Once again a great experience. I got my first tattoo from Studio about two years from Dana (who no longer works there) and my second one about a month ago from Nero. Â Two different styles of tattoos and both turned out better than expected. The shop is super clean and the pricing is more than reasonable. Plus they back up their work. Nero is the man and has been super helpful with my touch ups. This is place is legit. Â Oh yeah is a pirate themed shop. Pretty awesome.
Review Source:I got my nose pierced here about a year ago. After it healed I was cheap and wore a stud from Claire's. Of course, I got an infection when allergy season came along. When I took the ring out the piercing closed instantaneously. So I went back here for help and they still remembered me. They have a great selection of stainless steel jewelry and threaded a stud back in comp with my purchase. Definitely going back if I ever need jewelry or want another piercing.
Review Source:I was referred to Nero by a good friend, and I can definitely say that she did not steer me wrong. Nero did an amazing job! I love my tattoo and so does everyone who has seen it. Nero and all the other artists and Studio City Tattoo are very friendly and professional. The place is clean and they do quality work. I recommend you make an appointment. You won't be disappointed.

Mike doesn't need another goddamn review, but I'm giving him one anyway. My friend Tom referred me after meditating on which one of the many artists who'd worked on him could do the design I wanted (which was pretty detailed and intricate) the most accurately. Mike was the one, so I went in to see him.
This was my first tattoo, and I'd been designing a variant on a cipher for years now. I'm not an artist, and the cipher design I did was VERY intricate. I turned it into a cipher disk form, but my primary concern was that it not look like a fucking sunflower. Mike did an amazing job adding a geometric design to it that made it look very aesthetic and, most importantly, not at all like a sunflower. Instead, he made it MORE intricate and didn't shy away from the level of detail and precisions that would be needed to not bone it and make it look amazing.
He did the design on me and one of my very close friends. By the time he did it on my friend, he'd done the half-design three times and was getting pretty quick with it. It hurt, I got over it. The end result was something I was very happy with, and get compliments on daily. I spent literally an hour last night fascinating drunks with the story of and demonstration of my functional cipher tattoo.
I actually need to follow up with him to get a few of the tiny intricate parts touched up, which he offered to do for free and I keep forgetting to do because it honestly looks fucking amazing anyway. I highly recommend Mike as an artist, in a short meeting he managed to see where I was going with my vague list of what I didn't want it to look like and produce a design that was completely in line with what I did want but didn't know how to design myself. I had an awesome experience and would definitely go back for more work from him.
I'd post my design but it would reveal my super secret cipher key and then I'd have to kill you. Rest assured, it's awesome.
Looking back, just not amazing enough to go back. Â Got the tattoo I wanted, but sometimes it's hard to communicate what you want and it can be intimidating when you go to an artist who you don't normally go to. Â Wish I could change it a little, but he did great on what he did. Â They have a great shop and I've seen them do other tattoos and I loved it.
Review Source:I was referred to @WilliamDoolittle by a friend who's gotten amazing pieces done by him. I checked him out on Instagram and instantly fell in love with his work. I was definitely impressed and didn't hesitate to email him. He was super helpful, had me set up an orientation appointment, which was the same day that I called the shop, and we set up my appointment.
From orientation to the time of my appointment he let me bombard him with emails describing more details of my tattoo and pictures of things I liked. The lettering done on my tattoo is actually my grandmother's handwriting that I took out of a cook book she wrote for me. I circled all individual letters and he pieced it all together to spell out "The Heart Remembers" and it came out beautifully.
On the day of he had an amazing sketch of my tattoo, it was perfect from the size to the design. I love it! I got a dream catcher and the detail that was put into the webbing was phenomenol. I couldn't be happier with how it turned out.
The shop is great, everyone that worked there was fun, they were able to joke with me and my friends who came.
It didn't even feel like I was getting a tattoo, Willy's such a down to earth guy that it felt like I was talking to a friend for a couple hours, just relaxed and hanging out.
He finished up my outline that day and I instantly fell in love with it. I'm still going back to get everything colored in, but it looks amazing as is.
I would tell everyone to come in to get your work done here without any hesitation.
Nero is my hero! I was so nervous about getting my first Tattoo! He and the entire staff were very professional. He was patient and took the time to answer all my questions. I love my tattoo! It looks amazing. I would recommend Studio City Tattoo to anyone wanting to get a new Tatt or piercing. Thanks guys!!
Review Source:Illya is the best!!
These guys are old school, in the best sense of the term! They are savvy, polite, helpful, and put you at ease. Great attention to cleanliness and sterilization too. I've had Illya do two pieces for me so far, and I couldn't be happier with the process and results. This studio really takes the time to listen and plan out each piece for maximum satisfaction. It's really a collaboration.
I will be returning in the future for sure. I've already referred several people to Studio City Tattoo and Illya in particular; I was a referral myself!
Out of the two parlors I've been to get tattoos, this is by far the best one! The place is spotless, classically pirate-themed and the artists that work there are always very friendly and accommodating. I've gotten tattoos by Nero twice now, and am always happy with his work. They always check and re-check to make sure the tattoo template is the right size, in the right place, etc. before they start to make sure you're happy, and make sure that you're aware of how to take care of your tattoos afterwards. They're certainly not on the cheap side, but as the sign on the wall says, "Good tattoos aren't cheap, cheap tattoos aren't good!" I'd rather go here and spend more and be happy with what I get than spend less and be unhappy with something that's permanently etched in my skin.
Thanks a lot guys! You'll see me soon!
My girlfriend went in on her birthday hoping to get a quote on a tattoo, but with everything going on she ended up not and just getting a small piercing on her ear. Â
These guys were super nice and helped her every step of the way with whatever question she had. Â The place was spotless and with all the signs about their tattoos and the costs at least I know they strive for quality over quantity.
5 hours into my first trip to Los Angeles, my friend Savannah decides she wants to get a tattoo (I'm covered, and she got the itch). I had heard of Mike Erwin and decided to check out Studio City Tattoo in the Valley. We called in before - they do accept walk-ins - and we made our way. Savannah was VERY excited and couldn't stop talking the whole ride through. It was pretty awesome. I have always loved that adrenalin rush right before you get a new tattoo. It's a great high, and I was super happy to share this moment with someone.
We had an extremely friendly welcome. It was nice, relaxed, patient, and totally dealt with overexcited / overhyped we were. The shop in itself is very nicely designed, with a great and funny pirate theme going on; it maintains its important standard that "good tattoos are not cheap", and take great (and legitimate) pride in how skilled their artists are. A very sweet and cute guy, the piercer, was also at the counter doing math that I couldn't possibly understand in my booze addled brain (I have math-phobia, but he was cute enough that my anxiety levels dropped to an acceptable low). We were introduced to Colin, our artist that night, who has to be awarded a medal for his incredible relaxation, patience, and more importantly, talent.
