Got my first tat here. Referred by my friends and I was not disappointed! Man Yao is the bomb! very polite very friendly and extremely skilled at his work. The tat came out very nice better than what I had in mind. He also did my tragus piercing, quick and painless. He also walked me through all the sterilizing process showed me their tools n equipments they use for sterilization. Very professional indeed. Love this place Definitely going back for more!
Review Source:I was referred here by my uncle for my first tattoo, and I was not disappointed! Man is the MAN; he has an excellent attention to detail and a very skilled hand, it was a completely painless experience for me. Not to mention he's a cutie pie and really funny!
I felt totally comfortable and well taken care of; if the tattoo bug bites me I know my Man has my back! :D
I've been wanting a tattoo for years, and when I finally decided to get one I came upon My Tattoo. Â Looking through all the artist's books, which were all amazing, there was one in particular that really stood out to me. Â Lucy's art was exactly or even better than what I've been wanting for so many years. Â After looking at different shops and meeting different artist, and researching I couldn't get Lucy's art out of my head. Â
Once I met with Lucy I told her my idea and she immediately knew what I wanted and even came up with a better idea. Â I was very surprised at how down to earth Lucy was knowing that she was such an amazing artist with a long waiting list.
When the day finally came and she drew the outline on my back, I was so amazed at what she had done. Â I've had my idea of my tattoo in my head for about 4 years, and she made it better than I had ever imagined! Â During the process she was very kind and considerate; she always made sure I was comfortable and asked if I needed any breaks. Â Lucy really does care about her clients and she does her best to give you the best experience. Â This being my first tattoo, getting it done by Lucy I'd say was the best decision I could've ever made. Â
When my tattoo was finally finished it came out AMAZING! Lucy did such an amazing job I could not believe how beautiful my tattoo had came out. Â I would definitely recommend Lucy, she is extremely talented and she really cares about her clients and her work. After my tattoo was finished she told me if I had any questions feel free to message her and she will get back to me. Â Lucy was willing to answer any of my questions through her busy schedule and responded within 24 hours. Â She is extremely professional and in general a nice person. Â The shop itself is filled with many friendly and talented artist. Â Every time I went inside I was always welcomed with a smile and a greeting.
I absolutely love my tattoo and LUCY is amazing!!! Â I would definitely recommend making an appointment now, for the wait time is quite some time. Â But it's worth it hands down!
Can't say anymore good things about this place or the artists that work here.  About a year ago my friend and I were looking to get our first tattoo.  Luckily I found Lucy during a tattoo convention in  San Francisco.  I've flown down twice to get my tattoo done; first to meet Lucy and pay my deposit and the second to get the work done.  Be warned, her wait list is/was about a year (according to her about a year and a half now) but she's totally worth it!  Extremely helpful, professional and amazing! Â
I'm not going to lie, I was very scared, nervous, and stressed. Â I originally had my cousin sketch an idea for my tattoo. Â Lucy looked at the design for no more than a minute and came up with her own original idea. Â During the sketch process, I wasn't 100% clear on what she had in mind but told her I have faith in her and to go on with what she wanted to do. Â Lucy designed and did my whole back all in one (very long) day. Â My tattoo session went from about 3pm - 1230am with small breaks every so often. Â Can't say the entire process was enjoyable like most other reviewers have said however it was definitely as good as it gets. Â (Towards the end my pain tolerance along with my patience wore extremely thin. Â I was surprised to see how much getting a tattoo wore me out.) Â All the artists check with each other regarding their work and you definitely get that family vibe from watching them all interact. Â They definitely care about their work. Â Everyone was extremely polite, friendly, and just straight up cool.
Definitely highly recommend this place to get work done! Â Thank you Lucy!!!
Couldn't have asked for a better place to pop my tattoo cherry. I got the Chinese proverb that my name came from tattooed on my back from Man. He is soooo patient, sweet, and changed the location and kerning (for the type nerds out there) multiple times until I was completely happy with everything. We also double checked with Lucy (she was working on a sick full arm tatt of the most beautiful peacock I've ever seen.
My characters turned out beautifully! The brush detail is exquisite and the proportions are perfect. The only problem is now I have the itch to cover my entire body with their work. :)
I'm sure all their artists are amazing, but I highly recommend Man and Lucy (from the advice she gave and the piece she was working on). Can't wait to see them again!
Came to my tattoo at the beginning of the year to get my septum pierced. It wasnt my first choice but at the time it was close location wise ... BIG mistake. Signed all the papers with Man and realized they only took cash so made a quick run to get cash. When I got back he said another girl was going to do it and she was on her way in. She came took me to the back and so began the process ...
First, realized she never washed her hands or anything - at the least they use gloves. You know how piercing parlors often walk you through the sterilization process or at least show you their equipment has been sterilized? Yeah, well this isn't that kind of place. Everything is out and they just squirt it down with what I'm assuming to be is alcohol or some other sort of half assed sterilizing liquid. She was shaky as hell, but I figured give her a chance cause everyone starts somewhere right? WRONG!
She pierced the septum and ended up pulling the needle too far through to one side. What does she do? She got the CBB and started digging, like there was no tomorrow, into the hole trying to get it through. I kid you not that went on for like 5 minutes. Until I finally asked her if she could get Man to help her. He ended up having to get a taper (which was in a box with other tapers that also didn't look sterilized) and pierce through the hole again. It was a mission but it was done. She was ready to send me on my way in a hurry. I had to ask her about aftercare and what to do for the piercing otherwise they would've just sent me on my way. she said just use antibacterial soap on it ... OK, I guess.
Went home, checked the website and found out this chick was the apprentice. RESPECTABLE shops will a) let you know that the apprentice will do your piercing, b) not charge you the price of a senor piercer for the apprentice, and/or most importantly c) let the apprentice do the piercing without any supervision/guidance. Needless to say I was pretty upset with this shop at that point.
I noticed almost immediately that the piercing was very low, easily visible when flipped up. Started getting large bumps but tried waiting it out. Finally went to another shop and was advised to take it out right away and let out heal, it was confirmed that it was pierced too low..
Really didn't bother going back to get it fixed or try to get a refund from them .. Why? I didn't trust them to do ANYTHING piercing related at that point.
I don't recommend this place and never intend on going back!
I went to my tattoo about 12 yrs ago. It was so long ago that it was only jess (now the big boss) and he did not have a single tat on his body at the time. Got kanji on the back of my neck. Good job. A yr or so later I brought a friend. Jess had gotten his first tat on his arm. He wouldn't show it to me when I curiously ask. Ok whatevs. Tats are good. Overall shop attitude: snooty. I don't need the attitude, so I got an additional 25 hrs of ink at shogun tat in pas. Not a typo. 25. Now I will be going to peter gunz in Arcadia. I researched it and his reviews r amazing.
My tattoo it's like they buy into the whole bad ass attitude that goes w tats. That's fine but u r a business and u need some customer svc bc u r not the only shop with good work. Other shops do just as good work but they r nice. I was told the appt was 1-3 yrs later. R u kidding me? Then y does it say walk-ins welcome on the wall? Think ab the logic, there is no way that makes sense. When something smells fishy, there's smtg they r hiding. I think appts r schedule so far in advance so ppl don't show up n they keep ur deposit. I emailed them to schedule something with Lucy but never heard back. Such bad customer service! Unbelievable! Go elsewhere. Just look at yelp reviews.
In order to find a safe, clean, and professional tattoo place in Los Angeles, I spent 2 hours on yelp. Finally, I found this. I got a tiny tattoo on my finger. I'd like to express my sincerest gratitude for Danny as my tattoo artist. Â He is awesome. I think that all the tropes of rhetoric can't express to him how grateful I am.
I got my first tattoo here, artist Danny helped me to accomplish.
Please, don't be hesitate to come to My Tattoo and get Danny as your artist.
