For about 20 years now, I've had a tattoo that I just hated. I hated it the moment it was finished and I got out of the chair back then. Â As with all tattoos, you kind of stop seeing them, but this one always bugged me now and again when I caught a glimpse. Today on a whim I decided to stop in and get it covered and fixed. Â Asher was awesome, was up front with what it takes to cover old tats, and offered up a nearly immediate fix. Â Two hours later it was all done, and I couldn't be happier. Â Can't stop looking at it, can't wait to heal up and get my next one. Â Go see these guys; respectful, up front and pretty chill.
Review Source:Got a tattoo from Emily here a couple years ago (I am a lazy reviewer), and she was awesome. Â It was on the back of my neck and she kept hitting this nerve that would make me feel really woozy and nauseous... weird. Â So she sent her co-worker out to buy a bag of hard candy, because she said the sugar would help me out. Â Was totally cool about pausing so I could have a glass of water and recover, and never flipped me any attitude for, admittedly, being kind of a pussy. Â I would totally go back for more if I could afford to get more ink!
Review Source:Best tattoo shop in Seattle hands down. Trevor has done all the tattoos on my right arm and I will continue to have him finish this arm, as well as do other pieces elsewhere. He has done a fantastic job mixing old school imagery with black and grey shading to get EXACTLY what I want. I have been to other area shops, I have a pretty large piece from Deep Roots right down the street, but I am all over far more satisfied with the quality, attention to detail, and work ethic at Liberty. Not only do they do specials occasionally (this year I went to the 12/12/12 $36 flash event) but they work with you to get what you want in a way that actually translates appropriately to skin. I respect the fact they won't just give you whatever you are asking for, but will make changes to ideas so the piece actually comes across as high quality, well done, and something both you and the artist can be proud of. Many thanks and much respect to the folks at Liberty, especially Trevor Taylor, for giving me the best tattoos.
Review Source:I got one of my tattoos done here about a year ago and it's by far the best one I have! Everyone was really nice and professional, the shop was nice and clean, and the artist did an amazing job! If I had the money I would get my next 235 tattoos done here! I highly recommend getting your next tattoo done here if your in or near the Seattle area!
Review Source:I have had two tattoos done here and a friend had one done here too. It has been a completely positive experience. On both occasions my tattoos were done by Trevor, but I am interested in the other artists too. The shop is clean and open, and I really like the feel of it. They have mostly traditional american style tattoos on the wall to pick from, but they of course do personalized. He even did a quick draw up on the spot of a hand designed original tattoo for a walk in. Even when I was being a baby about getting a tattoo on my foot they didn't make feel stupid about it, now that's customer service! I will go back here again and again.
Review Source:By far the best tattoo shop in Seattle. Everyone that works here is extremely talented and pretty freaking rad! Only been tattooed by Trevor, Asher, and Chris so far but have seen everyone's work and love it all! Don't forget to stop into a pizza mart down the street for a drink post tattoo! Best bar staff ever!
Review Source:I've honestly never wanted a tattoo in my life ever... until I saw this one picture that I really, really wanted. I wanted something on my forearm which said 'Christ' in Japanese. And being a broke UW student, I needed something that was relatively cheap haha.
Then I walk into Liberty Tattoo without any appointment and get it done under half an hour. Sick.
This place is super clean and Trevor, did my tattoo relatively quickly and had a lot of patience with the overall placement of my tattoo. Being my first one also, I didn't feel judged or anything whatsoever. Really awesome.
Base price is about $65, which is cheaper than what I got quoted at Deep Roots down the ave. Come here!
Sent these guys a message off of their website asking for a cost and time estimate for a shoulder/ arm tattoo. I'm seriously weighing the option of either removing or covering a small existing arm tattoo.
Here was their very confusing and very rude response:
That's not how this works...

Sorry Lib Tattoo!!! I guess I haven't been schooled on the proper protocol as it relates to getting a cost estimate on a friggin tattoo!! ... Although I'm sure your artwork is great, your business and customer service skills need some serious work.
