Got my nose pierced by Dee. Ermergerd. It didn't even hurt. My ear piercing was more painful because she is PRO. I'm going there for my next piercing or tattoo!

Just recently visited Dee to re-pierce the second hole in my ears and to re-pierce my nose. What can I say that everyone else hasn't already said...the lady is PRO. Her space is immaculately clean, she is steady with her hands, and her technique is flawless. And, bonus, she has really great energy.

Go see Dee. She'll treat you right.

Finally a tattoo shop that also does piercings! Walked in on a busy day and was treated like royalty. I decided to get my nose pierced and Dee was the Angel that did it! She made sure I was completely comfortable and alright with everything she did by asking me if anything hurt and apologizing if anything did hurt -which surprisingly, it didn't! I'm so happy I found this place. I had such a great experience with Dee I'm either going to 1. bake her some gluten free cookies or 2. get something else pierced. Thanks so much Dee, you are the BOMB dot Com!

Dee makes piercings quick and painless! I'll only trust her with my piercings from now on. She's really great and makes sure you're breathing and calm before anything happens. She really is wonderful and if you're thinking about getting anything pierced, go to Dee. :)

The first thing out of Dee's mouth was, "You need a doctor's note."  Bam - right back to 3rd grade.     Why tattoos?  Why now?  Chemo.  There's a huge chance of losing my hair - everywhere.  Once this happens, there's nothing to be done until after the chemo ends.  I decided to "strike first" and look presentable, should my hair fall out.  Vanity.  Never having  considered tattoos and not being especially fond of tattoos, I needed help.   It was Friday and I was to start chemo on Monday.  One of my cousins has tattoos.  His artist said this was a specialty.  Next, another cousin's hairdresser has tattoos and works in downtown Oakland, California.  Seriously, if you want tattoos, go to the tattoo capital.  She referred me to Sacred Tattoos - ask for Dee.  "Hi Dee.  I was referred to you by PJ at Ajuda Day Spa.  I'm having my first chemo treatment on Monday and want to get my brows and eye lids lined, can you help?"  Dee:  "I'm booked pretty solid for tomorrow, what about Sunday between noon and 5pm?"  Me:  "Sunday is definitely out.  It's Easter and I'm in charge of the scavenger hunt at 3pm and I don't live in Oakland."  Dee:  "Can you come in when we open at noon on Saturday?  Hey wait, you're starting chemo on Monday?  I'll need a doctor's note.  I come in contact with cancer and alopecia patients frequently and it is rare for doctors to approve tattoos this close to any kind of treatment."  Me:  "I already asked and they said I could as long as it was before the first treatment which is Monday."  Dee:  "I'll need a note from your doctor - not your GP - from your oncologist stating they know you are doing this and it is OK.  Here's my email."  I thanked Dee, hung up the phone and immediately emailed Dr. Norton and her assistant, Elizabeth, and they sent the note along.  Dee didn't want me to "bring one in."  Did she think I'd forged notes in my past?!?   As I processed this, I was becoming more attached to Dee without having met her yet.  She was concerned about my health, knew what I was going through and wasn't about to be unprofessional.  Stars to Dee.   Saturday loomed on my horizon.  At swimming on Saturday morning, one of my friends said, "What about your lips?"  What??!!??  "Lips?"  She said, "Yeah.  If you get your lips lined, you only need a little gloss and you'll look great!"  Who knew? Deciding before I left home that I was on a huge adventure, I dressed up - dress, fluffy velvet jacket and suede boots.  My Saturday "color board" said black/white/grey - I had them all and the description:    practical tasks, followed by feasting, revelry and opulence.  Brunch with my cousins and they were so excited and stunned that I was actually going to do this.  At noon, we arrived and Dee was ready.  Yes, when I looked around I was "overdressed" however, Dee enjoyed my enthusiasm.  Really - how many people dress up to get tattoos?  She started with a sharpie on my eyebrows.  Next it was my eye lids lined - top and bottom.  I'll admit I was a novice.  When Dee drew on the eye lid liner with the sharpie I'm thinking, "I could probably have done this at home - it really isn't so painful."  Not kidding.  At the end of the session, I confessed this to Dee and she almost fell over with laughter.  Ahhhh ignorance.   When I asked about tattooing my lips, Dee said, "Just a liner - not the whole lip.  What color do you want?"  I've learned in life if I have chosen a professional and it is NOT my field of expertise, I'm paying them to make this happen well.  I also had my cousin who ROCKS with colors and tones.  They also picked the style for my brows.  Remember - this is permanent makeup.  I had no idea what to say.   Background and details planned, the tattooing began.   I remained horizontal for the next three plus hours.  Dee started with the brows.  Wipe on the numbing lotion, needles, pain, wipe off the area, add more numbing lotion, needles.  Repeat many times.  So many times.  Once finished, the visual - WOW - perfect.  Then the cold compresses.  Next - the eye lids -top then bottom.  This was a bit more intense.  Dee started counting for me.  1-2-3 so I would know when it was ending.  The lower lid was the hardest as she had to keep my eye lids open and me looking up.  The natural tendency of the eye lid is to close with this kind of pressure, noise and closeness.   When Dee was halfway I really thought she was finished.  How much pain?  Scale of 1-10 - mostly in the 3-6 range.  There was probably 10% which was not painful at all.  Once or twice it felt like a razorblade.  No pain, no gain.  Then the cold compresses.  There's a lot of lip area - a lot.  I remember one 5 minute break when Dee needed some extra supplies.  Other than that, we were new best friends.  Several of her colleagues came in to see what was happening, to see if we needed anything.  It was a happy place for me.  Not exactly Disneyland, but for my time there, a very happy place on my life journey.

Just finished my 4th tattoo from Oey, I figured it was time to give him a good review.  This latest tattoo is a half sleeve on my left arm.   He did  a great job with the concept, turning my album art work into a tattoo.  4 hours later, I have a great new tattoo.

Oey is great, hire him for your next tattoo party.

    This is for Dee-

Went in to get my septum pierced on a Friday night. I arrived as she was supposed to be off for the day but she was kind enough to squeeze me in! She helped me pick the right jewelry for my piercing explained everything as she was doing it.