I went in yesterday to finally get my hip dermals. The piercer dude named Man did them for me and he was really nice and professional. The dermals were in before I knew it, it hurt less than I expected. This place is great I got my nose pierced here last year as well, I believe it was by Man too but I have such a bad memory -_- either way both of my experiences were great. It's a nice welcoming environment and I will definitely be coming back :) It can be a little pricey but as they say ,"cheaper doesn't always mean better", but the pricing was definitely worth it :) thanks again :)
Review Source:Awesome place. I've been coming here for piercings for a while, and recently went in for my first tattoo with Kohei; cherry blossom branch on my shoulder/back. It hurt like a mother, but it was worth it and a great experience! It was a quiet afternoon when I went in, and even though I got there late, he was very nice and accommodating. The other artist in at the time was Man, and we all had a talk about the new Evil Dead movie vs the original one.
All in all, very nice people! I will definitely be back, and not just because they give 1 free touch up!
i got my tongue pierced here a couples year ago and simply forgot to yelp about it. I was EXTREMELY infuriated with this shop. The shop is clean and the service was great. I felt really comfortable with getting my tongue pierced here. However, after 7 days, my tongue was still swollen and huge. In fact, the piercing they used was shaped as a half ball and just left an imprint on my tongue because it was so swollen. I knew something was wrong with my tongue, but hoped that it was normal and taking a little longer to heal compared to everyone else. NO! I was out of town for the weekend and decided to go to another piercer to check it out because I was so worried. The piercer told me that it was imperative I take out the piercing and allow it to full heal. He said that the piercing was not done right for one reason or another, I can't remember. I was very sad that I had to take out my piercing that I was so excited to get. When I got back into town, I went back to the My Tattoo and spoke to the piercer. She refused to give me any sort of discount or reimbursement of any sort. I eventually let it heal and went to a different piercer, and my tongue healed in a matter of a couple of days.
Review Source:I've gotten all my tattoos done here! Â The employees are professional and friendly; always puts me at ease and makes me feel welcomed.
My most recent tattoos have been done by Man Yao. Â His work is EXCEPTIONAL and detailed. Â He gives GREAT feedback and is very thorough with his work; I highly recommend him if you're looking to get anything done. Â Can't wait for Man to work on my next piece!
Got my earlobes pierced here, and I was extremely satisfied with my experience. After looking for a piercing shop on Yelp, I was initially intending to go to another shop around the area; however, upon arrival, the other studio had been completely booked for the day. Not to be deterred, I found this place on Yelp and decided to stop in.
Luckily, one of the artists was just finishing up a tattoo and was available for the time being, so he agreed to pierce my ears. The lady at the front desk gave me the appropriate forms, I signed them, picked out some studs and into the back we went. Surprisingly the whole process took a lot less time than I had anticipated. I was in and out in less than half an hour, half of which was probably waiting. Piercing was quick and easy, but done with care. He was really professional and at no point during the process was I nervous about anything.
The total came to $30 for both earlobes. I hear that's a little pricey from some people, but for a needle piercing and really quick and professional service, it was definitely worth it.
"BEST TATTOO SHOP"
Went to My Tattoo last Sunday to see Lucy to start my Dragon Koi fish sleeve tat on my left arm. I actually waited a 1yr and a 1/2 for my apt. That's how Respected and Talented Lucy is as an artist. When I went into the shop Michael greeted me right away. I told him I have an apt. with Lucy and he told me to please make myself at home I will let her know your here. While I was waiting I meet Man he specializes in Piercing and Tattoos, he wanted to make sure I was taken care of. My first impression was how friendly and helpful the tattoo artist are at the shop. My Second impression was jaw dropping! It was amazing how many awards the shop has won at Tattoo conventions over the years! My third impression was how clean and organized the shop was.
Than my artist Lucy came over to greet me with her pink hair and big smile! She is very friendly and professional. We than went to her area and she showed me the drawing she did for me and it was perfect! She Incorporated everything I was asking for. She than put the main piece on my arm the Dragon fish than she actually drew in all the flowers, skull and water directly on my arm. One of the main reasons I went to Lucy is because of the beautiful work she did on my Mother and my Wife. Lucy than started on the outline and I was amazed how soft of a hand she has. Most the time I could barley feel anything, my wife and mother both told me this but I didn't believe it until now. During my six hours in the chair Lucy always made sure I was comfortable, if I needed a drink or break. Its really amazing how much detail Lucy puts into her work. I have been totally blessed to have Lucy as my Tattoo artist.
But I must admit one of my favorite parts of the day was when the owner Mr. Jess Yen came over and introduced himself to me and than took a look at what Lucy was doing and approved the design and all her work. He than told me that when Lucy finishes my tat it will be one bad ass sleeve! Now that was an honor to here from Mr Yen because he is the Master when it comes to tattooing.
Overall I had a great experience at My Tattoo! I cant wait to come back next month to have Lucy continue to work on my sleeve. If anyone out there is looking to get a tattoo for the first time or for the 10th time come see Lucy you wont be disappointed!!!
I went in with my cousin to get a couple piercings. We were pierced by Man Yao and he was just terrific. The piercings were quick and painless. He was even able to do a special request for my cousin.
All in all, it cost $30 to do each ear and came with jewelry.
We even had some really nice conversations with the tattoo artists. Everyone was so friendly.. I will definitely be coming back here for any other piercings!
Got my first tattoo here from Kohei and definitely wasn't my last here. My first tattoo was from my chest to my back area and Kohei helped make my first experience a good one. I was out of energy but he really did an amazing job drawing it out for me. Definitely need to make an appointment and even though he seems busy, he'll definitely schedule you in when you need it. Place is clean as you would definitely want at a tattoo place. Only problem is parking with the area being small but I've never had a problem with parking. Some people learn to park in the plaza on the corner of Garfield and Valley and you just have to walk 15 steps or so to My Tattoo.
Review Source:Got tattooed by Kohei 2 days ago. A simple japanese phrase. Talked to him the day before and he told me he had an opening at 1pm
I work at night and get home around 6-7 am. and I live in reseda. the driving took about at least 45 minutes and I told Kohei all of this when we talked on the phone. He told me no worries and he would be there at 1.
I got there  a bit earlier.  Kohei showed up at 1.40.  I get it. life happens. things get in the way. things happen unexpectedly sometimes. but there were 2 other guys in the shop and they knew I was waiting for Kohei. and yet none of them had the courtesy to call Kohei to ask him where he was and to let me know what was going on. Eventually I got tired of waiting and asked one of the guys where Kohei was. Only then they called Kohei and told me he would be there shortly.
Kohei was super nice. He knew what I wanted. and in the middle of working on my tatt, he stopped and talked to other customer for about 15-20 minutes. The whole process only took about 10 minutes. but I was there for almost 2 1/2 hours. it's ridiculous.
The tattoo came out great. Exactly how I wanted it.... but cmon man, customer service and professionalism should always be #1 when you run a business.
Got a tattoo last night. Took way longer than expected but it was totally worth. Andy really went to town on my Vajra design. Adding extra details and multiple layers of shading. I'm an artist myself and very meticulous, and experiencing how Andy works made me a fan for life. His attention to details, expert shading, knowledge of his craft, and a fun guy to talk to made the process enjoyable. The end result far exceeded my expectations. Andy is very humble even when I was complimenting his skills. That's a sign of a person who will continue to grow and get better. No ego at this studio, everyone is friendly and positive. Thanks Andy, I'll be coming back or more.
Review Source:Explanation as to the bad vibe I got from this place. One star for giving us the opportunity to find another Tattoo place.
We have been searching for a Tattoo shop who can do cover ups and decided to check several places out. Most were always either closed or looked abandoned during business hours when they were suppose to be open. This place was open and was nearby one of the closed abandoned looking places so we decided to check it out.
