Yes. I am a virgin. And Joann was going to
change all that today. 032913.
She listens to what you want using her heart .
She is definitely a talented artist I'm familiar with
especially since i know the numerous people
she has worked on including my ex.
I came in with an idea of what I wanted.
But nothing on paper.
She sketched a few things on paper. And
next thing I knew , there it was. That's mine. Â
Indefinitely. Â
A little over the non stop two hours later and
a few cry outs of pain n laughter...yes ticklish
spots u know;-) Her masterpiece was done and
it was all mine to keep.
Amazing.
Beautiful.
Joann ROCKS!
And Yey for this is my 400th review
Just got my first ever tattoo and this place did an excellent job! Jay was my tattoo artist and he was very nice and informative about making sure that I like what I want before he starts inking the tattoo onto my skin. He provided a sketch on my skin and asked me if I'm sure that this is what I want. My friends recommended other tattoo places closer to my area but I've decided to trust yelpers for this place and I am so glad that I did. I will for sure recommend Hollywood Tattoo Studio to my friends and family!
Review Source:Very tiny place, kind of dumpy looking place but sterile, the guy who did my tattoo did an amazing job, and it was so darn cheap compare to all the other places wanted to charge. I was expecting to spend over $300 on my tattoo and it only cost me $120, there a tat shop I went to when I turned 18 down the street from them, it was tiny simple tattoo and they charged $80, so Hollywood Tattoo is really well priced!
Review Source:I've heard pretty good things about this studio and I've been dying for a tattoo for awhile now. So, I decided to check this place out. No regrets at all. I brought in the image of what I wanted and Jay did an amazing job with it. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants their tattoos looking great.
Review Source:Always hear good things about this studio and the two artists here have been at this job for almost their entire lives. Their shop has been here the longest and Jay and Joanna are both very experienced. Joanna is also an amazing free-handed tattoo artist. Their tattoos come out looking great and they ALWAYS draw your design on first and ask you if you want any adjustments. For being as experienced as Jay and and Joanna are, they'll always try to think of the better alternative for you and what looks better and what doesn't. It's always nice to know that they have their customers in mind since they are working on something that will permanently be on our skin.
I would only go to them and allow them to work on me. THUMBS UP!
If I could, I would give this tattoo shop -5 stars. Jay did my tattoo, which was awful. When I walked in I asked him how long he had been working as tattoo artist, 45 years. I then asked if the work on the walls (which was good) was his, he said yes. I wanted a simple heart on my wrist. Not hard to mess up, right? Well, wrong. Someone who has been tattooing for 45 years should be able to draw a heart. It is not symmetrical, nor is it filled in. When I called to complain, he told me, "You didn't say you wanted the heart symmetrical." Really?! My eleven year old sister could have done a better job.
The good reviews on the shop are for his SISTER Joanna. Her work is on the walls, not his. I was liked to and robbed and will never recommend or go to that shop again.
Good day.
First of all, if your going to come here for a tattoo, you have to use JOANNA....her expertise is not in little butterflies, or cartoon characters..for that, go to somebody else. Â BUT if your looking for an AWESOME dragon, she is the person to go to. Â The bigger the better. Â btw, she freestyles the drawings which not too many artists can do.
Review Source:I the tattoo artist (I don't know if I could call him an artist) a picture of a bird and not only did he turn it into an undetailed cartoon, he made several mistakes (that he made look so much worse when he tried to fix) and gave the bird a beerbelly. He blamed me for not explaining better, but really he just didn't speak English or ask me any questions. He obviously is just an average artist. I now have to get this thing fixed, if I the mess he put on my skin even can be fixed! I would give him zero stars if I could.
Review Source:I was referred here by a friend who has gotten tattoos done here. Â I went with high expectations. Â I heard that Joanne was a great artist, so I went in with a very specific vision of what I wanted. Â All she needed to show me was her selection of fonts. Â
I already had a couple of tattoos at this point done at a different tattoo parlor, so I wasn't a newbie. Â I've gotten more tattoos since, but the one I had done here is the only one I regret.
I've been drawing as far back as I can remember, studied art throughout high school, and was a design major. Â I think I know a thing or two about good artwork, and good tattoo workmanship. Â I gave very specific directions about what I wanted, but Joanne kept arguing with me about how it should be drawn. Â In frustration, I gave her the benefit of the doubt and let her do certain parts the way she wanted. Â I chose a font from her book and asked her to alter it to make it less 'gangster.' Â She said she understood. Â
I left the place disappointed, and I wasn't willing to pay extra for her to improve it. Â My tattoo looks gangster. Â It's smeared. Â Points are thick and dull. Â Numerous unfilled areas.
I guess I only have myself to blame. Â You get what you pay for. Â I should've been steadfast, and not let her influence my vision. Â And my friend did tell me that she was great with freelancing specifically DRAGONS. Â I don't doubt that she's a great artist. Â But every artist has their specialty. Â What I wanted wasn't hers. Â But I don't know how to explain the poor needle workmanship.
This place is the bomb...  joanne  she is the best... don't listen to others who said she sucks... she is well known in every community as number one....  believe me ....  she also free hands too...  tell me someone who can free hand...  not that many...  only think i can say is that she is the best of the best.. fuck the rest....
Review Source:1: She comes up with some bullcrap story how her other line of family line use to tattoo. We met her family. They do not tattoo at all, except Joanna and her brother!
2: Her shading of work is really weak. Instead of being light TO dark, it's light AND dark. Her shading are all scratchy and it's horrible.
3: The reason why she wants to make the tattoo bigger is because she's more comfortable doing it! She doens't like to do small tattoo with alot of details because its a challenge for her. So she brings up offering you a bigger one. "Bigger has more details" Uhh... its only shading
4: She doesn't take her time on her artwork. She wants to finish a tattoo in one sitting so she can get it over with. You can actually see from start to finish how it was pretty good then bad! She has no patience!
I rather pay MORE to get it done by a tattooist who is actually worth it. She charged 350 for the whole short sleeve arm tattoo. It's cheap, but artwork isnt worth it!
I shopped around prior to getting my first tatt, and I must say Joanna is the best. The absolute best. I have 3 tattoos by her, and all of my friends also went to her. She can freehand a dragon in 5 minutes, and it is the most detailed, perfect dragon ever. She is the third+ generation in her family to do tatts, and it shows. She also does absolutely fabulous cover-ups, I went with someone and she transformed the shoddy tatt to an amazing masterpiece. I am going back there soon to obtain my 4th, and am so excited. The location looks like a dingy small studio, but they are clean, professional, and safe. She has also done several celebs including the lead singer of Sublime (such as the tattoo that was the albumcover of their self-titled album). Price is fairly reasonable, especially if you are a return customer or come in a duo or group. She only works certain days, so call ahead to schedule. Oh, and she is pretty quick, but still does detailed work. One word of warning, is that she is big on detail, so sometimes she will try to talk you into having your ink bigger so she can get more detail in. If you are adamant about keeping it a certain size, she will oblige. For any ink, I would only trust my body in Joanna's hands!