I know this is part of an artist's job to make sure the design you want is absolutely the one that you get; a tattoo, however fun, remains a permanent alteration to your body, and no one should have to go through the trauma of dealing with a bad tattoo they end up covering up all the time because children point at it down the street, laugh loudly, maybe throw peanuts at them etc. I am extremely lucky in that I have consistently worked with amazing artists on the East Coast and display all of my work proudly, even in my overly responsible, grown-up, clean-cut job. Savannah is peculiar enough that she wants her tattoos to remain in a non necessarily accessible area of her body, but her designs were read, and her excitement was palpable. Colin had only a one-hour window, but he made the best of it, and took every single one of our suggestions to Savannah in stride, re-drawing a simple shaped geometrical arrow until she no longer had any reservations.
We flipped through his book while he was tattooing Savannah. My jaw dropped. Colin is an outstanding, extremely accomplished artist. Do not be fooled by his self-effaced demeanour; the man is a genius and I would be so lucky to have him tattoo me one day. His portraits are fantastically well-executed, which is no small feat in this industry. They have incredible style, and his book is nothing short of versatile. His two tattoos on Savannah - a little fun, rad Elvis tribute on her finger and the geometrical arrow on the inside of her arm - were rapidly executed with intricate attention to detail and soft, clean line work. She is over the moon with them, and over dinner later, she kept talking about how Colin would become her go-to artist. In fact, even if I rarely make the jump across the country, I would gladly go see Colin for myself, and make use of his incredible talent. I am super happy we managed to get him and get an available spot at Studio City Tattoo right when we wanted it.
Highly recommended, super happy, glad, great memories, and I had amazing spicy scallop temaki at a sushi place nearby (that should be part of another review). Go see those guys. Take it from a New Yorker.
After searching many years, I finally found the tattoo I really wanted. Â Now the next thing was to find someone who would do a great job. Â I have to say that I came to Yelp, found Studio City Tattoo and was very glad I did, I did go to another place (won't say the name) and from the moment I walked in that door I didn't feel comfortable and they weren't very helpful. Â From the moment I went in to talk to someone at SCT, they were very friendly and helpful and answered all my questions and concerns. Â Colin was the tattoo artist that helped me and I ended up booking an appointment with him.....WOW, what a great job he did! Â I'm already planning on going back to see him to add on to the tattoo he did. ...glad I went with SCT!
Review Source:Well. Â What can I say, the place is pretty classy. Â Aesthetically it's badass Pirate themed), every detail has been considered from the ceilings to the floors, the music rules and the artists are super cool.
They do amazing work (especially Mike Erwin since he is my artist and I have to say the least pretentious and most talented inker in LA I mean his line work is FLAWLESS!.. that I have found in the last 10 years... and I am no weekend warrior single ankle butterfly embarrassment tramp stamp type ho. Â OH NO. I am a go big or go home kinda betch. Â SO my SH*t better look damn good...) anyway.
They are mostly a custom shop so expect to book in advance and come by for a consultation first. Â Parking is also a bit tricky but the residential side streets offer free parking if you can find any.
Bottom line. Â If you want to walk in off the street and get a bear riding a dragon fighting a wold on your shoulder or a fairy on your ankle, you would be better suited taking your business to Hollywood Blvd to avoid the shame. Â NOT TO SAY THAT SOMEONE WON'T do it... $$ is $$. Â Just sayin. Â But if you are looking for talented ARTISTS who are also skilled in the permanent painting of the human canvas and you have some cool ideas. Â This is the place to come! Â The shop minimum is super fair and leaves you plenty of $ leftover to TIP!!
They also offer piercing.
I've been here several times over the past few months. I've been pierced and tattooed at this shop, and I finally feel like I've found a place to get all of my major work done! The staff is awesome, the work is great, and the ambiance is badass. It has higher minimums than other shops in the area, but do you really want to get a cheap tattoo?
I highly recommend Jose if you're looking to get some ink. He's quick, his lines are clean, and he has a killer 'stache.
SCT is the best tattoo/piercing studio there is in LA. The staff is super friendly as well. I haven't gotten a tattoo from them yet but when I do, I'll go to William Doolittle because I love his work. I normally go to Steve for my piercings and he's really great at helping you with service and aftercare. I would defiantly recommend going here!
Review Source:These guys are awesome! Super friendly, great atmosphere and extremely talented artists. Got my tattoo with Jose, whom I highly recommend, but like I said, all of them are extremely talented.
Jose took my basic idea, free drew it on my arm, Â and it was better than I could have expected. His first drawing was the tat I went with.
If you're thinking about a tattoo, I highly recommend you check this place out!
I've wanted to get my cartilage pierced for the longest time and finally when I was allowed to do so I was looking for 3 things in a place: clean, not too expensive and safe. I found Studio City Tattoo on Yelp and was so nervous to be entrusting my safety based on the reviews of other people. SCT is one of the most reviewed places in the Sherman Oaks/Studio City area and also had the best reviews.
I've never been to a tattoo shop before and I'm glad I went to SCT because the place didn't make me feel uncomfortable. The shop is pirate themed, which can seem weird, but it was really entertaining and made me less nervous. Eric/Squeeze (I think that was his nickname) helped me out and was really helpful in choosing the jewelry and walking me through the process. He showed me the report that everything was sterilized and helped me place the piercing in a spot that really suited me. (Taking consideration for the length of my hair). It went super fast and he was really personable. Gave me referrals to places in SLO because I was just leaving for college. Cartilage piercings are $30 there which isn't too bad considering most places. He instructed me to clean it every day with just warm water. I initially thought it was extremely sketchy not to use alcohol but I've never gotten an infection and it healed perfectly!
I had a really positive experience with SCT and it would probably be my go to place for piercings.
Mike is the best! I recommend going here and see him or anyone else if you're getting tatted or pierced. My tattoo came out great and it was awesome to know if it needed any touch ups or anything they guarantee their work and you can just come back in.
My previous tattoo at another shop needed touchups but when I returned for piercings the artist seemed to be MIA :(
So knowing the artists are easily available and here to stay is good reassurance. He gave me advice and if i had any questions, his phone number. I will be going back here for my next set of tattoos.
Nero is the best!!! Got a tattoo on my right leg last week and loved it so much I came in this week to do the left side! Great shop great atmosphere! Nero is light handed and makes what should be a painful process pretty darn ok! Will definitely go back to the shop for any other tattoos I get!!!
Review Source:I've been here many times and I've NEVER been disappointed. I came in today for a tribute tattoo for my father and Nero did an AMAZING job!! I gave him a couple ideas of what I wanted and he came up with the perfect tattoo!! Ill never go anywhere else! Good atmosphere, awesome people, great experience!!! Thanks Nero!
Review Source:We came here as a walk in tonight to get a tattoo to signify my battle with breast cancer. I didn't have a design drawn out but Jose understood with little description from me and drew something more beautiful than I could have imagined. The tattoo was done with great ease and his calmness was contagious. I'm in love with my tattoo and this place. The decor is incredible also. I highly recommend this place to anyone but the selfish side of me wants no one to go there so I can go in and get my tattoos done whenever I want. :-) if I could give them a million stars I would. Hands down the best tattoo to signify my battle and survival. Very happy and blessed costumer.
