I hate it when yelp deletes my reviews! Those are obviously all of my pictures yet this comes up again as a place to review, I digress.
Anyway, pretty cool shop if you are hanging out outside there is music blaring to welcome you and when you go inside it is a pretty big tattoo parlor. Employees are pretty friendly and it is not just tattoos, you can find cool t-shirts here as well. Amazing display of tattoo art and portfolios, you could probably sit here for awhile just gazing through each of them.
Very clean shop, check it out.
A mixed bag. Â My son got his first tattoo there, a rather large piece, and it turned out beautifully. Â Some flaws, but nothing that can't be fixed later.
I, however, went in for a very small piece. Â This was not my first piece and I take excellent care of my tattoos. Â I knew the day after I got it that it wasn't going to turn out well. Â The skin started splitting ( could see through to raw skin). Â There are several areas where scarring occurred. Â The arm has seen 37 years of sun and so the skin is not as pristine as a 20 year old's. Â Perhaps this was not taken into account as it should have been and the skin couldn't handle it. Â However, I have a rather large tattoo on my other arm, from another artist in California just a year before, and I had none of the same problems. Â
The artist, in spite of the deposit given to him to draw up the design, both times was unprepared when it came time for the appointment, having not finished, or in my case, even started on the design. Â
All of the artists here have wonderful portfolios. Â No flash, which is absolutely in their favor. Â However, my son and I both will not be returning, neither for new work nor for my touch up. Â One great tattoo and one not so great from the same artist doesn't exactly encourage confidence, and we don't feel comfortable jumping from artist to artist within a studio. Â
I'd suggest anyone coming here for a simple, less-than-challenging piece make sure the artist isn't just willing but grateful for the job. Â A single dot of ink should be done with the same care as a full sleeve.
Not your ordinary tattoo shop. Beautiful art adorns the walls and contemporary artisan produced jewelry is displayed in a glass case. The employees/ artists are very professional and friendly. It's a calm and obviously professional environment...not full of hipsters trying to make the scene...That is a blessing in itself. You will find NO flash art at Red Sky Studio!
I have been working with the owner and lead artist, Philip J. Felix on a large piece for over a year. Philip is an amazing artist with many accolades under his belt. All tattoos by Philip are free hand drawn on your body NEVER traced. He has an amazing ability to draw images that not only mirror your musculature, but move with your body to create a mesmerizing effect.
I have been equally impressed with the work I have seen from the other artists in the shop.
I don't know why I'm only the second reviewer of this amazing custom art tattoo shop. Maybe Tucson isn't as big a fan of Yelp! as San Diego is and I haven't been in town long, but I have spent some time visiting different Tucson shops and checking out a lot of the area artists on line. From what I've seen, Red Sky Studio, is the best around.
The work is original, the staff is friendly, and the shop is beautiful. I sat for Lisa Cardenas today and I couldn't be happier with the end result. I popped in about a week ago with an idea and some very basic designs and in just a few days Lisa came up with a drawing that completely captured the look I wanted. She's not much of a talker while she's plying her trade, but her talent is how I found her in the first place, and I plan on returning to her for more work.
This isn't your typical strip mall tattoo shop with flash covering the walls under fluorescent lights and questionable levels of ability among those who work there. Everyone at Red Sky is an artist and their walls proudly display their abilities in many mediums. I have heard that some potential customers have been scared away because they assumed the prices at Red Sky must be too steep based on their professionalism and custom decor, and to this I have two comments: First, the price I was quoted before work began seemed extremely fair and consistent with the prices I've encountered in tattoo shops where I've had work done before, from San Diego and LA and Vegas to New York and North Carolina. Second: "The bitter taste of poor quality lingers far longer than the initial sweetness of a cheap price."
When you enter the 4th Avenue location with floor to ceiling windows the ambient light and large colored tile concrete floors immediately give way to thoughts of an Art Gallery.
WIth Canvas Oil Paintings, Illustrated Prints, Professional Sketches, and a T-Rex sculpture in view you immediately might forget this is a tattoo parlor. The staff is not your typical coffee monkey scenester kid, these pros are illustrators and accomplished artists who happen to be tattoo artists.
Felix the mastermind at the establishment walks you through all stages of your tattoo with the patience of Buddha and the wisdom of Socrates. His casual nature lends the air that he knows more about tattoos than is responsible for one individual to know, and he does.
The shop is very professional, clean, and in the heart of 4th avenue.
You wont find rando college kids here looking for a drunk Chi Oh tattoo(in fact I hope they turn you away) or some other flash bullshit. This place is about integrity and honest work. Come with your thoughts and they will draw them out for a small fee.
This is a shop owned and operated by artists, not ink junkies and random "i like to draw people" who picked up an electronic needle.
Come for the art stay for a tattoo. Â Piercing's also available.
