Before going here i read and research  this place. They have good reviews so i decided to give them a shot.
Went here on a Saturday afternoon, they were able to take me. Huero is who helped me and tattooed me. I am glad it was him, Huero has good reviews. Does great art and takes his time, does not rush and really listens to what your needs are.
The reason i gave them 4 stars is because this was my 1 st time here. So far i had a good experience. Huero is working on completing a full sleeve. It will take about 4 more sessions. Once my full sleeve is complete, i will review them again.
Pros: clean , friendly tattoo guys.
Cons: I was not a fan of the girl who answer the phone, she seem unfriendly and in a rush to hang up.
Awesome, awesome shop!! It is sparkling clean. The people who work here are super friendly and nice. The artists are amazingly talented. I came to this shop with the start of a sleeve that someone else had started and was in the process of destroying. The artist "Huero" totally understood my vision, fixed the disaster and, through his own free-handing and our combined ideas, gave me exactly what I was hoping for...and then some! I love my sleeve. I think this shop is great. I live in Northern California and I would totally travel south, again, to have more work done, there.
Review Source:FOR PIERCINGS:
I've gotten my nose pierced here by Mando about 3 months ago. For the price of $30, I think my experience could have been much better. It was clearly my first time getting a piercing, but he wasn't very comforting. A good piercer should thoroughly explain the actual piercing process before sticking the needle in. I was literally just sitting down, watching him prepare the needle and whatnot. When he was about to pierce my nose, he didn't count it off or anything. Once the piercing was finished, he didn't explain the aftercare process very well either. All he said was to use anti-bacterial soap and bactine. I had to ask him how often and how long I would need to do that for. For the piercing experience, I give it two stars because the price is reasonable, although the service could have been better.
FOR TATTOOS:
I've had a few friends who had been to this place for tattoos. But I went with my boyfriend to get his tattoo done by Ray, and he was great. VERY nice guy, professional, and explained the process well. He prepared my boyfriend pretty well, considering it was his first tattoo. So as for the tattoo experience, I'd give it a 4 star rating :)
This review is for a simple tattoo and piercings. My girlfriend and I walked in without an appointment and were able to be serviced the same day as the shop was not too busy at the moment. We had to wait but not an unreasonable amount of time. We looked online at local shops and liked some of the work we saw from Southbay Tattoo. I just wanted an artist who could do clean lines and nice lettering since I wanted a relatively small lettered piece. My girlfriend was tattooed many years ago at Southbay Tattoo so those were the deciding factors.
Piercings: we both were pierced by Mando. I had my lip re-pierced (closed for over 8 years) and my girlfriend had her septum pierced. I am hesitant about mixed piercing/tattoo shops as I would rather they specialize in one field but the service was good, results as we wanted them, and the pricing was quite fair. There could've been perhaps a little more explaining of the care but we weren't newbies on piercings, just needed a refresher and to learn the particularities of septum piercings.
Tattoo: I have wanted to get tattooed since a child but could not commit on a particular piece. The pieces I had done were ones that I have thought about for at least 10 years so I was sure I was not getting something I would regret later. I found the perfect font, spaced it out to my particular liking in Photoshop, and brought the printout. I also brought a book with a symbol I wanted and a blown-up photocopy of it. I know first-timers can be picky and the artist may be hesitant, but luckily I was worked on by Huero, whose work is good and can be seen on their Facebook page. He was making jokes and did not make me feel uncomfortable at all. Being that it was my first tattoo, I wanted to document the process and Huero and other staff enjoyed photobombing, which was funny. I think the overall results are great and I particularly like the fine job he did with the lettering. I'm not sure when I'm ready for my next tattoos so I didn't ask about vegan and UV inks, but those will be in my future for sure.
What the heck is up with the tattoo places in long beach? Â I went to south bay at 1240 pm today and could not get a tattoo because "we're getting ready for a show. Â maybe tomorrow'. Then went to Tattoo Studio and was told ' the guy isn't here" Â Is it because I'm black? Â Trust me My money is quite green and I have plenty of it.
Review Source:looked around for someone to do a portrait. Â I found Rock. Â It took a while to book because he's in high demand. Â He's the best. Â So be patient. Â Did an excellent job and I'm proud to have his work on my arm. Â This place is super clean and the staff professional. Â Also, the atmosphere was great. Â Was there late on a Tuesday night, and met a lot of good people. Â I guess it's the place to hang out. Â Great music too: everything from Sly and the Family Stone, to Pink Floyd.
