't keep track. The place is super clean and they have so much pretty jewelry to choose from. Jill also made sure that the size of the jewelry suited my small ears so it wouldn't look out of place. Definitely go get pierced here by Jill and leave her a fat tip.

Oh, Somatic! How I miss thee! Since I have left the salty, overgrown bosom of Long Beach, I have found no one who could replace you in my heart. From the first day I found you, foolishly speaking of  "gauging", until the day I left you, knowledgeably pierced and stretched and perhaps a little in love with a cute piercer, you were always there for me.

For those new to piercing, Somatic is the place for you. None of that, "More Modded Than Thou" attitude here, oh no. The gracious piercers of Somatic are here to educate you, hold your hand, and poke holes in your body in the gentlest fashion possible.

The shop is always immaculately clean, as are the practices of the piercers. The only possible downside is that you will pay more for your jewelry here than online, but that is what comes of supporting local business. It's totally worth it.

I recently got my nostril pierced here, and was totally satisfied with the experience. Sarah, who said she was on loan from another shop, was my piercer and was awesome. She was super friendly, walked me through the entire process, was very patient with my questions and placement issues.

The place is insanely clean, which is a good thing, they dont touch anything without wearing gloves. And they are a little maniacal about after care, which although off putting at first, is probably for the best. Jewelry selection is nice, and they assured me that they only use the finest materials for their jewelry which ensures the smallest chance of any allergic reaction which was a concern of mine.  A month or so later, and things look good. The healing process is long, but so far so good.

AWESOME. That pretty much sums up my experience with the place.  This isn't one of those tattoo parlors that does some piercings on the side, this place actually specializes in body piercings.

How can I not give them 5 stars when my experience with them surpasses my encounter with other piercing places?! The first time I got my lip pierced the lady had to do it TWICE and the bleeding (which wasn't supposed to happen) during, yes that's right, I said during, was insane. And she blamed it on my "large bottom lip". I got a vertical labret done here, and no bleeding.  My piercers name was Andy, and he was very accommodating and didn't seem to mind when I decided on getting smaller balls instead. He was also very thorough when explaining the aftercare. So thorough in fact that I started zoning out while he was going over it, I wouldn't be surprised if my eyes were glazed over with my tongue lolling out of my mouth.

The place is very sterile and clean, and they wipe down after every client. No chance of getting a staph infection here! During the process, he explained what he was doing, from the marking, to the clamping, to the piercing.

Oh yeah, and they also give out sea salt soak packs that come with a brochure explaining how to care for your piercing. He said I can come in and get more whenever I run out (for free). You can't beat free! Their jewelry selection is extensive. They also offer other services. i.e. tooth jewelry, latisse.

I paid a total of $70 including a 10 dollar tip, which I'm willing to pay again and again (should I get more piercings) if it means walking out without a staph infection.

The staff is friendly and super knowledable. I got my nose pierced here and I don't remember the name of the guy who did it but he had a ton of tattoos and dreads. He was really professional and went over the ins and outs of caring for it with me. I love that they give you sea salt instead of a harsh antiseptic to clean your piercings with. Very clean environment and they make you lie down for your procedure. This guy was so good it lierally hurt for a second and I barely bled. I even asked him to keep the needle out of sight until he did it and he was totally good natured about it. Made me feel comfortable.

    5 stars!

I seriously cannot get enough of this place! I love love love Somatic!

When I first came into Somatic, I talked to Jill about getting a septum piercing. She was very nice and helpful when answering my questions (this was my very first piercing since my ears and my nose, all done with a piercing gun... ugh, never again!). The following week, I came back to get it done, and voila! I've had it since Dec. 2009.

Since then, I've been coming in to check out new jewelry and purchasing a few... and that's how I met Sara! She's also nice and SUPER funny! She did both my ear lobe stretching and changing my septum jewelry (after it healed of course :] ).

Not only is the staff super chill, but the decor & whole environment inside Somatic is calm and ambient. My kind of place!

I've had my nose and tongue pierced before and it was nothing like this.
From the moment you walk the girl at the counter (cute sunflower tattoo's) is really nice and knows her shit. They go over jewelry, care and everything else too.
Jill did my piercing and to be honest I was scared as hell but they way she explains every little step to you as she does it takes a lot of the anxiety away. It was really a quick and the pain so minor.
I will mos def return to this place if i plan on any future piercings.

OK, I lagged on writing this review. And now that I look back...hmmm.
"Memories like the corners of my mind.
    Memories
    Misty watercolor memories
    Of the way we were
Scattered pictures of the smiles we left behind
Smiles we gave to one another
    For the way we were..."

