Welcoming staff and great atmosphere.  This was my first time, and I could not have been more freakin' excited over the results. A true artist can pull a clients vision from their mind and translate it into a visual work of art.  Jesse you ROCK!  Watch out Ed Hardy!! Jesse's bringing back the tribal with color.

Right off the bat I will take some of the responsibility for not being happy with my tattoo. I have two existing half-sleeves as well as another tattoo, so I do have a little knowledge about having work done. About three weeks ago I went in based on a recommendation to have the initials of two family members who've passed tattooed on the inside of my wrist done in fine line. When I explained what I wanted to the gentleman behind the counter, he replied "no problem" but came back a few minutes later and asked if I would mind having a "guest artist" do the work (mistake number one). I agreed and spoke to the person who was going to do the work. We went back and forth over size and fonts but he kept drawing the initials too large. I asked him repeatedly to make them smaller but he simply replied "it can't be done" (mistake number two). We finally agreed on the size and font and he set to work. He certainly was polite enough, seemed competent, I paid for the tat ($100 for six letters) and left. Three weeks later I now seriously regret letting a "guest artist" work on me. The lines aren't sharp at all, I definitely wouldn't consider it to be fine line work and there's a halo effect around all the letters. Maybe he had too much caffeine that morning, who knows? The bottom line is that I am now looking at laser removal procedures in hopes that most (if not all) the damage can be rectified so I can have someone competent do the work. As mentioned earlier, I have two half-sleeves and both of them have very fine lines that still remain sharp almost 16 years later. Sorry guys but my guess is you let someone who's just starting out mess up the work on one of your customers. You may want to screen your "guest artists" a little more thoroughly in the future.

I don't know much about piercings, but when I spoke to Chris on the phone, he was really nice and was knowledgeable.  I took my teenage daughter to have her tragus pierced, and Chris did a great job!  He's professional and makes it a point to check ID's, which tells me he takes his business seriously.

Jesse did my tattoo over two sessions.  I told him what I wanted and he came back with exactly that.  Pleasant and friendly along with all the other folks.  I will be going back soon.

Nick is really good. Thee best. A few of my co-workers have pieces by him so I thought I'd test him out as well. Test him out with a permanent tattoo lol. I got "Carpe Diem" written on the side of my left hand. He's very talented. Although it's only a month old, I have little pieces I need retouched. Nick fully explained that I might need it retouched seeing as how it is located on tough skin on the side of my hand.

Super happy with my tattoo! THANKS KEVIN!

Friendly staff, clean locale, little tough to park (but CVS I'm sure didn't mind! Ha!).

I walked in, and was helped immediately, and then we worked on the design until I was happy. The tattoo was perfect and didn't take long at all. I was very impressed!

Will be back again I'm sure!

    Thanks guys!

Fist of all, if you are reading any of the bad reviews... please disregard and learn some tattoo etiquette. Tattooing your skin is only a fraction of the time and dedication a tattoo artist puts in. When you go in for a consultation, damn right you better be paying for a deposit. People are more then happy to pay a plastic surgeon to talk about their future boob job, so why is there a problem with an artist pay a whomping $20. (which for the record is super inexpensive, my boyfriend charges $200)Have the same respect as you do for the guy in the lab coat as the guy that looks just like you with tattoos because,  after you leave that shop they are doing drawing after drawing to get exactly what you want. Lets see, what's more personal tattoo or a boobjob?

Even though my boyfriend is a tattoo artist himself, I have a soft spot for this shop since they did my first tattoo. Thanks Chuck, your the best!!!

Last time I was at the shop, I noticed they offer piercings, and I've always wanted my nose pierced. They sent me right over to the piercer, I think his name is Chris. Let me tell  you people I am the biggest puss with needles. Chris was so professional and so educated on his craft, it didn't even phase me. And the best part about it, it didn't even hurt. My eyes teared a bit and that was all.

So if you are look for a kick ass shop with dedicated artist, for sure come here.

I have been getting tattooed at Third Street since they opened. I followed my artist, Jeff, from a former location. The shop is clean and comfortable. A few reviewers have complained about a lack of customer service. First of all, I have not witnessed that. Second of all, this is a tattoo shop, not Nordstrom. Be realistic!

A few words about tattoo artist Jeff Thielman... His work is amazing. I've been getting tattooed from him for a period of 15 years, slowly but surely. I do not hesitate to recommend him. He is extremely professional, very healthy, and a talented artist. I trust his judgement about what will look good. I constantly get compliments on his work. He is excellent with color, and after many years the color is holding strong on my skin. His tattoos heal well, (take care of them), and his line work does not blur over time like some other tattoos I've seen. I fully intend to finish my sleeves with him. Why shop around when I've found the best? Now, go get tattooed!

Wow. Where to start? I visited this shop on the recommendation of a co-worker. My lady and I get there on a Thursday afternoon, to find the shop devoid of clients and a few guys sketching on pads in the back. I meet with the guy I'm there to see and explain what I'm hoping to get done. The guy instantly tells me he needs a tattoo deposit and a $20 fee for drawing my concept. Sounded strange to me. But I made an appointment and gave him $20. No deposit though. I'm crazy not stupid. Then we went around the corner and down the street to Hermosa Ink. As soon as I walked in the door, I knee I wasn't going back to 3rd Street ink.
Also, they don't take credit cards. And I refuse to carry large amounts of cash.

First impressions are everything in this world, this place certainly lacks that. I went into 3rd St Tatt for a piercing something small & simple. My experience started soon as i entered the door, understandably the two guys were busy working up front with clients so i didnt expect a speedy response. One guy hollered out back to say there was a customer so i waited for the guy to come help me. 10+mins i sat for to be confronted by a rude obnoxious guy whos first words were "have u been helped" with a typical hermosa beach tattoo artist "im better then u" attitude. I asked if anyone was available for a piercing on the cartilage part on my ear, straight away i could tell he didnt want to do it. He said "ohhhh erm let me go see if we can do that area. Again i waited... It must be like Narnia out the back of their shop. He eventually came back and responded with "yea we dont have the jewelry for that area". That was it, no sorry or come back another day or any means of making this small visit any more pleasant. But still i thanked him & left knowing i will never go back. I wanted to give them benefit of the doubt as i saw online the art work (defo not a fan of their work at all so no tatts from here for sure) piercings are simple but obviously not for this shop. So unfortunately nothing positive to write a review upon.

I should give these guys one star, because they keep taking all of my boyfriend's money, they do great work though... so five stars it is.

My bf decided after many years of not getting another tattoo that it was time.  He started at another shop & then we made the rounds for a larger piece that he wanted to get on his side.  He spoke to both Josh & Jesse (there ate a lot of J names here) at 3rd Street Tattoo & ended up working with Josh first on the side piece.  It is a GIANT (and apparently painful) Cthulhu.  The tattoo took three sessions & looks really amazing... all green & blue & creepy!  I think Josh said he has been tattooing for 13 years.

Apparently, that wasn't enough, because the bf went back for more.  This time he worked with Jesse over a couple of sessions on some traditional nautical stuff.  The color is wonderful.  Jesse is your go to guy for traditional.

I'm sure there are many more trips to 3rd Street in my future.  See you soon guys!