First the parking in the back has the worst entrance in the history of entrances. Lets just say it should only be an entrance only for motorcycles. Secondly, upon entering the shop it seemed really nice. Awards and tattoo pics everywhere as expected. It seemed clean and smelled sterile.
We were greeted immediately by Andy, who asked how he could help. Off hand he seemed eager and informative, but we soon came to realize the advice we were getting was somewhat starting to sound a bit cocky. Â Basically, he said what we wanted was not possible and that for a cover up we should consider laser treatments to remove or lighten the tattoo (so what he should have said was I don't know how to do cover up tattoos) Ok so I get that he doesn't know what he's doing. He also said it would cost $100 for a (drawing fee) $600 down and $150 hourly that required several sessions. The tattoo we wanted to cover is small man just about 3 inches long and 2 inches wide! Also we would have to bring in or email several drawings in addition to the several we already showed him. Then he said his next available appt was some time next year. He then mentioned that he would be transferring to a new location in Huntington Beach and we may have to go to that location to do the final touches which is in March! I mean damn, how long does he think this will take.
Finally, he says he doesn't recommend to work the next day after getting the tattoo and that this may take all day. He said he starts of slow (ya cuz it's $150 hourly). And to top it all off he couldn't do what we wanted, he started to think up his own ideas and needed to mention what he (doesn't) do. Â Not to mention what we didn't want.
We ended up going to Shogun in Pasadena, talked to Charles who specializes in cover up tattoos. Simple, he looked at the arm, he looked at the pic we wanted and said no problem and explained why in detail. Basically the tattoo was light and small with no color and was possible to cover up with what we wanted. No drawing fee, $150 hourly 1 session and deposit was $50 that went towards the tattoo. Scheduled next week, done and done.
Worth the price and wait!! There's a reason why Lucy is a one year wait and there's a reason why people wait and then spend a fortune on getting their pieces done by her. To date I've spent 11 hrs in her chair at $200/ hr. whew!!! That is a serious chunk of change. I still have more to go, but I am proud to wear her work and vision on my arm. Lucy is professional, personable and definitely easy to work with. I get compliments from people ALL the time. She is also excellent at detail and remembers alot about her clients. I recommend her if you want Asian art or something that requires a lot of detail.
Review Source:Even though my previous experience here with the scheduling was a disaster, my friend was persistent on convincing me that their quality of work is beyond superb. So for my b-day present, my friend set up an appointment with Andy for my 2 tatts. We set up an appointment a week earlier and Andy was on point with confirming my appointment. Even on the day of, he called to tell me that he might be a bit late but that my appointment was still confirmed.
As I got there, I realized that this tattoo shop is CLEAN. I'm not saying that the past 2 shops that I went to were dirty and grungy but literally, this shop is well kept and can say that there's a calming mood to it. Plus, this shop doesn't blare hardcore rock music which might've made it seem calmer than the other shops that I went to. Anyways, Andy came and he really went into detail about what size I should get my tattoo and also the placement. I really had no idea that placement and size was so important. Maybe because this was the first time that an artist took the time to care about their product but I have to say, customer service was 5 star worthy. After an hour of consulting and working with the tatt, we were ready! Mind you, he only charges for tattoo time, not consulting time which shows that care about making their product look good on you!
My tatt session lasted about 3 - 3 1/2 hours and honestly, I feel privileged to get a tatt done by Andy. Instead of biting my teeth to fight the pain, he actually made the session enjoyable which I haven't experienced before. Also, Lucy was there at the shop and he made sure at the beginning and at the end of my session that we get her perspective as well on my tatts. I sound like a broken record but they really do care about their artwork.
I am pleased with the outcome of my tatts and even more, I actually felt a different kind of tattoo experience with this shop. I am planning to get a few more done and I think I just found my new go to shop!
Thanks Andy!
Walked in to get a consultation. Â Was recommend by a few people to see Lucy. Â My design was simple so I figured she'd pass me on to someone else. Â Instead she said she would do it [in which I'm honored] and she squeezed me in the following week. Â
The scheduled session was for 9:00 pm. Â I arrived early [8:30 pm] and waited around and talked to Man, Allen and Andy. Â Lucy was with another client at the time. Â My session didn't start til 11:00 pm, which I didn't mind. Â You can't rush an artist at work. Â Patience is a virtue. Â My session was done at 11:30 pm. Â 30 minutes was all it took. Â Shes that good. Â I am happy as a clam. Â
Over all, I am very happy with My Tattoo. Â Already planning my 2nd tat.
GO SEE LUCY!!! bOOK NOW BECAUSE SHE HAS A MEGA WAIT, BUT IT IS SOOOO WORTH IT. Â Everyone constantly stops me and asks who did my tattoo. She is truly an artist and can help make your idea of a tattoo perfect. Â She is also very easy to talk to and I always have a blast when Im there. Its not a douchey tattoo shop, every is a professional and super friendly.
But seriously go see Lucy Hu!!!
Visited Kohei again yesterday to expand on the first tat. Â I'd been discussing a background with him for some time now, and I decided on putting a bamboo tree as the background to the characters. Â The work came out great and looks perfect. Â Everything seems to be healing up the same as the last tat, so I don't expect any complications.
Only negative on this visit was how long it took to set the appointment. Â However, the only reason it took so long was because Kohei had so many projects to work on. Â Again, a very minor and understandable hiccup. Â As always, Kohei and the rest of the staff were professional, accommodating and friendly. Â I can't recommend these guys enough, they're the best.
From top to bottom all artists here work together to produce quality tattoos every single time. Peer checks are required before and after every single tattoo. I've been coming here for some time now and over a short window I have seen drastic artistic performance from all artist (and everyone was already really good). Having firsthand experience in international tattoo conventions I can say hands down these guys are industry leaders.
Come here if you are looking for a friendly artist you can trust. All work is peer checked which really means you have multiple people validating your work beforehand. No other shop is as dedicated to preserving its place as an industry leader.
I've been coming here since I was 19, it's been 6 years. I have 5 tattoos total with more planned. 4 of them were all done by Kohei and the other I went somewhere else (something I regret).
Kohei specializes in Asian characters/kanjis, those type of things and I would definitely recommend the artists in this store for all your Asian art tattoo needs. They know what they are doing, so nobody has to be stuck with an embarrassing misinterpreted tattoo because of language barriers. Their artwork is amazing and I have no doubt of their talents.
Kohei is fantastic, a little shy but very friendly and sweet. He is always there to help and give you consult, always makes sure you get what you want. He is always careful with you when he does your  tattoo. In fact, everyone here goes out of their way to make sure your needs are met with their utmost perfection.
Man and Lucy did my navel piercing. I had it pierced several times before I finally did it right -___- but they were both awesome in directing me on how to take care of my piercing. I wasn't nervous at all and let them do their stuff.
I am definitely coming back and recommending this place to everyone I know.
I highly recommend this place. There's nothing more to it than that.
Also, if you're one of those people who absolutely MUST get  tattoos of Chinese characters without knowing what they really mean, don't be a dumbass and get it done by a tattoo artist who has no more clue about the meaning than you do. The artists here are native Chinese speakers so you're good.
If you're squeamish, they have stuffed penises and breasts for you to grab onto while they ink you too.
Anyways, great work. Very happy.
Andy did my tattoo. Hes very light handed, and hes cute! ;)
Twas a little pricey, but good tattoos arent cheap, and cheap tattoos arent good. Did an AmaziNg job on the teeny tiny letters in the quote i have tattooed on my forearm and i get lots of compliments.
I DEFINETLY plan on going back after tax return time.
LUCYYYYYYY IS THE SHIET!!! Â :) go to Lucy if you're looking for a real piece of art. Â She's artistic, creative, and tons of fun. Â And in her words not mine, she has big "cajones". LOL! Â for those of you who don't know what that means, it's "balls" in espanol haha.