I definitely recommend her! She is awesome!

I had gotten a tattoo back in 2010 I think. The staff was nice and friendly and they did a wonderful job on my tattoo. I plan to come back here seeing that I pass this place everytime I walk down Jack London Square. My friend have gotten their piercings done here and the lady who does them, makes them as painful as can be. Pure perfection. ;-)

I went to get my septum redone by Miss Dee after reading all of her amazing reviews.

They're all spot on. Dee ended up tapering my old piercing open, which was virtually painless, with the added advantage of being cheaper.

Dee is gentle and knowledgable, and super nice. I left really happy, and will recommend her to anyone who will listen.

5 Stars for Melissa at Sacred Tattoo!

I had two sittings with her for a large-ish leg tattoo this year. She is by far the best artist I've worked with so far. She's very personable which makes the many hours of having to sit still much more bearable. She doesn't give off the air of elitism that many tattoo artists do these days.
Her artwork - tattoo and otherwise - is absolutely beautiful. She really took the time to figure out exactly what I was wanting and took the time in between sessions to sketch it out. She has very high standards for what she'll put on someone's body and does her best to make it look great no matter how strange the request.

I would definitely recommend her to friends!

hmmm, its been 4 years since i got that tattoo.... 4 big/beautiful tattoos later I'm beginning to think Melissa was not a very experienced artist. In fact, in comparison to all the other artists who've dont work for me, this place kind of gave me a shitty tattoo. The tattoo that Melissa gave me I have since had fixed by another shop. really not happy with these guys and i would never dream of going back. nothings worse that being unsatisfied with a freakin tattoo.

Got my tattoo here about a 6-8 months ago. I spent a month searching around for the right place, and every shop I went too they would tell me that the design I wanted done was too big for the specific spot. Walked into Sacred Tattoo, and met Andy, he told me no problem and to come back in a few days to check out the sketch. It was perfect, and i got it done that day. The amount of detail and just all around work Andy did on my arm blew me away. This symbol men't a lot too me and it turned out absolutely amazing. I would recommend anyone to get their inc done at Sacred Tattoo, and talk too Andy, the guy is a freakin genius.

Andy if you see this, I cant thank you enough for the Byzantine Eagle you put on my arm. I'll be coming by with a friend soon to get more ink done.

So I didn't get tattooed here, let me say that right off the bat. I went in today to get a tattoo and was ignored for about five minutes. Finally a girl who seemed to have better things to do came over and asked about my design. I had it ready and brought it in. She called over an artists who glanced at it, quoted a price, said he could do it in a few hours and walked away. I realize poeple are busy, but some customer service would have been nice. i was prepared to drop some money on a tattoo and they were distant to the point of rudeness and very obviously felt i did not belong there. well, neither does my money. go to Temple tattoo, they are fantastic, this place, not so much. the art might be good, but i couldn't get work done to tell

Dee is amazing! I got some new piercings yesterday and she is seriously so cool. She explained everything in detail, let me ask stupid questions, and double check her marks to make sure everything was where I wanted it to be. Her demeanor was super relaxing and made the whole experience way better than I expected. I will only get piercings from her from now on. The prices were also very reasonable.

    ink #4

a few months back last year (on a whim) i got a tattoo at five and dime ... meh was the experience (see review). luckily, it was just a script quote on an area of the body that is often covered (prude!). that experience kinda turned me off on tattoos for a minute...but i knew i wanted to get another ink on my tricep area but wasn't sure what and when to do it. then after talking it over with a friend who had all of his work done at Sacred through Andy, I decided to check it out. I had an idea of the design I wanted, but it needed a lot more tweaking to make it cute and something i'd be willing to have for THERESTOFMYLIFE, especially on an area of my body that is so visible. so we went in and told him what i had in mind. Andy said he'd work on some sketches and we'd go from there.

the day of the appointment, we went in and he showed me a couple of designs, nothing that absolutely wowed me. so we spent the next 30 minutes toying with other ideas. Andy was super patient. he went back and forth to his sketch table to incorporate more ideas and suggestions from us. finally, he came back with a design that was without a doubt, what i wanted. within 35 minutes, i was branded with ink #4. it was painful but Andy was great! patient, funny, easy to talk to and so amazing at his art. even my dad likes the tattoo!

i'm already planning ink #5...the final one. i'll most likely go back to Andy for the work.

Just a quick update...the eyebrow piercing was so painless and trouble-free that I went back 4 weeks later for a snug piercing. Same great experience. Now, the snug piercing is a more painful (and harder-to-heal) piercing than the eyebrow, but I would still say the actual piercing itself (that moment when the needle goes through) wasn't that bad. It really hurt a lot more AFTERWARD and by that, I mean like it started hurting a lot about 3 days after so much I had to take ibuprofen for a few days until the pain and swelling subsided some. But anyway I read up and that is totally normal for a snug piercing. It's now been almost 2 weeks and it is doing OK, though still a little swollen and extremely sensitive (I just try to stay far, far away from it except when doing salt water cleanings!)

Anyway, just like before, the experience was fantastic...fast, friendly and professional, and came out looking great. I love the fact that she does not use a clamp when she pierces...as I recall, the clamping usually hurts more than the actual piercing, so I really dig the fact that she's comfortable and confident enough not to need to use it. I am already looking forward to getting another piercing there, but I think I will wait a while for this snug to heal!

I have been here twice, once for piercing and once for a tattoo and I am very happy with both.

The piercing was quick, clean, and as painless as possible when you're going through the cartilage of your ear.  Dee had just pierced my friend and I decided on a whim to get one too.  Dee was extremely professional and clearly knew what she was doing, in helping me decide on where to get the piercing that would best suit my ear.

I got tattooed by Andy and it is amazing.  He was also very professional and clean/sanitary, and did the original design of the tattoo.  It's absolutely beautiful - I don't see where to add a photo on yelp so if anyone wants to commend and let me know, I'll add it.  The colors are perfect and bright.  Everyone compliments me on it.  It's on my lower calf and when I got a pedicure today, two of the pedicurists asked me where I went so they could go to the same place!