Review Source:I got a dermal piercing about a month ago (at a different shop) and have managed to bang my arm against the most random things at the worst times. I really wasn't sure what to do because the site was inflamed and looked funny; and I honestly didn't want to go back to the shop where I got the piercing (the service was good but I felt like I needed more attention, guidance, and the dos/donts for a dermal piercing)...
So long story short; I called SCT and asked if someone would give me five minutes of their time to take a look at my arm. My, I have to say, Veronica is one kick-ass girl!! She took me to her piercing chair, gloved up, cleaned my dermal and totally analyzed it. She asked me questions to get a better perspective of what I had been doing to keep it clean and then gave me suggestions and more appropriate cleaning methods to help me out. She went out of her way to make a copy of their "after care" sheet, which is something I was not given at the time of my piercing (at other shop). Honestly, I just felt so comfortable being there that it kinda makes me want to get another piercing!
Great customer service, knowledgable staff, cutesy spot, and conveniently located. I'm all for it.
Wish my dermals a speedy recovery!
I previously got a tattoos/piercings at Velvet Grip and Body Electric and while I loved both studios, the la parking hunt (plus the parking ticket) was not worth it. Â Studio City Tattoo is clean, the artists are amazing, and the parking is easy!
I walked in on a Saturday night and was tattooed by Nero. He was friendly, clean, patient, and helpful. I came in with an idea and he sat with me as we picked the style, placement, color, and size. He was very patient with me and made sure that I loved the tattoo.
I love my new ink and can't wait for it to heal! I will definitely be coming back to Studio City tattoo for my next one!
Jose is amazing. Â We're currently working on a sleeve and i'm super exciting to see it once it's all finished!
He's quick (We got the outline of my detailed 3/4 sleeve done in 3 hours) and a really nice guy. Â Super enjoyable to talk to. Â I know the artistic ability and expereince is really important, but when i'm sitting in a chair for 3 hours, having a good conversation and laugh is a definite plus. Â
Besides that, he IS a super talented artist. Â When I first told him what I wanted, he went above and beyond and made the rest of my tattoos flow into one in a way I had never thought of. Â Then when it came time, he free-handed a portion of it right on my skin. Â You can just tell he has artistic ability the second you meet the guy. Â
The music they play is really great too, which is another huge plus. Â If i'm going to be uncomfortable for a long period of time, I don't want to hear the same band, the staff skipping a song after only playing for 30 seconds over and over again, or a lead singer screaming his head off for an hour. The other artists are also friendly and talented.
Super clean and pofessional.
I definitely plan on coming here for future work.
Not happy: Long to the short, I came in about 2 years ago to get some flash, an outline of a star, in black, behind my left ear. Well, it's totally blown out-it doesn't even look like a star any longer, more like a jellyfish. I wish I was  joking-this isn't a hate review, but now, I'm waiting on my Wrecking Balm to arrive so I can fade it down, and whatever's left after the fading, I'm going to fade off the rest of the way with lasers. I'm not sure if the guy flooded my skin with too much ink or what happened, but well..I used to come here for piercings, then one tiny star, and now, I'll never come back. Oh, and if the owner/manager thinks I'm trying to scam the place, look up my name-we paid with a credit card and I filled out my paperwork, my name is Erin Myers. I'll be uploading a picture over the next few days so you guys can see that this review comes from a place of truth....I trusted you guys, I wore sunscreen, I did what I was told, and now, I have to wear my hair down to hide it.  You need to look up the guy that did it, and seriously fire him-I mean c'mon, it was "just" a tiny star, man...
Buyer beware. :(
Just moved into the area and am so glad I found Studio City Tattoo! I would highly recommend them to anyone wanting a great tattoo experience.
I went to check the shop and and find an artist that could finish my side-piece and everyone was extremely helpful and friendly. They let me look at all of their work so I could pick out the artist whose work I like best. (It was a hard choice. They all have awesome stuff.) After meeting with Willy, and making an appointment for the next week I was ready to go!
I know it's probably not exciting to shade in an incomplete tattoo, but Willy was great, polite and friendly and I am in love with the end result.
I'm looking forward to getting many more tattoos and won't consider going anywhere else!
(Oh side note, I was there for about 4 hours so I was able to see one their piercers (can't remember his name) help out several customers, all of whom were extremely pleased with how quickly and well he was able to help with their piercing needs. They all raved about their experience.)
Love me some Studio City Tattoo!
My friends, family, and I have been coming here for years to get all our tattoos and piercings, but the best experience I've had thus far was on Monday when I got tatted by Captain Dave. Aside from doing an exceptional job, he was welcoming, funny, and light-handed so there was virtually no pain! (sometimes, it even tickled). He also hooked me up and re-touched one of my tattoos that I didn't even get from SCT for a seriously fair price.
I love my new ink so much, and I can't wait to think of something else I want so I can come back :) Thanks again Captain Dave, you're the best!!
These guys are dicks. Please don't waste your money getting tattooed by people that could care less about you as a customer.
Guess what Studio City Tattoo?... The people/customers you are rude to, are making it so YOU can pay your bills & have money in your bank account. If you guys only want to tattoo people that you feel are worthy, than make it a hobby & do it from your house & only on your own friends.
I know a tattoo shop is not Disneyland but when you walk into any business you should be able to ask questions without getting attitude.
What's the point of being a tattoo artist if your TOO COOL for customers?
ANY business owner, that is rude and/or short with customers doesn't deserve to have the business. YES, even tattoo shop owners/arists. I'm so sorry being in a band didn't work out for you. BUT if your SOOO miserable go do something else with your life..
The way you guys speak to and/or ignore potential customers is bad business 101. MOST decent business owners know the simple/basic principles of running a business, you guys clearly missed that page in the handbook. Do yourselves a favor & hang it up. Plus, you'll spare yourselves the embarrassment of bad reviews. Oh never mind, I'm sure you don't care about the bad reviews right? Cuz your a bad ass tattoo artist :)
I suggest you find another tattoo place, because these people don't deserve your  money & patronage. Please don't patronize any tattoo shop OR any business where you are not being treated friendly. Please don't reward rude behavior, they don't deserve your money, EVEN if they are a great artist.....why reward an asshole?
Congratulations, you guys are awesome at pissing people off & carrying a horrible reputation.
I recommend SCT without reservation.
I'm an old, apparently conventional dude with a few piercings and tats that mostly don't show. I have been treated here with nothing but the utmost respect and professionalism.
My stepdaughter who lives in the Midwest came to visit a few years ago, and was determined to get a tat at the place that had the TV show; however, she was put off by their minimum price and, IIRC, their attitude. Without an appointment she was able to work with an artist here to create a pleasing, personally significant design and have it inked.
