My friend and I decided to get tattoos when I visited her.  We had an appt. and ended up having to wait over three hours missing most of the concert we were going to at The Whisky.  Was not impressed with service, tattoo or price and  they charge an extra fee for using a credit card.
Review Source:If your in the tattoo community, you know the rep Shamrock has. Best of the best. If your not, your going to a historical ground place that offers the highest quality of artwork and superior service. Mark and Freddy, much love, just thought I'd drop you guys a praise in this technology era! Dueces!
Review Source:A friend from out of town wanted to go to get a Tattoo for her birthday, and she had heard about Kat Von D's High Voltage, and wanted to go there.
Needless to say that didn't work out mainly due to the incredibly rude and bad attitude the staff and artists had there (will save it for my review) not to mention how overpriced it was so we decided to go somewhere else.
Yelpers you did not steer us wrong!! from the moment we stepped into Shamrock Social Club we knew we had done the right thing. Max at the front desk was amazing, the manager Wes was super accommodating and Louis our tattoo artist was exceptional!!
So much so, that I loved my friends tattoo so much, this tattoo virgin decided to get inked.
I have to say I was a little annoying with all my questions and anxiety, changing the placement about 4 times (I mean it's forever) Â but Louis had the patience of a saint and never made me feel bad for a second (which I know some artists can) not to mention I barely felt a thing!!
Honestly for some tattoo virgins it can be a very intimidating thing, to walk into a tattoo place, but if you're going to do it please go see Louis Perez III, and for all the tattoo vets he is still your guy. This place rocks and they know how to treat their customers to boot.
Do yourself a favor and check them out!
I have a few tattoos. I've been in a few different tattoo shops. I know what a good tattoo looks like. Shamrock is the spot. If you want good work done, and you want to feel safe knowing you are getting EXACTLY what you ask for, get your tattoo from Louis Perez III. He does some of the better work I've seen and if you want something specific and it involves any lines, he is your guy. His line work is impeccable. The guy knows what he's doing and he's a fun dude to chat with. Have fun, get some ink, and go to shamrock. More specifically, go to LOUIS.
Review Source:His name is Louis Perez III, and he is the best tattoo artist out there!!! I received my first tattoo from Louis and was hooked to him! I haven't gone to anyone else and won't! He's my guy! Nicest person you could ever meet!! Very friendly and genuine. He doesn't bullshit. His art work is ridiculously incredible. He has the lightest hand, none of my tattoos were painful because of that. Now not only is my white skin covered in color but also fine fine detail that I couldn't even imagine anyone being capable of doing. He's amazing!!
This is not a salon or a foot spa.. It's a tattoo shop! If you want to gossip with your girls then go somewhere else!! Not saying they won't talk with you, of course they will but it is a type of work where they need to get the job done, so if they don't talk to you for a while its because they are WORKing!! On YOU!!! To let you have exactly what you want. Appreciate the hard work that goes into the art piece given by an artist.
I haven't meet a single person at Shamrock that was rude. Mark Mahoney runs an amazing shop! I would never go anywhere else. All the artist there are top notch!! They do amazing work and are such great people. If they aren't talking to you 24/7 during your tattoo it may be because they are concentrating on make you a badass tattoo! Don't take it personal! Appreciate the art work.
The receptionists/manager/helpers are also one of the bests. I have nothing bad to say about them because they are the greatest people working there as well. Good flow through the shop comes from them and they do an amazing job.
Tattoos are not cheap! Just because your paying a lot of money doesn't mean your some special person and get special treatment. Everyone is paying a lot of money. It's art work on your body for the rest of your life. You get what you pay for. You want a crappy tattoo. This is not your place. All that will come out of Shamrock is gorgeous, incredible art pieces that people will talk about everyday!
Amazing shop! Amazing artist: not about the gender it's about who has a great hand to make beautiful art.
Louis Perez III is your guy!!
The tattoo itself is quite nice. Loui Perez (I think thats his name because he didnt talk to me) did a nice job. That being said he didn't rock my world. The reason for the 1star is because their customer service was horrendous.
Let me start with the receptionist who is not only rude and short with you but is also condescending. I admit Im not the easiest person to deal with but Im paying a significant amount of money for you to do some permanent ink so at least pretend to care for what I want. The tattoo artist himself gave me attitude and only spoke to me the last 5 minutes. I was incredibly disappointed since it was my first tattoo experience. But the indifferent attitude only made me take the pain with stride. Despite being my first tattoo on my wrist I did not fidget or cry. Guess it wouldve been different if I wouldve been a men and the fact that they dont have female tattoo artist shouldve been the red flag.