I got an awful looking tattoo just a month ago. Â I was devastated! Â Because I was going through a really tough time and the tattoo was suppose to mean something to me. Â Anyway, I did my research the second time around and came across Lucy :) after sending her an email [that she didn't respond to], I Facebook stalked her hahha. Â Needless to say, it worked. Â I met her at the shop for a quick consultation. Â It was my lucky day, she had an opening the following weekend because someone had cancelled. Â Of course I snatched that appt in a heartbeat. Â Did I mention she's completely booked until May 2012?!??! Â Crazy I know!
I went in the following weekend and there she was waiting for me.  She immediately got everything set up and was ready to start drawing on me.  I loved that she drew directly on me and didn't need to use carbon paper.  She's definitely pro!  She drew a couple ideas and I chose the one I liked best.  Don't think just because she's a chick that she has a light hand, cause goddamn it hurt!!!  I'm sure the location had a lot to do with the pain as well.  She covered up the uglyass tattoo I had on my foot  with a beautiful work of art.  Her colors are vibrant and amazing.  Her hourly rate is pretty high, but danggg it's worth it.
I went to My Tattoo specifically for Lucy. Â I made an appointment for a consult just to get the ball rolling. Â I knew she had a long wait list for the actual tattoo, but I was willing to wait. Â I met with her and she was really nice. Â My initial idea of where to put my tattoo didn't flow well with my previous one, so she changed it up and it turned out to be way better. Â She knows what she's talking about and she has "the eye." Â Granted, what she drew turned out to be way bigger than I anticipated, I still loved it and maybe wished I had gone even bigger.
So we scheduled an appointment for two months later. Â Then, I get a call from her saying that her appointment was cancelled and she was free that night! Hooray! Â Lucy does a great job, but she's also a little pricey. Â Don't worry, it's all worth it in the end.
I came here for a cover up of a tattoo I had gotten earlier this year, and trust me, it was pretty damn hard to work with since I wasn't willing to go three times the size, which is generally necessary for a good cover up. Regardless, Kohei was AWESOME. I had walked in without so much as a phone call and he went above and beyond. He rescheduled his previous appointment to give me his full attention, and his original 3-4 hour estimate turned into a solid 5 hours of tattooing, and he still stuck with the original price he told me! He went crazy with the details and it turned out so much better than what I expected.
All the guys here are freaking hilarious and sweet. They make you feel so at ease, and what I loved is that they all ask each other for their opinions on the sketches and on the final works. Honestly, if you want any Asian tats done, this is the place to go!!
So i only have my ear lobes pierced (back when i was 7) and i don't have ANYTHING else on my body so getting a navel piercing is EXTREMELY horrifying for me....haha. i was just feeling extremely spontaneous after school today and decided to FINALLY go get it...i solely picked this shop because the workers speak chinese...i'm sorry but the thought of a HUGE white man doing my piercing scares me even more! so my piercing was done by MAN and he was SUCH a sweetheart! he was patient and funny even though i was flipping a shit! (seriously, i had my spatula ready!) he marked my belly and showed it to lucy to make sure it was aligned properly. gotta say it looks PRETTY DARN GOOD! it took literally 5 seconds! it was quick and painless! the jewlery selection was decent can't say too much because i've never been to any other tattoo shops. but they were CLEAN!!!! SERIOUSLY recommend this shop if you're a weenie like me! hehe. can't thank them enough and i will recommend all my friend to here!
(that was a long review just for a belly piercing!)
Drove an hour to Alhambra to get my 5th tattoo. Â Then, drove an hour PLUS back home in nasty traffic, lightheaded, in pain and oozing multicolor fluids out of a bajillion holes.
Worth it? Â To-TATT-lly. Â (Sorry, sorry...couldn't help the cheese.) Â
So why didn't I just stick to a reputable shop near me? Â Well, for the past 3 years, I've dreamed of getting this one Tang poem tattooed on my body. Â The trouble is, after years of secretly and, sometimes, openly laughing (ok, ok. Â I'm not a perfect person) at people who are permanently inked with nonsensical Chinese phrases and/or with characters made up of haphazard strokes, I had scared myself into believing that I'd actually have to fly to Asia to get my tattoo properly done.
Not willing to deal with the disapproving looks ("SHAME!") from relatives that would surely follow an inquiry about reputable tattoo parlors in their Taipei neighborhoods, I turned to my good buddy, Google, to see if there are any artists in LA who know how to read/write Traditional Chinese. Â Jackpot: My Tattoo popped up with more than a handful of amazing yelp reviews. Â Boom: Lucy picked up the phone and assured me that they have THREE artists that know Chinese. Â Bonus: She yelled at Man in Chinese to pick up my call. Â (I don't know why this clinched the deal but it did. Â Maybe it reminded me of all the strong, female personalities in my family--put me right to ease.)
After a short phone consult with Man (all the while cyber-stalking him and his work online), made use of my Good Friday by booking an appointment with him. Â Aaaand...VERDICT: This guy is CRAZY AMAZING, definitely worthy of more than 5 stars. Â Patient, professional and a true perfectionist, Man prepped and prepped with me until he was satisfied with every single, minuscule detail. Â He even made sure Lucy gave her verbal stamp of approval before firing up the torture gun. Â Aside from producing a top-notch, work of art on my torso that even the poet Li Bai would approve, Man kept things upbeat with his humor. Â Between him and Andy, it was like I was hanging out with old friends--trading a steady stream of insults and jokes among the 3 of us. Â (Andy, haven't had the pleasure of being inked by you but I award you 5 stars for your quick-style, sharp humor alone.) Â
Thinking about a tattoo? Â Go to My Tattoo. Â Go to Man. Â I have little doubt that you'll dance out with something that looks even better than what you dreamed it could ever look. Â No joke, my tattoo is just entering it's itchy stage and I'm already feigning for a new one by them.
When you want the best....Owner is Jess Yen who is the absolute man when it comes to asian ink. It comes with a hefty price though: $250+ per hour and around a 2-4 year wait b4 you can get him to work on you. If you are not willing to shell out $5k to $20k for a sleeve in black and gray then go elsewhere. Otherwise, for those who realize we are talking about artwork on your body that will be there forever, Jess is your man.
Review Source:I sat on a design for like 6+ months debating on which place I wanted to go to to get my first tattoo. Its like popping a cherry for the first time you know. I've been to a few places just to observe how the tattoo practitioner did his or her brush strokes. Each time I went, the artist was a non Asian who didn't know jack squat about the meaning of doing an Asian character. Turn off. When I heard about this place, I started to do some research before anything else.
When I walked into My Tattoo, I didn't really know what to expect. I showed one of the guys the design I wanted and he got to work right away on tweaking the design to make it tribal style. The guy who tatted me up was Kohei. He was soft spoken, looks like a Yakuza, very patient and totally an AWESOME guy! He took care of me like a soldier.
Kohei told me the design I wanted was a first time project for him to do. I feel honored to be his first test subject guinea pig for this kind of design. It was a Chinese lion and a Malaysian dragon that you would see being performed during the Chinese New Year or Autumn Moon festival season, but tribal style. He went over the design with Lucy, who seemed like she was the Alpha dog on Chinese arts before he placed the stencil on my arm. We went through several phases of placing the stencil properly on my arm.
People were coming in and out inquiring about tattoo designs and what not, so I understand the stress the staff here have to put up with; hence the Rockstar Energy drinks and wisecracks. I'm not gonna say how long it took to tat up my arm, but I can tell you after sitting there for a few hours, it was totally worth it!
I thought I was going to doze off in my chair until Kohei started to fill in the stencil on the bone of my arm. Bone rattling! For a stylistic and quality tattoo, don't rush the artist. He may screw you the wrong way lol
Pros:
* Staff is friendly, knowledgeable of the arts and culture, also really creative and focused.
* Affordable, even for a college student like me. They work with you, so don't trip.
