You guys are lucky to have Troy lane working in your shop. I only dealt with him at the old shop that he and Jeff owned but will go where ever Troy goes. Troy Lane, who is now a Tattoos By Lou in Kendall, is the friendliest most genuine guy in the business. The is down to earth and makes you feel like you are at home. He turned me away when I was 18 because I was very undecided and did not know what I was doing. A few years latter I came back to him with a great reference and he inked a great Moko on my left almost took up the entire left side of my lower leg he charged me less then $100/Hour. He then covered up my entire other lower leg with two coy and some waves and flowers....great color work with took 3-4 3 hour sessions and again charged me about $300 per session. He is honest, humble, down to earth and actually funny. Even hooked me up with a free lunch once.
Review Source:Decided to get a small tattoo on my back to commemorate some personal achievements and thought that while I was visiting Miami for work I would check out some of the local Ink-talent.
I was very impressed with the professionalism displayed in the shop and would recommend it to anyone. I also got a free t-shirt for checking in on yelp!
I'M SO PISSED I JUST HAD TO YELP THIS OUT....
Apparently TBL has a policy that they will only retouch a tat at no cost up to 3 times within the first 3 months. Thats VERY fair but there's one problem: NOBODY TOLD ME THIS!!
I noticed early on that my tat was going to need retouching but I wanted to give it enough time to fully heal. Because of my work schedule and a health issue I had, I was unable to go "immediately" after the healing process. I finally made it and after explaining my situation to the manager "MIKE" he told me that because of their policy they would have to charge me $65 to retouch. **My tat cost $80**. As I was telling him that I was not aware or ever told of their policy he interrupted me to say "YOU KNEW...SOMEBODY TOLD YOU...WE ALWAYS TELL EVERYONE".....This sent FIRE through by veins because first of all, he was not present when I got my tat done so if he didn't hear with his OWN DAMN EARS someone tell me this, WHY THE HELL was he so sure of it and nasty with me? I have NO reason to LIE. There's no sign nor was I sent home with ANY papers to inform me of this policy. They might be very consistent at telling customers about their policy but the TRUTH is NO ONE TOLD ME. The guy who did my tat was from overseas and he was CLEARLY - and even said he was - unfamiliar with the way things are done at this shop. He never once mentioned the policy. AND the chick at the front desk was VERY BUSY doing 3 clit piercings plus she was dealing with a girl and her LOUD entourage (kids included) who came in with her to watch her get her 1st tattoo - with all of that going on its VERY understandable if the chick forgot to mention it to me. Had I known about the policy, I wouldn't have wasted my time AND gas driving over there when I did! It just pissed me off because 2 things I'm not is a LIAR or a THIEF so to be accused of lying was VERY offensive and made it EXTREMELY hard to keep my composure.
I feel like even if the manager believed I was told, he could've had a better attitude towards me. Â He could've given me (or at least pretend to give me) the benefit of the doubt OR he could've just had better sense to know that people ARE human so there IS a possibility that someone at the shop may have dropped the ball. But NO...instead he was defensive, nonchalant, and arrogant. After a few minutes of pleading with him and re-explaining my situation he finally offered to give me a free touch-up but ONLY if I get another tattoo. Now If he would've offered me that from the start, I would've done it because a policy is a policy and even though I wasn't told about it, I would've respected the fact that he was at least trying to work with me but since he went the A**HOLE route first and accused me of lying, I rather keep my patchy tattoo and give the business to a place who actually VALUES and RESPECTS their customers.
DEUCES!!
I wanted to cover up an old tattoo to celebrate my birthday and first marathon, so I came to Tattoos by Lou on the recommendation of a friend who had had some work done there. I knew what I wanted and brought a printout of the design. Danny turned the somewhat blurry photo into a photorealistic tattoo that is positively gorgeous. I'm not just saying this because it's my tattoo and it's important to me; someone compliments my ink at least once a day. It's a beautiful piece of art and it's on my skin, forever. So awesome.
The old tattoo is gone and you'd never know it was there if I hadn't told the world in this Yelp review. (My secret's out, I guess.) But anyway, my experience at this shop was very good all around--friendly staff, unbelievably talented artist, very clean and comfortable studio, and good music and interesting conversation to distract me from the pain of shading.
I like the After Inked lotion they give you to put on it and Danny's aftercare instructions were helpful--I had almost no scabbing and it healed perfectly. This was a great experience in every way and if I ever decide to get another tattoo, I know who to call.
Highly recommended.