I was ready to get my next tattoo in Seattle and a friend recommended Liberty Tattoo, and raved about Jamie. She had also mentioned that, upon request, he would use all natural ink which I was interested in.
I was really impressed by him. He took two designs and expertly melded them together to form the perfect tattoo. He was friendly and skilled and made my friends and I feel welcome. He was perfectly balanced in skill and efficiency.
The shop was clean and I instantly felt at ease. You can tell they do things right there.
Thanks for an awesome tattoo Jamie!
Hearing the words, "No problem, we can definitely do that... actually we can make it look a lot better, even," was the exact thing I needed to hear before getting my first tattoo! The staff at liberty tattoo are awesome- I walked in without an appointment 30min prior to them closing, with the hopes of just a quick consultation, and they ended up doing it on the spot. Chris was the one who actually did my tattoo and he was professional, patient and super talented- I recommend him 100%. If I ever decide to get another tattoo, it will definitely be here!!!
Review Source:REVIEW #600 goes out to something dear to my heart: body art.
I chose to get my most recent tattoo at Liberty for a few different reasons. Â One, my guy at Lucky Devil was impossible to get in touch with. Â Two, the guy at Artcore wouldn't do a design I brought in (different than what I ended up getting). Â Three, I am The Most Dedicated Yelper In The World and I honestly wanted to add something new to my Inked Up List! Â Liberty came recommended by my waxing girl and it has great reviews. Â I paid a visit back in the spring and liked the feel of the shop. Â I eventually decided on Artcore instead, but after being rebuffed I decided to head back to Liberty. Â Every staff member I interacted with was friendly, which is not always the case with tattoo shops. Â The shop is pretty small (there are only five artists) and has a nice, laid back vibe. Â The walls are covered with flash, most of it old timey Sailor Jerry stuff. Â Not my cup of ink, but hey, it's someone's. Â Couple things to note: Liberty is right off The Ave so some crazies may wander in from time to time. Â It is conveniently located by several bus stops as well. Â Do note this is a cash only establishment!
I selected Emily (the first time I've been tattooed by a chick since 1995!) and brought in my references. Â She was able to get me an appointment a week or two after I dropped in for the consultation. Â There was a $20 fee to hold my appointment, which was taken off my grand total. Â I brought in several images of the Blues Brothers and we talked about what elements I liked and didn't like. Â When I came back for my appointment she had a perfect picture waiting for me. Â Emily was patient when I had her change the placement of the stencil three times. Â We chatted while she was working. Â The music they were playing was awesome. Â She also touched up my last tat (not free since it isn't her work) and it looks way better now. Â I love my Jake and Elwood -- Emily did a really stellar job. Â I was at a party last weekend and a guy said it made him feel like all of his were crap because the linework is so clean!
Overall I couldn't be happier... except I'm pretty sure I had a bad reaction to the ink. Â The tat did some weird things while healing and my arm is still a bit tired/sore feeling three weeks later. Â Now, I in no way blame Liberty. Â It's always the risk you take because tattoo ink isn't regulated by any governing body (Holy Scary FYI) and that's why you sign a waiver beforehand. Â I don't think there's anything I can do about it and I know it has more to do with me than the ink or Liberty. Â But just thought I'd throw it out there as a general cautionary tale.
Aside from my unusual reaction to the ink, I would not hesitate to recommend Liberty as a tattoo shop for your permanent body decoration wants and needs.
And remember, CASH ONLY!!!!
Good enough artists but really bad service. I got a tattoo here in 2009 of Marilyn Monroe, it was done free hand by Matt Areola who seemed like a nice guy at first. This was my first professional tattoo and I still like it. I was told that I would get at least one free touch up (which it needed badly) in a week, I called to schedule the appointment and was told to come in the next day for it. Sadly when I went in he was no where to be found so I left all my information for him with a female tattoo artist.