* CASH ONLY (They're Asian like that)
Cons:
* Small parking lot (not to worry, there is a plaza next door, so you can park over there too)
* Wait time seems long if the place is busy.
Conclusion:
TOTALLY SATISFIED. Now, I want my second tattoo... What to get?
so I have been wanting to get another tattoo , and I've done some searching and  found my tattoo on yelp so I thought, hey why not it's gotten great reviews.
I walked in and was greeted with friendly smiles. Man(thats his name) was the one who asked me if he could help me, I told him I wanted to get a quote on my back with some birds and the word believe on my finger.
he had time to book me in that day. which was amazing cause i have a hectic schedule.
so I told him what I wanted and he took his time perfecting my tattoos and asked lucy for second opinion from placement of the tattoo to the letterings
I liked how he looked over my tats and made sure they were perfect to my liking.
he's amazing ! can't get any better than him . I recommend Man Yao to anyone, you will be in good hands.
I really love this place  ! and recommend this place to everyone
parking: i parked in the plaza where phoenix and yogurtland was.
Came here today for my next tattoo endeavor.
Made an appointment with Andy a week ahead of time and put down the $20 deposit.
Andy was very patient with my insistent placing of the stencil on my shoulder. We literally cleaned and placed the stencil at least four times to make sure it was JUST right, and even then he was still nice about it. After getting advice and acknowledgement from Lucy, he went ahead with the actual tattooing.
The tattoo itself took about an hour to an hour and a half. Throughout the whole time, me and Andy had casual conversations, which at times included Man. Andy did an awesome job with my piece and he's such a down to earth guy.
I was a little hesitant about coming here to get a tattoo done, since I'd never been here for that reason before but I'm glad I did. Everyone that works here is so nice, they truly act like a family. Andy did a great job with my tattoo and was very knowledgeable and patient.
If I do decide to get anything else done, this place will definitely be my first choice.
Got my first tat here from Andy. I came with a uber simple design (solid black) and came out with a piece of original art. Andy took the design I had and spent over an hour thinking over what he had in mind. Honestly, the picture he drew didn't look like much, but he said trust me. Like a fool I did but it came out much more detailed and was a huge surprise when I saw it completed. It took 2 hours for the first session and 1 hour for the touch up. After the touch up, it looked even better with more details! I give him props for creating something out of nothing on the spot. Not only that, he didn't charge me full price because he thought it was a more 'fun' tattoo. I assume it was because it was more challenging. Â I will be getting something else done soon.
My girlfriend has gotten two tattoos from Kohei here as well. Â She loves both of them. Â She has some Kanji and some cherry blossoms. Â Both turned out great.
Man was awesome. I googled this spot to get my dermal anchor done and wanted to do something a bit outrageous for the New Year.
Everyone here was super chill, way cool. Man, my piercer was awesome, he told me straight up, if I was planning to party and drink for nye don't do it. So I came back New Years day. He totally could of just taken my money, punch a whole in my face and carried on.
I was watching the girl tattoo this guy, her skills was on point. It was some greek mythological dude, it was ill. I am considering coming to finish my tattoo.
But anyhow, my dermal came out SUPER. It's beautiful, not infected and blinging. I've had 3 done before in Vegas, and all 3 rejected, left me with battlewounds. Man made sure it was sitting right on my face, he even told me how to care for it.
Thanks MAN!
Also, to the Hayward boy that works there, HAYWARD HOLLA!
UPDATE*********************
I will not be going back. Â I felt the lack of CS was really heart breaking.. plus it seems as if the ink if off... I have seemed to develop some scaring or something on my recent ink from MT... I have since been to other parlors.. and no such reaction. Â My skin is not the issue as I have damn perfect skin for ink (LOL). Â Seriously.. I'm really sad by the after effect of my ink.. some faded color and a strange... scaring/bumping?... No es bueno. Â (apparently I am not the only one to develop scars)
I kid you not- My last ink session.. I went to my appt at 12.. had to wait 1 hour.. came back.. was made to wait another 45 mins.. and then turns out.. nothing was drawn. (I talked to him about art since first session.. and this was planned a week min in advanced.. not even a concept sketch) Â I didn't get tatted until 7:30pm.. left at 11:45 pm. Â I even brought him cookies and rockstars.. and I end up with scares (emotional and physical) and the worst service ever.
Will never go back.
Will try Nice Guy Tattoo for sure. Â My friend has amazing work from Face.
*******************************
I literally just came back from getting my tongue pierced from My Tattoo. Kristina who is the main piercer, pierced my tongue. She was very cool and very informative. I love that she was being very blunt but funny at the same time, letting me know what I can and can't do. I like that got a second opinion on where my piercing should be. And I felt very taken care of and it was my first time there. My piercing cost $50. I was bleeding a little after the piercing, she made sure that I was okay before I left the shop. The shop was clean, and hand many books for the art that they have done. I am going to go back again.
I recommend going here to this place.
Took me just a few minutes to find this place. Parking in the back and also at the small plaza south of the shop. I chose the plaza since the mytattoo parking seemed small. Walked into the shop, noticed it was clean, well lit, and walls adorned with artwork and awards. Two loveseats by the entrance for people to chill and wait. I was greeted immediately by Andy & Mann who asked me what brought me in. I showed them some tats I needed covered up and some sketches of what I wanted to cover it up with. They said that what I had in mind was not "culturally  comaptible"  basically two cultures molded into one, specifically japanese and Sanskrit. Then they gave me their opinion on what would be better suited for my cover up. So, after several more minutes of talking about the best course of action to tackle my problem, we sit down and finally talk bizniz.
We talked about the price, & Andy said he charges $100/hr and mentioned his boss the owner Jess charges  $250 an hour. So I said a $100 per hour seems fair, then I ask how many sessions it would take and how many hours per session, he says about 10 sessions and 2 hrs per session. I was like calculating the numbers in my head and was like WTF?! 2k for a half sleeve?! Well I dont doubt that these guys are good, I've seen their work, the awards they've won, and the reviews of satisfied customers who've had work done, but cmon now $2k for a half sleeve is a bit much. My friend is getting a full sleeve and his chest done for $1500 somewhere in orange county (low rider I think). So I said I'll think about it and give him a call if I decide to get it done, and then left the store. I've heard all the arguments regarding putting a price on artwork, believe me I know first hand what happens when you try and be cheap about getting tattoos, that's why I'm getting a cover up coz I fukd up the last time. At this day and age though, a lot of good artists are out there and charge a fraction of what the artists with awards charge these days, you only need to know where to look.
I heard about this shop from a few friends who had gotten work done here from Jesse. Â Everyone who had come to the shop had great experiences and amazing work done. Â My friend wanted to get a tattoo and I needed the current tattoo on my foot touched up so I figured I would give this place a shot. Â
I called in to make an appointment and spoke with Andy on the phone. Â He said he was willing to take my touch up and my friend's piece. Â They are both relatively small pieces, so it was cool that he was willing to take it. Â He also came in on his day off to take do the pieces. Â
Overall, the experience I had was great. Â Everyone at the shop was super friendly and it had a really chill vibe to it. Â Andy was really cool and my touch up turned out even better than expected. Â My friend was really excited about her piece as well and it ended up looking great too. Â
I would definitely recommend this shop. Â It's a little pricier than I expected for smaller tattoos, but you get what you pay for. Â It's permanent, so I would rather spend more money and get something that's good than spend less and get crap work done.
I'm following up now that I've finished my tattoo. Â I wrote an ealier review explaining how I met Andy at the Pomona Tattoo Expo July 2010. Â We weren't able to finish my tattoo because the buiding had to close so I went to the shop he works out of a few weeks later and finished it up. Â It's been healed for well over 2 months so I'm back to update
The coloring is bright/dark and even. Â The shop was clean, friendly and easy to find. Â The guys (and gal) working were easy going and fun to talk with. Â This shop has alot of talent and is great with their customers. Â Thanks Andy! Â I love my tattoo and when I add to it I'll be coming back :)
I've been wanting a tattoo for several years now. Â I always told myself that I still had time and I procrastinated like a mother f*er until finally I realized, I was no longer a young fledgling rebel, but a 26 year old man.
