I had my tattoo done there totally on a whim while on a vacation with my husband and kids. I'd had a version of what I wanted in my mind for years, but I am no artist. I described my scene to Norm who turned it over to Matt. The piece that Matt came up with blew my mind. Never in a million years, could I put my description in such detail. The problem was that his art, ended up being quite a bit bigger than I had in mind. (Did I say that this was my FIRST tattoo?) I admit that I was not the easiest person to draw for! After a few re-dos (and, admittedly, cutting some of his cooler things out of the design for the sake of size and placement) it was the perfect size and perfect tattoo. Matt did an amazing job! I have wanted this tattoo for so long and cannot imagine that anyone else could have come up with something so perfect me. Being that this was my first tattoo, and I have no other experience with them, I have no clue if I charged appropriately- however, I'm thrilled with the work and would rather love something I may or may not have paid too much for than underpay for something that looks like crap. I will be going back.
Review Source:I bought a Groupon as a gift for my boyfriend and he took in his own idea of his tattoo. It wasn't extremely detailed or elaborate and not even that big, yet he was charged $350. In my opinion as someone who has several tattoos, ranging from so-so work I had done on impulse to extremely good work from one of the best artists in Houston, his tattoo ended up good but not great and EXTREMELY OVER-PRICED. It was small to me for what was charged, it was literally done in one hour, so of course there really wasn't any time taken to ensure good detail and excellent line work. Also there's a lot of unnecessary black outlines, which to me just indicate either inexperience or unwillingness to put in the shading work, and the lines themselves aren't even perfect. There's obvious shakiness in some areas.
I WISH I had gone in with my boyfriend the first time when he agreed on the price, because there's no way in hell it's worth that much money. I honestly think the prices were raised to make up for the loss in the Groupon discount. If you don't want to give discounts then just DON'T give out discounts.
My boyfriend and I went in to get different pieces. We walked in when the shop was being somewhat remodeled and Norm took time away from that to consult with us. He was able to understand my boyfriends vision (which in my opinion was not easy) and arrange things in a way that would look awesome and make sense. He took both of our ideas and ran with it and so far has done an amazing job. They work as a team there and I can really appreciate that. I would definitely recommend any one there. I never felt uncomfortable once like I have at plenty of other tattoo shops. I'll be going back soon
Review Source:Great shop! Got two tattoos done last month by Tonee and he did a great job! Norm, Matt and Tonee work together to make the friendliest shop I've ever been to and all do great work. I would recommend any of them to everyone wanting good work for a fair price and an enjoyable experience. I am newer to town, but have found my shop and can't wait to get more work done.
Review Source:Awesome shop! The atmosphere was very relaxing  and comfortable. It didn't feel like a dirty place, which in my experience most tattoo shops do. Which is why I never committed to sitting in the chair. There wasn't any flash on the wall, which took me by suprise. Also, their tattoo guns are so quiet you hardly hear them working. I liked that there were individual rooms set up for each person as well. Norm made me feel at ease and explained the entire process to me in such a way that was helpful, not demeaning. He did "are you doing OK?" checks several times which made me feel better. The lines and shading on my tattoo are just as I hoped. I am certainly planning on going back again and would definitely recommend them to anyone!
Review Source:Went to the Wicked Ways shop on Saturday, 10/20 for an appointment with Norm, the owner. My design was ready when I got there, and was just what I wanted (and more).
All the guys there (Matt, Tonee and Norm) are very professional, and the whole shop is very sanitary and immaculately clean!
Norm took the time to make sure I was happy with the design and the placement, as well as color -- and it was a great expierence! I'm already in talks to get my next tattoos done there!
If you are looking to get a great tattoo -- give Norm and the guys at Wicked Ways a call, you will not be disappointed!!
Professionalism at it's finest. I walked into the shop and was amazed to see the pride and care they take in creating all of the art. Norm takes time with you to make sure you are getting exactly what you want. During the outline of my tattoo my skin was sensitive and not cooperating. Norm suggested we do the tattoo in a few sessions to give my skin a break and heal. He took the time to make sure it came out right. If you are are considering a tattoo you need to go see Norm and the crew at Wicked Ways. You won't be disappointed, I'm already planning my next tattoo.
Review Source:I went to Wicked Ways Tattoos because I had a Living Social voucher and there was a simple design (a line drawing illustration from a book) and based on the single review I read I didn't really think there was any way they could mess it up. i was wrong. The shop is very pretty, clean, and well-designed, but the owner and artist are not particularly friendly and their prices are sky-high. Matt, the artist, was bored by the design I wanted (i suppose it was too simple) and didn't really make any attempt to hide that. He actually referred to it as "clip art" at one point, which is probably when I should have just told him to stop and left, and cut my losses. Long story short, he wanted to do what HE wanted, rather than what I wanted, and was argumentative. he refused to mix colors to get the shades I wanted (all the options he offered were far too dark and would have compromised the design). Additionally, a large section of the piece was supposed to be done as a series of vertical lines, with cross-hatching, and he just made the entire section solid black with one small streak uncolored. very sloppy work, and he was working from a stencil, so there was no excuse for not following the design, Additionally, he overworked my skin in that section, so I have two areas with color loss and raised scar tissue in that part of the design- those spots took FOREVER to heal and kept oozing.. Also, the minor detailing involved was sloppy. I also experienced color loss in the few sections that I DID have him use color on, and the colors were not what i requested. I had a much more involved piece done by Laraine at Element Tattoo awhile back and had ZERO problems; it was perfect. So now I have to go have the piece done at Wicked Ways corrected SOMEWHERE ELSE (to the extent it CAN be as scar tissue does not take ink very well) and have the coloring finished and re-shaded as well. i would NOT recommend going here unless you're willing to let the artist do whatever he wants, as otherwise he will be bored and do a crappy job, AND overcharge you for it. The only thing that he did correctly was the placement of the tattoo. he didn't even bother to give me aftercare instructions, which should ALWAYS be protocol no matter how much work you've had done previously.
Review Source:Walking into Wicked Ways Tattoos, the first thing you noticed is the beautifully designed spa-atmosphere. Second, there is no "flash art" on the walls. This is because Norm, the owner, and Matt, tattoo artist, only do custom work. They are both phenomenal artists in their own right. I had Matt design a back piece for me - a rather large dragon with flowers. It took multiple sessions, and his choice of color, design and movement of the piece is nothing short of amazing. Â The toughest decision is deciding what to do next. For anyone looking for a truly unique pice of artwork they'll carry with them forever, I would highly recommend visiting Norm or Matt. Skip the trip to Austin.
