I LOVE THIS PLACE!!! I came here for my first tattoo a few months ago (i realized j never posted a review... Oops!), and i could not be happier with my experience. The shop is suuuuper clean with lots of interesting and beautiful artwork on the  walls, and all the staff is extremely friendly. Kevin was the artist that did mine (i got the words 'never grow up' in simple script with a small peter pan hat hanging off the end) and he was phenomenal. It came out even better than i expected and i could not be more happy with his work. And he did a great job of calming me down and reassuring me that everything would be fine (i was a bit nervous haha) .  And the price is what sealed the deal for me... I paid $140, including tip.  They're very fair with their prices, and you get an AMAZING work of art! Definitely ask for Kevin if you come here! You wont regret it! I will come back to Still Life for my future tattoos, no question!! Thank you so much guys!!

saw a flyer at woody's in seal beach about a fund raiser for the families in Connecticut.

had some time so i went by the shop and they were cranking out some really nice art for a good cause, they were donating all their earnings to the family of the children that were killed.

seriously nice guy, clean shop and i admire his work ethic and his attitude towards giving back to the community and humanity at large.

i highly recommend going to this shop if you want a good experience.

I wandered into this shop after noticing their new (awesome, handmade) sign outside. Great vibe and everyone was more than friendly. After some back and forth, got my tattoo done by Tim. Charming guy who's a seriously great artist. Told him in very little words what I wanted and trusted him based on a simple sketch. The details/shading of the tattoo surpassed any expectation. Well worth the nerves. Couldn't have asked for a better experience. Will be back and recommending to anyone/everyone. Thanks Tim and Still Life!

I had a half sleeve done by Kevin that came out amazing. I gave him the general idea of what I wanted to get done and he drew up a piece that was everything I had asked for and more. He is an incredible artist. I really feel like I get art from him and not just ink. He seems to have really cared about how I liked the work and was genuinely humble and concerned with my tattoo. Also, you really cant beat a shop on PCH in Seal Beach. The shop is small and well kept and has a really cool vibe. I mostly gave the shop five stars because Kevin was someone that I would truly recommend as an artist to my family and friends and anyone who wants a great tattoo and a great tattoo experience.

Tim Shelton is the magic man! Needed a cover done and the work was incredible. He turned a very dark blue and black nautical star into a colorful starfish. It is the beginning of a 1/4 sleeve and he will be doing all the work. I won't go to anyone else and I actually have tattoo artists in the family. If you want the best, he's it. Tattoos are awesome, does it in a timely manner, can freehand like no one else, and not over priced. A very humble guy who is a gifted artist. He makes you feel like a friend, not a customer.

This was the first time I had been to a shop for a tattoo, but it was such a great experience. Marc did my tattoo and not only did he make some helpful suggestions, but the whole thing came out perfectly and at a reasonable price. I've already suggested Still Life to multiple friends.

Place is great, clean, warm feeling, the aroma of the shop is just relaxing, the owner of the shop (tim) has a very diverse type of tattoo experience. I met him back when he was working @ costa mesa tattoo almost 5 years ago, and his style and artistic development has grown significantly. I was also able to experience getting tatted when he did a couple tats up at American Electric, which was a cool experience because of the show in all.

    PROS:

Master at bringing out capturing emotions and symbolism behind a persons purpose for a tattoo and integrating custom and personalized artwork to compliment the peices. His work is 5 star from portrait, crazy lighting effects, japanese art, lettering (even has crazy custom lettering, to very detailed and dificult tattoos). He at times will actually just end up getting a basic drawing, and if you allow him.. he will paint your arm with markers and litterally tattoo you from scratch... awesome awesome experience.

Very easy to get along with, and talk to.. great listener and jokes around alot, doesnt take breaks, and really puts in effort to each tattoo.

    CONS:

only con I would say is that because of his popularity and his rise in paintings ( has great paintings) he is getting booked weeks in advanced. Pricing i would consider to be a little high, but if he loves your symbolism of your tattoo, or the artwork, and if you get along with him, he often times brings down the price... which is rare for artists like him, but his whole meaning behind tattooing is for the people, not the money.