It was simply now or never.
Thus, after some research and hearing recommendations from my friend, I decided to check out My Tattoo which specialized in Asian influenced art.
I walked in and was greeted by Man, who quite simply, became my tatted up Taiwanese brother from another mother. Â We bonded over our Formosa motherland heritage and I will go to him for my next eventual piece. Â He has this ease about him that made me feel really comfortable, despite me sweating bullets being my first time.
"You want me to pop your cherry?" he joked as I nervously, but eagerly, answered "yes", like some scared wide eyed virgin.
The experience was intense. Â A juxtaposition between pain and pleasure was mind blowing and I am really glad I went through with it.
Man was extremely detailed oriented. Â He took his time to make sure all the lines were straight and everything was filled in perfectly. Â I never once felt rushed and in fact, I felt bad that my piece was taking so long.
At My Tattoo, they have a system of double checking for accuracy. Â They checked first when they placed the outline on my arm, and again when it was finally completed.
Man walked me through every process of his art, down to simple explanations of all his actions. Â If I didn't already trust him immediately because of his demeanor, personality, and banter, this would have definitely solidified it.
If you are looking to get inked - I would highly recommend this place.
You can trust me. I'm just the Taiwanese guy with the huge smile and the awesome tat. THANKS MAN!
I'm 3 sessions deep into a large halfsleeve project that Andy has been working on for quite some time now.. He's been in charge of the whole creative process from beginning to end and I've been very happy thus far.. It's my first time working with Andy, since my previous two pieces were wonderfully done by Kohei, but this was a more complex sleeve so I was recommended to him..
Just 1-2 more sessions to go and I'll be done.. That's when I'll post another update and final pictures of my Koi halfsleeve..
I recommend this place to everyone I talk to tattoos about, so come check it out.. The staff is friendly, courteous, smart and funny.. But ultimately the whole shop's body of work speaks for itself.. You'll see
Nearly every piercing and tattoo I have gotten in the last 10 years has been from here. (Exception 1 tat and 1 piercing)
I went more when I was younger, and took my friends for their stuff as well. I got my belly, tongue, nipple and 2 "other" piercings from the staff here. The first piercing I got was from a guy named Abraham, he is long gone and I do think that was a good move for My Tattoo. The name of the guy who did the rest of my piercings was Milton, I think. Anyways, whoever it was he was good. I never had any problems with any of my piercings, though I have since removed some.
Also, I got 2 of my 3 tattoos here. The first tat I got (in 2000) was from a big Mexican looking guy whose name has totally slipped my mind. It was a cheesy tat, but I am glad I got it. It says a lot about who I was then. My second tat I wanted forEVER and a lifetime, and when I finally got the nerve to do it, I had the pleasure of being worked on by Jess. My tat was something very different than what he ordinarily does, but he went along with it and did it for me and I will always really appreciate that. He is by far the coolest tattoo artist I have ever met.
I strayed from MyTattoo for my last tattoo, big MISTAKE! The guy dug hard into my skin and now I have scarred tissue and it looks stupid. It looked bad from the get go and unfortunately it is not fixable.
One day I would love to come back to My Tattoo and have them do my masterpiece that I want.
Great shop, great staff, but i CANNOT say enough about LUCY! She is absolutely amazing. Not only is she helpful, courteous, and unbelievably talented, her adorable personality helps make the experience enjoyable! Â
The day of my appointment, which was scheduled @ 1pm, we spent the entire day planning out and perfecting my complicated design and we did not get started until around 7pm and Lucy had NO problems rescheduling her other appointment just so we could get the design PERFECT, she truly wants her clients to get the best tattoo possible and will work around the clock till its just right!
Lucy is NOT like most tattoo artists that just try to get the "most billing hours" in and charge you as much as possible, but rather she genuinely cares about each and every one of her clients and enjoys her work! Â
I spent years looking for the perfect artist for my first tattoo and after countless hours searching Lucy was an obvious choice. She did my second tattoo not too long ago and I will undoubtedly be back for my third and fourth and fifth...
Any world class ladies or gentlemen DESERVES world class work from this AMAZING world class artist. She is worth every single penny and more! Remember, a tattoo lasts forever, so don't take your chances. Lucy WILL NOT disappoint.
So I was a rebelious teenage girl, looking for some piercing to get since all my friends had done the same thing and I felt like it was time for something new. I decided to get an industrial piercing and My Tattoo was the place. I looked at other places on Yelp but after I found out their pricing, I didn't even want to think about it. I called and the guy told me I didn't have to have an appointment because piercings don't take that long and he was right. I got there around 7:30pm.
The place was close by to my house and it was noticeable from the street. When I walked in the place was very clean and well kept. The people were all nice and chatty and I felt welcomed. The first guy that came up to me was an asian man and wasn't Milton nor Kristina like you guys have mentioned. I would have gotten 20% off my piercing if I got pierced by him but I asked for Milton since you guys said it was the best and he really was. He guided thoroughly through the whole process and I couldn't have felt more informed. Of course, I'm a scared little sissy so it hurt. I had felt a little faint but Milton rested me, gave me some water and ice and I was good to go.
Milton even had to bend my jewelry because my ear is very tiny. He also got a second opinion which was very nice too. Overall just great service from him. He was very social and nice to talk to. He gave me alot of tips on how to clean my piercing and answered every single damn question I had for him. I left feeling really happy and I am glad I got the piercing done.
If your a girl, who's low pain tolerance but ready to do something drastic I'd definitely go to Milton :)
First things first, I love My Tattoo!
I've had a couple other tattoos done in the past but not anywhere I absolutely loved and wanted to go back to. I got my tattoo done by Lucy in 2 sittings, but have been there at least 1/2 a dozen times for friends I've referred. They didn't go with Lucy based on her availability so they went with Milton or Andy. I am always pleased with the quality of work from mine to everyone else's work.
My only qualms with My Tattoo is how slow they can be. A 20 minute touch up took 2 hours. It was well worth it for the work but my only advice - if you have the patience and willingness to wait for a quality tattoo, then this is the perfect place.
I came here to get my second tattoo with my friend for her first one.
During our initial visit to "check out" My Tattoo - Kohei greeted us, he was really friendly and made us relaxed. He consulted us on what worked and what didn't and seemed pretty patient with our inexperience and flipping through all the picture albums.
The place is really really clean and you can see rewards and articles every where- you can tell there is a lot of pride in their work and art. The other artists are all very chill and customers are always in and out joking with them, but when it comes time to work- they have laser-sharp focus.
***
Getting an appointment with Kohei was a little difficult- through emails (which he responded a week a later) and phone calls. He called us last minute, the night before I was flying back home, saying his clients canceled last minute.
Kohei was took his time making sure everything was sanitized and every surface he touched was saran-wrapped. What I REALLY appreciated was the artists always make you show their fellow artists for a second opinion to make sure placement and everything looked good before they started inking.
We had originally agreed on a price but surprisingly at the last minute he decided to drop $20 because he said that it was gonna be an easier job than expected. Super stars for the honesty and not trying to gip me.
We both really love our tats and Kohei's workmanship. My kanji script is beautiful and he was very patient with my friend, who was kinda nervous about her first tat, and she was very specific about the font. When they didn't have that font on file, he was willing to download it right there for her.
My only slight complaint was about the other two artists who where there that night- I'm NOT saying anything about their work, but their social skills could improve. Maybe these guys are so chill, they're just used to saying whatever. Maybe they were trying to make us, three girls, feel comfortable, but it ended up making us feel awkward and UNcomfortable. They kinda poked fun at my tattoo after it was done, which i was kinda like..."ha ha....funny..." Then since my friend was getting her tattoo kinda under her bra area - during the "second opinion" they just yelled to each other in the store " hey, your turn, come take a look at her boob!!" uuhhh....