I also saw a really really drunk person come in and try to get tattooed and was very impressed by the professionalism and respect of the staff - the guy was in a bad way and they explained to him why they couldn't tattoo him without ever being derogatory.

    Anyway, beautiful work.

I am from the East Coast and I wanted a tattoo to remind me of California, I know cliche right? lol I was referred to this place by a member of my team and to tell you the truth, she was completely on the mark. I called ahead to make sure they had time for me and the guy who answered the phone was polite and knowledgeable. I walk in and instantly enjoyed the place, plus playing 80's music always helps. They set my appointment and my artist was great. Highly recommend this place.

Wanted to get some new ink and after checking Yelp reviews made the decision to go see the folks at Sacred Tattoo. I was a walk-in and Eric was up next so we discussed what I wanted and set up an appointment for the following day.

Eric took my idea and re-drew the design to fit around my arm and make the piece more complete. After a couple of hours the job was done and I couldn't be happier.

Nice guy and a very good artist who listens to what you want and makes sure it's all good before he starts inking. I'll be back for some more work soon!

I love this shop! The atmosphere is always great and the staff are really helpful and nice! Dee, the piercer at Sacred is the best! She is very down to earth, sweet, honest, professional and overall a great person, I just love her! She has been doing my piercings for 3 years and I've never had a bad experience with any of my piercings that she has done. I'm so glad I found her because from here on out she will be doing all my piercings! I HIGHLY recommend her for any and all piercings and she does permanent makeup! If you have any questions or concerns don't be afraid to ask her, she is extremely informative!

    Piercing Review!

DEE is AMAZING. She is my piercing mom. Hands down the most friendly but professional. She is super sanitary. You can have a conversation with her about anything. I've gotten my Tragus, Navel, Rook, & Nostril done by her. Honestly, just 'cause of her I've had the urge to come back for more piercings. She makes it painless.
She also didn't use the clamp on any of my piercings. That gives me the vibe that she knows and is confident in what she is doing!

On a side note, not to hate, but I had my piercings changed at Zebras in Berks & they don't even compare to Dee. With Dee, I'm honestly handled with care. Go back to Dee to check up on your piercings and to change 'em. They have a selection of Jewelry!

I'm taking my sister to get her Nostril pierced today even!

For you under 18ers, bring your parent, your ID, their ID & your birth certificate! I had to come back twice w/my mom the first time 'cause I didn't know to bring my birth certificate. They need it for their records! If your 18+, just need your ID! :)
Oh! & call to check if Dee is going to be in on the day you want to get pierced. They'll tell you her days & time available! Don't forget to tip!

SICK SICK SICK!!!...i get compliments all the time on the DETAIL of his work...people are constantly asking who does it.  "OEY @ Sacred Tattoo!"  i might as well keep a stack of his business cards with me at all times! No but seriously the man has a great imagination, he's funny, he really cares about how you feel. and of course does amaaaazing work!..No doubt would refer anyone to see OEY!

WARNING: The ink and creativity of Sacred Tattoo will keep you coming back for more!

All the body art I have are from Sacred Tattoo (4 total, but my recent one counts as 20!!). I just finished the biggest tattoo I never thought I'd get! Oey talked me into elaborating my idea into a beautiful rib piece. It was the most painful, hurt-so-good process ever but I am absolutely in love with my new ink!!! I've already received a lot of wonderful compliments; design, colors, how it frames my body, the uniqueness!

Oey is amazing!! You give him an idea and he will turn it into something you'll never think of on your own. He incorporates all aspects of life into the piece and it shows how passionate he is about what he does. I will definitely come back for my next piece with Oey!!

Thorough, imaginative and precise are only a few adjectives that come to mind when I think of my tattoo artist Oey at Sacred Tattoo. I could attempt to spend hours here trying to culminate the right words that best describe the genius and genuineness of his work, but I am afraid the experience is unobtainable through a mere yelp review (I will still try though) but, pass by and experience it for yourself I can guarantee you will not be disappointed.

After having ink-work performed throughout the bay area and other parts of California, I have made a home for my skin at Sacred Tattoo and have no intentions of seeking ink-refuge elsewhere. What I find most impressive is his ability to seamlessly  hop aboard an individuals train of thought and his ability to quickly grasp the concept/idea along with all of the fine details that come with it.  Those that have been other places know this is probably the most nerve-wracking part of getting a tattoo as there is always the lingering fear that it wont come out how you imagined it. With Oey this concern is non-existent.

Cheers to the amazing Oey, thank you good sir for all the quality work you have done and continue to do.

Sacred Tattoo is welcoming, clean, and completely unpretentious. I went in to have my nostril re-pierced, and Dee was kind and funny and so cute! She was really cool and tried to save me a few $$ by just opening the hole, but no luck. The piercing itself was quick and simple and even though I'd already had a piercing there, she asked if I  had any questions or anything.

Overall: Super friendly and helpful! When I decide on my next tattoo, I will definitely choose Sacred Tattoo!

So, a few months ago my wife decided it was time to put a 6 yr. old tattoo idea into action. She was stoked to get it, but she was hung up on the fact that all my friends that tattoo are male...she specifically wanted a female to do the work.
OK- I get in touch with my friend Dee. Dee does the body piercing at this shop, and I can honestly say there is not a finer person out there to trust your body with. She is family in spite of the lack of bloodline and I trust her with everything I have. She told me to look at Melissa's work, and I was well impressed.
Appointment made and off we go to get it done. Now- I am old, and so is my wife. We are way past the attitude at the tattoo shop BS. This place is totally devoid of that. We walked in and were immediately comfortable, greeted by our old friend Jameson and our new friend Astrid (the shop dogs). We were completely relaxed as my wife prepared to sit for the longest session either of us has had.
Like I said, we are old...we are not part of any scene, not part of any hip thing, just folks that think tattoos make people more interesting, and certainly the last people you would expect to see in a tattoo shop (you have to know us I s'pose). We sat and talked to Melissa for a few minutes about what my wife wanted, and it was clear immediately that she absolutely understood what our idea was and how to go about making it a reality. She did the drawing, stenciled it on, and started...all the while being friendly, approachable, and interested. It seemed to really matter to her that we got exactly what we wanted and more importantly that my wife was comfortable.
Tonight my wife lays in bed as I yelp this shop, as a kind of silly homage to the amazing day we had. She has a complete back piece from the amazing Miss Melissa, and it is fantastic. The line style is absolutely perfect, the color is AMAZING, the hand was light (if you have traveled this road, you know what I mean)- the piece is stunning. I can not say enough for the fine people at this shop, but hope this will lead someone else to these doors for the treatment we received.
Thank you all for an unforgettable day- thank you Dee for the recommendation, and thank you Melissa for the incredible beauty that I share my home with, made that much better by your hand.

