Man, I am so disappointed in my experience with this shop.
I live in Farmington, and since I was going to be in town yesterday I asked if I could drop by to get a consultation on a tattoo from an artist in another state that I would like reworked. I have heard great, great things about this shop, and the vibe inside of the shop is wonderful. Having browsed through the portfolios online, I sent the shop a Facebook message asking if I set up a time to talk with either Nic or Bob. Both of those artists had work in their portfolio similar to what I was looking for. Ty responded to my facebook message and told me to swing by the shop, so I let him know I'd be there between 4 and 5.
The gist of our conversation was this: despite having left work an hour early so that I could get to the shop in time, there weren't any artists around to talk to me. According to Ty, Bob was busy tattooing and Nic had bolted once his appointment was done. Since there weren't any artists around, I couldn't get a price quote. If I wanted a sketch done, I'd need to leave a $100 deposit. The deposit is non-refundable.
But what if I don't like what the artist draws up?
"We're not going to give you a tattoo unless you're totally stoked about it."
But the deposit is non-refundable?
"Yeah, it holds your appointment."
But I haven't even talked to an artist yet.
"I can show them what you e-mailed me and then they can take over e-mailing you."
No way, dude. Leaving a non-refundable $100 deposit when I can't even meet a tattoo artist or talk to him or her about the artwork? The whole reason I went to the shop was so that an artist could see the current tattoo in person. Did I miss something here? How on earth does that make sense?
Mainly I just feel jipped because everyone else raves about their experience with this shop, but I left feeling like they didn't particularly care to have my business.
Before I moved, I stopped in at Your Flesh to take advantage of their Friday the 13th tattoo special. Â I was one of the first people in line, so I got a coupon for a free tattoo! Â Unbelievable! Â So I got a koi fish on the small of my back. Â Yes, I have a fish tramp stamp. Â Woo hoo.
The tattooist did a fantastic job! Â I was nervous with all the people watching - and even a local news writer there. Â I was asked a few questions about my tattoos and why I was getting the fish. Â I was in the newspaper. Â Kinda cool... a very small town-y thing to do.
So, there was another Friday the 13th special, and again, I showed up early... but not early enough for a freebie. Â Oh well, it was still super cheap and I tipped well anyway. Â This time, I got a lotus blossom near an existing tattoo.
Let me tell you that whatever ink they use... it's permanent! Â The two tattoos that I had done here are the only ones I have that aren't fading already (and I have 23 and counting). Â The reds are vibrant, the whites pop, and the yellow... yes, it's still yellow. Â Oh, and the black is BLACK, not kinda black, kinda gray.
AWESOME TATTOO SHOP!!!!!! Â I wish tattoo parlors in Chicago had deals like they did!
I went in there for a black and grey back piece tat and a PLAIN, NO COLOR, NO NOTHING OUTLINE of a Harley-Davidson bar and shield on my neck. Before I knew it, my black and grey back piece was FULL of color and there were little scratchy looking things inside of the bar and shield on my neck that the artist said looked like chrome. It hardly looked like chrome -- it looked more like a five-year-old had gotten ahold of a tat gun and went nuts with it. I went back and told him to go ahead and color it in with orange to try to cover up those scratchy marks so he colored it in with BLUE. Unbelievable.
I was quoted $700 and it ended up costing me $1400, too.
There's nothing I can do about the color on my supposed-to-be grey and black back piece but I was able to get the not-so-plain, scratchy looking bar and shield covered up by a great artist -- unfortunately, it's MUCH larger than I really had wanted it to be but my only other choice was to have that ugly scratchy looking thing on my neck removed. I would NEVER go there EVER again.
We were coming from a visit in Pagosa Springs and decided to take a stop in Durango to eat. Â We came across this place because I saw 3 local chicks with great earings (the wood crazy beautiful type) and asked someone where they got them... We went up these great stairs to one of the most original looking tattoo shops I have seen. Â They had every type and style of body jewelry you can imagine. Â The manager was super nice and helpful. So were the other guys working there for that matter. Â So many dudes at some shops have that Im cool shitty attitude which was nowhere to be found in this shop. Â I loved it. Â Next time we head out there we will have to stop long enough for one of us to get some ink.
Review Source:The first out of about 5 places I found who were willing to do a white-ink tattoo on me.
Plus, they don't have any flash which is something I really find redeemable in a tattoo shop---sets them apart from cheap churning-out -identical-tats stores.
You usually have to make a reservation in person to get a tattoo, but I had some time to kill so after meeting with them I came back in an hour and got it done. They were all so cool and wanted me to send in pictures of how my tattoo turned out, which I still need to do, oops!
The only downside to this place is that it makes me want to get more tattoos!
