It's been three months since I got my first tattoo and I have to say, I love it!  I was back in town from college for just the day and within a few hours got something unique and exactly what I wanted.  Matt was the guy that tattooed me and I must admit, he is fantastic!  My next tattoo will definitely be done here.  Not to mention, it's the oldest parlor in StL and second in the nation. That is special, and I'm proud to tell everyone where I got my tattoo and I always get complements on it.

This was my first tattoo from Trader Bobs. Many, many years ago I came with friends who were big fans of this place. I came upon this place to date from following some great artists that came from All Star. Another place I have been to and have had good experiences with the work I had done from there. I saw that Omar P. was now at Trader Bob's and decided to follow him there. Heard great things about his work. From the phone call with Trevor and walking in the day before with my ideas speaking with Omar I knew this was a great place. Omar took his time discussing what I wanted and fit me into his schedule the very next day. When I did come in for my tatt, Omar again took his time with drawing up his idea from mine and that showed me he was a real artist and eager to please us both. Great personal attention! The people there we very fun, laid back and friendly. My husband and I were there for 4 hours and they made it very comfortable. Most places are too uptight, loud and can make people feel uncomfortable for being there. This place is the exception!  I loved our time there. Omar has a great "bed side manner" and was very considerate while working on me. He is an amazing tattoo artist!! You  can see that in his work!! I was very very happy! Overall great experience from Trader Bob's! If you are going anywhere else your nuts cause this place has great artists and great, fun, cool people that work there so what else can you ask for?! Omar is the best!

Love this place! I came in on a Friday night and they got me in. I got to have a guest tattooer, he was from Seattle I believe, and my friend also got a tattoo. At first I was skeptical, because when I showed them the parts of the tattoo I wanted ( I wanted my artist to sort of put them all together), I wanted a medium sized, realistic looking tattoo. My artist explained that it would need to take up a good portion of my back for it to look good. he said we could scale it down but it would need to be more of the traditional, cartoonish tattoo. I liked his sketch quite a bit, although when getting the tattoo I didn't know he was going to shade any of it, and he did, but it looked good so no complaints.

The best part was the experience. I recently got a tattoo at iron age and got a great tat but terrible experience. At Trader Bob's my friend and I were able to get tattoo's in the same room, hang out and talk with the artists. It was my friends first tattoo and my 3rd (my other two were small though) and they did not make us feel uncool or poserish for not being covered in ink. I think my friends artist was pepto or something weird, but he was pretty cool too. She had to wait while I got mine and he brought someone else back there to tattoo and it was just really chill, we were all talking and laughing. I think we were there something like 3 hours and I seriously didn't even notice because it was such a good time.

Come here, hang out, get a good tattoo!

Trader Bob's is a great place to get a tattoo!  I took my son to get his first tattoo today for his 18th Birthday.  Did not have an appointment, but got there as soon as it opened.  Good thing too.......within an hour they were booked solid for the entire day.  Carlos, my son's artist, was fantastic!  Not only was it my son's first tattoo, but it was also Carlos' first day working at Trader Bob's!  Way to go Carlos......you did a great job!  My son is already thinking about his next tattoo.
Oh, by the way, I added to my tattoo collection while we were there.  Ren (probably missed spelled your name...sorry man) was my artist. He was great as well.  As a Trader Bob's veteran, Ren made sure everything was perfect during the experience.  Fantastic Job, Ren!
Thanks to Ren and Carlos.........My son will never forget this day!

I've had quite a few of my tattoos done at trader bob's but never thought to review it. I moved to KC a few months ago, and as today is Friday the 13th, I googled to see if any parlors do the same kind of thing TB's does. I found a place called KC Ink, and it looked alright enough, so I went in. I asked about the special and both an artist and the receptionist just kind of stared at me, scoffed, and pointed to a computer-printed sheet of the number 13 in about 20 different fonts. The artist said, "just pick one" and I said "...really?" and walked out. Trader Bob's has a friendlier atmosphere than any other tattoo place I've ever been, let alone this shitstorm of an establishment in KC. Thank you, Trader Bob's for bringing the creativity! And next time we have a Friday the 13th, I am taking off work and road tripping to get another tattoo!

Rolled up to this place on a monday and thought maybe they'd had room for a walk in... nope... but they got me an appointment for tuesday!  I explained I was only in town for a few days and they were stoked that I chose their shop.

Great people, and if I am ever have in STL again - I'll be back.

Decently priced, rad people, and super great art.
Come here on Fri the 13th and get a $13 (plus $7 tip) tattoo.

NO ONE DOES IT BETTER, FLAT OUT!

-haven't had a piercer for a while and they have gone up on prices since the past year. still more reasonably priced than most shops.

These guys are great.  First tattoo and they were very accommodating. Basically walked in, they listened, got the design going and went to work.  Very friendly and willing to explain things, plus the shop is both charmingly shabby and sterile/clean feeling at the same time.  I was very comfortable there - felt like people know what they're doing and respect the culture and take pride in the work.

This place rocks!  I've had a few different pieces done by 3 different artists---they are all great! Am currently getting larger piece from Alan Thompson.
Fantastic work from Alan (none better in the midwest) and he has great vibe & conversation.
    A+++++++++++

Getting a tattoo, well, you're either going to be intimidated by the staff with their "hardcore ink" and feel like a poser.

Or, you're going to say "you know what, I don't give a shit that I'm not getting a full sleeve of flaming skulls and naked chicks.  This is about me.  Suck my balls."

At Trader Bob's, I expected to have the emotional outburst of the latter.  But I didn't.  Why?

Because they're cool.  And nice.  And they can laugh and understand that there are people out there that don't contemplate their next tattoo like they're the Dalai Lama trying to achieve Nirvana.  For some of us, we just randomly say to the spouse "write something on a piece of paper so I can have it inked on me."

So thanks Rob - you're cool, you're understanding, and you did a great job.  I'm happy and I'll be back.

Why this isn't the hottest tattoo shop on Yelp is ridiculous. Trader Bob's (and All-star, owned by the same people I do believe) does great work.  I have zero complaints about my tattoo and experience:)

    My Advice:
Go to Trader Bob's or All-Star...not: Iron Age, Diablo Ink, Full Spectrum(2)
"Those who know go to Joe"

Trader Bob's is actually the longest running tattoo parlor in the country (not at the same location though).  Also, it's the only place in town that I will get a tattoo.

My work is beautiful and I always have folks asking to recommend a spot, and this is it!  They specialize in traditional work, although it all has a contemporary feel to it.  But these guys can do just about anything--they're great artists.  TB's color work is unbelievable--my 5 year old tattoo still looks good as new.

The space is clean and attractive, and their employees are hilarious and welcoming.  Joe always does my work, although I am looking forward to get a piece from Ahmed soon.

And ask them about stupid tattoo stories, they have quit a few.

This is the oldest tattoo shop in St. Louis!  If you know Al Thompson, you know what quality work is coming out of this shop!! Great artists, great work!!!

They will customize your tattoo or you can choose from their flash.

Quality work and you can even find them on MySpace to view their pics and the artists work at