This review is ALSO for Dee.

Dee is super awesome and amazing. I've done all my piercings myself (4 ear piercings and a stud on my left nostril.)

I couldn't bring myself to do my own septum, since the tear nerves around my septum always brought me sobbing and mourning, just poking it with a sewing needle 'n such.

Soooo, I researched the closest place from my work one morning on a slow shift, and read all these positive reviews concerning Dee's professionalism and experience with piercings. One of the criteria I was looking for when searching for a professional piercer was for them to be female; nothing against the male species--I just wanted someone who could:

1.) Empathize with me if I was ever in pain for who-knows-what reason,
2.) I'd feel just a little bit uncomfortable having a dude stare and touch my face or any other parts of my body, and
3.) This was my first professionally-done piercing.

I went in for myself one random Monday afternoon after work and got my septum piercing done by said awesome woman.

The reviews are all true, and I even told her personally that a bunch of people on Yelp thought she was awesome. She knows nothing about these reviews, but maybe she started checking them after I told her that people loved her!

She is VERY informative, and is willing to answer any questions you may have.

I love Dee--her professionalism, her down-to-earth-ness, and her personality just makes her a really good person to be around with, and especially her dog (I think his name is Jameson). My experience with her work was memorable enough that I came in for her to do my navel piercing. Of course, every piercing hurts when you first get it, but her personality really helps you to not even panic or worry about all these little pinches that only last for less than five seconds.

If you want ANY piercing done, go here. Forreal.

I parked a couple blocks away and walked in to see about getting my nose ring (a simple silver stud) replaced.  Yesterday, the nose ring I had in there for over 12 YEARS fell out somewhere, so I came to replace it.

When I walked in, I thought it would be a quick experience, as in, I go to the counter, point out what I want, someone bends it for me, and BOOM I'm outta there.  They have one designated person who handles jewelry (Dee, she's rad), so you'll have to plan for a possible wait.  I was told to come back in 15-20 minutes.  I walked back to the car, put in more money.  Came back and waited a bit longer.

Dee came out and helped me.  *If you don't see what you want in the case up front, she may have what you need in the back.  She had the simple nose stud for me and bent it to fit $10.  She fit it perfectly.  I think the new stud is smaller than what I had previously so it'll take time to get used to it, but the fitting is great.

I recommend coming in to see Dee for piercings or nose jewelry fittings!

I'm pleased to see all the 5 star reviews for one of the best tattoo shops in the bay area!

I've come here since 2005 for every single tattoo I've ever received, all done by Oey. He is brilliant! Very fair, kind and he works efficiently. Although he typically books months in advance, it's well worth it since A) He's the best, B) It's going to be forever and C) It's BEYOND worth it.

I have not personally done work with the other artists, but I have friends that have, and they are all excellent as well.

As far as piercings go, Dee is THE person to go see. My fiance got her septum pierced by her, and she still raves about her to this day (months later). Overall, this is the place to go.

Also, having accompanied friends to other shops in SF, Berkeley and on the Peninsula, I can say that Sacred is by far the cleanest, nicest, and most professional shop I've ever encountered.

    tl;dr

Go to Sacred, be amazed, never go anywhere else.

I just got a tat from Sacred Tattoo yesterday and had an awesome experience.  The whole process from start too finish was very pleasant.  When we walked in we were immediately greeted.  Both my brother and I were able to get our tats that same day.  The shop itself is very clean & the staff is super friendly.  Oh they also do piercings =P

I was super nervous about getting this tat, but my artist Karl made the whole thing as painless as possible.  He knew exactly how to interact with me, knew when to keep a conversation going, when to stop and give me a break, and even asked the front desk girl to change the music to something more calming.  My piece is so beautiful and I'm so glad I came to Sacred to get it.  Karl is a true artist and I am so grateful!

    This review is for Dee.

    The short: Dee is fantastic.

The long: No stranger to tattoos or piercings, I'm picky about where I go and have had my share of experiences with artists all around the country. My septum piercing with Dee today was exceptional. She was very thorough in explaining the procedure, extremely hygienic (replacing her gloves at least 4 times in the process), light on touch and very personable. She knows her stuff and I highly recommend her. (Honestly, I only signed up with Yelp because I thought she deserved a great review.)

The shop is clean and the vibe is pretty easy going!

This review is for Dee.  Along with being an amazing piercer, she is a fantastic person.  If you are wanting to be pierced by someone who is skilled AND totally down to earth, this is where you need to go.  She is professional, explains everything to you and is always happy to answer questions if you have them.

Bonus to all that, the staff in the shop is always helpful and the people watching on Broadway is amazing :)

I have known one of the artists here for almost two decades.

I have watched his work go from incredible to epic.

Oey's work is fantastic and he is a consummate artist. He puts you at ease. Creates or finishes the design you want. And the end product is always stunning.

One of my bigger pieces is a Pushead (artist) style skull. I was in town for the night and told Oey that I was itching to get this. He told me to meet him in the shop in an hour.

It felt like I gave him no time to prepare and I really felt like I was rushing him. What I got that night was a magazine worthy piece of art on my arm.

    Thanks, Oey.

