It seems like everyone I know goes here for their work, so it was a no-brainer. Â I got my latest tattoo here & it was a really smooth overall experience. Â I arrived right at opening (noon) on a Sunday & had no wait. Â They even opened up the front door 5 minutes early for me. Â The place is very clean and, yeah, I'll say it, "respectable" looking.
Kasper was my artist, quoted a fair price and did a great job. Â I knew exactly what I wanted but did make some modifications based on what he felt wouldn't work as well. Â I appreciated that he didn't just do exactly what I asked without being practical - I wanted work that's going to last and look good forever, so I value the input from my ink technician.
Even though I've had tattoos before, I was still really nervous, but Kasper was great. Â He was really friendly, non-intimidating, and talkative to my friend and me. Â Of course it hurt, but the time flew by because it was such a fun experience (and it helps that Kasper's pretty easy to look at).
I would probably prefer more space (the stations are all sort of crammed into one little area), but I'm guessing they reserve private rooms for work on the more, uh, 'personal' places.
Why is this not a 5 star review? Â Well, I'll let you know in a month when this piece is fully healed. Â I'm just trying to be practical & objective.
Regardless, I'm already planning my next one(s), and, at this time, will certainly not hesitate to come back to All Star :)
What a friendly and helpful staff! I went in to get my daith pierced (saw it on Pinterest) with a heart. When I go into a tattoo and piercing store I feel like I am "just" getting a piercing and it is not that big of a deal to others that have 10 piercings and many tattoos but they made me feel like my piercing was important. I have no other piercings and no tattoos.
Kenny, a guest piercer, was so sweet and talked me through the whole process. It did not hurt at all! He was so great and professional with every step of the piercing process.
I went in for a 3rd tattoo (first time there) with a friend. Â We were getting the same flower but in different colors and places. Â The artist that was to do my ink took a photo and a drawing of the flower in the back to make a stencil. Â When he came out I told him I liked the design but wanted them to look a little more life like rather than "traditional". Â He said not a problem he could do that while working. Â I asked his opinion about placement and he just kind of brushed me off. Â I realize he had been working for hours at that time but still would have liked a little more participation. Â My tattoo came out traditional not life like. Â It's not a terrible tattoo but not what I wanted. Â I just felt very brushed aside and not important. I realize I should have spoken up but felt like he was the professional and should have guided me even though the process.
Review Source:So, I moved to the stl area a couple of years ago, from southern MO. I have had an itch to get another tattoo & was too scared to trust someone in the area. Mostly bc I don't know many people & the ones I do aren't inked up. Also, I had 6 tattoos & all of them had been done by the same person back home. Anyway, I recently reached a milestone in my weight loss journey (100 pounds lost) & decided to reward myself with a tattoo to signify my weight loss. I came on yelp & decided to check out All star bc they really good reviews. I was still CRAZY nervous even when I came in to talk to someone. But the guy at the front desk is super nice & I spoke with Luke about my tattoo & he made me feel very comfortable & like he knew what he was doing. Didn't hurt that he was doing a huge, very detailed tattoo on a girl as I was talking to him as well. Anyway... Long story short, he drew up a picture exactly as I had wanted. & before I knew it... I had a new addition... Which just so happens to be my favorite tattoo of all time. During the tattoo process he talked & sang & made it a lot less awkward & painful than it could have been. &... The best part is he's not heavy handed. It didn't hurt any more than it had too. So, if you're looking to get a tattoo... Please take my word, the word of a SUPER picky, spastic woman who doesn't trust just any tattoo artist... & go see all star. Ask for Luke. But, even if he's unavailable... The rest of the crew busted out some great work while I was there. But, Luke def has a customer for life. Oh..... & I forgot to mention.... They are VERY, VERY reasonably priced. I had anticipated much more than what I ended up paying. & I didn't not get a small tattoo. I even felt like i jipped him on a tip bc I loved my new tattoo so much, that I ended up sending him cash in the mail. I'm that impressed. Lol. (I'm not creepy, swear. Haha) Anyway... They could def charge more, considering how good they are. But I think that speaks a lot about their character. Just can't brag on this place enough. Go there. Now!
Review Source:I was ready for my second tattoo and had found, roughly, the Phoenix design I wanted. I pulled a version of it off the Internet, printed it out and wandered over to Iron Age on the Loop. The guy at the counter was all set to slap this thing on me as is and even wanted me to go find a better print out that didn't have some of the lines trailing off the page. I asked him why he couldn't just clean that up when he re-drew it and also indicated I thought the design itself could use some improvement. He said, no way. I left disappointed and annoyed -- the guy effectively killed my enthusiasm.
I drove to All-Star -- the difference was night and day. I was greeted at the counter by someone who was a) smiling and b) didn't treat me like a moron. He set me up with Ed, who was amazing throughout the entire process! Ed took the time to talk to me about how I wanted the design to fit (wrapping around my right hip). He traced the outline of my hip with tracing paper so he could re-draw the Phoenix so the angles looked good on me, and he improved the design itself, made it more fluid to pair better with my pre-existing tattoo. I left our consult elated and couldn't wait for appt. day.