I had my one tat that does show done here, a dragon on my calf. There were a number of trigger points on my leg which caused it to jerk repeatedly despite my best efforts to hold it still. Not once did I hear the word you don't want to hear when being inked--"Oops..."--and there isn't a drop of ink out of place.
Yesterday my wife wanted to get her ears re-pierced, as she hadn't had any earrings in them in at least a couple of decades. The piercer, Steve, took a close look and determined that the old passages were still pretty much open; he fitted her with some new jewelry, which saved us the price of piercing. He was gentle, kind and informative.
Five stars, period.
Thinking about getting something done? Don't go anywhere but this place. Studio City Tattoo effin rocks. Coming from a person that's been to a couple of other spots... then this place.. let's just say I'll never go anywhere else.
The pirate decor really puts you at ease from the moment you walk into the door. As authentic as pirate stuff gets. For me, it happens to be a huge plus since I'm actually a fan to all things pirate related.
The peeps there are friendly and extremely helpful. They'll work with you and help turn your ideas into works of art. So far I've gotten a few traditional tats and they are by far my best pieces. Unfortunately my tattoo guy (Duff) moved, but I'm looking forwarded to getting tatted by others there. They don't bring in just any tattoo artist here at this place so whoever you get rest assured they know their stuff. They will even recommend specific artists for specific styles which is dope.
I've also gotten many piercings (you don't want to know where) I HIGHLY recommend Steve for any piercings. Ask for him by name. He's chill and has loads of experience.
Best to call in advance and make an appointment. The secret's out so their schedule can sometimes fill up.
I wanted a small tattoo and researched the best place to get it done, and thought I found it ... but the end result was very disappointing. To sum it up, I went in and got the tattoo done, then after it healed, it looked very crackly and uneven, even though I followed the instructions for aftercare. It looked like the outline was done very nicely, but it was colored in very hastily or something.
I went back and told them about the issue and got a touch up, but it still looks the same. The outline is nice and perfectly colored, but inside is a disaster. I would go back a third time, but I'm not sure I'd be well received... and it's been several months now. I'm not sure if he understood what was wrong or how to fix it. It's such a shame that I'm not proud of my tattoo, and it costs about $100.
Seriously, don't let anyone besides Duff touch your skin, because he will rock your world and make you want to run through the streets to show everyone how beautiful your new tattoo looks.
I got my biggest piece to-date from Duff, and the whole experience (which spanned over 3 sessions) was amazingly pleasant.
All the guys working here are very cool, fun, and down-to-earth.
Despite spending hours and hours with a tattoo gun in my arm, I felt very relaxed and distracted by all the jokes being told around me.
Duff is an amazing artist.
I got a zombie pin-up girl that's sitting on top of body parts, and it covers half of my arm. Even two years later the color is vibrant and I get stopped constantly by curious people.
I came to Duff with my rough idea, and he turned it into a piece of art by adding some of his own designs. He was great at choosing colors that complimented my skin and the whole tattoo, and I couldn't be happier with the outcome.
He's a quiet guy, but I actually prefer that when I'm sitting in a chair for hours.
The decor is fun, all of the artists are talented, and it is the only place I will ever get another tattoo done while I'm living in LA.
Wow... Could not have wished for a better experience. FANTASTIC place to get a piercing done!
I went in with my friend wanting my upper helix pierced - I was crazy nervous though, as this was my first non-earlobe piercing. Steve was amazing. He made me feel completely at ease, and I actually had a lot of fun (the environment of the shop is great). He sat me down and explained everything he was going to do. Of course, this place does NOT use a piercing gun - they do it right, with a needle. It didn't hurt at all and Steve was super efficient.
I am in love with my piercing. My friend liked it so much she got it done, too! And to top off the excellent service, Steve gave us an informative guide for how to care for the piercings and walked us through everything we could possibly need to know to take care of it. And the whole thing cost a super affordable $30.
It was such a great experience, I want to go back ASAP! I just have to think of something to get pierced...
I have been coming to Studio City Tattoo for a little over 8 years now, and I just have to say I fell in love with the shop (it's unique look and interesting setting gives it that special something) and I adore the staff.
I have always been treated with respect and have always had the best service. Studio City Tattoo shop is very clean, friendly and updated on the latest items. The prices for piercing and tattoos are amazingly cheap considering the city it is in. Which makes me happy and able to come back more often for ink.
My first time to the shop my artist could tell I was a little nervous and sat with me drawing up free handily some talented work. Â The next few times my artist took time out of his busy night to get clients some sodas and smokes from across the street. (Now that's some upscale service for a tattoo shop!!) Â My most recent experience was by far the best and showed what good customer service Studio City Tattoo has to offer.
My artist has gone above and beyond to please me and I will continue to go back for years to come. Â I know everyone who visits will have an outstanding experience day or night at Studio City Tattoo. Â
*Thanks Capt. Dave for the noteworthy published  and very talented work you have created on me, the patience you have and the unforgettable outgoing personality you have. To many more years of unique tattoos by you!!!!
I was drawn to this place by the decor and stayed because of the amazing staff.
I had a huge mess of a tattoo before going here. I came in and everyone was great. I was paired up with Mike. Let me just say I instantly liked him. He's so easy going, great to talk to, and really listened to what I wanted. He made my ugly Tattoo an amazing piece of art. You can't even tell it was a cover up. Â I gave him full range and he put his own spin on it. I am absolutely in love with my Tattoo and constantly receive compliments on it from everyone.
While I was there everyone interacted with each other. I never felt like a client, I felt included with what was going on.
I can't wait to go back and get another Tattoo from Mike. He's amazingly talented and the prices are reasonable.
If you don't go here, your going to wish you had.
I got my first Tattoo here and I definitely don't regret it!
Service: Super attentive, detailed, and honest. They will tell you if your design will work/not work. They're willing to repeatedly change your design in order to fully satisfy your needs. My design took 2 hours to revamp and he didn't complain at all. They know that you will be having this tattoo for life, so they're extremely patient.
The shop:
Clean and interesting! They have a pirate theme going on so your eyes are always entertained. This is a small space but it definitely doesn't feel cramped.
Price: A little bit on the pricier side, but the cost is totally worth it. My tattoo (approximately 4 x 4 inches, color w/ shade) was 145 bucks + tip. The outcome was awesome though.
Let me preface this by saying that I used to work as a tattoo artist. So, I'm not your normal walk in customer. I do have some experience to speak on this matter.
I got my nose pierced here by Stephen, who was a sweetheart.
Long story short. My nose got infected. I had a huge keloid on it. I went back down to the shop to get the jewelry switched out for a ring, and barely got the time of day. They didn't even ask me if they could help, just said that the piercer wasn't there and to come back another time.
Ended up going to another shop to get it looked at. Come to find out, jewelry was bent incorrectly and was actually causing the keloid. Had the jewelry switched out and bent CORRECTLY and the keloid has already started to heal.
Crap piercing, crappier service. Honestly don't know how these guys have gotten such high ratings.