I can't speak to the tattoo work here, but Ms. Dee is simply the best for piercings. I didn't need to make an appointment, and when I came here everyone was super friendly. Ms. Dee was so professional and explained everything to me, including care for after my piercing. She is super knowledgeable and treated my simple ear lobe piercings as if it were as important as any other piercing (though not as radical). She didn't try to sell me any sort of product to clean my piercing, but instead told me how to make it.

Ms. Dee made me feel comfortable and confident about my piercing. If I ever get anything in the future, it will be with her.

So, I had been considering getting my back dimples pierced for over a year & a half now, because anchors aren't as easy to remove as a normal piercing, these are more like "forever piercings" to me, since the scar tissue has to be cut in order to remove them from under the skin. I thought about it, talked about it, looked at a million pics & drooled, I finally decided to get it done today, you only live once, right?!

So I walked in, asked for Dee...I filled out some paperwork, and asked a bunch of questions about picking the best anchor ends for survival through the healing period...and I though some tiny stars would be great...but Dee brought up some really good points I hadn't even thought of...so I decided on some small clear jeweled ones instead, nothing to get snagged & they sat pretty flush to the skin too. She also pointed out that the bigger the jewel disk, the less oxygen the piercing gets...(this is why she's so good at her job!).

So I got onto the table, and she explained everything as she was going, she stayed really calm, and I told her she would be a great midwife...she's such a calm/relaxed person & in turn, makes everyone else relaxed! So anyway...back on track here..She didn't use clamps, she pulled up my skin & pinched, which probably made the needle going in way less painful...and the did her thing & was done in a couple seconds. It really didn't hurt at all, seriously, just a little pinch. If she were to take longer & dink around in the hole (like some other crap piercers I've been to)...it would've started hurting...but Dee was just really quick, no hesitation, no dinking around in the piercing. She put Band-aids over the piercings, I asked a couple more questions & I was outta there!

Best piercing experience ever. I would definitely go back to Dee because she's VERY experienced & really knows what she's doing! She even recommended that I come by in a couple weeks or few mos so she can check up on my piercings. I also asked if it would be alright if I came in when I *think* things are healed...so she can check, because I didn't want to change the ends myself & pull the whole anchor out. She said she actually prefers that =)

    Definitely a 5 star piercer!!

I went in and got my septum pierced.

The piercer at Sacred (Dee I believe HER name is) is just freaking awesome. I tipped her $10 not b/c I am rich but b/c good customer service and knowledge needs to be rewarded. I believe. I LOVE that she is a FEMALE piercer and does NOT need to use clamps. Clamps are akward and get in the way. Nope she used her hands like a true master.

She was warm, yet professional. She was patient with my many questions and although it was close to closing time and a Friday I never felt rushed. I also never felt judged like I have a Industrial Tat in Berkeley (altho they have some beautiful stuff there).

Helpful and attentive - yes I will be going back there for more piercings!

I came in here originally to get a clear nose spacer (due to work restrictions) and ended up getting my ears redone.
The service was phenomenal, the piercer actually cared, and emphasized with my situation.
The whole experience from when i entered to leaving with correctly  pierced ears and a clear spacer was no more than 10 minutes.
I will DEFINITELY be back if I ever need to get any piercing or tattoos done. I HIGHLY recommend coming here to get any type of work done, you will not regret it.

I just received my 10th piercing from here. All the other 9 were from another parlor (and also my bathroom, Parent Trap status..but that's another story). Anyway... Ms. Dee was extremely professional and sweet, even after I made her change the piercing mark FIVE times prior to the actual piercing. Whaddya trooper! She took the time to examine my ears for veins and give me options to pierce on or away from them. I also liked that she was meticulous about changing her gloves. I think she went through at least 3 pairs of gloves. She even asked me to come back in 6-8 weeks for a check-up to make sure I am healing well. Can you say customer service?!!

Ms. Dee is definitely a pro. And a nice one that that. If I were to get another piercing (or tattoo), this would be my stop!

    This review is for Dee!

I went here on Friday the 13th. when they had a sale on piercing. I read a lot of yelp reviews on how great Dee is and let me just say, it is ALL true. I did not mind the wait and she was so kind. My friend and i went there to get our helix piercings and we had a lot of questions and concerns and Dee was one word, SWEET. she was so sweet and patient. she answered all of our questions and was so patient to our hysteria. She really made my friend and i feel so comfortable because we were so scared. I wanted my piercings a certain way and she was nice to put it the way i want too. After we got it pierced she was always asking if we were okay and it helped made it less hurt. i love her!!! She also told us to come back about 6 weeks so she can check up on it, how caring!!

i came back the next day on Saturday the 14th and got my tragus pierced. i loved my piercing and her so much i came back. it was a long wait, but once again she was so nice, sweet, kind, and patient. she also checked up on my helix piercing. the tragus hurt, but it wasn't that bad. She is so thoughtful she told me that i can bring my earring in so she can put it in for me once it healed.

in conclusion, Dee is an awesome possum. go see her if you would like any piercings. :)

    LOVE, LOVE, LOVE THIS PLACE!

wanted to re pierce my nose for the longest time. Spontaneously decided to go to Sacred tattoo 'cause its the only place in Oakland dt,ct area I know of. Walked in wasn't sure if they did piercings? Asked him he said yes and told me it was only 20.00?!!?!? WTF!? So cheap... no to mention so many hot tattoo artists! It was my turn to get my nose done, 3 WORDS : FAST,GOOD,CHEAP! Totaled out to be only 35, but tipped her 5 'cause she was awesome! She worked at the place I got my nose done previously at MOM'S TATTOO AND PIERCING IN HAIGHT IN SF. It costed about 70.00$ when I did it and it was ok.. but this time was perfect! LOVED IT! And also made an appointment to get tatted too! The guy was nice and drew an example for me on my body! OMG.. I ABSOLUTELY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE!!!

One bright and early summer day, I decided it was about time I got my nose ring. I quickly Yelped the most highly recommended piercers in Oakland, and Dee at Sacred Tattoos immediately stood out.