Ed executed what I wanted better than I could have imagined. The three and a half hours flew by (or as much as they can when someone's got a needle to your flesh), and the end result has amazing movement! I couldn't be happier and wouldn't hesitate to recommend Ed and All-Star to anyone looking for a positive experience.
I recently had my first tattoo done at the ripe old age of 48. Â I had been toying with the idea for about 10 years, but just wasn't ready to do it. Â I chose All Star, because my daughter had one done there, and because I know Alan Thompson and trust him. Â First thing: Â the place is immaculate and super open. Â Rob Johnson was my artist, and he created a beautiful script tattoo for me (no computer fonts, all Rob's freehand), for my lower side. Â Rob explained the whole process to me, we had great conversation the entire time, and I was completely thrilled with his work. Â He is creating my next and last tattoo, and I can't wait to see it. Â Loved the whole experience. Â Everyone was very friendly, Â and I would recommend this place to anyone!
Review Source:I had a tattoo on my side that needed to be fixed. Not only did Ryan take the time to really figure out the best method to cover what needed help, he wanted to make sure that I was happy with the changes before he tattooed me.
We went back and forth on different options before deciding on one that turned out fabulous. The rest of the staff was helpful and encouraging with everything. It's always difficult to spend time and money on a tattoo you have to get fixed a year and a half later, but I'm glad I came to All Star. Great group! I'll be back!
What in the whaaa? So I know it's 2011, and getting a tattoo is not a big deal anymore, but for this girl, it was HUGE.
I knew that for my first (and probably only) tattoo, I'd want it to be something that held some significance to me.
So anyway...I thought of something that was really important to me. I grabbed my sister (who happens to know her way around tattoos!), and we headed to AllStar.
Like everyone else said, the place is meticulously clean. I felt immediately at ease, other than...you know -- the buzzing of the tattoo guns. Ahhh! That sound freaks me out!
Since my tattoo was small and simple, I didn't need to make an appointment. The girl simply asked what I wanted done, and I told her. Then my tattoo artist, Andy, came out and introduced himself. I told him what I wanted, and he listened carefully and asked me a few follow up questions.
Then he went to the back to draw up something for me.
After a few minutes, he came out with a sketch. We tweaked it a bit until it was exactly what I wanted, and then we went back to his station.
I plopped on the chair, gritted my teeth, and Andy went to work. There may have been some squealing. My sister thought it was funny enough to get on video. I'll kill her if it ever gets out.
Before I knew it, the tattoo was done. Seriously -- 2 minutes. It hurt, but it wasn't the worst pain in my life. And Andy did a great job and was completely professional.
He handed me some paperwork on tattoo care, and I paid and was on my way!
I stare at my ink every chance I get. I'm so in love with it. It's perfect. I couldn't have asked for a better experience.
Welp, not much to say that's not already been said.
I went here for nipple piercings. Did me and my friends nipple piercings at the same time and gave us a discount for us both coming in. It came out to like...4 boobies for the price of 3, or something.
Unfortunately I don't remember the name of the artist or the price (this is what happen when you try to review a place 2 years later) but I remember it being reasonable.
Good experience. Friendly, knowledgable staff. I was there a few times for various things, whether it be piercings or follow-ups/jewelry changes and such, and they were always very sweet and welcoming (unlike SOME places that act like it's a chore when I want to give them my business). The price was right. Clean. Professional. Non-judgmental. UNPRETENTIOUS. Take that, Iron Age.
If I still lived in West Co, this would be my go-to place. But now Cheap Trx is right in the neighborhood, so I'm going to try them out next.
I would've given them 5 stars, but I don't really have anything to compare them to...therefor the 4.  But what a great 4 they are!!!  I went and got my  I was scared chitless first tattoo a couple days ago.  I had my design in my hot little trembling hand and went there all by my lil lonesome self.  I felt so out of place going there as either everyone in there or going in there was already inked and much younger than me. I was a little scared ink virgin!
The women at the counter were very nice and a few young kids who were waiting with me outside were very cool and encouraging. Â Shout out to Christopher and Luke and their buddy (sorry I forgot your name, man!) Â The place was very neat and clean, licenses were displayed on the walls, and of course all of the display art and books. Â People they were all so encouraging telling me how it might feel, how to care for it, etc.
Ended up getting Luke and although his sense of humor was a bit dry, the man was cool! Â I had an audience of people watching me and cheering me on as I got inked and they even clapped for me when it was done. Â Luke was amazingly quick and very good at turning my sheet of paper into my living art. Â
I highly recommend going here and Luke? I'll be back!
Awesome people, a little cheaper on the price compare to CheapTrx but it has a comparable quality of works. Bought few jewelry from them and they were pretty reasonable. Took few friends to get a tattoo, (they chose this place) and the results was amazing. Nice friendly people, great selections, the place could be bigger and a little bit more private because if I ever get a tattoo I'd like to be in a private room where I can cry and won't be seen by a lot of people but overall a great tattoo parlor.
Also the receptionist girls are amazingly friendly, there used to be a girl named Emily who worked there who was unbelievably helpful. Ryan was an amazing staff as well who helped my friends' and I. Answered every single questions to the tee and upfront about prices.