I got my tongue pierced here.  A girl I had a crush on at the time(a long, long time ago pre A.V.) had an identity issue thing going on for some reason.  I was her chosen one.  I wanted to go and get my tongue pierced and she was undecided if she wanted to do it as well.  In the end, she decided she wanted to get her tongue pierced with me at the same time.  OK, that came out wrong.  You know what I mean.

Located in between Coco Reno's and the Library was Somatic.  We had to walk up a long flight of stairs, which at the time seemed long because I was nervous and excited about getting my tongue pierced. My crush wanted me to go first, but I declined because I knew she was going to be messed up after wards.  I was right.  So when it was my turn, I could totally feel my heart beating fast and my hands getting cold.

I was instructed to gargle my mouth out with Listerine for over a minute to make sure that I was sterilized.  This place is cozy and very clean inside.  The girl who pierced my tongue was very cool and knowledgeable.  They also had some cool bling for your piercing.  I didn't get the chance to buy anything  so I don't know how much they cost.

I wasn't going to do my belly button,  that sucker would've disappeared in my puffiness(aka fat).  Word on the street was, the ladies liked the piercing because it added a certain something, something.  Wink. Wink.  *Rolls eyes at self and shakes head(damn it's getting really late)*

I wasn't sure how I was going to react as the procedure started.  Prior to getting my piercing I told some of my friends that I was going to do it. They were like- oh no don't do it.  You can totally chip your tooth and jack up your nerve in your tongue and possibly swallow the darn thing.  Meh, I didn't care.

My piercer asked me where I wanted it positioned and then clamped the eff out of it.  Owww.   I didn't even shed a tear.  My tongue started to dry up and I started to drool like a baby. The only I can describe the feeling is to compare it to a roller coaster.  The slow build to the top of the ride and then that moment of silence prior to the crazy rush that followed.

As the needle went thru, I couldn't believe the euphoric feeling I felt instantaneously as the needle pierced my tongue.  It was awesome. It reminded me of the time I nearly drowned in college and the sad thing was- I was on the swim team at the time. My work out consisted of doing 10 x 50m 'no breathers' at the end of the many laps and intervals I did.  I didn't time it right and my chest felt like it was going to explode in the last 5m then all of a sudden-that same euphoric feeling.  Good thing my coach happened to walk by because he pulled me out of the pool.  (True story,we had double work out days that week and it happened before out team work outs and my team mates at the time were sitting at the table nearby the pool.)

I frickin' loved my piercing.  I didn't have any regrets doing it.  Unfortunately, I had to take it out after a year later because of work and because I nearly swallowed the top ball that screws onto the post.  This sucked because it came loose during a soccer game. Good thing my coach never found out about it. That was a close call.

If I decide to get pierced again, I'm definitely going to go back here. I'll take piercing any day over threading. As for the girl I had a crush on- nothing.  I never made a move when I had the chance. Thank goodness I didn't.  She was a hot mess.
    Memories.

I did it!! I love it! I have NO regrets...

I think my life is taking me to a random place, where I just do things because Im bored and why not.  Ive been wanting my septum pierced sooo..

    Yelp to the rescue!

After doing my Yelp research I came across Somatic. They specialize in Piercings, so its not like you have a tattoo artist doing your piercings, and thats what sold me.

Jill was soooo nice, because I came into her shop a ball of nerves.  She sat me down, explained everything that was going to happen, Including after care.

When it came down to the actually piercing she was super sterile, clean needles, gloves, no nasty needle guns...

No pain. It felt like some one plucked a hair out my nose.

They have a gorgeous selection of jewelry. like this beautiful Aztec bone jewelry, like something out of Apocalypto... It made me contemplate piercing something else.

My septum piercing was only $30 but I had to buy a ring and I got a hoop barbel 12 gauge for 30 bucks. Its high quality stuff that want stick to your skin or anything.

Her Pandora station rocks, she rocks.  O and she gives you an aftercare package, which is basically a sea salt pack, and if you ever run out you can go back and get some more for FREEEEEE!!!

O and if you loose a bead she will replace that as well.  I love her. If I ever get something else pierced Ill go back to her. :D

    Hi everyone,

Just got my tongue, nipples, and bellybutton pierced about an hour ago.  The staff is awesome and very professional.  They talked me through the procedure, after-care treatments, and give you all their contact info in case you need to get a hold of them.

It's very clean, offers more than just piercings! I'm thinking about getting their permanent makeup done, it looks very natural and their ink doesn't fade to look like a prison tattoo!!! They also have fillers, latisse and laser treatments, all they need is a masseuse!!

They will work with your body and let you know what is suitable and appropriate wich is nice.

I had my nipples pierced before and it hurt like hell, with Jill it felt like a small pinch for all four pierces!!! (THANK YOU JILL, YOU ARE AMAZING!!!!).