Disappointed with customer service
Dont talk to the receptionist or else youre more likely to walk away
I kinda hate giving 5-star reviews because I feel like they lose value if you have too many - but honestly, Â I can't knock stars off this place for anything.
First off, Shamrock and Mark Mahoney are legendary. When you walk into this shop, you're strolling through Hollywood history - this is Sunset Strip, rock&roll, hair metal, harleys, punk rock and rockabilly. It's worth just poking your head in to soak it in. The people in the shop are welcoming, there's a pool table in the middle of the room - it's called a social club for a reason!
As for the tattooing? Top-notch. If you can schedule/afford Mark, why not?! He's an American ink master - it's like being tattooed by a famous painter. I don't have a Mahoney piece yet, but I will at some point - oh yes, I will...
My guy is Andrew 'The Kid' Farnsely - humble, accommodating, personable and crazy talented. I mean that - he's amazing. I brought in a design I thought was pretty great, but he took it to another level. Also, he's got a feather-light touch, so expect minimal pain and recovery. He's also fast and his work is clean! In a word - he's awesome. I expect it will be hard to book with him soon as people will start booking him out, so I'm going back for more work ASAP.
Remember: Good tattoos aren't cheap. Cheap tattoos are cheap. This is going to be on your body for the rest of your life ;)
It always amazes me when people complain about the cost of tattoos. If you can't afford to get it done right, you're probably not in the right financial situation to be getting a tattoo. If you wanna trust the homey in his garage with his homemade gun, by all means enjoy your shitty tattoo and your Hepatitis C. If you wanna go to that shady ass tattoo shop in the hood, by all means enjoy your crooked lines and portraits that look like muthafuckin Picassos.
Seriously. It's going to be on your body for the rest of your life. Stop for a minute and think about that. It's going to be on your body FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE. You know, like, forever. Always. Remember that when you're trying to penny pinch and complain about prices. This is not the time or the place to cheap out.
This is Shamrock Social Club!
Correction, this is the WORLD FAMOUS Shamrock Social Club!
Every person who works here takes their job and their art VERY seriously. Here you will meet the true meaning of a tattoo artist. Every one of the guys working here I would trust with my skin.
I've been getting work done at Shamrock for the last 9-10 years and it's the only place I'll ever go.
I've been fortunate enough to get tattooed by Mark Mahoney. The man is a legend and his skill with single needle black and grey is unmatched. Getting a Mark Mahoney tattoo is like walking around with the muhfuggin Mona Lisa on your skin. A literal work of art that you own and carry around with you. Amazing! Mark not only tattoos celebrities, he is one!
Furthermore, Mark has to be the sharpest dressed man in Hollywood! When I grow up I wanna be as cool as Mark! Pointy shoes and all!
I've been tattooed by Danny Romo. His portrait work and black and grey are also flawless. Danny has been in the business for a long time and definitely knows his way around a tattoo.
I've been tattooed by East. East has got to be one of the most talented color tattoo artists in the industry, and he's got the awards to prove it. His color work is impeccable and the way he approaches a tattoo is like a science. He will analyze the flow and placement on your body like it's feng shue. And not just because he's Asian!
This place has nothing but good reviews and it's for a good reason. Because you come here to get quality work, by quality artists at a world famous location. The only two negative reviews are from DJ B. and K K. You're obviously both the same person, and I think it's pretty ridiculous that you would complain about the use of profanity in a tattoo shop. It's a tattoo shop not a sewing circle. Seriously. If your ears get easily offended, and the use of foul language bothers you, you probably have no business getting a tattoo.
Instead, save your money and put it towards your much needed surgery. It's obvious the stick is too far up your ass to be removed by hand. You'll be needing a doctor's help for this one... Maybe you can find one on Yelp!
Wu did my tattoo. I had a recent tattoo that didn't blend with an old one and came in with some ideas on how to fix it. He was great, told me what he could and couldn't do, got opinions from other guys in the shop, and was really concerned about making sure I didn't go overboard and end up with something I didn't want. He was quick, relatively painless, and his work is beautiful, not to mention the prices are reasonable. I got to see the work of some of the other guys there and it seems like you can't go wrong going there. I've been saying this is my last tattoo, but if I change my mind, I know where I'm going.
