If you're in the market for an awesome artist  Daniel Cervantes is the guy to see! He's extremely talented and attentive. He's very professional and friendly. I started my sleeves with another artist at another shop but Daniel definitely blows my pervious art out of the water so it goes without saying I'm a loyal client and look forward for him to complete my sleeves! Daniel is the type of artist that will take his time to make sure you're getting a quality tattoo, he's not the "Get in the chair, get out" type. The shop overall is a nice clean space and the other artists I met while I was there are also professional and friendly and they all get along so the atmosphere is light and comfortable. But hey go check out this amazing shop for yourself, you won't be disappointed.
Review Source:I can't say enough awesome things about my experience here. Â I was referred by several friends of mine who've had great work done on them by Bo Adams (the owner) over the past few years. Â
I made an appointment to meet with Bo to get a custom design on a gryphon tattoo. Â He spent tons of time going over ideas and images with me until we really figured out where to go with it. Â We started with the linework, etc. the first night, did the shading/ color one week later, and it came out beautifully! Â Bo really knows how to work color for texture and depth. Â
Bottom line: If you want custom work, come see Bo. Â Admittedly, he can be a little bit hard to chase down at times, but it's totally worth it!
Side note...my friend came with me to the color session and ended up getting a very pretty lotus from Daniel. Â He was super friendly and she was very happy with her results as well.
In regards to the negative Friday the 13th. review. What do you expect when you get to a packed shop at 8pm. I got there before six and didn't get out until two a.m. The girl at the front did her best to get everyone in. Sorry you had a bad night. Better luck next time. And as far as telling everyone to go to any other shop just proves you know jack shit about the tattoo shops around L.A. Stop crying. I've had nothing but positive experiences there and have been treated with nothing but respect.
Review Source:I just had my 3rd ear lobe piercing done by Travis. He did a great job. I'm a very picky person so he spent a good 10 minutes finding the perfect location on my ear for me. He was actually in a middle of doing some guys tattoo but he did my piercing and then continued. He is seriously the best. I will definitely come back to him. Thanks Travis!!
Review Source:I had been looking into getting a tattoo for some time, but had not found the right tattoo artist. Luckily I spoke to my cousin who gave me  Daniel Cervantes number. I gave him a call and right away set up my appt. Made the drive from Long Beach to North Hollywood, finally got there and met Daniel. I told him what I what wanted, 'Mucho Bastante"(a lot, a whole lot), personal meaning, he gave me his thought on what he thought would look best... I took my font that I wanted placed on me, it was sick!!
He did his drawing, laid the stencil, started doing his work. Daniel Cervantes was super easy to talk to, felt like I got to know the guy. Work was done on my left front shoulder part by collarbone, shit hurt a little... We went ahead and added some lips, I cant even describe the work when he was done, beyond beautiful, LOL!! Â I was super excited to show it off!!
It was a great price, for great work... The writing was the best part, I've been getting so many compliments... Call the shop and ask for Daniel Cervantes, he's usually only there on the weekends, but call him for dope work. Daniel, thanks a million, it was and still is a great showing!!
The shop is located in a decent section in North Hollywood with plenty to do around it while waiting to get your tattoo or for a friend! There's always street parking available as well as parking in a lot behind the building. I love the way the interior of the shop is sectioned off so that each artist has their own area. It definitely gives you more of a comfortable vibe.
As mentioned in previous comments there is some attitude, but that's part of the tattoo industry in general, so you should probably get used to it. Monster does all my tattoo's and unlike previous comments , I've never had a problem with his work, and if I ever did I know that he'd offer to fix it willingly. He's started both my sleeves and I wouldn't trust just anyone on that.
Make sure you check out and "like" the Electric Pen facebook (<a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Felectricpentattoo&s=a0937677cee1acd27961c923d329f058946e6a49549e386a70557a263ac17c2a" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://www.facebook.com/…</a>)as they sometimes run deals/special offers here!
They got good reviews so I went in. I had a review I wrote right after the experience which I have since removed since I am now reviewing post healing. I just wanted a simple black heart. It was drawn on crooked and done a bit hastily. But I was ok with it.. then this piece healed awful. It was all blotchy. I went to get a new piece this weekend and a touch up on the heart and the guy told me that I was actually scarred in those areas. Good work electric pen! its just a black heart and you managed to scar the heck out of me.