Review Source:This place is horrible . I came for friday the 13th for a tattoo for only 13 bucks. So it says you can pick your own design just dont overdue it. Ok so i wanted the word AGAPE which means love in greek and my boyfriend wanted a small 69 for cancer sign. Our tattoos were going to be small , smaller than what the limit was.
Not even going to have much detail and the broad saysno you cant do that our arists arent drawimg them out, wtf? How long does it take to hand writea word?... so i had the pic on my phone she says no you need it printed out so i asked if i could just email tto them and they print it rigt? No she did not want to do that then she says it doesnt matter because the tattoo has to have the number thirteen in it. Um excuse me but i dont want that nmber on me and someone else asked if it had to be there and this guy said no you can get it without it. Wtf but yet they tell me i must get a thirteen with mine. What a waste of my time and you lst my business forever. You guys suck. You really couldnt tattoo a simple word???? Its my own design you said i could have and no where is it stated the design you want has to have a stupid 13 in it'. Horrible customer srvice
Amazing!! I was greeted by really cool guys in the shop after coming from another one where I did not feel a good vibe at all. I immediately felt comfortable, good vibe, shop was cool, clean, and artwork on in the shop and mostly on the guys was incredible; much of which they did themselves. Drew is awesome; he's funny, cool guy, great work, I felt so at ease through my first tattoo experience and I knew I went to the right place  after looking around and waiting so long. Just go here. Period. They were so honest, reasonable, great work, great shop, great guys.
Review Source:Saturday was a now or never for me. I've been wanting to get my septum pierced for awhile and finally worked up the courage to do it. My friend told me that Southbay Tattoo had a good rep for piercings. So, I figured if the price seemed reasonable and there was an opening I was going to do it. The price was incredibly reasonable and there was an opening just for me.
Alfredo was incredibly informative and friendly. He walks you through the entire process on how everything is going to work as well as how to take care of your piercing. Quick and easy with a professional touch.
If you are considering a piercing of some kind. I most definitely think you should check this place out. Good service. I left incredibly satisfied.
I've gotten 10 tattoos and 8 piercings from this place. I recommend anyone to go to them. There is an immense amount of talent in each one of the artists. Pricing is fair (shop minumum is $50) and they are extremely sanitary. All of the artists are laid back and super chill. Love em'. Not going to give them my usual review.
Update: I am not going to berate them because they do a great job but they seem to have gotten really cocky for some reason. The only reason why I went from a 5 to a 4 is because of the attitude issue and after all I have found my new tattoo home. Go where you're comfortable!! Always remember never bargain shop for tats unless they are out of line like this new $100 minimum I'm hearing about.
I got my first tattoo here during the fall, because it was really close to where I live. Â All I wanted was a small diamond on my finger, and after calling around different shops to find out their minimum was $100, I was happy to find Southbay. Â Their shop minimum is only $50.
My sister and I walked in with no appointment and luckily we didn't have to wait much longer. Â The shop was a lot cleaner than I had expected, which is always a plus.
The artists were all very friendly, and the piercer even gave me a few tips on my snug piercing.
I've gone back to get my tattoo touched up for free of charge too! Thaaaanks Southbay :)
I went in here a few years ago to get my naval pierced and everything seemed fine. He tried his best to make me feel comfortable and I did. The atmosphere is pretty cool and everything is clean. It's a cool place.
The only problem I had was the aftercare that the guy told me to do and the fact that he had pierced too much skin. I cleaned it like I was told and tried my best for proper healing but the skin started trying to heal over the top so there is a huge nasty scar there. I was told to use Bactine to clean my piercing with and it hasn't been until now that I found out the reason why it was healing like that and it was because of the Bactine. If anyone gets their naval pierced and are told to use Bactine, DON'T.
I've been getting my piercings here with Alfredo since I was 18. All of my experiences have been great here.
The staff is very friendly and explain everything is full detail.
The first time I got my labret piercing. I was fresh out of high school and was desperately looking for a legit place to get a piercing. So I found this place on my way to work every morning.
The place looks very clean and organized when you walk in. All the guys are very friendly and come up to you the moment you walk in. Alfredo did my first piercing and it was a great experience. He was very funny, and explained the procedure and after care very well. Also showed me taking the needle out of it wrapper. Didn't feel any pain.
I came back five more time for piercings: two lips, two eyebrow and one nose piercing. Always get it done with Fredo. I don't suggest getting piercings with the girl that works there. Always has a bad attitude and messed up my friend's nose piercing.