    Personal Advice to prospecting people:

never let money be an issue, if you wont a tattoo, have the money. Make sure you reach him and book in advance, if you dont confirm within that day (even if its just the time and you have the day down) because he has so many people who want to get tatted by him, he will probably reschedule you.

    Advice to Still Life:

For someone who is looking for your shop, it gets hard to locate you when your driving.

Tim Shelton is one of the best out there. his work is exceptional, his detailing is impeccable (he actually takes his time and cares about your tattoo)  not only is he talented but he's the raddest tattoo artist ive ever encountered. Ive been to many shops over many cities and states and i've never felt more comfortable than with him at his shop. Other shops and artists can seem very intimidating or not make you feel welcome, or they'll just slap a tattoo on you and put out there hand wanting your money-not the case with Tim. Super laid-back, funny guy. He's been doing my tattoos for a few years now and over these years I've brought him I wanna say 11 or 12 people-many of them have come back for second and third tattoos. Its really hard to come across great talent, good people and good vibes from tattoo shops, at Still Life Tattoo you get all three. (I've never written a review in my life, for anything, but I feel Tim deserves the recognition)  -Katrina

I really don't think my review can do justice to what a great experience and honor it is to be tattooed at Still Life Tattoo.  But please read on if you are interested in getting tattooed at a shop that is clean, professional, creative, and fun!

I have gotten three tattoos by Tim Shelton. What is important to me when looking for an artist is not only the conditions of the shop and his/her portfolio, but their artistic work ethic as well. What I mean by "artistic work ethic" is that the artist works continually on becoming a better artist both in tattooing and other mediums. Tim as well as all the artists under the Still Life family are always painting, drawing, exhibiting, working on commission pieces, etc. to better their skills for not as just a means to earn a living, but as means to breathe.  Check out Tim's portfolio online at <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2FShelltoon.com&s=75e57a087b258cd02f0e42d4f3d1e5f5c5aab2f85e67fdd0280e3de1ca16a321" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://Shelltoon.com</a>. I met Tim before being tattooed by him but was convinced that he was my next artist because of his paintings. His work is what I can only describe as Traditional tattoo art meets Surrealism. His tattoos meet the same criteria and more. There is the work I'm sure like every artist, Tim prefers to do, but each style of tattoo I've gotten or have seen in his portfolio is diverse; he can do realistic to traditional, cartoonish or watercolor like to black and grey which to me is a sign of a phenomenal artist. He's pretty damn meticulous with his work, you might sit in the chair a little longer than either thought it would take, but that's only because he really works to make sure the art turns out right.  I would give Tim a sketch or parameter to a tattoo idea and he has interpreted it in a way that works well on the skin as the sketch or idea I gave him did not. Tim worked out color combinations that I wouldn't have thought of that looked great on the skin, he'd ask me what I wanted as far as color, I'd give him my opinion but then say he would know better than I what would look well on skin thus giving him artistic freedom, and it turned out fantastic. I'm not implying that you as a future customer should dump what you have in mind as far as design and ideas go, but when you give these kids room to be creative, they'll surprise you in the best of ways.

Tim is honestly also one of the most positive/inspirational artists I know, example: I asked him if he gets annoyed by certain tattoos he has to do (everyone has their work pet peeves right?!) and he responded that well, while there are tattoos that get him extra pumped because HE really likes the content of the tattoo too, but hey, if its content matter that he doesn't necessarily dig really isn't the way to look at it, in his view if someone comes into the shop and wants a gang of dolphins hugging a rainbow, he's gonna give them the best damn dolphin huggin rainbow tattoo ever!  Class act Tim!!!

The last time I was being tattooed by Tim at still Life I was able to buy a print off Matt, a tattooer I have yet to get worked on by but his art in flesh and canvas is amazing, which was an added bonus. Oh, and if you get tattooed by Tim expect to burn a few hundred calories laughing, he's hilarious! So as it seems as if I'm raving about this place a lil' too much, fuck yeah I am and I haven't even scratched the surface!

Cheers for reading this and thanks for supporting your local tattoo artist!