A month later I still didn't recieve a call so I gave them a ring. They were very short with me and told me that he never said he would do a free touch up. I am still pissed about this because my tattoo looks pretty uneven, especially in the eyes and eyebrows, and I also spent over $600 on it.
If you go here make sure it is something simple and punk like where you don't need a touch up.
Liberty is full of talent. The artist I've worked with on two pieces, now, is Jamie King. He's extremely efficient, with clean lines and no sacrifice in quality. Very reasonably priced. Jamie does a variety of stuff, but his niche is definitely anything Norse Mythology/Viking related! Overall, a great place for your traditional tattoo.
Review Source:This is a great shop. Â Coming from a guy who is pretty heavily tattooed, I can say I've been in a lot. Â
I've been getting a back piece done by Asher as of recent, and I've been tattooed by Emily as well. Â Asher doesn't have a heavy hand, which is really nice when you're getting your back tattooed. Â Not an easy spot, but he has made it really comfortable. Â
This shop puts out consistently quality work, so rest assured that you're in good hands with any of the artists here.
This one goes to Jaimie King :-)
Let me just say that Jamie is one talented and detail-minded type of guy. He's very thorough and really cares about what his client wants. He lives up to his reputation as a good artist, no doubt about it.
I got a fairly large (okay, medium size, but I'm a small person) piece done by Jamie. At first I was very nervous, I wasn't sure if he could do it because what I wanted was an exact duplicate of a piece of artwork. The drawing itself was very detailed, and would require a person that specialized in portrait tattoos to get it done right. My friends (who are well experienced and knowledgable in tattoos) said that Jaimie wouldn't be able to execute something so difficult (they only said this because his binder of photos had a lot of traditional tats in it).
Jamie did my piece in two sessions, one hour for the outline and three to four hours for the shading. He made sure that I wasn't too uncomfortable (my leg fell asleep) and the pricing is....well deserved, if not more. I love my piece. It's so wonderfully detailed and beautiful. It's worth how much i paid for it and so much more.
Great prices, great atmosphere, amazing people, great experiences. I loved every moment of it.
I moved up to Seattle in February and while I had six tattoos before going up there, I'd never met someone who clicked with me as a tattoo artist. A friend at work recommended a few places but Liberty was right down the street from me. I was greeted by Emily (the person who was recommended) and she was/is hands down, perfect! My sister was a tattoo virgin! We both went to Emily and even though she is great with her own sketch work, she did my Zelda hearts perfectly! A few months later, I was ready to start my sleeve. If I don't have something someone created for me, I SUCK at telling people what I want. My general speech for Emily went like this, "I want this Snow White picture... In a mirror, ya know?" She was SUPER excited and when I came back to get it, even though I was vague, it was EXACTLY what I wanted! I got the huge piece all at once and we talked about so many things! (I even got her to want to read Harry Potter). I moved to California  few days ago and got a realistic looking wolf on my inner, upper arm (painful, ugh) and my experience was amazing as always. I will wait and save up for a flight up to Seattle JUST to get a tattoo from Emily. Everyone was super nice to me and the work I saw others do was amazing as well! Their prices are much better than I've seen before, especially for the great quality of work! Honestly, it's completely worth waiting to get another piece until I can afford a trip up there!
Review Source:Lets face it, There's a lot of good shops to go to in Seattle. Liberty, hands down, is one of the best ones.
I don't like to go into a tattoo shop and feel awkward of unwelcome. That is something I never feel when I walk into Liberty. The ENTIRE staff at Liberty Tattoo is amazingly talented and SO nice.
Jamie King is the artist I primarily go to at this shop. He understands what I want and always gets it perfectly.
I would recommend this shop to anyone and everyone.... in fact, I do, all the time!
Great shop, great people, awesome vibe.