Review Source:I got my first tattoo ever last night and I will never go anywhere but Shamrock. Mark is a legend and has tattooed my favorite celebrities, so even though I couldn't get worked on by him I knew this had to be the place to go.
I walked in and was immediately given a tattoo artist. Wu was my guy and absolutely incredible. My tattoo is on my stomach and I was very nervous so it was hard for me not to move. He helped me relax and even leaned on my stomach so I wouldn't move. I barely felt a thing and Wu made sure it was perfect before I left.
I wanted to meet Mark so Wu actually called him out and he introduced himself to me and we chatted for a few minutes. It was truly an honor to meet him.
If I ever get another tattoo I'm going back to Shamrock and Wu is going to be my guy.
I got my first tattoo yesterday from Louie. Â Not only did I get an awesome tattoo, exactly how I planned it to look for the past year, but I had a great, calm experience. Â Going in, I was terrified - but Louie talked me through the whole process, step by step, and made me feel so comfortable with the whole tattoo experience. Â Such a nice guy, and a very talented tattoo artist! Â Thanks Louie!
Review Source:i'll echo what the below review from Robin said. and add that Dougie Mitz did the color work on a leg sleeve tat for me. this guy is great. i found everyone that works at Shamrock to be very inviting and friendly. there was no attitude. Â because this shop is on the sunset strip, about a block from the beverly hills border, it attracts a lot of tourists and "first-timers": kids that seem to be more into The Kardashians than into tattoos. but i enjoyed seeing and hearing these people come in and out. it gave me something to focus on during the 3 sessions that i had there. Â i recommend very few tattoo parlours, and this one holds my highest recommendation.
Review Source:I love Shamrock. I've been to Louie Perez twice and I will ONLY go to Louie for my tattoos. Besides being super nice, he does the most beautiful delicate lines. He is PRECISE. He takes his time no matter how involved the tattoo. My last tattoo was smaller and I told him, "It won't take you long at all" and he replied, "No, it won't take me long but I'm also not going to rush it."
I have several tattoos- only two of them are from Shamrock and those two are the best ones I have. They make the rest of my tattoos look like a 10 year old child did them. It DOES matter where you get your tattoos. Does it matters where you get your hair cut? Imagine if you had to have that haircut forever.
My friend Esthero introduced me to this place - the talent amassed here is incredible. Got my last ink here a few weeks back from Woo. I wanted a walking Buddha, brought a picture of a statue I knew of near Bangkok. Woo inked it greyscale and I swear I can see it move.
They're that good here - no 'hipper-than-thou' attitude, just a bunch of artists who love their art and it shows.
andrew tattooed me 3 days after i lost my daughter to neuroblastoma cancer. (<a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fawishforava.com&s=354e056f203f9649df64bd9df1cc6d70636a78360cebd02c7597dc9424dd83a7" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://awishforava.com</a>) he patiently sat down and listened to me talk, cry, be upset, etc...and remained really professional and calm as he did my ink. Â he asked if i needed water, a break, always being courteous throughout. Â in the end, i was so extremely happy with my new piece, and will always return to the shamrock. Â they are a legendary tattoo studio and treat you as family.
the artwork he inked me was by mark ryden, Â who is a famous surreal artist. Â i showed mr ryden a few months later who was astonished stating that the tattoo artist was incredible and it looked like a graphite drawing on my arm.
when andrew finished my ink, he showed me his own ink on the back of his neck. it was the name of his girlfriend, Â ava. Â which was also the name of my daughter who passed away. Â i felt an immediate connection and was glad he waited till we were done to show me. Â i think we were both speechless.
shamrock social club is pure class
I dont know I liked this place. I stopped by on my way home from work one night and parked along sunset. I didn't put enough money in the meter I wasn't planning on staying too long. The place is really cool, the pool table, the Tron arcade, the people. It feels cool just being there. So I threw out what I wanted. Old boy gave me a price, it was up there, but he said "you get what you pay for." So I decided to do it. Luie did actually he's sick!! In the middle of the tatt I had to get up and put more money in the meter, but whatever. I got to meet Mark (coolest guy) he said he liked my tattoos. When I was paying there wasn't a tip option on the reciept. All I had was a Visa and I wanted to tip Luie. They told me I would have to walk to the bank and get cash. I would have but I was super tired from work and really hungry at this point and my arm was throbbing with pain. I figured I will be back to see Luie ASAP anyways he'll remember me and I'll give him his tip and then some then.
