I received my first work here back in 07 and more recently this past April of 2013. Â I am pleased again of the level of commitment and passion everyone I've spoke to that has been in the building. Â This place is the oldest tattoo spot on Maui so you know that's gotta mean something. Â I can't wait til I come back to Maui so I can get more work done.
Review Source:Tony Mucci is an amazing tattoo artist. I brought him a specific idea of a sea turtle, and he completely nailed it. It's absolutely perfect. I will fly to Maui just to have him do future work on me. Â If you're looking for incredible detail and an extremely well done tattoo....go to Tony!!! The shop is clean, the staff is friendly, pricing was more than fair for the quality. Â There is no way you will be disappointed. Â I am overly picky, and I am completely satisfied on every possible level! Go to skin deep tattoos!!!
Review Source:I came here for my first tattoo with my brother in law who wanted to get his shoulder done, and I was a bit nervous. Â I'd heard great things from family, and friends who live on the island about the shop, but I didn't want to make a snap decision just because I was in Maui. Â I had always been wanting a tattoo in memory of my brother, who died before I was born. Â I went in and talked to Alex, and immediately got a good vibe from him and the whole shop. Â He drew up a rough sketch of what I had been thinking about, and we booked my appointment right then. Â
This morning I came in, he showed me my stencil and Alex got to work. Â He was super relaxed, which made me more relaxed. Â He visited with my dad and he worked, and I'm extremely happy with the end result. Â It's not a super "arty" tattoo, but it turned out about ten times better than I had expected. Â I definitely recommend this place and Alex to anyone looking. Â Hopefully I'll be able to make it back and get another tattoo here in the future.
Tony Mucci, owner and artist at Skin Deep in Lahaina, is a class act and true professional.
My dad has wanted a tattoo for years and finally decided to commit as a way to celebrate his 69th birthday and longtime love of the Hawaiian islands. He was nervous and trepidatious but Tony at Skin Deep put him right at ease. Can you get a cheaper tattoo? Of course - this is Maui. Everything is expensive. But the experience was great, the tattoo is clean and sharp, and Tony's bedside manner was tops for an anxious ink virgin. Fantastic first tattoo experience for my dad; I'm proud of him and of Skin Deep for doing it up right.
Many mahalos. I expect we'll be back!
Was thinking of getting a tattoo to remember my 40th birthday and first trip to Maui. Walked into Skin Deep Tattoo and spoke with Alex. Got a good vibe, talked about my idea of a tat and Alex came up with the perfect design. Set up an appointment the day before we left Maui. My tat turned out better than I expected. Place was clean. Wife felt good about the place also. Awesome experience!
Review Source:Get "marked" by Marco!! He is very talented and patient. Â It was my first tattoo, so I was nervous; Marco made absolutely sure I was okay before, during and after the session. Â He helped me find exactly what I was looking for and in less than an hour I had a perfect souvenir from the best trip to Maui. Â He took my ideas and sketched an elegant Polynesian design with waves and a plumeria that is quite unique and beautiful. Â I would recommend Skin Deep to others looking for a great tattoo experience! Thanks, Marco!
Review Source:Decided to get a tat on the last day of my trip, not sure what I wanted it to look like exactly but I had an idea. Â I went to Skin Deep based on a painted local's suggestion and walked in with no appointment. Â Marco created something for me and I couldn't be more pleased. Â He spent an a lot of time with me tweaking the design and making changes. Â I will definately stop in again when I make it back to Maui.
Review Source:This tattoo shop rips of visitors, because they think they can. Â They tried to charge me $180-$250 for a small, numeral tattoo, that only took 35mins at another shop and cost $80. Â They think that they can charge whatever because we are tourist. Â i do NOT recommend this shop to anyone. there is another shop around the corner called atomic tattoo, go there for sure. Â much better artist, service and prices.
Review Source:4 years ago, it was me & my BF's first trip to Maui. We loved it so much we wanted to get a permanent souvenir to commemorate the trip, and what's more permanent than a tattoo? I can't be sure, but I think it was Keavan who did our tats. I got two fish on my ankle, the BF got a island style sea turtle on his arm.
Typically, I wouldn't just walk into a place and get a tattoo from an artist who didn't come recommended, but I was on an island paradise high so I acted against my better judgment! Luckily, though, four years later we're still happy about our tattoos. The artist did a good job and although he didn't freehand the designs (a peeve of mine), they turned out well.
Since they're on Maui, on Front Street in Lahaina, expect to pay out the wazoo for what you're getting, even if it's small. But it is a great way to remember your trip by.
They're very professional, the artist did the job clean and used sterile technique when working on us.
You do have to commit to an appointment and put up a deposit, so don't be flakey about it or just don't do it if you can't commit. They are pretty busy and established, so if you have your heart set on getting ink, make the appointment early, perhaps even before you arrive on the island for extra assurance. And make sure to do all of your water activities BEFORE getting a tat. You don't want to risk fading that fresh ink now..do you?