Fast forward a few days: I walk inside, exchange greetings with the staff, and explain that I'd like to get my nose pierced, please. I'm ushered into the back piercing room only minutes later, and happy to discover that Dee is just as friendly, knowledgeable, thorough, and casual-but-professional as all the other reviews would have you believe. I explain to her right away that I'm not at all anxious, but there's a likely chance that I may get dizzy at some point (the needle thing, it's happened since I was three). She nods her understanding and I give her the O.K. to go ahead and do it, already! She checks and double checks that the piercing will be exactly where I want it, and when I inevitably need to sit down for a bit right after the (quick and painless) procedure, she kindly brings me a cup of water and we laugh easily about how silly it is.

Dee is delightful, funny, and sincerely concerned with your satisfaction. She's easily accessible by e-mail, and most of all she really knows what she's doing. Thanks Dee - and other friendly staff members at Sacred Tattoos - for such a pleasant experience! My second visit was even nicer.

Jesse did my tattoo.. he did a good job on my tatt...

I am not sure about how their tattoos are there anymore since I havent been there in a while and the tattoo artists that I knew of are no longer there, but their percings are top knotch...

Great experience every time I have been there.  Andy has done all of my work, and he has done a fantastic job.  Every time I go in with an idea, he is happy to do exactly what I ask, and then add some... which is a great feeling.  They are priced very well, and the entire staff is pleasant, and happy to assist.  Very clean, very professional, and they play great music.  Im not into piercings, but Dee is hilarious and a great person from my experiences with her.  She once went up the street and bought an insane amount of asian treats, and was happy to share some with me.

Highly recommended, and not as busy as Temple (not talking any shit about Temple.)

    Review for PIERCINGS BY Dee:

Dee is amazing so amazing I trust her with my ladies flesh.  She has pierced her a few times, my roomie a few times, friends from LA, and anyone I know who needs a new hole I bring them to her.  Gentle hands, great conversation, non pretentious, and cool as a cucumber.  Dee makes you feel like your chillen in the living room even if nipples are out and ready to get pierced.  She has great prices, great attitude, and never bullshits you around!  If you have any concerns or questions after you've left the shop she always welcomes you and doesn't just shrug you off.  Dee is dedicated to satisfying your every piercing need.

I've never been one to get a spontaneous tattoo. Most of my tattoos were planned and all done by the same artist (Sweet Cicely at Cyclops Tattoo).

I have several bigger tattoos in the works but I wanted to get a small tattoo and quick. I Yelped a bunch of tattoo shops in Oakland and Sacred Tattoos was close by and they accept walk-ins. Perfect.

I walked in and Jesse greeted me. I told him what I wanted, he had me fill out the paper work and he went to draw it up. I got "ego sentio" written in script on my inner left wrist. It means "I feel" in Latin.

The tattoo was quick and painful and I'm happy with it. While I prefer my usual artist for my larger tattoos, I wouldn't mind coming to Sacred for smaller ones.

This update is long overdue but I have to let everyone know that I followed up on getting more work done by the incredible Andy Moreno. I mean, his work is so amazing that I'm constantly finding more and more inspirations that I want Andy to tattoo on me.
And the shop is clean, the staff/artists are so very friendly that comfort is a huge factor in my review. ]
Go to Sacred Tattoo; the artists are all worth it - but Andy keeps me coming back!

I would like to first mention that my tatoo was for the Toys for Tatts Annual Toy Drive. My wife and I both received sparrows from different artists.........Here's the breakdown of the Experience.

When we were first greeted at the store, it was by a very friendly individual who welcomed us with a smile and warm greeting (always important when it comes to ANY customer facing business). She directed us to the page of tattoos to select from so that she can check us in and hand the toys over in exchange. It's the usualy paperwork and valid ID check where we then had to wait about 30-45 minutes before we were called by our artist.........

I was called by James and he definitely did a great job walking through what he needed me to do as well as asking where I wanted to place the tattoo. he did the tattoo in about 20 minutes and i was simple by selecting the exact color of the tattoo........

    OVERALL EXPERIENCE and ATMOSPHERE:

    -Friendly
    -Professional
    -Welcoming
-Funny (they all cheered for the guy who got the early Michael Jackson tatoo)

Their Portfolios of tattoos is impressive and intricate as well as detailed. it does represent their skillset and more

I would recommend people to go here as well as attend next years event for Toys for Tatts to at least experience the joy

This place is LEGIT!  Super non-pretentious and tightly run by some of the most exceptional artists i've seen.

I lucked out and was able to get an appointment on a chance opening in "Oey's" (co-owner of the shop) schedule book, which was completely booked for a month and a half after.  While viewing his portfolio, I knew I made the right choice.  His dynamic style, shading technique and reputation are second to none.  He was very professional and friendly while he was tattooing and did magnificent work.  Oey definitely puts love in his work.  I've already decided that I will go to him for all my tattoos.

Dee, who handles piercings, is a sweetheart.  She remembers me whenever I come in and she did great work piercing my cousin's belly button.

This is in response to a request to remove a previous review I wrote on my visits at  "SACRED TATTOO."   Instead of the Artist simply offering to make things better, he asked me to remove the review.

WARNING:  This maybe a lengthy review for some!  My goal was to express the disappointment of service i received from an artist at  "SACRED TATTOOS."

PLEASE BE AWARE!  This review is not an overall reflection of the service of any other Artist at "SACRED TATTOOS except for the one artist mentioned.   I Thank you in advance for reading it.

Frank, as you read this letter i want you to realize  something: you know and i know not one word of my review or this letter is untrue.  i didn't know you from Adam; until i met you on the day i put a $400.00 down payment on a $1,000.00 tattoo at "scared tattoo."  how you acted towards me as a customer after weeks of work at "sacred tattoo" was totally uncalled for!  yes! you SHOULD had handled the situation much, much better!  but you didn't!  Even months after the incident you did not handle well.

How pretentious! to say MY review was totally UNcalled for?  in all that has happened, i find writing this review the ONLY right adult thing to do! mainly because, i gave it some time before i decided to write a review; giving you a chance to pull yourself together; come to your senses.  when i left "sacred tattoo" i didn't know what the hell hit me?!  i kept thinking:  was he serious? is he kidding? was this a joke? i was in absolute  shock! but what really worried me was would be a stand-up guy?  would he finish the work?  the work i hired him to do!  no!  so, it was then! i decided to write my review!  so, i gave you more time and respect than you gave me when you kicked me out of your shop!  and now you're asking me, me! to take something back?  you should had thought about that before throwing a temper-tantrum the day you threw me out of "sacred tattoo."