Review Source:Andrew of the Shamrock Social Club gave me my first tattoo. Â The circumstances surrounding the tattoo were deeply painful and emotional, but the tattoo serves as a visual reminder for years of love and memories. Â Andrew took his time in helping me find the perfect font type and size and his steady hand was very reassuring. Â My experience was truly great- I feel like it was meant to be. Â I didn't have an appointment and certainty didn't mind waiting for 30 minutes. Â My tattoo was done so well and never became infected. Â I have had it for nearly 8 months now and it is healing beautifully. Â Thank you, Shamrock! Â Andrew is a true professional and gentleman.
Review Source:I didn't get tattooed by Mark, maybe one day, but it was great to be on such hallowed ground and, for me, that was really the point.
The staff that was working the night I got inked were very friendly and helpful, considering how busy they were that is something remarkable.
I pulled a design off the wall then Wade, my artist, did a great job making it unique and personal.
A simple Skull and Cross Bones on my wrist with the words: "Pog Mo Thoin" (if you don't know look it up - just don't say it to Mark unless you want to be shown the door) over it in a cool traditional tattoo font.
From what I could tell it was street parking only and on a popular section of Sunset Blvd. I lucked out and got a spot right out front on a Saturday night. They are pricey but considering the location and the legendary owner it could've been worse and they'd still have been crowded.
The reason for four instead of five stars is two fold, I want my reviews to mean something. Shamrock Social Club is a special place, for sure, but it's not as though Angels descended upon me and gave me a hand job.
I reserve 5 stars for a business that couldn't possibly improve even if they wanted to because they're THAT good already.
And Mark Mahoney's is a little pricey.
I just got my first tattoo here from Dr. Woo and he was amazing. A friend of mine recommended this shop because of the quality of the artists so I looked at the pictures on the website and decided to come check it out. I looked at the artists' portfolios and Dr. Woo's had some A-mazing script and he happened to be in the shop at the time. We made an appointment and I paid the $20 deposit. I came in today and got a beautiful script tattoo ! Dr. Woo was very gentle, meticulous, and patient with me. I got it on the ribs which is supposedly a very painful spot...not for me. Sure, it burned a little but it wasn't bad at all. I highly recommend Dr. Woo if you're looking for fine lines and details, he does some beautiful work! The price was pretty steep but I'm willing to pay for the quality of the artist's work. He also said that I can come in to get anything touched up once it has healed, free of charge. Everyone there was very laid back, I didn't encounter any big egos. I didn't like that people were smoking indoors but that's my only gripe.
Review Source:I never write Yelp reviews. But I just have to.
This review is not really directed towards my artist or my tattoo. Â Andrew did my tattoo today and I am fairly satisfied. Â I would say he is a very skilled artist if you are looking for something very neat and precise. Â I think he is better with picture images more so than text. Â He tried sketching out a quote in a handwritten font that I had brought in at least 4x, which I appreciate, but honestly, it didn't really look anything like what I had brought in. Â I decided to get an image graphic tattoo instead and asked for kanji brush strokes. Â Had a very good picture of what I wanted, but again, the tattoo turned out too precise and perfect for my liking. Â Its growing on me and I can see the little brush stroke efforts he made, but it is definitely not as artsy as I wanted it to look. Â Its OK though, Andrew didn't piss me off, he tried his best and was fairly patient with me.
EAST on the other hand... is the biggest douche bag and most unprofessional idiot I have ever met in my entire life. Â I had originally scheduled an appointment with him for tomorrow. Â I texted him earlier this afternoon asking if we could push out the appointment. Â He never replied. Â I went in for my appointment with Andrew, was dissatisfied with the text sketch ups so ended up getting the tat I was gonna get with East with Andrew instead. Â Turns out, East was there and got SO FREAKING pissed off. Â He was in the middle of tattooing another client and started YELLING at me, pen/needle whatever its called in hand. Â Told me he cancelled his Vegas trip because of my tattoo. Â Um sorry, but I was getting a small tattoo on my wrist about the size of ONE INCH, which most tattoo artists think are insignificant, minor things. Â You really cancelled your Vegas trip because of ME? Â I'm not getting a f*cking sleeve... I acknowledged to him very politely that I could have handled the situation differently and should've cancelled earlier/in advance, but reminded him that he failed to reply to my text. Â He had the nerve to say "Do you even KNOW where you are getting tattooed at? Â Don't ever come back here ever again." Â You WORK there, you do not OWN the place, wowww you really are gonna tell me to never come back when I just paid two bills and tipped a generous tip?