It's been a while since I've been here, so it might be better, but this place charges an unnecessary amount for piercings and tattoos. It's definitely clean and you'll get what you want, but to me it lacks character.
It is a convenient place to go if you're out shopping, but it's worth the buck to go somewhere more affordable.
Omar has done my two pieces, and he's also done one for my girlfriend. Â The shop is great, and all of the artists are really cool and experienced- I've not seen a piece that I haven't been impressed with. Â I got my first one there, and even though it could have been a bad or nerve racking experience, everyone in the shop made me feel at home. It's a shop that everyone will feel comfortable in- from a teenage girl to folks covered from head to toe- and everyone has a great time. Â I think the only days that you can walk in without an appointment is Sat.- the rest of the time is by appt. only. Â If you want some in, this is the place to do it.
Review Source:My first tattoo experience was a really good one. Whew! After hearing many friends tell stories of  tattoo artists (in general) who tend to be  cocky and jerky and ruining their first experience at getting a tattoo, I tried to do my research first. I didn't want to feel like a piece of cattle, walking in- getting inked and shoved back out the door.
I'm very glad I picked All Star because I experienced NONE of that.
I wouldn't say I bonded with anyone there- but the girl behind the counter was friendly and didn't give any bad vibes. I came in an entire month in advance with some ideas- and Rob ended up helping me out. I explained everything I wanted and set my appointment a month later (I doubt that he was booked that far in advance, I just wanted it the next month). I paid the $20 deposit for an appointment and left him with my ideas & printouts for him to sketch up.
I came back one week prior to my appt with some more artwork to further tweak the design and he seemed cool with it.
When I went to my appointment, I was worried I might not like what he'd sketched - but I loved it. Everything else went smoothly. He didn't seem to mind I had 4 friends staring down at him working, and he promised to let us know if it bothered him. He was rather quiet during the 2 hours, but still seemed concerned with my comfort level. He seemed like a really nice guy.
So yay! Good experience and a gorgeous tattoo! I've joined the club now ;)
A friend of mine who wants to get a tattoo came up to keep me company and to watch how tattooing goes down.
I needed some cover up work done. I wanted it done soon, so I just made an appointment for the soonest slot, which was with Rob (INSTANT GRATIFICATION, people!). He was still working on someone else when I got there, which is pretty standard. After that was wrapped up, he came out with my piece already perfectly drawn. He stuck it on me and went to work.
I think I sort of fell in love with Rob last night, and I can't recommend going to him enough. He told me he usually only schedules his appointments a week out, rather than scheduling months in advance like you would for one of the other artists there. Â
He was nice to my friend who had lots of questions and watched for the entire 4.5 hour sitting. High five, Rob!
All Star specializes in custom work, so if you need something drawn, these are your guys. If I understand correctly, they prefer to do custom work Mon-Thurs with occasional walk-ins (small tattoos). Friday and Saturday, they do mostly walk-ins. They also have someone who comes in to do tattoo lightenings, if you need/want a cover up or to remove a tattoo.
After spending some more time there, I am happy to tell you that I would trust any of these guys with my tattoos. If you want to see the work Rob did, feel free to check out my pics.
You have no excuses now. Go get your ink!
I did ALOT of research. Â I am seriously SUPER psyched about how my tats turned out. Â The staff is knowledgeable, the place is spotless, and everyone is so kind and fun. Â Jason ROCKED my tats on both my feet. He helped me design it, and i really had a blast working with him.... Â i am THRILLED. All Star knows how to work it....
Review Source:The majority of ink on my body is from All Star. Â I'm not covered, but I do have quite a bit that becomes more obvious in warmer months (like now) when less is being hidden by sweaters. Â
A large portion of my tattoos were done by someone who no longer works there, Carrie, who now works at Evermore in Edwardsville. Â Although I have been sad about her absense (and yes, I could go to Edwardsville, but I don't really want to and I hear she's usually booked far in advance), I have not been deterred from going there. Â The artists are generally good, not creepy, and even friendly. Â I feel like sometimes that is hard to say about tattoo parlors. Â
They're really ethical and I've seen them turn people down for being underage. Â I think that happens quite a bit. Â Also, the shop is always clean, which earns big points. Â After all, a sterile environment is probably one of the most important things on the checklist for a good tattoo shop. Â
They do have a lot of flash on the walls if you're interested in that, but I would highly suggest bringing in something or at least the idea for something and they'll help you and and modify it to make it work for you.
This is a great place to go for your tattoo or piercing needs! Â
The staff is friendly and they know their stuff! Â They work with you to make sure that your tattoo is exactly what you want.
The shop is decorated in a very cool and creative way and there is plenty of flash art so that you can find just the right artwork to make into your tattoo. They have a sizable variety of body jewelry too!
The artists Nate, Omar, Luke, Dustin, Chelsea and Jeremy are all extremely talented. Their work is some of the best in the STL area!
The piercer, Jason, is great at what he does and can help you pick out the body jewelry that will best suit your piercing!
And Miss Molly is FAB!
No egos, no divas...just straight up cool and professional!!
