I've been going to 717 Tattoo for four years now; I got my first facial piercing and tattoo there and recently got an amazing scar done by Rev, one of the piercers at the Jonestown location. Truly, no other establishment in the area compares. They are always friendly and accomodating, even at their busiest, their prices are fair, their shop is clean and inviting, and I've never been disappointed by anything I've gotten done. I'm getting a tattoo soon by one of their artists, Rob, and he estimated it at $600! I was shocked, it was such a deal.
As if all that wasn't enough, there are a million ways to be involved in their growing community besides getting work done, like contests, deals, seasonal events and just plain falling in love with all the staff-- they're all wonderful!
If you want to make sure you're getting the most quality for the best price, definitely go to 717 first, they always come through.

Looking up tattoo shops in Harrisburg, this was always the first one that popped up and always intrigued me the most. On first glance - all the artists have great portfolios, their website is well organized and informative, and the shop is clean and nice. Overall, I couldn't be disappointed with that.
I chose to go in to schedule an appointment - I was pretty open to whomever doing the tattoo I wanted simply because there wasn't a single person there whose work wasn't impressive. I ended up scheduling with Brad for a Thursday evening after work.
The experience was nice. Everyone there is nice (I can't be sure, but I'm fairly awkward myself, so if people are nice to me, I generally just think they are nice because I'm not overly bubbly or out going) and the place is comfortable. The tattoo was done perfectly and I left happy.
More importantly, the next day when a friend mentioned a mistake she thought she saw (thought a photo, I really don't know anyone here, at least not well enough to go parading a tattoo to) and I panicked (with a tattoo on your back, not only is it hard to see, but you can't really read anything) Brad was happy to basically console my insanity and take a photo for me. Which was really nice and something he definitely didn't have to do as I was just being completely and utterly wacky. There was nothing wrong. At all. It was perfect. I am nuts. Let me reiterate. I am insane, the tattoo is amazing.
Overall, a great experience. Everything was clean and well done and I felt it was fairly priced. Then again, I'm not one to mess with someone putting something permanent on my body - same principle as don't mess with people who make your food. I'd definitely go back here in the future.
I had an appointment in November 2010 with Brad for an inside forearm tattoo of a pink daisy to commemorate the birth of my daughter. He drew the stencil exactly how I wanted it to be and the finished product came out better than I could have imagined. Even now, almost 7 months later the colors are extremely vivid and I get compliments on it all of the time. I have 4 different tattoos on my body and this one is the one that gets noticed, every time. I cannot wait to be able to book another appointment and have the staff of 717 help me "look better naked" as that is their tagline.