I decided to go to Studio City Tattoo for my very tatt because they have been voted "Best of LA's Tattoo Shop" several years running. Â I emailed them that I wanted my tattoo done on a specific day but was skepticl that it could be done because I was only contacting them a couple of days in advance, and it was a considered a holiday.
When I got there I instantly fell in love with the place. Â The decor is sick and it's got a great vibe. Â Mike did my tatt and while it was supposed to be a copy of a tattoo that other family members had done for memorial purposes, he asked if he could put his own spin on it. Â I said of course and LOVE IT! Â I get more compliments on it and I will definitely have him do my next one. Â
Not only was he laid back and easy going, he took his time and kept asking if I was OK knowing I was a tatt virgin. Â I guess a tatt on the forearm just above the wrist is supposed to hurt but it was pretty pain free.
Got my first tattoo done here about 8 months ago and it was a little pricey but I love my tattoo--no regrets.
Skylar was the artist who worked on me and he did a fantastic job.
Keep in mind that I'm a huge pansy when it comes to pain and I was sweating BULLETS before, during and even after this was done.
However, I was able to sit through the entire thing (about 45 min) without too much of a fuss (and the tattoo was on my side, ouch!).
I'm not going to say it didn't hurt or that I was having the time of my life when my skin is being pierced over and over again by a needle but, it wasn't that bad and the pain did turn into a dull ache. This is in part because Skylar does great work. He has a steady hand, took his time, he was patient and really friendly--good with calming my nerves.
My only quarrels is that my best friend got the same tattoo (all lettering: "Proverbs 31:30") and we later discovered (as the tattoo healed) that he didn't connect some of the lines on her tattoo and the lines on the "P" of my tattoo looks a little fuzzy and not distinctly outlined as it should be. AND, Skylar was about 45 minutes late for our appt which was kind of unprofessional regardless of whether or not it's a tatttoo shop.
Like other tattoo places, they also offer to do "touch-ups" within 6 months of the tattoo.
This place rocks!!!
I've been to 5 other tattoo joints and Studio City Tattoo is clearly the best one.......now don't get me wrong.... it's not the cheapest...but you really do get what you pay for.....I've been there twice in the past 3 months or so and both times I've had Mike work on a piece for me.
Mike is truly a master at his craft and I can't wait to go back for some more.
I walked in with two of my friends. We were all set on getting tattoos but it seemed like no one wanted to help us.
After finally getting one of the staff's attention, we explained the tattoos we wanted to get & it just seemed like they were overcharging us. A two-inch flower for $120-$140? No thanks. I ended up going somewhere else where I paid less than half of what these guys were charging me & it came out beautiful.
A friend got rook and navel piercings, and I got some lobe piercings and a helix. (Oh, look at me, remembering the technical terms...haha). Â
Okay, here's the truth - I don't know a damn thing about piercings and tattoos. Â All I know is that I think they're cool, and I finally mustered up enough courage to walk into a shop. Â By "muster up enough courage", I mean I went online, read Yelp reviews like crazy, then finally walked into this place hoping I wouldn't sound too much like an idiot. Â (more than normal, at least)
This place is AWESOME. Â ALL of the staff members are very personable, chill, friendly...and best of all...masters at their work. Â That seriously means a lot to me. Â They are professionals, but they aren't full of themselves. Â Whether you're a regular or a n00b walk-in like me, they treat you like a person. Â That is just awesome.
Their decor gets two-thumbs up. Â Three if I had three thumbs, but that'd be creepy.
The place is freakishly clean. Â I bet only a hospital is cleaner than this place.
I don't know how their prices compare to other places, but who cares about the other places? Â Okay, fine - my helix cost $35 (came with the jewelry), $25 for the lobe studs, and...now I can't remember what else I got. Â Haha. Â It was totally worth every dollar. Â I'd rather pay more for a fun, relatively pain free experience (physically, emotionally, grammatically, ecumenically...) than pay cheap bucks for some teenager at Claire's to shoot me with those piercing guns (no offense to teenagers).
They prefer that you make an appointment ahead of time (check out their website), and it's good for you, too, so you know your artist will be in. Â But, they're also super sweet to walk-ins. Â Plan on staying awhile - not because they're slow but because you'll WANT to stay and get more work done!
Nick does the piercings, and the dude is amazing. Â My friend was about to have an aneurysm from panicking about the whole thing, but she left feeling rather good (and relatively pain free). Â I had a great experience - maybe too good an experience since I want to go back for more stuff after I heal up a bit.
Count yourself lucky that this review is only 5-ish full paragraphs long. Â My husband had to listen to me rave about this place for almost 2 hours. Â I even took him to see it later that day. Â Yeah, that's how awesome this place is. Â AWESOME.
I've never gotten any crazy piercings or have any tattoos on my body so I was quite amazed when I entered Studio City Tattoo, considering it's the first tattoo shop i've stepped foot into my entire life!
My daring crazy friend Deanna T. decided she wanted some dermal piercings and found this shop via Yelp. The staff here were super friendly and knowledgable and went through all the instructions with her. The place was also very clean and well kept, which is a huge plus.
I've had some bad experiences getting inked -- when I was 16, my brother and his West Point friends talked me into getting a certain famous yellow bird with a big head and name that rhymes with "Fweety" on my leg... I can still hear them giggling like the little military-school rat bastids they were, while I sat in the chair... many years and 10 laser sessions later, the little guy is gone, but the scars are there. The emotional kind. haha
Luckily I made up for my mistakes and got a few tats at shops that would never let a poor 16 year old kid get a cartoon emblazoned on his fresh, baby-like skin.
So, I did my research, asked my counselor (the ghost of Tweety on my leg) and got my latest ink at Studio City Tattoo. Here's the breakdown:
Super clean!!!!!
Illya did some ill work, yo!! Perfect, efficient and beautimous.
Hilarious artists that my lady and I had a great time jokin' with.
Fun place and extremely clean.
Recycled needles, which is very green and cool.
Totally kidding about the recycled needles.
Excellent work, by cool people who don't let people get dumb tattoos.
Go there and get some inkola - you'll love it and I promise you won't tink you taw a putty tat!!
This place is great, and the staff rocks! Â
I had heard about Studio City Tattoo from others, silly me should have known that it would be busy and popular with all the raves I had received... Â But my friends and I decided to try to walk in anyhow.
Once I explained the very small, simple piece that wanted... Â (Black, no color.) Â AND when my friends mentioned that it WAS my birthday.... Â Mike VOLUNTEERED to do the work even though he was off the clock! Â And I love that about him!
No one there made me feel awkward or less-of-a-customer simply because I was getting such a small amount of work done--which I embarrassingly admit was in the back of my head. Â I felt right at home there.
They rocked my world. Â
Mike was awesome. Â
You should go there. Â
Now.
I'm starting with  I LOVE this place. Â
*UPDATE again* I have gone here several times with my husband to buy his earrings and honestly they could not be any nicer. I always feel comfortable in a tattoo shop but the owner and several of the artists always have a warm welcome and I love that. Â Plus the pirate stuff is pretty awesome.