5 stars isn't nearly enough to express how awesome Liberty is, especially the staff. I recently got tattoo gift certificates there for my own staff and the Liberty crew went above and beyond in every interaction I had with them. They did quality work at great prices, they stayed late after hours just to finish up our tattoos (there were 4 of us getting 5 tattoos) and they were more than fair with the pricing. They were patient and friendly, especially with our "virgin" getting her 1st ever tattoo. I've already talked to them about my next tattoo and I can't see myself ever going anywhere else while I live in Seattle. The Lucky girls love Liberty!
Review Source:I got all my tats here. Â When i first came in, i was a little nervous. Â Ash(?) coaxed me to relax and did my momento morii for me. Â Then i went a little crazy and thanks to Emily, Â i started to get tattoos up and down my arms and my chest and back for the rest of the year afterwards. Â it's been awhile since my last tat (more than 6 months) Â and i'm feeling the urge for the 'zone' - the pure moment of the sublime - when you no longer feel like your skin is no your own and your CNS is flooded with adrenalin. Â
Damn, time to get another, methinks.
I have spent sixteen hours getting tattoed by Jamie King, he is awesome. My first session with him was eight solid hours, me being from Arizona it had to be done in a day and he was super cool about it. Jamie has only gotten better through the years and I have made around five trips to Seattle for tats. The shop is not intimidating like some can be, and the staff is friendly and inviting. If you're in the area I highly suggest Liberty Tattoo.
Review Source:I love these guys. I have gotten two tattoos here, and the first one as a part of the "Toys for Tats" event. I loved my piece, and Asher was great. Super fast, and it looks great.
My second one I came back because of my great experience here. Asher did it as well (mostly because he did such a fantastic job the first time!), and I'm really happy with it.
The shop is clean, the artists super nice and laidback. None of that "I'm a bad ass tattoo artist" attitude.
I'll be back soon!
LOVE this shop. The artists here are talented, courteous, and helpful. I first went during the University Street Fair five years ago and have been recommending them ever since. They also do rad stuff like the "toys for tats" drive every year... Awesome! I'd tell you who my favorite is but that wouldn't be fair now would it. (I still have yet to get tattooed by two of them but plan on it!!) I suggest you go check them all out and get some tattoos!!
Review Source:I really don't know what else to say about these guys. (So why are you writing another review?) Shut up!
Um... basically, they don't seem too keen on customer service. Do I care? Not really. They do great work, they're clean, and I go away with a new pretty piece of art that I'll never tell my parents about, even though I paid for it with the hundred dollar bill my dad just handed to me.
Now, as soon as my dad hands me another hundred dollar bill that I will not need to use toward tuition, I'll be heading right back over to Liberty for a fun-filled afternoon of ink.
As a walk-in customer, I expected to be greeted at the front desk right away. Â Instead, a gal was tucked away in the back office working on a sketch, while hubby and I waited. . and waited. Â
Ten minutes later she came out to the front and said hello. Â I explained that Deep Roots was booked (even though they told me on the phone they had space.. grrrr..) and they recommended I patron Liberty instead. Â I had a small dove I wanted tattooed on my inner forearm. Â She told me that she was alone in the shop and wasn't sure when anyone would be available. Â I was surprised, considering it was a Friday night and the sign out front said 'Walk-ins Welcome.' Â
Thankfully, three more artists showed up within a half hour and one was able to squeeze me in. Â Vinse One was my guy and he did a lovely job. Â My husband and another friend joined me, and Vinse was very focused, professional and patient with our big personalities. Â He mixed the perfect colors as accents on the bird's body and the olive branch in its mouth. Â A tiny picture of peace.
Even though the start to this branding was disjointed, the end result was magic.
Always heard good things about the place, went in here for the first time a year ago to get a $50 flash day tattoo with a friend, and ended up getting 2 tattoos.
I've gone back for every tattoo I have since. Jamie King is my go to guy, he's done almost all of the work on my right sleeve. He's quick, and can always draw exactly what I want from the crazy examples I give him.
This shop feels like home, I could sit in here for days. I always enjoyed tagging along with my boyfriend to sit and hangout when he got tattooed. His go to girl was Emily.
