Even just pulling up I knew this was not a shop I would venture into for a tattoo; however, 25-35 dollars for a belly button piercing? Hell yeah.
The price difference is in the jewelry: $25 for a simple run-of-the-mill starter and $35 for cute, girly rhinestones.
Walking to the restroom I saw four of the employees... None wore a smile.
Maybe just a bad day for everyone, but all of the tattoo parlors I go to regularly all seem to enjoy the fact that their job is doing what they love with chill coworkers.
The restroom was roomy and clean.
Keeping in mind that I have piercings, and they are not a life-changing addition to your body like tattoos/ I was still disappointed that the piercer engaged in no small talk, gave no warning when he pierced me, and sighed as we said, "Have a good day!"
My belly button was very sore the next day, but there are no signs of any
infections or what-not.

10 years ago, when Magic Needle was in the location next to where Colburn's is now I got my belly button pierced while my dad got a tattoo. Back then, I remember the work being inexpensive and the staff being a side ripping good time.
Fast forward to present day and my mom flashes me her new infinity/bike wrist tattoo and says she got it done at Magic Needles "new" location. She said the staff seemed a little surly but they did clean simple lines. She was happy.
In the past month I have gone to two piercing sessions, one with my minor sister and one with my best friend. Both chose belly buttons.
**The shop asks for 2 forms of ID from the minor and a form of ID from the parent. If the ID's last names don't match bring a copy of the minor's birth certificate.
The pricing system seems to be a little off. Piercings are at rock bottom pricing with belly buttons going for $25-$35 and nipples are $25 per (which can run about $85 total at shops downtown). Tattoos, on the other hand, are outlandishly overpriced. My mom's 1"x2" black outline tattoo cost her $90 and when I got quoted for a touch up I was told $100. Are you shitting me? That is almost what I paid to get it done in the first place on Montrose. I would suggest getting your ink done elsewhere for more affordable prices and quality work.
The shop is clean, I will give them that, but their customer service leaves a lot to be desired. The staff seems to have such a blatant "I could give two shits less what your here for" attitude which is very off putting for someone who trusting you to do something permanent and/or uncomfortable to their body.
Slap a smile on that face and start making your customers feel welcome. Your waiting room will start looking a little less like a wasteland.
I've had several tattoos from several places and people. I've gone to Magic Needle twice and had two different artist both were quite rough. My first tattoo hurt for a month and got slightly infected. My second hurt for 5 weeks, got so infected it was oozing puss. (Sorry for the description but its the truth!) I went back several time complaining of the infection and the coloring. I finally had the retouch it and it still didn't turn out right.
The reception area is like a dead zone you walk in and most of the time no one is at the desk.
Some people have had great tattoos but mine are not.