By far the most professional and welcoming tattoo shop that I have been to. Slim, Ilya, Todd, and Duff are some of the best tattoo artists in the country, let alone Los Angeles. Slim is a BOSS when it comes to lettering and fancies. Ilya did the sickest P-40 Warhawk I've ever seen and Duff does some of the goriest, most colorfully staggering pieces out there. All the artists have an LA swagger and their own style. Don't let the pirate theme fool you, the shop is spotless! I get tattooed at Studio City Tattoo, savvy?
"Good tattoos aren't cheap and cheap tattoos aren't good"
5 Stars. Yes.
I brought a friend of mine (who's in her 50's) to get her 1st tattoo here.
I was concerned and wanted this experience to be the best for her. (i have 5 tattoos all gotten in NYC)
Studio City Tattoo was warm, friendly, interested and CLEAN!
Every single person who spoke to us was super cool and down to earth.
No douche bags on their High Horse here - like the 1st place we went to on Ventura Blvd -
MIKE tatted my girl's wrist and he was awesome. Totally professional, charming and helped her to relax.
I will def. come back to have some work done here myself.
So yeah. Came here recently with a girlfriend of mine to get matching "wishbones" before I move back to Texas. We were treated professionally from phone call to finish.
Skylar did our work and we found him to be an impressive artist with a smooth and steady hand who was pretty easy on the eyes, to boot! Â
I've gotten a pretty snooty vibe at some of the places I've been to, but NOT here. In fact, I'm probably gonna try to squeeze in some touch up work with Skylar on my other pieces before I head on home.
DEF recommend!!
If you are going to get a tattoo go here! I loved my experience and I will most likely never have another person tattoo me unless it is Skylar. All of the people who work there (minus the guy who does the piercing because he was annoying) are incredible!! They make you feel so comfortable and are very encouraging.
To add to that they are fantastic at their work, they not only made my tattoo beautiful their artwork in the shop is amazing. These are some seriously talented people.
Skylar what can I say he was friendly, patient, insanely talented. I just all in all had a great experience.
It is a little pricey but you get what you pay for, excellent quality.
I just recently got my 3rd tat.
Studio City Tattoo  specifically Artist Skylar is to thank. Also Dana made a tattoo for a girlfriend of mine and he also was great!
I would recommend either of these guys to anyone, their really wonderful.
First of all the place is Clean, Fun, and the Service is exceptional. You should be smart and call and make an appointment. Every artist there is so talented. Â They are very informative with the do's and don'ts.
THE PROCESS - Once you meet your artist he or she will sit with you & discuss the piece you want to get. You either can bring your own ideas which they actually like, they can work creatively with you or simply make something specifically for you. THEY ARE ARTISTS, don't be afraid to have them help you with your ideas or ask them theirs.
To be honest I am a wimp and I'm not one to enjoy, like or get off on pain. The work that I had done wasn't anything huge but it was a big deal for me. My new Tattoo is on my wrist, size it's between small and medium and it's the first color I have put on my body. Anywayz being that Im a wuss , they were very cool and chill with me. They made the experience fun and really memorable to say the least.
The $$- Pricing is beyond reasonable.
If you want a tattoo this is the only place to go!
I LOVE this place and these people!
I've had Captain Dave do all of my ink, and I heard recently he moved to Las Vegas but might come in sometimes to do some appointments, and I hope so, we have more to do!
But let me tell you, this is a sweet little shop with some extraordinary talent. You get to watch everyone doing their thing while you wait and wince, and they are all the top of the line, honestly.
I've had Dave do 4 tatts for me, and he always took great care and time in helping me to really design them to be unique and right for ME, and he's a total pro when it comes to making you comfortable. Very patient, sweet, friendly, and I LOVE my ink. He's also extremely fair in what he charges.
I should also mention that I got my nose pierced there and it was great; quick, easy, safe, clean and never any problems. I think it was Nick who poked my nose, but like I said, everyone here is at the top of their game.
I love the over the top pirate theme, it sets the tone for the fun and silliness, which makes it all so much more enjoyable. it's a small shop and a small crew, so there may not always be someone free to greet you and chat at the counter, but it's not a rushed environment, you need to be prepared to come in and possibly chill, look through some books, or chat with others if someone's not ready at that moment to come chat with you. Personally, I don't mind that, I never feel pressured or rushed, just relaxed by it all.
I should also mention they are admirably cautious. Â About a year ago I told Cap'n Dave I wanted a neck tatt, and he told me to think about it for about 6 months or so because I looked a bit "vanilla" (my word) for something that visible and tough to hide. He worried it might bite me in the butt when it comes to work, etc. I dig that. But I came back a year later, convinced him, and the rest is history. I think most reputable artists will take things like that into consideration and try to save you from yourself, lol. Spontenaeity and permanent body art ain't such a good combo, so I think it's cool he did that. I ended up with something wonderful and knew for sure it was right for me.
Safe, clean, friendly, chill and incredible artists. ;)
I didn't get anything very complicated, but they were quick and cleanly done and inexpensive. Duff seems very personable, and all the employees were very friendly.
This shop is super clean. They even wipe down their lamps! Keep in mind there's a price minimum if you're looking for anything tiny.
I found this studio based on reviews, and I went in for a consultation first.
I highly recommend Conor, though I'm not sure he's still there, and Dana is great, too.
Dana did my tattoo. I designed a flying ship, and he was very helpful with the design idea and helped me with the finishing touches before we put it to my skin. It was the most painful tattoo ever, because it's on the inside of my arm. But... it's really awesome. I love it, and he was great the whole way through. I could tell that he really loved working on it, and wasn't just tattooing me because it's a job. You've got to love when a tattoo artist is proud of their work!
Conor was also really cool. He did my boyfriend's tattoo, and was equally happy to do it. It turned out fantastic, and both of our tattoos healed beautifully.
I always recommend this place, which by the way guarantees their tattoos so you can always get them touched up for free.
I love Studio City Tattoo!!! Probably one of the best tattoo studio in LA. Very clean and prices are very reasonable, and it's like Pirate headquarters.
Â
I was referred by several friends and coworkers, that's the best way i think. You see a tattoo you like on someone and just (kindly) ask them who did their work. Word of mouth kept leading me there. So a few months later i finally went for it.
Illya did a cover up for me earlier this year, it took 3 sessions but you would never know there was a tribal underneath that crow, i love it!
Today Slim did a smaller tattoo on my forearm, i love it too. I wasn't sure about the font but when i saw the stencil on my arm i knew he was right, it turned out perfect.
(Very amused that Slim referred to me as "this young lady" given the fact I'm probably older than him).
Everyone there is very nice, helpful and really good at what they do (and obsessed with their little tattoo machines...bless them, I'm like that with my vinyls hehe).
I've only been tattooed by Illya and Slim; both are very talented artists, and i highly recommend them.
A couple of friends got tattooed by Capt. Dave, are regular clients and going back for more, and i hear only good things about everyone else.
