I drop in during a slow workday with an off-the-cuff idea.  The artist draws it up, we discuss, he redraws, it's figured out in about 15 minutes and done in a little over an hour.  At the time, it was the highest quality work I've had done to date.

Then, last week I go in and have an idea that just doesn't work.  What can I say, I don't tattoo... but we discuss, he draws it up with some changes that will work as a tattoo and a few days later, I've got another piece that I'm thrilled with!

Bob Knox is the artist I've been working with and he is just that.  He knows tattoos and knows me as a customer.  I spit out ideas and he makes them real and does them justice!

From what I've seen of the other work being done in this shop, there's no mystery why they're one of the best in a tattoo town like RVA.  Factor in that the whole staff is friendly and good at making me feel comfortable when I walk in, and we're in business!

I only wish I had more skin!

Went in on Saturday evening and got both my cartilage and my nipple pierced.  Tiff was my piercer and was awesome.  I warned her that Im bad with needles and she just chatted with me and next thing I knew I was done.  I would recommend her to anyone--didnt hurt that the price was right too.  Other places I checked with were more than double the price.  Long story short, If you want something pierced go see Tiff!

This place is awesome.  Adam was my tattoo artist and I did a cover up tattoo and a new one on my wrist (script).  He free-handed the cover up.  The only thing I didn't like is that it wasn't on a first come first serve basis so I sat there for 4 hours before being seen.  After that let the pain begin.

The title of this review should be 'Why Doesn't the Other Tattoo Parlor Across the Street Just Shut Down Because Lucky 13 is the BUSINESS!'

I stopped in on a Saturday night whim, full off cheddar biscuits from the Lobster and was warmly greeted into a bright and open shop. The staff was friendly but definitely had that hipster vibe and I was pleasantly surprised with how funny and attentive they were. As I walked to the back to chat with someone about putting a hole in my face I was told it would be a 20-30m wait but it was only about 5. That is when I met Nigel, he assuaged my fears and pierced my nose damn near painlessly...

all this for only $20... a price unheard of in DC. I will be back!

    Love ya Nigel!

I got pierced today at Lucky 13. (don't ask where the piercing is- that's rude)

I was greeted warmly, "processed" quickly, dealt with in a sanitary, efficient and friendly manner, and am really happy. All piercings above the belt are $20, jewelry included.

I had two questions for an artist, so went and asked them and found the staff on the tattoo side equally friendly and down-to-earth. FYI: there's a $50 minimum for tattoos, but of course you need to talk to an artist for a more specific estimate.

The place is big and clean, with an open floor-plan on the tattoo side of the layout. The piercing side of course had more privacy. For those of you a little ascared to go into a seedy, dark, dangerous tattoo/piercing shop: no need to worry here. Of course, the smaller hole-in-the-wall shops have their charm, too. ;)

Can't wait to go back for ink!

Lucky 13 saved my friend's lip! Our interesting experience at Heroes and Ghost's (<a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz/heroes-and-ghosts-richmond#hrid:QJzOSOv9GQVeMkATK8IkBQ">http://www.yelp.com/biz/…</a>) left us deflated and perplexed. "Are lip piercings really that difficult?" we wondered.
No! In fact, they are not!
The wonderful piercer girl at Lucky's was professional and reassuring- the guy that had tried to pierce my friend's lip the night before did NOT know what he was talking about. She ever opened up shop early for us- 11 am on a Sunday when they usually don't open until noon.
The shop is HUGE! I was surprised by the size of it. Clean, wonderfully decorated (if you appreciate owls wearing mullets, like I do) and all around a very inviting space. The piercing room we were in is it's own room, but it looked like most of the tattooing stations were of the separate-but-visible variety.
Also, any standard piercing above the navel is $20! What?! That's unheard of in DC! Well worth the drive to Richmond. I'll come back for all my piercing wants, since the tattoo shop I frequent does not do piercings.

Lucky 13 is THE best place to get a tattoo!!!

Thanks to friends who recommended this place.  DCians, the 2-hour drive is worth it!  Do not give in and pay the high price for a tattoo in DC.

My best friend and I went to Lucky 13 to get our tattoos.  I was getting my very first one and it was paid for by my best friend as a belated birthday and Christmas gift!  One of the best gifts ever!

By the way, looked like Lucky 13 finally gave in and created a website.  Initially, they had cited copyright reasons.  However, I guess customers kept asking for a website and looked like they finally gave in!  Bravo!

The parlor is extremely clean and bright with sunlight coming in.  Everyone there, staff and artists, were friendly and professional.  In additional, they did a fantastic job with tattooing!  Trust me...you're getting the best from these experienced artists.

If you're going during the weekend, you want to get there as early as possible because this parlor is POPULAR!