They werent super friendly, but it was cheap. I wouldnt go back because of the scarring and cause it has that 'im cooler than you cause i work herre' attitude to it.
This was my second tattoo experience and let me tell you it was awesome... The first time left me hesitant from actually getting one... worst pain of my  life! Danny was just amazing gentle as gentle as can be while getting a tattoo and totally personable! I recommend coming to electric pen and for sure will be letting my peeps know about this place! :)
Review Source:Got some new work done at Electric Pen and I can tell you that YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED! Gotten work by Mr. Monster and Danny Vasquez and stellar top of the line work.  Both of these guys are amazing and professorial. Attentive down to earth and no attitude or bullS*** like you get in other places. Up front and honest about What would  be best and the price. They listen to what I wanted and offered their artistic input to make the tats I got perfect!  Shop looks hot too. Clean and very cool, laid back. I can not say enough good things about this place. Hit up Mr. Monster and Danny Vasquez. Amazing guys!
Review Source:This place is HORRIBLE! we read reviews on yelp and they were favorable so we decided to get a very small tattoo done here one night. Well not only did Angel, the "artist" have an attitude, his work was SHABBY and amateur to say the least. We had the artwork all laid out and it was about a 2 inch design and he managed to screw it up while having attitude. I DO NOT recommend this place or this amateur tattoo crook. Also they say they take credit cards but demanded cash BEFORE the work was done. Be warned!
Review Source:Eric! Love him!.... hella cool dude...talented. will probably have him do my 1/2 sleeve.... gentle technique and fast..... did what i asked for .... even touched up an older tat for me.... the shop was very clean and simple....only $50 bucks damage (gave him a well deserved $20 tip too). was in and out in about 20 min's....
got ink on my ring finger. ***posted pics***
I'm coming back E! two more weeks....
Until now, I've had all my work done by the same amazing tattoo artist. Â Except one, which is the reason I never ventured away from my favorite shop. Â I have always made appointments in the past, but I woke up Sunday and decided I wanted a tattoo, so I went to Electric Pen.
Danny Vasquez was awesome, did a simple but beautiful illustration of a photo I had saved on my phone, which was exactly what I wanted. Â Very talented and has a wide range of tattoo styles in his portfolio. Â He and the other artists offered great customer service and a really relaxed environment. Â Inexpensive and he offers free touch-ups on Sundays and Mondays.
I will definitely be heading back to Electric Pen and Danny Vasquez for more work in the future!
No reason to go anywhere else... for anything! With 4 very different and very skilled artists in-house and a piercer, all of your needs can be met in one place. They are all great collaborators and I've spent time talking to all of them and looking at their work. Bo is my artist. His work is phenomenal and the rates will blow your mind (in the best way). I recommend this place to people on a weekly basis :)
Review Source:I love this place! I got my first (and so far only) tattoo here. I was shaky and nervous when I walked through the door, but after talking with Danny about the design I had in mind and making the appointment, I was practically dancing with excitement. When I came in the next day, I was absolutely thrilled with what he had drawn up for me and was ready to get inked. The tattoo itself came out beautifully, and I couldn't wait for it to heal so I could show it off. The price was also a lot better than I'd expected. If I get another tattoo, this is where I'm coming.
Review Source:Tried calling ahead to make an appointment as the owner had done this really awesome sleeve for a friend of mine. Not only would they NOT take my appointment over the phone, but they took my info down and never called me back. My friend even called the owner and gave him my name and info, and I still didn't hear back. It wouldn't have been a problem if I'd been told they were booked but I never heard from anyone.
Since I didn't get a tattoo here, I can't speak for their work. What I've seen has been great, but with the issues just getting an appointment, I wouldn't recommend.
It took my forever to find an Old School/Sailor Jerry/Traditional tattoo artist in the Los Angeles area. Finally one drunken night I decided to jump online and look for any kind of tattoo shop, close to Burbank, Â to tattoo my wife's initial on my finger. I stumbled on to the Electric Pen Tattoo myspace page and instantly fell in love with Pogo's and Danny's traditional tattoo work. I raced over and made an appointment for the next day. I have been getting tattooed by Pogo since April 09. We are working on sleeving me up one piece at a time. The work speaks for itself. Not a day passes by that my tatts get complimented on. Such a great artist at a very very reasonable price! I will never go to another artist again!