1. Ever heard of a cancellation policy? Â If you are so intent on having a "professional" environment and expect to receive cancellation notices 24-48 hours in advance, you should alert the client of your policy. Â Also, if you expect ME to be responsible, YOU should be responsible too and reply to my text of me asking to push out the appointment! Â
2. I can't believe you are YELLING at me WHILE tattooing another client. Â I would not want my tattoo artist touching me while he's so heated. Â He was seriously like blue in the face.
3. After I apologized (politely and calmly) at least three times, he continued to yell at me for a good ten minutes, to the point where my girlfriend had to step in and be like "She said she was sorry, we are sorry for inconveniencing you, but what more do you expect us to say? Â We already apologized and what's done is done, what is there left to discuss?" Â And of course he was like "its none of your f*cking business, I get she's your homegirl and all, but this has nothing to do with you!"
4. He kept insisting that he's not mad because of the money - it has nothing to do with the money - it has everything to do with the principle. Â Umm... right... BULLSH*T. Â I tipped Andrew pretty well and he totally brightened up when I handed him the cash. Â I know its because of the money.
Wow... talk about uneducated and unprofessional. Â He got so heated with ME, when I never raised my voice once and am a small petite female owning up to the fact that I could've handled it differently and apologized for inconveniencing him. Â Imagine how he gets with other things in life. Â Never seen such awful customer service in my entire life. Â If Yelp would approve me cussing on the regular, I would be writing way dirtier and way more vulgar things right now. Â OH and to top it off, I remember when I was originally trying to get an appointment with Andrew in the first place, they told me to call in THE DAY OF to see if anyone cancels! Â This is proof that they don't even have a cancellation policy to begin with!!!
PS. Â The front desk guy is also a COMPLETE douche bag. Â SO RUDE and treated me like DIRT the whole time I was there.
Everyone who works here is cocky and has a huge ego. Â Even though Andrew is precise and a pretty good artist (I wouldn't say amazing because he couldn't capture the energy and effect of what I wanted TWO times although the tattoo itself didn't turn out bad, thank god) I am NEVER going back here. Â EVER. Â And will never recommend this place to anyone!
I got some ink done by Louie (or Louis) here. It was my 3rd (size was middle of the 3) tattoo and not overly complicated.
I decided to give this review three stars instead of one because I don't think the work he did on me is representative of Mark or Shamrock Social itself. I should have stopped him after it became apparent that he was rushing it and obviously wasn't into the work as he seemed to be before beginning. On top of this the lines are not clean and his advice on placement turned out wrong (bad enough I get comments about it). There are even random dots outside the lines. Seriously, WTF?
I don't doubt that Louis is a great tattoo artist given his other work he just should have told me he wasn't into mine rather than doing the poor, rushed job he that he did.
Danny Romo just did my first tattoo for me and another for a friend.. It's small but very cool. Danny was patient and very cool and friendly. Didn't make me feel bad or like I was wasting his time for getting a small tattoo.
Highly, highly recommend this place. Not your typical Sunset Blvd. tourist shop, but a serious tattoo shop. Open very late during the week.
Highly suggest making an appointment, otherwise you have to wait hours.
I got my first tattoo a few weeks ago by Andrew "The Kid" at Shamrock  and it was a great experience. The owner is really cool and didn't make me feel lame for not knowing anything about tattoo culture. I came in with nothing but a bracelet with a sanskrit mantra on it that I wanted tattooed on my upper back. Andrew, ever so patiently, drew and re-drew the design until I was happy with it. My tattoo was finished in 45 minutes and didn't hurt at all. Andrew made me feel very comfortable and was a good listener. I definitely recommend this place.
Review Source:Ive had 4 different sit downs at various places, and Ill never go another place again. After seeing some of the work Andrew had done on others, I went to him for some of my own and was thrilled. I brought in a drawing (that took me roughly 4 hours), showed him, he went in back for 20 minutes and came back out with a better version. 5 1/2 hours of work rang up $350 +$20 for tip, but your paying for the skill level. That said, if your just going in for some bullshit tattoo that a kindergardener could do, then maybe a less expensive shop is good enough. Andrews strong suit is definitely in detailed thin lines and shading black and white. Takes about 2 weeks for an appointment.
Just for piece of mind, pay the extra bit and go to this shop. Its a tattoo you cheap bastards, your going to have to look at it the rest of your life.
Best part!! He had a dude run across the street and snag me up a six pack while I had the work done.