I got my first tattoo here with Marcelo. I told him my idea of what I wanted and he drew it up nicely. The experience was great no pain and very nice atmosphere. Very clean and professional shop. I recommend this shop to anyone looking to get a tattoo. Ask for Marcelo and you won't be disappointed! Will be coming back soon to finish up my sleeve! I added a photo of my sleeve for reference. Gave it 3 stars because they quoted me one price and then when they already inked me up raised the price on me leaving me with the option of either paying it or leaving with an unfinished tattoo. Very shady. Make sure you get your quote in writing to avoid this.
Review Source:THE GOOD
- Clean shop.
- Decent prices if you go at an off time of day.
- Talented artists.
THE BAD
- Annoying location. At a busy corner right where the right lane merges, and the parking tends to be crowded.
THE UGLY
- Unfriendly staff. They got the job done and were nice enough, but I never felt very comfortable or welcome.
BOTTOM LINE: I would get work done here again because the quality is there, but I'd be willing to shop around for a friendlier artist.
My first experience with Tattoos by Lou was pleasant and my first tattoo was rather simple; but, on my second and most recent visit, I was completely in awe of the skills, technique and professionalism by the lead tattoo artist "Lenny Rodriguez". Â He surpassed my expectations and I am sure he will do the same for you. Â If you want a "good" tattoo go anywhere else...but, for a "great skin art"...go see Lenny. Â The parlor is very clean and very helpful. Â -5 Star Service!!!
Review Source:My artist, Chyloe, is the best. I've been tattooed by other people and he has  the gentlest hands and does beyond excellent work. He is also a cool guy and keeps you entertained while you're getting work done.
All the artists here are talented, nice, and great. They are clean, professional, and do great work- what more you can ask for? I drive from North Miami to get work done here.
You can never go wrong here! Giving only 5 stars because there is nothing higher!
Went to the shop for the first time as a reference from someone and could not be happier with the service. The shop is extremely clean, great service upon entering, very professional, talented artists, great atmosphere.
My artist was Lenny, nice person, very easy to work with, would recommend him on a heartbeat. He does great work in color, drew the design that I wanted exactly as the image that I provided, very precise when tattooing.
Would definitely go back to Lenny for future work.
Both my tattoos I've gotten at this location.
I actually haven't had a consistent artist but after my second tattoo, I'll never go back without an appointment with my guy. Â
I'm telling you that I got a very intricate, precise, and delicate tattoo and the entire time I had to keep reminding myself that this was supposed to be painful. Â The conversation was just so good, that my mind was completely disconnected from my pained nerve endings. Â
I love going here because it doesn't feel filthy like most locations that drunken people go to at 1 in the morning. Â All of the artists have their own personalized studio with their own personal specialties. Going through their portfolios is always fun.
What I can say about price is this, there's nothing wrong with haggling. Â I got my tat cheap and I even gave him comps to see a great Improv show that I participate in. Â Whenever he wants to see a show all's he's got to do is give me a call. Â
Best part is, I get free touch ups. Â The location is convenient so you can go out for drinks later to numb the pain. Â
Big tip for first timers, LISTEN to your tattoo artist when he or she gives you recommendations on the healing process. Â It's VITAL. Â
Yes. Â Tattoos scab, so you WILL peel so don't freak out. Â It hasn't all been a waste of money. Â They didn't overcharge you for a henna. Â
They give great advice, and if you're a regular they treat you like one of their own.
'Wow' is all i have to say.
I got my first tattoo yesterday morning, and found the price to be extremely reasonable. I actually thought the tattoo came out cheaper than what I expected to pay, especially for the quality that I recieved. The place is very clean and you can tell all the artists enjoy what they are doing. My artist was Lenny, and I would recommend him to anyone in a heartbeat. If I decide to get another tattoo, it will definitely be at this location
Ughhh. So, I had to go back because half of my tattoo disappeared within two weeks. I assume it was due to the location (the edge of my foot) and my walking pattern.
Luckily they have a policy that allows for free retouching of anything done in the store. Great...except it HAS to be done by the original artist. I was finally successful, after 3 attempts, to catch him on a day he was there. He was less than thrilled to do the work. There was no apology for the inconvenience. He was observably annoyed at the task.
Why only dock 1 star? I still believe the place is the cleanest around. The other artists there seem pleasant. I like the free touch-up policy. My friend, who originally went with me, is very satisfied with her tattoo.
I have no desire to get another one. However, if I did, I would pick someone other than Chylo.
i have to qualify this review because i am only giving tattoos by lou in kendall 5 stars when jeff was running and managing the studio... Â i got 90% of my work done by jeff... Â his work is on point... Â i haven't been back since jeff left, so that's why i have to qualify my review... Â this studio is pretty iconic in miami... Â chris nunez of miami ink used to tat here... Â this used to be a pretty cool studio to hang out at and get some nice work done... Â h-100...
