Alright so, before I explain how outstanding this place is, let me first explain my standard stance on most tatto artists and tattoo shops.
First, I've been getting inked for almost 20 years. Got my first tat when I was 18. I have several tats with a crap load of hours involved from numerous artists. I keep looking for the one artist to stick with but (until now) I haven't found that person.
Typically, I have found most artists to be Pre-Madonna condescending fuck sticks that act like your typical douchebag auto mechanic. Meaning, if you're not one of them, you're an idiot, your ideas are idiotic, and they are god.
I've been wanting a certain tat for about a year now but kept putting it off. Well, Wednesday came around and I got the itch. I googled tattoo shops and started calling them, nearest first.
It was the same bullshit, the smart ass chick that answers the phones being snotty, until I called Tattoo Lab.
Gabriel answered and I said "Hey, how's it going" his reply much to my amazement was "I'm great, how are you?" REALLY? A polite tattoo artist? It only got better from there.
I went down there and the place was really clean and organized. There were two other artists there w clients as well. Cory and a lady named Gor (sp). They too were friendly, smiled, chit chatted a bit.
Gabriel seemed enthusiastic to do my tat, put his artistic spin on it (as I expect because I am not creative), and drew it up. Even though I'm tatted up he explained to me that he is still going to explain the whole procedure because I am new to him/his shop (very thorough).
During the tat, I was amazed at his talent and his experience tattooing. He was making the longest, cleanest, straightest lines u had ever seen. The way he used his tools kept my skin super moist and it didnt ever feel like my skin was scraping off with every wipe of the extra ink.
My tat is currently healing and it is the most comfortable healing I have ever seen. No scabbing, the lines are already fairly smooth, and the tat looks 1000 times better than I imagined. Gabe was hella laid back, we bullshitted, and I had a great time. We discussed my next tat, which will be a cover up, and we scheduled an appointment. I'm super stoked I finally found an artist worth staying with.
Oh and Gor (sp) is hot!!
their work is good and are really just the best dudes across the board. i've gotten a few things from different people, and i always have fun... which is prettty impressive given the discomfort i'm usually in. i don't much care for "hangout" shops, but tattoo lab has a different feel that is very comfortable. i don't live in the bay area anymore, so i don't know that i will be able to go there again, but i wish them the best of luck with everything that they do.
Review Source:There is great work here, got my tattoo covered up beautifully. But my artist was kind of rude. So rude that I went to stay true for my next tattoo, and was surprised to see what kind or service I was missing out on. "Korn dog" did my tattoo, he took 5 hours to do a piece that wasn't even that big. And didn't seem to really care about the customer just his money. Not really the way you want to make someone feel when you're tattooing them. I expect at least decent customer service not someone I feel like is being kind of a dick the whole
time.