Some tattoo places can be pretty douchy-- This was not one of them.
I live about a block away from this place- as I was walking home alone the night of my 24th birthday, I decided that I would get a small piece done.
It was nice, fast. Done by Woo-- I didn't flinch that much. He was very nice- Â They were all really nice in there.
Also- Bring cash, there is a Citibank and a Bank of America across the street-- Try not to get hit crossing Sunset Blvd. They accept credit, but they charge 10% of the price of the piece. Also- Don't be a dick- Remember to tip.
As pricing goes, they don't charge any more than any other place would. This was my 7th tattoo, and I used to go to places depending on price, and I would end up with a crap tattoo.
If price is a huge issue, you probably shouldn't be getting a tattoo... Pay your rent first.
This review is a long time coming. Â Freddy did my tat in 2006 - he is a true artist! Â Five years later I love it even more. Â Not to mention, all the folks in the shop were friendly and laid back. Â I'm getting another one soon and wouldn't go anywhere else or to anyone but Freddy! Â Rock on Shamrock!!
Review Source:So I came here about 2 years ago and got my tattoo done by East. Â Let me just say, he is AMAZING. Â I sat through roughly about a 6.5 hour session with East and it was by far, the best piece that I have so far. Â His artwork and attention to detail on the tattoo was amazing. Â He really does work with the form of your body to make sure the placement of the tattoo fits like it was supposed to be there. Â He is also very quick and gets his work done fast. Â (Don't worry, we got to take a few smoke breaks in between the whole session as well)
I haven't gotten any other tatts done at this shop, but I would definitely go back. Â Everyone who works there seemed to be busy and creating great sketches. Â Plus, Mark Mahoney works there, and it was cool to get to meet him as well! Â He also does great work, but I hear it's really hard to get an appointment with him.
I would definitely recommend this place. Â It's super chill and all the guys are really cool that work there. Â Request for East! Â He does great work! Â But be prepared to wait... he tends to be super busy. Â But amazing work is worth the wait!
talk about a good night on sunset. took my girl to get a tattoo, we visited two other tattoo shops both had only 1 artist working(it was on a monday night) and all were booked for the night. i yelp'd and found SSC i called ahead just to make sure there was someone available to tattoo, they said no problem, we headed on down. there were so many people in there getting worked on and waiting you would think it was the weekend, they had more than enough staff to cover, it was clean and good atmosphere all around, my girl got 2 birds on her chest from the moment we walked in to the minute we walked out it took about 2 1/2 hrs. Danny our artist did a excellent job very clean sharp lines and it is healing fast and very nice. i will be going myself next month to get work done on me.
Review Source:Got my first Tattoo in March on the Day of my birthday and boy am I happy that I went to Shamrock! It was a total accident that I fell upon this place based on a tattoo that my friend had on her wrist. I called Danny the artist 2 weeks prior to my birthday and made my appointment. At first I was a little intimidated because I was a tattoo virgin! The staff were awesome and friendly and really turned my anxiety into pure excitement! Danny is a true artist...The script, font and size of my tattoo is PERFECT and crystal clear! He didn't go overboard or try to "show off" in anyway shape or form...the work speaks for itself...I could never have hoped for anything better!
It was pricier than I had anticipated, but why cut corners when purchasing something that will be on your body for life....I will be going to Shamrock Social Club in the future if I decide to get inked again.
Been twice - really nice group of guys. Â
By luck I met the artist Dougie Mitts. Â You won't find any better. Â I've been getting tattooed for 30 years - Dougie by far is the most pleasant artist. Â He does his work, takes reasonable breaks, and makes sure you're not fucking around on your phone.
I had my artwork, he drew it up, put his own spin on it, and did the work. Â Not an unreasonable price either. Â I'll go back, definitely.
My girlfriend and I both got tattooed by Wade, we had an amazing experience. Â Not only are our tattoos perfect (her's was a fix of an awful tattoo, mine was my first tattoo ever) but the attitude and atmosphere there is comfortable and relaxed. Â Amazing experience for me, since it was my first, honestly we wont be getting tattooed anywhere else but Shamrock, and by Wade. Â Perfect!
Review Source:Isaiah was my artist.. Actually saw his dad and him in an article and made a call for an appointment. (mind you this review is long over due, visited Shamrock about 2 1/2 years ago -wanted to spread the word)
I won't lie it was very random and outta the blue that I went to an artist and shop I had no knowledge of. I threw caution to the wind. Thought if they had written acknowledgements and were located on Sunset you couldn't really go wrong..