I know I know these guys are serious and good artists, not customer service reps- but still, be a little nicer and lay off the repeated awkward jokes.
Also even though the are scheduled to close at 10PM, when they have customers they worked past Midnight and did not rush.
*you get one free touch up after you've healed.*

Got a tattoo done on my side by Lucy here a couple of days ago and I highly recommend her!
I came in with an idea of what I wanted but I pretty much left it up to her and it came out 100X better than I had pictured it in my head.
The roses I got came out so realistic and I have been getting nothing but compliments.
It was  absolutely worth the 5 hours of pain and the $$ was well worth it considering the fact that it is permanent (duh) and she does GREAT work.  I will only be going to her from now on.
I just got my 1st  wonderful Tattoo from my tattoo. It is a plum blossom and a Chinese character "Yong" which is my boyfriend's name.
At first, I browsed mytattoo's website and found Lucy was a such a pretty artist who could speak Chinese. So I decided to get a Tattoo from her. Â However, when I walked in, a lady told me that Lucy never took walk in customer. It made me disappointed. Nevertheless, that lady introduced MAN to give me a wonderful Tattoo. And she said Man was more experienced at Chinese character than Lucy.
So finally I chose man to give me Tattoo. And Man asked me some questions and what I really wanted. And then he told me to come back next day.
Around 4pm On Sunday, Man called me to remind me of having dinner before coming by. It seemed so nice that he really cared his customers. And when he tattooed me, he always had a very good manner and talked with me to comfort me. Actually, he was so fast and experienced. It is a Little bit complicated Tattoo, he only spent less than 2 hrs to finish though. And it really looked perfect.
And My boyfriend loves it so much too. Thanks!
Later, I may post my tatoo to show MAN's good job..
Typical Tattoo Joint.
I've been to plenty of Tattoo Shops from Victorvilles (Crossroad) to Long Beach (Ink Assassins. The atmosphere of the place was slightly uncomfortable not because of the Tattooo Artists, or any of that. But the customers that were actually there. Constantly gawking and staring while I was discussing with KOHEI about my tattoo. But anywho its pretty snazzy.
The setting seemed family friendly, and a no pressure attitude to the place. But what I was more impressed with was the pricing of the place. 60.00 Sketch Charge, and $100.00 an hour. But thats because my tattoo was very customized and very colored.
Oh, and there tattoo portfolio on their website doesnt do justice for their actual work in person.
My friends got their piercings here. I thought the staff members were really cool and their work even cooler. :] Â I personally haven't gotten anything done here, but I wouldn't mind coming back if I were thinking of getting anything.
"Man" helped out my friend with her most recent piercing. He busted out one of those so-lame-it's-funny jokes, because he's "not a boy, he's a 'Man'".
. . . Â Geeeeetttt iiiitt???? (at least, that's what his joke was to us. I kinda feel bad that none of us laughed at the time though. But when I think back on it, I still chuckle here and there.)
LOL they're cool.
I had my first tattoo done here ages ago.
A couple of Chinese characters to be exact.
It was rushed and the Chinese gentlemen that did the work wasn't exactly friendly or maybe I was just timid. (Come on, the guy was huge and tatted up from head to toe! I wished I remembered his name)
At that age I didn't know any better but now that I do, I know the
the work is lacking. (and I will get it redone)
Fast forward a couple of years later, came back with a group of friends to have our belly pierced on impulse. (A Hispanic gentlemen did the honor) Yes, it was painful but mines turned out absolutely aligned while my friend not so lucky. It was not aligned.
I can't vouch for the other artists but...
Moral of the story, Do your research and get a consultation. It's important that the place is clean, the artist is reputable but also that you're comfortable.
I got my first tattoo done here. I went here because they specialized in Chinese/Japanese Characters.
I think the artwork done at this place is amazing from the books however the guy I got my tattoo from, Kohei, needs some practice. My tattoo was rushed and he created scar tissue which caused my tattoo to keloid. I have another tattoo and know that it was how it was done rather than my skin.
As well, the people that work there have bad attitudes. And the boss is a jerk. He is rude and doesnt smile. He continued to pull people away from their jobs in the middle of the process. And would ask for assistance on special customers escorted to the back while everyone else waits. The service is truly terrible.
In the end I like my tattoo, that I designed myself, but I wouldnt go there again.
I just visited My Tattoo and I was really impressed! The place is really nice, clean, and welcoming (in comparison with all the dark scary tattoo parlors I'd visited before).
I made an appointment for Friday night with Milton, who seems like a really cool/legit guy. He said that one of the reasons My Tattoo is so nice is because they have set rules that the employees actually follow, which was obviously good to hear.
They ask for a $20 deposit up front, and the minimum charge is $60 (to play for clean tools and stuff). What really sucks is that it's nonrefundable. Â
One of the employees called me the day of my appointment to say that Milton wouldn't be in to do my tattoo that night. I was pretty bummed because I had my heart set on getting the tattoo done then (it was a late birthday present). I went to My Tattoo that night to ask for my deposit back...I just felt that it was sorta sketch that I had made an appointment and put money on it, only to be disappointed. My tattoo, however, would not refund my money, which, although understandable, was seriously lame.
So, instead, I went to Inkface that night. I didn't even need an appointment! I walked in, and about 10 minutes later, they were sketching my tattoo. Nice!
Super chill atmosphere. The Lakers game was on too, so good enough for me! Andy and Milton are the biggest sweethearts :) I came here to get a latin tattoo on my back that I've been thinking about for a while now, and they were super helpful. They kept me laughing the whole time, and allowed me to do a walk-in even though I called an hour and a half before closing. Yes, it was a kind of "oh eff it, why not" kind of spur of the moment thing :D And till now I still don't regret it.
I wanted it clean and basic, and Andy did just that for me. He was kind of bummed that my tattoo was so simple for him to do, but oh well :) He does good work - he checks, double checks, triple checks, and asks MIlton to okay it before he starts tattooing. Even when I said it looked fine, he was like, "No! I want this to be effing straight!" hahaa.
Anyway it healed real quick - in about 8days :) It looks perfectly fine, and people that see it say that the lines look really clean and whatnot. Tattooing is addicting, that's for sure. If i do decide to go and get another one, I'm definitely coming back! Â :)
Hello. Â I just called My Tattoo in Alhambra, and spoke with Milton. Â His attitude was outstanding. Â I really like him. Â I want a Chinese tattoo "love" on my right inner wrist, when the time is right for me. Â Milton was awesome. Â I will remember him, when I want the tattoo done.
God bless.

After spending 12 hours (10 actually sitting) here last night, I have to say I was impressed with the place. The shop downstairs is really not much different than any other normal tattoo shop. It was very clean and the staff is very friendly.
I got the pleasure of booking an appointment with Yang Zhuo, a guest artist from Beijing. Yang Zhuo is not on the staff and I can't speak for how the work of the other staff members is except that I did see some excellent work from the owner Jess Yen on some other people.
The area I got work done was in the loft upstairs which was a really clean and calming atmosphere for me and just impressed me way more than I had expected. This place is very clean and very professional. If you know Mandarin that could help you as many of the staff speak Mandarin and there are others who speak Spanish and Japanese too.
Yang Zhuo was very professional, fast, and detailed. Â I couldn't be happier with my work so far and I can't wait to finish it up. Will post pics soon. I would give Yang Zhuo's work 10 stars.....SO HAPPY!!!!
I had a terrible experience here. I went to get a tattoo and met w/ Kohei. He basically took my money (they require a $60 drawing fee upfront).