Review Source:Bad Ass! i finally got new ink, its been quite a few years since i've gotten anything done, and even better, i got it from "POGO" my brother who is now a pretty recognized tattooer these days. We set up my appointment at 2pm, being his first appointment of the day is probably a good idea, its when a tattooer is fresh and ready to focus and concentrate. The mood is not yet stale from hours of tattooing nautical stars and tribal bands on dumb assess. The shop was really clean and my ink came out, well better than i had even thought it would... then again, this is someone i grew up with and spent the better time of our adolescence pushing boundaries of our minds, of art and of life all together... awesome experience to get marked for life from someone who's been such a long part of it.
The ink has taken to my skin, and the craft-work of it all was superb to any other, compared to the few tattoo experiences i've had... in his own words, "finally you're gonna get some real skin art fucker". And so it went, after about 5 test placements and two stencils, it was time to find that "happy place" beyond the buzzing and grinding of that machine. After about an hour of what felt like dental surgery on my arm and it was finished, and the final product, well lets just say he "hooked a brutha up". His rates start at $75 an hour, awesome style, coloring that pops off your skin, and crafted with Diligence.
I'd seen the shop several times as I live in the neighborhood, and I always wondered about how their work was. I checked them out here on Yelp and was very pleased to find what a great reputation they have! So last week some friends and I decided to go in and check them out in person. Boy am I glad I did!
My artist was Justin who's talent lies in black and gray (which is JUST what I was looking for). He was super helpful and very easy to talk to about what we wanted. He made us all feel right at home and that's something really important to me! I've been to other shops in the past where I've been made to feel as if I'm not cool enough to be there, or I've had my tattoo rushed through as if I'm just another number. Justin really took the time and effort to make my tattoo JUST the way I wanted it. I highly recommend that you go and check out some of his beautiful work!
THANK YOU JUSTIN!!!
Let me sum this up: If you're looking to get tattooed you NEED to check this place out! They have a bunch of different artists that specialize in different styles, so there's sure to be an artist for whatever you need! The shop is clean, prices are VERY reasonable, and the customer service here is unmatched!
Absolutely the best tattoo shop in the valley, The Electric Pen has a really talented, gifted A-Team of Artists and all very cool dudes... weather your looking for traditional/Old school to portraits or what ever your imagination can conjure up.
I personally prefer  old school style so my artist is Danny Boy, but I've seen the works of other artist at the shop, you just can't go wrong. Bo is another great artist very talented and Pogo is amazing, he can tattoo anything and pierce you too, the place is very cool, very unique and plays a really cool mix of music so you can chill, relax and enjoy the moment.
everyone at the shop made my first tattoo experience a pleasant one.
my artist was Pogo who i recommend. he was great. and the work speaks for itself.
everyone is friendly.
i'd brought my ipod for entertainment but the music they were playing was just great. and the price, well, i was blown away. i most definitely will be coming back for my next pieces.
thanks Pogo and Electric Pen.
soul train =)
The shop is owned by an artist named Bo who does world class custom tattoos. Â He's a super nice guy who is a real artist and loves to collaborate. Â Bo has done several tattoos on me and I don't see a reason to go anywhere else. Â Not to mention, he's affordable!
The shop is constantly expanding. Â They used to be over on Lankershim in a half art gallery/half tattoo parlor but now have moved to a smaller location. Â Last time I went buy the place was still being set up and expanded but they may be done now.
Anyway, highly recommended for custom work.
If you wanna be ignored and feel customer service is overrated, this is the place to be. Â I went there and it was 10 minutes before the artist said hi, and then proceeded to ignore me while he was tattooing. I understand you're tattooing but at least acknowledge your potential clients, considering I'm looking to spend my hard earned money on something you provide. Â Whatever, they lost out on some pretty good coin.
Review Source:I haven't finished my back piece yet but what we have accomplished so far looks absolutely stunning. Bo is super quick and really takes the time to make everything look just right. The shop is clean, small, and the people are all really nice. Plus their prices are really reasonable for the awesome work they do. I can't wait to go back next week to finish up my back!