Best traditional shop in the northwest. I've had a hard time finding shops along the west coast that feel like Liberty to me.
I've been going to this shop for three years now, and I'm very pleased with the service I receive there. Professional and clean, but best of all- beautiful tattoos. It is worth every penny knowing you will leave with a tattoo you will be satisfied with. Every artist is extremely talented there. They also have $50 tattoo days every once and a while if you're a penny pincher.
Review Source:YES. i am loving this place.
i got my first tattoo on my 18th birthday here yesterday, done by asher who has also done my friend's foot tattoos.
i was pretty particular about the size but he accommodated my needz well. he was also a trooper and didnt mind me having 2 friends to watch.
also, he said he's touch it up for free! i didnt have any cash to tip so i gave him cupcakes. no joke.
i luv this place.
AWESOME people here. Â I went in for a quote, three different people at the shop looked at my design, gave me their opinion on the size (I was thinking of getting it smaller than the design I brought in, they dissuaded me because the ink would bleed together and the lines become unclean and indistinct over time). Â They were honest, straightforward, friendly and never talked down to me (even though I had no visible ink and other places had condescended to me because I'm a "newb").
A little over a week later, I went in and Emily gave me my very first tat, on the back of my neck. Â I had a bad reaction each time she went over this particular spot (gave me the shakes and just made me feel damn weird, pressure point or something!) Â She was patient and extremely easygoing about it ("This stuff happens sometimes!"), brought me water and even had someone go next door to get me a sucker just in case. Â It's been a few days now; the ink is very deep, healing up nice and looks awesome. Â No problems with it so far.
Liberty is very clean, the people are genuinely nice, and their prices are reasonable. Â I will definitely be back. Â Thank you!
i got my first tattoo a week ago. i'm 25 years old and i had been thinking about the same tattoo for about 4 years and thought it was about time to get it done! Â i had been to a couple tattoo places and never really felt comfortable in them. Â not that there was anything wrong with the other places, but i just felt most comfortable when i walked in to liberty tattoo. Â the people there were very helpful and cooperative and put me at ease. Â matt designed my 6-word tattoo freehand on the spot and made adjustments as i asked. Â he did a beautiful job, and though now i know how much a tattoo hurts to get on my upper, inner arm, i would absolutely go back to liberty tattoo if i were to get another one.
Review Source:I was very pleased with this place. I made an appointment, not knowing if I could have my tatt done within the range I was looking for, but after all was said and done, it was worth every penny. This is my 2nd tattoo (one of many more to come) but my first one was over 10 years ago so I was a bit nervous at first until I watched them work and got a feel for the place. Then I was completely fine and ready.
Jamie did my tattoo on the back of my neck in 10 minutes, if that. And it was perfect and almost painless. All the guys there were really nice and helpful too.
The only bummer is that they only accept cash so I had to go to the ATM at Safeway across the way. I'm not a cash-carrier as I'm sure a lot of people aren't nowadays, so I was a bit surprised. I'd give them 4 1/2 for that, but I have to say that the experience, as a whole, was tremendous.
Jamie was top-notch, quick, and precise. And a great deal on the tattoo as well. He was also impressed that I chose them because of the Yelp reviews.
Very satisfied, I'd definately go back again!
I have been tattooed by 4 different artists here and every person's work is great. If one artist is more experienced in a particular style they will refer you to them. They are a bit more on the traditional side as far as style goes , but their portfolios for the most part are all large and diverse.
Review Source:Nestled on my forearm, amidst gracefully  floating cherry blossoms, perches my bird of prey. His gaze is intense, his purpose quite clear, his resolve is unquestioned.
This masterful work was done with utmost precision and skill by Matt Arriola. A relaxed, unpretentious, environment with excellent music, Liberty Tattoo is the perfect environment for the practice of this ancient art.
The staff even collaborated on the positioning of my tattoo, a team approach I've yet to experience in a tattoo shop. A master getting advice from other masters...what more could you ask for?
I couldn't be more pleased.