Â
Though they can do it all, I think each guy might have a specialty or preferred style so you make sure you check out their books and talk to them, or they have photos on their myspace page. I know Illya is a master at  traditional Japanese tattoos, but mine wasn't and it turned out amazing.
Whether you want your first tattoo or are just continually succumbing to the addiction this is a great place to go to.
Obviously, just do your homework, tattoos are forever (well ok there's laser removal now, but i heard it hurts like a mofo...)
PS: Ladies! i forgot to mention that the guys at the shop are not exactly bad to look at either :)...that really helps distracting you from the little buzz of the needle digging in your skin...just thought you might like to know.
Happy inking...
Studio City Tattoo rocks! This place raised the bar on kitschy pirate themes.
I came here twice to get inked (once in 2005 and again in 2006). The first time I came alone and as a walk-in, and I forget who my artist was. I chose a tribal from the books and had my artist customize it. It's on my front pelvic bone and was pretty quick and painless, and I still love it today!!
The second time was more involved. I came by initially to inquire about getting a custom tattoo on my lower back to cover up a small one I had before. I wanted big, bold, and hella artistic. Todd was the MAN (I don't know if he's still there). He basically busted out a pencil, free-hand sketched my existing tattoo, and started talking his way through a few new concepts. He was super open to ideas but pushed back when he didn't agree with me.
After he asked for a few days to sketch/think (all free of charge), I came back with my friend (Mako S.) for the hour-long torture-fest. Todd showed me his handsketch, but told me that instead of tracing it, would rather just free-hand sketch on my lower back so he can "feel the curves of my body". HAWT...but scary!!! But what the hell - I'm up for trying new things, so I said go for it.
All I can say is...I love love love Todd's work. He did such an amazing job turning my small tattoo into this big tribal art that crawls up my back upto my right hip. I want to find him so I can get a touch up!
5 full stars for STudio City! It's clean, sterile, fun, warm, and reasonably priced. And buy these guys a few snickers bars, they'll love it!
Back 5-6 years ago... I was searching for a place who could help me to create the tattoo Ive always wanted. I snooped around online and in person, since there were not many reviews of shops online at that time... The best one I found was Studio City Tattoo or AKA Ye Olde Tattoo Shoppe...
The artist I chose was Josh. I gave him a base picture and told him how I wanted to add my own custom touches. He charged $45 at that time to draw it up. I came back a few days later and it was absolutely wonderful. A week later, he started work on the outline. I came back a month later for some details... Total cost at this point was about $700 including tip for about 5hrs of work. Josh definitely cut me some breaks and gave me great pricing! Shop average is about $120/hr. Rough price, since its usually priced per session, rather than hour.
Now here is the bummer... I tried to schedule another appt and learned that Josh had moved to Arizona! He was only stopping by on certain weekends and was already booked forever! I was moving out of the area anyways and decided that I was better off finding a different artist... Here I am, 5-6 yrs later and still have an unfinished backpiece. lol. For those who have a few tats... You know its not easy at all to replace an artist you love...
Why am I writing this review NOW? Well, I stumbled across their MySpace page last night and it seems that Josh might be back! I have to call soon and find out!!! *excited* But Im waiting for a couple paychecks first! Â :D
Anywho, I have sent about 15 friends to this place since 5-6yrs ago till now and they have been getting work done by Caleb and everyone absolutely loves him. Noone that I have sent over there, whether for new or cover-up work has been disappointed! I think Caleb is actually gone now, though...
Whatever, I need to go back soon!
3rd time..still happy! :-)
This time just need a touch-up to the small one I got in March. Quick, easy, Mike was just as great. These guys just do good art work! Really patient and did a good job. I'm still a raving fan and will be back for #4...
Just thought I'd Yelp them again cuz I really like it here!
I LOVE NICK! He's just rad, he's done a tone of piercings on me and at this point i wouldn't go to anyone else. He's not your typical creepy tattoo shop piercer guy. He has a good heart, he's talkative and always has a big smile on his face. When he actually does a piercing he's very calm witch helps it not hurt as bad. He's always very professional and knowledgeable, you can tell he's passionate about his work. I always call in to see when he's going to be working.
He did a surface piercing below my naval that lasted forever and looked awesome several years ago. I trusted him to do this one because he said he went to a workshop on it and sounded like he knew a lot about them.
He gave me a tripple naval piercing, it looked really cool, healed nicely. perfectly symmetrical and well thought out.
I have 4 random ear cartilage piercings from him that are all awesome! Some where even his idea to do and i think they look really cool
I got my first tat done here, after having checked out three other shops in the valley. Â I had never imagined I could get a tat with the detail, shading and color, better than the way I imagined it. Â
Also got my first piercings done here. Â All in all, I don't expect to be treated with "Excellent Customer Service" when I go to a tattoo shop, BUT, I have never had a bad experience, and this is by far the best tattoo shop I have ever been to. Â
Yes, a bit pricing, but well worth the funds, especially if your going to have your art on your body for a very long time. Â
ALWAYS check out a few shops if your going to have art done, but I'm certain Studio City will be your final choice.
An employee messaged me about how my review hurts everyone else who works there and weren't there that day but let's not externalize the blame. A couple rotten eggs do spoil the bunch! However, the business owner also messaged me and apologized for having been M.I.A. that day. I'm amazed at how he remembers the exact reason why he wasn't in over two years ago, and it was sweet of him to take one for the team. Thanks Clay! I do wish you were there that day. (But I ended up getting my tragus pierced overseas in Seoul for $10, go figure!) Please try to have a piercer there at all times!
This business obviously cares about its customer base, and I know service isn't always perfect. So though I may be too bitter to do so, don't be afraid to try this place out!
I've gotten two tattoos here. One from Dana and one from Captain Dave. No offfense to Dana but I love Captain Dave. He has a light and quick hand. Good to know if you're weak sauce like me. hahaha.
Captain Dave is also really funny which makes the experience wonderful and fun . . . and semi-painful.
I would definitely stick with Captain Dave for future ink.
This is definitely where I"ll be getting my tattoo.
Yes, I haven't gotten any tattoo work done (here) yet, but this place is highly recommended by a friend of mine who has been there for some ink. Â So how do I know about the place other than hearsay? Â I did go there for my ear piercings. Â I started at 10ga, and the service was friendly and fast. Â
I could tell the stories were true - incredibly clean facilities, professional staff, and yes, even the pirate theme. Â The shop isn't all that big, so you might end up having to wait a bit if you're just making a quick purchase of earrings or something. Â
This is awesome, I finished this review of a pirate-themed tattoo/piercing job without a "buccaneer" joke. Sort of.
Oh how I love Studio City Tattoo, let me count the ways.
As a proud owner of a full sleeve myself (oh let's face it, and a really big ham about it), I'm picky. Â I'm one of those people who has a complete picture in their head and is totally incapable of painting a verbal picture. Â So when I walked in, looked through the books, and asked Connor to finish my previously outlined half-sleeve (I had just moved and the original artist was not only 1500 miles away, but seriously slipping in quality), he had NO idea what he was in for.