My piece was a big one, so he took pictures and said he would get back to me a week later. We made an appointment. I also shot him an email with my own pics and some vector artwork of the piece. His dubmass didn't even know what a .EPS file was. If you're an artist and work in illustrator or photoshop, you should.
The day of my appointment he calls me two hours before saying he can't find his own pictures or my email. It had been a week and he didn't do anything. He was trying to pull a rush job. Terrible!
He apologized and I told him that I needed to trust my tattoo artist and that he should have called me sooner. I had a friend rearrange her schedule to come check out the art w/ me.
When we finally got to the art about a week later, he said he would show the work to his boss and call me the next day. About two weeks later he calls and asks if I'm still interested because he never heard from me. What a jerk.
I sent an email to the shop owner and never got a response.
MyTattoo might tattoo well, but their customer service sucks. I will never go here again and I recommend you don't either.
I can't say they suck. Cause they don't.
When I got my first tattoo here, it was done by "Man".
He did my lower back of 4 chinese characters.
What was funny was that I had my mother write out what I wanted and Man checked it up in the chinese book to make sure the characters were right. He gave me the newer generation on how we write .. "Karma"
I honestly dont know what is a bad tattoo and what's a good one.
Someone has told me that my tattoo wasn't too great because it has really scar-d my skin. Not sure if its true.. but I don't regret it at all.
Milton did my ankle. I was pretty scared of the location I was laying on. I was afraid someone might push my chair and I'm done for.
Well the usual, bled a little, and when it heeled it looked great. He said red would look awesome on my skin tone and he was right. There was a shading that I swore he messed up on. So when I went back to ask him if he messed up he said no. But when I ask others, they told me he did.
A bit confusing.. but live with it right.
I got my belly pierced there, not sure who did it. Too long ago.
It was pretty good. Laying down looking up into a mannequin with big tits and pierced nips calmed me down. My belly pierce is aligned straight and no problems. :]
I too, lost my tattoo virginity here. Â The shop is on a busy street, so it's easy to miss, but there's parking in the back, so it's easy to get in and out.
Kohei did my tattoo and it's been about a year and a half since and it's still very crisp and dark. Â The tattoo also healed very quickly. Â If you're looking for someone to do Asian themed or tribal tattoos, this is a good place to go. Â Kohei is also known for his "brush stroke" style characters which looks really awesome.
NOTE: When you make an appointment, call in advance before you come in to make sure they did not take a walk in, or else you could be waiting a very long time, but other than that, the work was excellent.
I will always remember My Tattoo because this is where I lost my tattoo virginity... as my friend calls it.
She wanted to get something done, which then prompted me to get mine done.
Their eye for perfection is incredible. Andy is the man and he totally made my first time... actually enjoyable. He had to redraw mine because it wasn't perfect and they continually double/triple checked with the other artists to make sure it looked good throughout the drawing and tattooing process.
They took their time and I really appreciate that since it was my first and it is something permanent on my body.
I'm definitely hitting up this place again for my next one :]
OH YEAH BRING CASH!
Went here today to get my snake bites (two holes on your bottom lip on the sides) done. The guys were so very nice and friendly, we had small talk and they made sure I was comfy. My piercer was Milton, tall guy with a middle lip piercing and inked. They made sure I knew exactly how to clean it ( i have horrible memory so i forgot half an hour later..LOL, i got it tho). They took me in right away, no wait at all. I was pierced within 15 mins of walking in the door, papers signed and all. Milton was really professional and took the right precautions. He made sure I was comfy and made sure I understood that he was a pro haha. And like he said, it didnt hurt at all. It was great. I'm very happy.
They also told me that if i needed help switching rings, i could come back to them and they'd help me out. They took really good care of seeing that my piercings were even and asked the other employees to make sure too. I felt really comfortable and confident about my piercing.
It turned out great =]
I uploaded a pic =]
This place was OK. My friends and I got our ear pierced. I believe it's called a Tragus. My friends and I got it done which was very painful but managed to be troopers. However my last friend was having the most trouble. The guy who pierced her ear, could not get the earring to close because it was a hoop with a ball. He was very rough with her but did manage to get it in. So we left.
A few days later, my friend with the hoop earring, had the ball pop out accidentally. She went back to the same guy that pierced it before and when she got there, he kept her waiting for almost an hour. He then helped her, hurt her, was rude to her. He then got frustrated, took the earring out and wanted to charge her another $30 to pierce her ear again! How rude! Then they didn't even refund her money.
Please don't get anything pierced here or don't bother going at all. They claim on their website they are friendly and helpful but really they are not. Please DO NOT GO HERE!
My girlfriend recommended My Tattoo after I told her I wanted to get my naval pierced. Â I told her about my issues with sensitive skin and me being prone to infection. Â She told me not to worry because she also had the same issue. Â All I had to do was wash my belly button with this seawater spray that could be purchased at the tattoo parlor. Â
I finally got the nerve to pierce my belly. Â The piercer was real quick and relaxed. Â He looked like he knew exactly what he was doing. Â It didnt hurt at all! Â I was surprised! Â ***wiping the sweat off my forehead*** Â 2 months afterwards, it got infected because my clothing kept rubbing on the piercing. Â I also lost my ring and I attempted to put it back on. Â With a new wound, you are not supposed to take the ring in and out. Â OOPSIE!
I went to re-pierce my naval. Â This time, this was a different piercer. Â He looked kinda shaky and a newbie. Â I was kinda freakin' out and later realized, the piercing didnt hurt. Â PHEW! Â I got home and showed my boyfriend my new piercing. Â He commented that my piercing was crooked. Â CROOKED!!! Â Are you kidding me?! Â He was supposed to be a pro-fess-ion-ally! Â The piercing tilted more to the left. Â I was soo disappointed. Â Well, it got infected again because I realized a big bump was forming on the outskirts of my piercing. Â I had no choice but remove the piercing. Â
Third try is a charm, right?! Â I went back to My Tattoo for the 3rd time in my life. Â The piercer put the piercing in and then out. Â He pushed the piercing in and then retrieved. Â I was screaming in pain and he was explaining to me that I had scar tissue and that's why I was in so much pain. Â I went home happy because I didnt have a crooked piercing anymore. Â I took care of this baby like it was a newborn. Â I patted and dried the piercing after every shower. Â I made sure that the wound was clean. Â I didnt wear any clothing that would irritate that part of my body. Â As I was sleeping one night, my bracelet got caught onto my piercing. Â I moved my hand and I yanked the piercing. Â A sharp pain sent a signal to my brain and I woke up real fast. Â The few days after that, I noticed the bump forming. Â Then puss started coming out of the bump. Â I knew I messed up again! Â Strike 3-I was out! Â
This was my naval piercing experience. Â IT was not the best!
It smells sterile in here and there is no air conditioner. The guys are all really cool. My friend had the pony tail asian dude. Â He is hard core. He does really cool chinese characters. We waited for 3 hours for my friend to get his tat done. I wanted to pass out.
They also have playboy on the waiting table, along with neo geo and ms. pacman... that kept me entertained for..... 18 minutes.
The end product looked pretty good.
i felt like i was on an episode of Miami Ink. The End.
If you are looking for reputable and veteran piercers, don't come here. Â Come here for tattoos though, great artists. Â
Although I didn't have a particular "bad" experience with the two piercings I got over here, but while piercing my lip, the dude was kinda shaky (though I don't blame him because I was cussing him out like he did something f'd up -- I'm sorry). Â I asked how long he's been piercing, and he said "2 years." Â By now that answer would change to '4 years' because that was 2 years ago. Â
My friend is close friends with the owners and I've seen his tattoos. Â Done VERY nicely. Â They know what they are doing ...
Prices are regular ... if you get more than 1 piercing, you get a discount of around $10. Â If you talk to them, they'd knock off 20% (but I'm guessing you have to be a girl - heh). Â
This reminds me, I need to get a new ring for my targus ...