I am definitely recommending and going back to Somatic  ;)

This review has been 16 years in the making...kinda, sorta...well...

I have been wanting to get my nose pierced since I was in high school.  And one would think that after 16 years I just might grow out of it, but really it took that long to build the courage to do it.

I went to Somatic with Kealoha awhile ago to get some jewelry for his piercings and I fell in love with the place.  It is small, CLEAN, professional, and friendly.

The shop has some of the most beautiful jewelry I have ever seen...they have jewelry made from metals, wood, stone, and shell.  They have simple jewelry and intricate jewelry.  The shop is small, but I could spend a good amount of time looking through all the jewelry cases.

I picked the smallest nostril screw they had, filled out my consent forms, and was led into the piercing room.

Jill was very professional, yet very kind when she was working with me, I think she could tell how nervous I was.  She explained how everything was going to happen (I can't remember now because I could barely concentrate) and had me lay down.

She told me to take a deep breath and that when I exhaled, it would be over.  I tried to inhale, but felt like I was going to start hyperventilating...I looked up at Kealoha and he squeezed my hand, looked in my eyes, and said my name.  That was all I needed as an extra burst of courage.  I drew my breath in and just like she promised, I exhaled and it was over.

I wish I had concentrated on how the procedure was going to work.  I wish I would have kept my eyes open.  It's true what Jill says...It hurts more to have eyebrows waxed than it does to pierce a nostril.

I would go back IF I wanted anything else pierced, but with my track record, I will be a grandma before I return for anything other than jewelry...ha ha ha.

I went in yesterday to get my tragus pierced after reading some wonderful yelp reviews.  I was warmly welcomed, and they checked out the area I wanted to pierce before they even agreed to do it. The whole place was extremely clean, and the staff were extremely knowledgeable about everything I had questions about.

It took no time at all for Pierre (who is filling in for Jill while she's out of town) to deftly jab my cartilage with some steel, and he made comforting conversation the whole time - he never once mentioned the word "needle," though it wouldn't have bothered me.  They encouraged me to stop by during the healing process so they could check it out.  It ended up costing me about $70 after tip, but I totally think it was worth it.

I would highly recommend this place for anyone interested in any type of piercing.

I'd have to say this place was great when it came to knowledge, experience, and cleanliness.

But I am not patient and I don't like to wait. If there was just one girl piercing and the other opening the cases to show people the jewelry It would just be fine.

But unfortunately there was only one person. I had to wait literally 45minutes for my piercing because my piercer had to talk and show people everything. I wanted to just walk out.

The first time I went, It was fine and got pretty decent service. The second time I went with my friend who was looking for some plugs and we got the worst service EVER!!

I don't know if it was because of the color of our skin or the fact that we were both mexican with long hair looking very native but when we asked the girl to show us some jewelry, she was extremely rude and said that she could only take it out of the case if we were going to buy it.

Could we get discriminated against much more than that???

We just kinda looked at each other, kept looking at other things then left. We would never ever go back there again.

I would have thought that they would be more generous to everyone no matter who you are because of the community in which they reside in but nope...

I would not recommend this place to anyone...

My sister went here to get her nose pierced, spur of the moment.

I have my nose pierced but I actually had to LEAVE the country. Fly thousands of miles to Spain. Stay there a month; so when I got home, my family would've MISSED me sooo much that they would get over the whole "new hole in my head" issue easier and quicker!!! (It worked!)

Needless to say, my sister is way braver than I am! She actually did it in the same city we live in! WOW! Now THAT takes guts. (Nevermind that I'm 34 and she's 41... Our parents have yet to recognize us as anything less than misbehaving teenagers!)

My sister had heard about this place from one of her son's teachers who had recently gotten her nose pierced & we decided to give it a go.

Sarah was there and she was absolutely wonderful. She explained everything to my nervous and almost-hyperventilating sister. She was friendly and sweet and it was fun just to hang out with her for the 30 or so minutes it took to get the stuff ready to pierce my sister.

Sarah gave matter-of-fact and easy to understand & follow after-care instructions and not only that, gave us her phone number, her MySpace page with assurances to call her or contact her anytime if we had any questions!

The piercing turned out to be a lot of fun (probably more so for me than my sister!) Sarah allowed me to photographically document every moment of the procedure and I got some great shots of my sister and Sarah.

The shop is warm and welcoming and to my surprise they had an awesome jewelry collection that had NOTHING to do with body jewelry. Some very awesome artwork displayed by some very talented jewelers!

This place is wonderful. & since the only person I met was Sarah, I recommend her but I'm sure that the whole staff is as great as she is!

I went back once just to have them check to see if my piercing was infected or not, and they did that gladly.