We sat down, looked at some pictures, got some color ideas (what I had was only a black outline). Â I immediately felt comfortable with him and knew we were on the same wavelength in terms of the previously aforementioned mental picture. Â I said "Connor, your mission it to not make me look like a grandmother's upholstery", and off we went.
Fast forward about 2 years and I'm now in full color, with a half sleeve that's grown in to a full. Â Connor has dealt with me through the good moments and cranky, is patient when I'm in my I-don't-know-what-I-want phase, and happily ducks when I'm in pain and almost take a swing at him. Â
Ryan is awesome as well. Â He gave me a beautiful dermal anchor on my finger about a year ago, and it has healed beautifully (yes it's a piercing, no it doesn't go all the way though, yes it hurt, no I don't rip it out daily).
Overall this is by far the best shop I've been to. Â It's small, clean and comfortable, and in truth, I'd recommend anyone who works there.
... and you never know when a random pirate will walk in.
I'm not kidding.
I was introduced to Studio City Tattoo about a year ago, when my artist of preference, Noah Baxter, started working there. My first impression of the place was "argh me matey, thou be gettin a tattoo!"
The decor is totally pirate-d out. Which is actually kinda nice if you're spending hours on end starting at a golden skull while Noah rails away at your ribcage with a tattoo gun.
A few words on the staff, first of all, they're great guys and they are friendly and helpful BUT it's a small shop, it's extremely busy and if you want help you need to speak up. They assume you know why you're there, and if you're getting anything of consequence done you'll need an appointment. And yes, they would rather joke around with one another than look for customers to serve, after all, it's a tattoo shop NOT a department store.
If you're looking for a way to translate your original idea into an amazing custom designed tattoo, you should definitely talk to Noah. I've become very attached to him, he's spent about 12 hours tattooing me since he started at Studio City. He never fails me! He's a good communicator, again, friendly and helpful, all components of a great artistic collaborator.
Beyond all that, the shop strives to be clean and up to code at all times. they spare no expense to ensure your health and safety. it's a tightly run ship!!!!
sorry I had to say that. Seriously though, if you're thinking of getting tattooed you should check them out.
I loved this place. When I was looking for a place that could do my last tattoo, I went on word of mouth, Internet reviews, and web site information. After doing some research, I decided on Studio City Tattoo because it looked like a fun, clean, safe place that people seemed really happy with.
I went into the tattoo parlor and set up an appointment. The guy at the counter that made me appointment looked at my tattoo idea first, and found an artist that could do that kind of work - it wasn't just whoever was available at the time, but someone that had experience in the kind of tattoo I was getting.
When I went back, the guy talked to me about what I wanted, made sure I would be happy when it was done, and off we went. I was comfortable the entire time with him and in the store. I'm SO happy with my tattoo, if I ever get another one I would go back to Studio City tattoo. I have two other tattoo's, and I'm the happiest with the one I got here.
Decorations are amazing.
Update***
Just got my third Studio City Tattoo shop tattoo (4th tattoo on my bod) and I am still madly in love with this place. Â I got a bad a$$ Betsey Johnson style rose on my back, which is my first large colored tattoo. Â Noah was my artist and he was spectacular. Â He drew up a rose that was more awesome then I could have hoped for. Â It only took an hour and he was friendly and cool the whole time. Â This tattoo is so damn cool he is even putting it in his portfolio -- so next time you go and see a rose picture in his book ... that's my back you're lookin at mister.
*****
just left Studio CIty Tattoo about an hour ago, and what a wonderful experience I had. Â I walked in around 5:00 and scheduled an appointment for 10pm (it was the first available time). Â The girl at the desk is too cute and totally sweet, and the guys there are hot (if you are into guys who are tattooed from head to toe) and soooo nice. Â What can I say, I am sucker for attractive people with good customer service skills.
Dave was my tattoo artist he designed my tattoo based on some little bastard sketch I made. Â He is AWESOME at what he does. Â This is my second tattoo, the first I got done in DC and it hurt like a bitch. Â This one in LA that Dave did felt good...seriously.
I highly recommend this place because the people there are great and you leave with a cute little tattoo. Oh and I didn't think the prices were bad at all. Â 5 stars baby.
The place was clean...and totally pirated out...What is it with guys and pirates?...But yeah I was tattooed by Mark and he was very friendly. I went on a Thursday night and the place got pretty bumpin'...The guys got a little distracted by customers coming in but it was understandable...I was a walk-in but I would suggest making an appointment. Overall I walked out happy and my tattoo healed well.
TIP: TAKE CASH!
I just got a tattoo at Studio City and I love it! Â It might be my very favorite out of all my tattoos. Â Captain Dave drew up the sparrow and within minutes he had me in tha chair. Â He was quick and light handed. Â It hardly hurt! Â The piece is BEAUTIFUL, he really blew me away with his creative talent. Â My calavera sparrow is AMAZING. Â Oh... the guys are real nice too. Â Great customer service. Â And, did I metion the shop is Pirate themed... very cool!
If you are a true tattoo enthusiast, check out Studio City Tattoo. Â If you are a tattoo virgin, loose it at Studio City.
I finally did it. I got a tattoo. Of what you say? It's not the name of a significant other, a fairy, a butterfly, or a tribal band so it's all good.
Anyway, I had been referred to this place by friends who have gotten great work done here in the past. Overall my experience was good. The prices can get high, but you really do get what you pay for. I suggest you make an appointment, or at least call ahead.
I love Studio City Tattoo! Initially I went in to get my nose pierced because a friend of mine had a good vibe about the place, but that was a year, four tattoos, and two piercings ago. I can't imagine finding nicer, more professional guys to do my work, and I consistently get compliments on my tats.
Ask for Todd or Caleb if you can!
Many moons ago a young gal of 21 years finished her very last test for her very last class at her Cal State Northridge College. As she drove home on the 405 heading toward the 101, a little voice chanted DO IT DO IT DO IT!!! in her head and without hesitation and a little bit...okay alot...of adrenaline pumping through her veins she parked her car in front of Studio City Tattoo, went in and was on her back with her pants partially pulled down and getting the visual imprinted on her skin that she had wanted since she was a girl.
It was a butterfly and before you roll your eyes and say, another fricken butterfly tattoo?! How cliche, the girl would like you to hush and listen first :) You see, when she was a little girl, she and her Dad would sit out on the porch and talk for hours. Every now and again a Monarch butterfly would flutter through the breezeway and her Dad would say "Oh look, there's grandma coming to say hi" as his mom had promised him that she would always come back and watch over him as a butterfly.
As she was really close to her Dad and family meant the world to her, she knew that this was the tattoo she needed to get and so a nice gentleman by the name of Randy sketched one up for her and 35 minutes later, she was off. Off like a powerful little butterfly ready to explore this new post collegiate world with a reminder of her roots and family forever close to her.
The end.