I was getting a prior tat covered up. He did a great job and was really cool. I didn't feel uncomfortable at all. He listened to what I wanted and checked with me before just doing what he thought would look good. Â Actually the free-handed the piece and I am super happy with it. Went back a few times for touch ups because I'm a perfectionist like that. Still want some more ink by Isaiah but unsure what ink I'm looking for?
The entire shop was super rad and everyone was really friendly. Played pool while waiting to sit down and get poked. Reasonable prices and comfy environment. I still want some stuff done by Mark Mahoney but I'm not ready yet he's a little harder to get an appointment with. I would recommend this place tenfold.
Ah... artists.  I got my first tattoo there yesterday.  I love it!  Isaiah, my tattoo artist, has great attention to detail, is expert with fine lines, and spent the time needed to get it done right  (the tattoo is an intricate armband, very detailed, thin, fine lines, musical notes, etc.) Â
The first thing you'll notice when walking in is that this is a collective of artists, first and foremost. Â Well, actually that would be the second thing you notice. Â The first thing you'll notice is the hazy blue air from their cigarettes (yes, they smoke like chimneys indoors. Ah, artists...). Â They show each other their work and show genuine interest in each other's work. Â They are artists, and that, when you're getting a tattoo, is a very good thing.
Oh, but wait, did I say Isaiah has great attention to detail? Let me qualify that: Â he has great attention to detail when tattooing. Â He is really very talented. Â But his attention to detail when not tattooing, that could use a little touch up. Â I showed up at 4 for my appointment--right on time--to get the tattoo in honor of the adoption of my baby boy. Â I had made the appointment about a month earlier. Â No sign of Isaiah. Â They called him for me. Â He was oblivious to the appointment. Â "He'll be right here." Â No worries. I came prepared. Â I sat and read my book.
35 minutes later I went and sat at the desk to make my presence more obvious. Â "He'll be here right away," I'm assured. Â Isaiah arrived an hour and twenty minutes late. Â Well, you know... artists.
He got to work right away. Â It took three hours and forty minutes to finish it. Â He complained some. Â It was intricate; he worked for his money. Â But I didn't want to hear him complaining that "he'll never do a tattoo like this again." Â I don't think he meant it. Â But it started to make me feel like I was a bit of an inconvenience. Â In fact, I was a paying customer. Â
When the tattoo was finished Isaiah took me around the social club, showing off my new ink. Â Right on. Â Everyone was impressed with his work, including some of the more established, well known, tattoo artists. Â That was cool. Â Very cool.
So, what would bump this from 4 to 5 stars in my book? Â If they could keep the artistic heart and soul of the place but beef up the business aspects of it, that would do it. Â Scheduling mix ups happen, I know, but a late artist who gripes about how hard the tattoo was to ink--all while the thick, carcinogenic air burdened my lungs.... Well, you get the idea.
Having said all that, I recommend them without reservation. Â I would much rather my tattoo place be more artist than business, any day. Â But you should know what might be waiting for you if you go there.
Shamrock is a safe bet if you are a tattoo virgin, and cautious about who is going to permanently ink your skin. Of course, it is also the place to go if tattoos are your thing as the Shamrock status is pretty iconic.
I was initiating my little sister into getting her first tattoo (they grow up *so* fast!); we both wanted to get small stars. This was the only place that my sister would get it done, as she had heard that this is where Angelina Jolie gets marked, and if it is good enough for Angie Jo, then it is good enough for us English Roses.
The guys couldn't have been more friendly. They were laid back, which helped eased my sisters anxiety. Â There was a little bit of a party atmosphere in the place; people seemed to be hanging out and playing pool who weren't even getting inked. Most importantly, all the equipment was clean, and they tattooists wore gloves at all times. Safety is paramount here. My small star came to $80. Not cheap, really, does anyone wanted to be cutting costs when they are branding their skin?Good work, guys.
It was either this joint or True Tattoo for my ink. Â I like the atmosphere of the place and the way the shop was laid out. Â The artists here are without a doubt top notch. Â However, they weren't as friendly and philanthropic as the fellas over at True Tattoo, which is obviously why they sold me. Â Their art is great, they're a tad expensive however so really get to take a look at the artist's portfolio and have a thorough conversation with them before checking this joint out. Â Everyone's art is great but there's something intimate about getting inked that you need to be comfortable and sure about. Â I didn't really get that feeling of sentiment and intimacy from this establishment. Â However, the hours of this place are great. Â Its opens from mid-afternoon till late night. Â I'm not quite sure if that's good or bad in terms of a tattooist's natural biorhythms but i thought it was cool.