One thing you neglected was to think how your actions would affect the other person -  your client!  I am a woman going along into Oakland some times at night; to a tattoo shop where known transients hang out.   The most terrifying thing was seeing a man i just met  and hired burst into anger!  While telling me a tattoo (a tattoo worth close to a grand) is no big deal because i insulted him for asking for brighter color!   to add insult to injury, allowing one of his shop comrades to  join in and laugh at bringing a color  swat as a reference!   and now you tell me, almost eight or nine months later?  you want me to take back my words?  if i did, i would have thought you would had at least offered me an apology first!

And now!  now!   you tell me we you had a problem with me?  if you did you sure had a way of covering it up!  it was total shock when you went off!  i had no ideal things were not cool.   your behavior came not just from left-field, but from?  every time, i walked into  "sacred tattoo"  as your client,  you did nothing to express your discomforts!  and that was the time to do it!    what went wrong?  what happened? what made you so angry that you choose not to finish the work i hired and paid you to finish?!  tell me please, because i am  still, at a complete lost?  frank, the important thing to remember here is: i hired you!  i hired you to do a job and you didn't want to finish it!  if i had to guess what happened, it would no doubt be the times i suggested specific colors on my tattoo; some say this request is not out of the norm.

When i did, you found it offensive .  you took it as a personal insult your artistry.  insulting you was far from my intentions; i  was simply letting you know what i wanted on my tattoo.  what you forgot to realize frank, i was the client!   i  was suppose to get what i  wanted.  the point i want to reinforce frank is: if you found working with me so uncomfortable or  whatever reason, then you should have referred me to another artist!  that would have been the adult thing to do frank!  i gave you no reason to behave badly!  you refused to understand the tattoo you were creating was on my body, for me!  your behavior  i was  like it was your canvas; to do what you wanted.  yes, i was laid back about being there but, that was for the belief in your Craft!

Simply put you refused to give this client what she wanted!  i chose "sacred tattoo shop" out of thousands of tattoo shops  in the bay area!   i chose you, frank, out of thousands of tattoo artist in the bay area.  any other artist would have been able to work through their differences. it makes me very sad you weren't.   you chose to walk away!  you chose not to finish the work i hired you to do.    it is  my right to write about my disappointment in your service.  and that is why i wrote the review! and will keep this review!

    Live in Peace, Kate

I have yet to be tattooed here as i am very happy with my current artist, however ive seen some friends work from here and it looked great.

The reason I am writing this review is to praise MissDee.

I was introduced a few months ago to MissDee through a friend, and got my nostril repierced, and she did a great job. she explained what she was doing, was SO gentle, and was all around very comforting and easy to talk to.

Now, I've been pierced all over, from Zebras, to Brain Drops, to Body Exotic. And I'm not bashing those places as they are mostly good shops, but never, ever have I felt more welcome, acknowledged, and comfortable than when i let MissDee pierce me. She is very experienced at what she does, and will tell you what does and doesn't work on your face, what type of jewelry would be best for your own individual piercing needs, etc....

So, if you're ever around the Oakland/Berkeley area and looking to get pierced, MissDee is who your looking for.

She made me so comfortable and welcomed and relaxed when shes done my nostril, and now both of my anti-eyebrow dermal anchors, and i don't think I'd trust anyone else to pierce me, really.

    Absolutely 5 out of 5.

Sacred Tattoos is a great place to go to for your first tattoo(s). I discovered this place at the Tattoo Expo two years ago.

After speaking with all the tattoo artists at the expo, Andy Moreno of Sacred Tattoos was the most attentive to my needs and saw my vision of what I wanted in my tatoo.  He was not pushy nor money hungry as compared to how the other artists made me feel.

Overall, I am very happy and will only go to Andy for any future tats that I may consider.  All three of my tattoo's were done by Andy so that should be clear indication that this place is definitely worthy of its five stars.

Also, this place is very clean and the staff is very professional.

    Thanks!

I came here after a painful haircut which ended with the gnarlification of my industrial piercing. (Comb, meet bar in my ear. Love it. Make love to it. Then tear out its heart like you tore it out of my cartilage.) I asked Dee to set it straight, and she did, in less than thirty hurt-filled seconds.

While I was there, I decided to get a tattoo. Because that's how I roll-- I walk into shops for one reason and walk out with a tattoo. Except that this was my first (and, to date, only) tattoo.

I had a picture of what I wanted in my phone, and they found a clearer image of it on the interweb. I wanted a simple ginkgo leaf, black and white, small. God smite me, but I don't remember the name of my tattoo artist. He was terrific, though. I wasn't nervous at all, and he made adjustments to the image where I wanted them and explained everything to a T, even making sure I was ok when he put the needle to my skin.

Sidenote: I hate needles. I hate them all. I'm providentially good with pain, but watching that needle stroke the tender underbelly of my wrist was actually the most uncomfortable part. Yet I could not tear my eyes away.

I was awestruck by how accommodating everyone was to a walk-in customer who wasn't technically prepared. I knew this was a reputable tattoo parlor or I would never have let them permanently brand me, but I walked out even happier than I thought I would be with new ink. The staff made the experience tremendous; they made me feel like family.

Addendum: When I wrote "to a T" earlier in this review, I became curious as to the phrase's origin and looked it up. <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fworldwidewords.org&s=c6995c3f3f89a351b5577588f0dde67b2e635a31fc8e0ea67e2523cba7f3d8fe" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://worldwidewords.org</a> told me that the "T" probably came from "tittle" (meaning "a very small amount"). This probably bores everyone not obsessed with words, but saying tittle makes me giggle.

Jesse was my artist.  I took in a pictures the art I wanted done and it was as simple as that.  I'm from the East Coast and got inked on 10/31 and really wanted more but was unable to get an appointment at the place I got inked at.  So, the next best thing - another recommendation from someone I knew - Sacred Tattoo.   Yes, they take walk-ins!

