My boyfriend won't write this so I will.
DO NOT GO TO CHRIS.
We go in for a drop in around 9 pm at night, no one is there. Whatever. Luckily a woman working in a nearby shop is taking her trash out and says that they are probably getting food. We wait. Chris comes meandering back, and can't take my boyfriend that night. No problem there, we expected that. We set up an appointment for the following day.
We get there just on time, and NO ONE IS IN THE SHOP AGAIN! It's locked, lights out. We call the front desk twice, hang around for ten minutes and are about to leave when Chris comes and unlocks the door. He was "going to the bathroom".
So we go inside and he tells us to wait while he sets up shop. This takes about 30 minutes. Shouldn't you do that BEFORE you have an appointment? By this time is is 12:40 and our appointment was at 12:00. We are the only ones in the shop btw. I have looked at every tattoo on the while twice by now.
He finally comes back out and asks what my boyfriend wants. Boyfriend already has it sketched but explains that he wants it a certain size, so the guy goes and draws it. Takes forever, but I get that those things can take a while. Comes back, has drawn it too big, so boyfriend asks him to draw it smaller. He's kind of grouchy about that. Quotes something outlandish, I am taken aback, but my it's my boyfriend's first tattoo and he figures he can talk to him after. He just didn't want to keep pissing off Mr. Sensitive.
Finally comes back again and all is good with the drawing, so he lets us go sit in the chair while he goes and TAKES A SMOKE BREAK. The appointment was at 12:00, it's now probably 1:20.
He comes back and tattoos my boyfriend, doesn't speak the entire time. Doesn't ask him how it feels, if he is okay, nothing. I try to make small talk or joke around 1 or 2 times but he's straight faced.
To put it in perspective, the tattoo is a five pointed star (not filled) inside of a two circles (also not filled in) with one tiny symbol (smaller than my pinky nail) between each of the star's points. It's about the size of an apple. It took him 40 minutes, (which it should) to tattoo and he wanted $120 for it. His best friend went to the same shop, but Liz tattooed him, for half the price (even though the tattoo was about 1.5 times as big, shaded, and colored). Basically 5 straight lines, 2 circles, and 5 small symbols.
The website says the hourly rate is $60/hour and I brought this up and he mumbles something about "straight lines being hard to do" and "that was a different artist's hourly rate". Bullshit. It would say that on the website if they all have hourly rates that are different because each artist has their own page. But there was nothing we could do.
I really doubt your hourly rate or store minimum is $120/hr, unless you were charging us while you took your smoke break? Unprofessional and just plain rude.
And my boyfriend STILL tipped him.
CHRIS:
- rude
- dismissive
- rips you off
- unwelcoming
- late
- lies
Go to Liz.
Wonderful shop! All of my tattoos were done by Liz and I WILL be going back in the future. Most importantly, they are extremely clean and really seem to make that a priority. Everything in the shop is well-done, included the framing and hanging of artwork on the walls and all the signs inside and out.
Liz did tattoos on four of us in the same day, and they were fantastic. Each was personalized in little ways that left us with pieces that go together but aren't the exact same thing. She is fantastic about adding little touches that no one else thinks of (Does your pin-up tattoo have toenail polish on? Didn't think so!).
Over-all, everyone there is awesome and so is the shop itself.
Came to Relentless for my first tattoo and couldn't be more pleased. Liz was amazing, accommodating, extremely professional and polite. The shop is super clean and comfortable. My sister, aunt and I all came in together and Liz drew the perfect tattoo for each of us. I would recommend this shop to anyone, and frankly I can't wait to visit again!!!