Review Source:Tattoos are my thing. Just look at my arms, legs, back, belly and wrists and you'll know. So when I was moved by whatever tattoo spirit was floating around the other day, I was ready to strike. I should point out that I'm not the most spontaneous girl in the world, so to just walk in a shop I hadn't painstakenly researched was a big deal. I emailed a friend of mine who is the editor for Inked Magazine and he said without hesitation that this was the place to go. So go I did.
Shorty was also my artist (he inked Aunny D immediately after me - it was a bonding experience) and it was his first day in the shop, so I felt honored to have work done by him. And as Aunny already said, they're all about cleanliness and professionalism. And damn - that dude works fast! Sure, I just got an "XO" on my left wrist, but it only took about 8 minutes and looked great.
I'd come back if I didn't live all the way across the country, not just for the work but also for the cool guys who work and hang at the shop. I feel really lucky that things worked out there like they did.
I got another tattoo on Monday. It was a spur-of-the-moment, 'Oh hell, why not' kind of tattoo. Now don't get me wrong, it is something I have been wanting to get for quite some time now, and very well thought out, nothing I was going to regret in the morning. I didn't just roll up into Shamrock and say 'I'd like that dolphin jumping through a hoop tatted on my chest' (no offense to anyone with that tatt). So I decided that Shamrock was the place to go because it came highly recommended by a friend who is an editor over at Inked magazine. So I strolled into Shamrock, a shop I have been wanting to go to for quite some time now, and spoke to Alex AKA Shorty Loco. Hellllllll yes. I'm being tatted by someone names Shorty Loco, and I LIKE it!
I shot the shit for a while with some of the artists, they print up the design from my computer and viola, a half hour later I'm sitting in the chair, putting myself through this mess once again. The artists at Shamrock are nothing if not professional, they have a pool table and Pop (of Inked fame) works there sometimes, and is a riot. He sat and talked to me as I got my work done, and told me stories of his time as a tattoo artist.
On the cleanliness level, this place doesn't eff around. They prepare the chair, and let you watch. Clean, clean, clean is like music to my ears. Post tatt they clean once again, patch you up, and send you on your merry way. I have to go back for some touch up, and I can't wait til my next trip.
Shamrock, you rock.
Head to Shamrock if you want to check out a real shop with amazing artists including, of course, the incomparable Mark Mahoney. That man has more style in his pinky finger than you and I combined.
Come with the notion that you'll want to hang awhile, shoot some pool and get to know the boys. Small Paul, Freddy Negrete and even the original man with a plan, Mr. Rick Walters will serve you up an amazing (and permanent) experience - so choose your designs wisely!!
I've been here 3 times.
have i gotten a tattoo from here? no.
why? i don't think i can deal with the pain again.
do i want to? YES!
i must say.. they are super chill.. super busy.. and super hot!
The guys in the back must be good because they are always working. sorry i don't know them by name but i do know Mark Mahoney. he is seriously like a god here.
he was there the last time i was waiting for someone else to get a masterpiece put on them.. and well he looks like a sharp man but with some major talent.
but note this is a SOCIAL CLUB.. not just a tattoo parlor.. but you gotta know.. how to fit in.. and i wish i could fit in more.. i probably need a good session to really be included but.. just experiencing it as an outsider was good enough for me.
so let me tell you guys about East.
He will truly do a piece for you.
he has a great eye for body curves and his art just flows like it belongs on your body.
he mostly does asian inspired pieces and he is booked months at a time.
he sits out front so I don't know how temporary he is there but.. if you get a chance for him to do work on you.. trust him with your life.. he will truly leave a piece on your body as if it belongs there.
What can I say Mark Mahoney is the Man...Everyone knows that. Â I have watched Mahoney tattoo all my friends and honored to have been tattooed by a legend. Â Mahoney your work is art! Â You are an angel. Â I got a my first tattoo about 2 years ago. Â A dedication to my aunt who recently passed from cancer. Â Mahoney made the experience so memorable and special. Â I think I actually gained closure and was brought closer to my aunt through the experience. Â Mahoney is the sweetest, nicest person I have ever met. Â The best place to get a tattoo. Â The best artist around. Â The experience is always a pleasure! Â Can't wait for my next one...