The price is very expensive, but with the quality of their story and knowledge, it's worth the money.

Listen up. If you're in Long Beach and you want to get pierced, please for God's sakes, give this place a call.

I don't bargain shop when it comes to having someone push metal through my flesh. The shop is hell-a clean and the staff knows what the eff they're doing. Each time I've been there for my own stuff (4 and counting), they are able to answer all of my questions.

My navel piercing had been torn out once and the jewelry fell out and the piercing closed another time. I had scar tissue and they "anchored" the piercing behind the tissue.

The parking here ba-lows, but if you don't cry when you're done you can go down to the Reno Room for a drink.

Got all my piercings done here (5 total right now) and have been numerous times for other things and my partner's piercings  and every single time these guys are awesome. Been pierced by both Jill and Sara.

Very clean, very down to earth people who are awesome. If you need something pierced in Long Beach, this is where you go.

No appointments (for piercings anyway), just walk right in. Very good place for a first timer too, they explain things very well and you know exactly what's going on, and they go over EVERYTHING you need to know. It's not scary and I promise, it really barely hurts at all, considering you're getting a needle stuck through your chosen spot.

THE best place to get pierced. i went to other piercing places in los angeles and none of them compared to Somatic. This place gives off a very inviting vibe.  THe people that were there were extremely nice and helpful and put me at ease because this was my first piercing.  DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE IN LA CALLED "THROUGH YOUR SKIN"....the people there are complete assholes.  i walked into Through Your SKin and was completely ignored.

Somatic is the place to go and i am for sure gonna come back for more piercings.

Went in here with a friend who got pierced and I was really impressed with this place as well as the piercer, Jill (?)

    The Good:
    - Clean and sterile. There is anti-bacterial hand wash EVERYWHERE!
    - Really nice and eclectic jewelery that's not terribly over priced
    - Great location in the midst of the shops on Broadway/Redondo
    - The staff is friendly and not "mightier than thou" like some places

    The BAD:
    - ??????

    The Moral of the story?
    GET PIERCED HERE!!!!!!

Piercing places have always freaked me out. Call me a wuss, it matters not.

With most of the regulars looking like the indigenous tribal people of  Irian-Jaya, I think of rich white people disappearing and their bones being found later around a smoldering campfire. But Danger is my middle name so to celebrate retirement from the gummint, I decided to have my lobes pierced, not with the gun (which Somatics won't allow within eyesight) but the sterile, hollow stainless tube pushed through the flesh with a quick jab...like a spear.

I went with my gf and as soon as three kids got their belly-piercings (hurts when they laugh), our man Pat ushered us into the back room, what I pictured as a chamber of horrors, but was actually a small, neat and clean room, tastefully decorated with Buddhist images. It had one hospital-grade, padded table where I was asked to lay back and relax. Pat, indescribably covered in tattoos and holes everywhere, turned out to be incredibly knowledgeable and without resorting to inane jibber-jabber, explained the procedure, doing so in such a way I was totally at peace with what was to come. He did some precise measurements, some scrubbing and went on to tell me all I needed to know on post-pierce cleanliness then asked me to take a deep breath and let it out slowly. Before I knew what had happened, he said "Done". One stainless hoop in each lobe. I was stoked at the whole process. It was painless, clean and professionally done and I couldn't have asked for a better piercing. Don't get me wrong though, one hole per lobe is all for this girl. But if you're looking for that special body insert, I highly recommend a visit, sit, ask your questions and let your breath out slowly.

I have been here twice now and I love that it is very clean and they seem to have a lot of experience.  I cut one star because the hours were a bit frustrating and so is parking in the area.  I wish I could remember the name of the guy that did my piercing and jewelry change.  Same guy both visits.   He was very nice, professional, CLEAN and quick to answer my questions.  Somatic was highly recommended to me by a few people.

I love this place.  I would highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in a piercing, just getting information about piercing or wanting a jewelry change.  It is really clean and professional.

The first time I went here was a few years ago when I wanted to change my bellybutton ring.  They were so helpful and warm.

Yesterday, I went for my (early) birthday present for myself* to get my nipples pierced.  The piercer, Wayde, was really friendly and made me feel really comfortable.  He showed me my jewelry choices first and answered all my questions.  And he really took his time to make sure I was happy with the marking before he actually did the piercing.  Um, as for the piercing itself, I did not expect it to hurt as much as it did.  Holy crap it hurt.  After the first one, I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to go through with the second.  But I managed.

After he was done, he let me lie there and recover from my pain shock and then he went over the care directions and even gave me a big of non-iodized salt for my twice-a-day soaking.  The directions and amounts are right on the bag to make it easy for you.

    * My logic for getting it a month in advance was that it wouldn't be as painful for my birthday.  ::grins::