Jesse was a great guy and was willing to let me take a break whenever I wanted.

The only downside - the music was too loud and angry!  I need more relaxing music when getting inked so I can be relaxed.  The only suggestion..change the music or don't have any at all.

Thanks Jesse!  Good luck with your little schtank schtank coming in Feburary!

I had heard great things about this place (plus its just down the street from me) but I was really nervous the first time I went as I was planning my first tattoo.  I met with Frank and we talked about my idea.  I went back a while later and the design he created was exactly what I was going for.

I'll admit, I was pretty terrified when I sat down to finally get the tat done, but Frank was awesome and kept me calm the whole time.  I was the only one getting work done at the time, and everyone else who actually worked there kept walking by and being really supportive and excited for me.

All in all, it was a great experience.  The place is super clean, all the artists are crazy talented, plus it's affordable.

My opinion is a lil biased.

First, I didn't ask price upfront, but I didn't expect to pay so much for taking out my piercings either. I felt bad for asking for a favor without paying, so I intended to buy a bottle of soap.

Anyhow, I had to take out my tragus + rook for medical reasons.
Didn't want to go all the way to Industrial in Berkeley where I got them pierced, so yelped a place near.

The lady was sweet and helpful...but the place smells like weed.

And I didn't expect to be charged $20 for taking out 2 piercings and having them replaced with those rubber thingies that probably costs 50cents each. Is that standard??

Dee ROCKS!  Just got my labret pierced.  I was nervous all day and anxious when I arrived.  Dee had a calming presence about her.  I felt at ease right away.   She was very professional, good communicator and really knew what she was doing.

The piercing it self was totally painless, well, ok, I felt a tiny, little prick, and then it was done.  She asked me to take a nice deep breath and before I completed my exhale it was over.

    I'll be back!!!

I'd been contemplating getting a piercing for a long time. Finally, one night, I turned to my friend and said "Let's do it." He wanted to get one too. I had my nose pierced at Body Manipulations in SF. They were great. I didn't feel like traveling into the city this time though. I looked on Yelp and found Sacred Tattoo.

My friend and I drove on over and were greeted nicely, given the paperwork and told the piercer would be right with us. In came a lady named Dee. She was absolutely awesome. She told me exactly what she was doing, showed how things were sterile, helped me pick the proper jewelry, let me check out the line up before she poked me.

The actual piercing was a piece of cake. It didn't hurt nearly as bad as I was expecting. I'm very happy with the results. Dee even gave me some water after and let me lie there as I rested, post piercing. Hey, how awesome is that.

She gave us her email and website and told us to come back in 6 weeks for a checkup.

She really was great and put me at ease.  I'd highly recommend her.

The best part is, you can have a celebratory beer at The Trappist across the street. Hoorah!

    I'm All for this Place.

I've gotten my tounge, belly, nose, eyebrow and ear's redid (thanks Aaron). Each percing is usually under 40 bucks, unless you want the flash jewlery.

Andy Moreno did my tattoo on my wrist, I was so estatic on how it came out and I was delighted, He was quick and easy and very friendly, I loved how I was able to unwind and enjoy the work, I loved how he was honest with my choices about ink color. I got a custom tattoo that I designed and it came out just like my vision!

    THANK YOU ANDY

OEY!!!!!! Yes, yes YA'LL. I have 2 beautiful cover ups done by this artist of a man. I originally thought I was a lost cause because my previous tattoos were really dark (basically a big black circle). Oey worked his magic and set my skin FREE. I get nonstop compliments on my work and have invested in many sleeveless and backless tee shirts. No need to worry about being ashamed of your mess ups. This guy can take it all away. Thank you OEY!!!

OEY requires appointments but there are other artists there who can get down on walk ins.
You can't even put a price on ART, especially when its something that will stay with you forever. You pay for what you get. I feel like I still owe him more.

Oey who works here is an amazing artist. He did an amazing cover up job on my husband. He is unpretentious, down to Earth, and friendly unlike most tattoo artists.

I had a decent tattoo done here by some guy who's name I do not remember, but he was your typical tattoo dude. Too cool for school. Talked more to his buddies than me. Barely spoke. Uninterested in what he was doing. Nothing to write home about.

Oey's name and work we will never forget. 5 stars! We tell everyone about him!

I have seen almost everyone in this shop for both departments.  Piercings and tattoos.
And that is why I love this place.  When it comes to tattoos, more permanent things, quality and integrity are important.  I can come in here and see anyone with out hesitation.  I am proud to wear their artwork.
The atmosphere is casual/comfortable.  I always enjoy the music selection (loud punk rawk anyone).  They even have vending machines available for when you are having longer sessions!

Oey is an amazing artist.  Not to mention fast and light handed.

They have also recently remodeled.  (Well done JB.)

I needed a tattoo to help me recover after I left my abusive marriage, having some symptoms of PTSD. I exchange my kids at the Oakland Police Department, and Sacred Tattoos was just across the street. So it was perfect for me, as I only have three hour windows that I can get work done in.

I went in with my art and spoke to Jonny about it. He was really interested in doing such a large piece and was more than willing to work with me around my schedule.

Eight months and seven sittings later, it's nearly finished. The work is fantastic! Jonny is a very talented tattoo artist with a wicked sense of humor -- at one point when he was shading over my spine I was really suffering and he started cracking tasteless jokes to raise my endorphins. I've never laughed like that when I've been in that much pain before.

Sacred Tattoos has some very talented staff, are extremely accommodating, with clean large premises in a convenient downtown Oakland location.

To reserve an appointment, you need to go in person with a $40 deposit. There is a large collection of flash to look at, or take your own artwork for a better experience. The rates are pretty standard, $100 per hour, with a $50 minimum.

Ask for Jonny and tell him that Kerie with the Kali backpiece sent you.

I knew what I wanted and they gave it to me. What could be better?

Well, they gave me even more. Not only did I get exactly the tattoo I wanted, Andy touched up my earlier ink for free.

    Excellent.