Now as far as the tattoos go, it just depends who does them. They all do a good job, but some better than others. I got a tattoo done somewhere else and the "artist" messed it up, so i came here and got it fixed by one of the guys. Awesome job, I've been recommending this shop to so many people that I might as well start promoting for them.
Will be in next month for some more ink done!
So, I decided to come back and expand a little on my first review.
Basically, I went in for a lip piercing. The guy in the front was very nice and told me it would be a few minutes. The entire staff tends to joke around too, so it was a very light atmosphere. When I went back there, the guy, Alfredo was very nice and professional and explained the entire procedure to me. The piercing part itself was quick and painless and then I had my new piercing! Alfredo printed out some aftercare instructions on how to avoid having it get infected and then suggested the Target across the street to get the Bactine & Biotene that I needed.
The staff was super helpful and told me to come back or call if I had any other questions or if it looked like my piercing was getting infected.
I would definitely go back and would recommend this place to everyone!
Oh, and my cousin goes here for all his tattoos and says they do a pretty good job too, so definitely check them out for that too. I think they have a website where they tell you about each artist.
Got a tattoo done by Huero in March & I love it... as does everyone else! The guys at Southbay are true artists & take their work seriously. Rock, Huero, Primo, Mario... just a great bunch of guys. My siblings & I will only get work done by this shop. A bunch of my family & friends now want to get tattooed by Southbay after seeing the work they've done on us. This shop is awesome & I would recommend it to anyone interested in getting some serious work done.
Review Source:I will NEVER EVER recommend this place. My first hint should have been when I arrived a week before Christmas to purchase a gift certificate for a piercing. When I arrived the guy behind the front counter said that he could not help me because the guy in charge of the GC had just left and would not be back for over half an hour. So instead I just took a business card and I wrapped it up with a note saying that I was paying for a nose piercing. (a gift that my daughter wanted) On the day that we arrived they were not the friendliest, but not rude so no biggie. But later that night we had problems with the piercing. We called immediately the next morning and they told us to come down. First off one guy was such a jerk and was totally rude after he confirmed that it probably wasn't the best jewelry for the job and to basically deal with it and maybe on Sat they could order something better for us. He made us feel like we were waisting his time after they told us to drive all the way down there! So in other words they do not carry any type of piercing jewelry in stock. I then asked if they recommended any place for us to go to buy what we should have and they said No. I could tell that their egos were huge. One guy made the comment that only he and the other guy that was off that day were the only body piercers in the south bay. (great customer service guys!!) So we left and I found a new MUCH BETTER place with a TON of jewelry to choose from. Big Daddy Tattoo on PCH. They were really nice, friendly and helpful. He even put the ring in for us with no additional charge. When we told him of our experience I was really impressed at how he didn't talk trash about them he just said that it was unfortunate and helped us out. I will ALWAYS recommend and use BIG DADDY in the future. SB Tattoo is not a place I would ever recommend. They could use a little help in customer service and just simply having manners!
Review Source:Anybody who keeps up with whats going on in LA's world of ink work should know by now. Â Soutbay Tattoo is on the rise with some of the best and friendliest artist around. Â Big Rock does the best portraits your gonna see on the planet...I double dog dare anyone to say otherwise. Â The other artist on deck such as Huero, and Mario, and a few others are amazing with any style. Â Also, don't come in here looking for some old weak shit...Be OG with yours coming in here and get some real work done.
Review Source:I really dig this place, my brother and my husband both got their tattoos done here and they look great. My brother also got his tongue pierced here.
For those of you who worry about cleanliness this place is VERY VERY clean. I've seen hospitals that were dirtier than this place. And it's in a very great area. My brother had to wait a little while before he could get his tattoo done because they were drawing it out for him. But there are a lot of stores and restaurants located near by and for those of you who might need it a bar next door.
Sooooo...it's been a while since i've been over here, but it looks like the same guys who helped me out when i went in. I got my first tattoo here when I went with a friend of mine. The prices are pretty decent, especially for tattoos, but like all shops it really just depends on the artist, and what they want to charge. =) I just got some simple black ink work done on my shoulder, and the guys were really good about making sure that i was comfortable for my first tattoo. I think it came out pretty well, and I'm happy with the result.
I'm not sure if I would go back to get more work done here, mostly because I want more of a traditional japanese look to my next few tattoos, and if i remember correctly no one at the shop specializes in that area.
But, take a look at their site, or go in and check out the portfolios they've got and see if it works for you. The guys there are good artists so it's worth checking out as a spot to get some ink or piercings done.
