I never thought I would but here I am, getting a sleeve.

I hit up Lucky Olelo last year, telling him I was interested but at the time I wasn't sure what I wanted. When I came across an illustration from an artist in Okinawa by the name of ONEQ who specialized in Japanese-American pin-up styles, I knew this was the one.

I knew it was going to be weird to ask Lucky to tattoo it on me because all his work is original. I felt like this style was up his alley and I hoped that he would like the illustration enough to tattoo it on me.

Good news, he didn't get diva on me and he loved the piece. He had to do a lot of altering because the illustration was huge for my arm (that felt like a compliment) and he changed a few things here and there. I finally booked my appointment ($50 deposit to hold your appt) and started my first session in July.

I sat for about 4-5 hours with 15 mins. breaks here and there. All the artists in Soul Signature are very friendly and it feels like a big family in there.

When he was done with the first session, I was more than happy with how he interpreted it.

Nowadays I get a lot of compliments for it because it's very unique and different :)

Can't wait for the final final outcome!

Was going to vacation with the family on Oahu and I decided to find someone to do a tapping tattoo.  Inevitably, and most fortunately, found my way to Soul Signature.  I arranged all the details over email with Monika, who was a pleasure to deal with, and dates were set for the consult and the tattoo.
The shop was easy to find and the consult with Aisea went well.  He is an amazing person and it was an absolute pleasure to meet him.
I am very pleased with the results and the more we spoke the more I realized that he is really trying to preserve the traditions and soul of his people.

Good vibe!  Great staff. Nothing like getting tattooed for 4 hours on the chest. These guys made me feel right at home. I'd recommend them to my mom!  Great work Lopeti (straight up Michelangelo'd it) true artist. Ill remember it as long as I have Chinese sausages... One love bruddah!

Let me just start by saying that my tattoo turned out beautifully, however the lack of professionalism and organization of this shop has left a really bad taste in my mouth. I could not in good conscience recommend it to anyone based on my experience.
A month before my trip to Oahu, I emailed the shop asking about booking appointments. I gave them the dates we would be in town (Tuesday to Sunday) and the style of tattoos we were looking for. Monika answered me back quickly and professionally, asking me which artists I liked and for a little more info. We set up an appt for the Saturday of my trip with Lopeti and I also arranged an apt for my husband on the same day and time with another artist. Then I paid for a money order as a deposit to hold both of our appointments and I paid to mail it to them with a tracking number (just incase.)
Monika emailed me to ask if we could come in on Monday for a consultation. I emailed her back to explain that we only arrived on Tuesday (as I had previously told her) on but we could come right from the airport to consult so she gave us both 4pm consultation appts on Tuesday.
2 weeks before the appt I get an e-mail from Monika confirming that she has received our deposits and can we come in for a consultation appt on Monday?  I emailed her back explaining again that we only arrive on Oahu on Tuesday and that I had booked the rest of our outings around our tattoo and consult appts so could we keep our original Tuesday consultations? To which she responded yes, it was her mistake and we were still good for Tuesday at 4
Several days before leaving for Oahu I get a call from Monika asking if there was any way I could change my tattoo appt from Saturday to Friday night but if not it was okay. I explained that I was ok to switch provided my husband's artist was also willing to switch his appointment to Friday. I explained that we were staying almost an hour away from the shop and we didn't really want to spend 2 of our 5 days on Oahu getting tattooed. After checking she said we would just leave the tattoos both for Saturday.
On Tuesday, my husband's artist Kyle was ready for him and they spent a good 30 minutes consulting for his tattoo.  As I was waiting for my artist, Monika told me that Lopeti had asked her to see if I could change my tattoo appointment from Saturday to Friday night, but if not, it was okay. I again explained the same thing I had explained previously. I told her we could also come in on Sunday before our flight if that was an option. She then went to see the artists and came back saying we would just leave things the way they were for Saturday.
My artist Lopeti was running behind on his tattoo so he asked Monika to get most of the details from me. She explained that he would talk to me more in depth the day of the tattoo as Polynesian style tattoos are always custom and drawn on the client. Lopeti finally took almost an entire 3 minutes to "consult" with me, while tattooing another client. I showed him a few of the styles I liked from his portfolio and he made a few suggestions to me that I didn't like but I figured we would figure it out the day of the tattoo.
On Saturday we showed up for our tattoos and as my husband is getting set up with Kyle, another artist informs me that Lopeti would be arriving late. When I ask how late he says about 30 minutes. An hour passes and all 3 artists working assure me that Lopeti is on his way. After sitting and waiting for over 4 hours, one of the other artists Euguene finished his client and offered to do my tattoo. Now, I am not an idiot. After sitting in the open shop and hanging out all day with the other artists I know that Lopeti never planned on showing up. While all 3 other artists working were really nice, professional  guys, and Lopeti not showing up was not their fault I really did not appreciate being lied to. I also didn't appreciate being told that if I couldn't change my appointment "it was okay" if it actually wasn't! Now in the end, Euguene did a fantastic job, I was impressed with him not only as a tattoo artist but as a person and I am happy to have a piece of him on me forever. He really went the extra mile, staying after the shop was closed to make sure I got my tattoo despite having a 2  1/2 week baby at home waiting for him. Chances are I would have really regretted being tattooed by someone like Lopeti, especially since while we were there another girl came in who had been tattooed by him earlier in the week and he had messed up her tattoo. The point of the matter is this however, I had waited over 6 years to get this tattoo, I picked Lopeti to do it, I made an appointment well in advance, I made the effort (and the cost) of making a deposit by money order as requested and I booked my entire trip around this tattoo appointment to be treated like a piece of crap. Had I originally made my appointment with Eugene maybe this experience would have been different.

I have been meaning to get a tattoo for years and since this idea was both meaningful to me and not to mention permanent, I wanted it done right. After doing a serious bit of research, I came to Lopeti and Soul Signature Tattoo.

Lopeti is an AMAZING artist, does excellent work and knows his craft. The session was practically over before I knew it and I came away with a piece that I absolutely love and look forward to adding on to soon.

If you are looking for someone else's ink on your body, in other words "So and so's tattoo," do not come here. Each piece is (as it should be) unique to the individual who wears it. The ink tells a story, your story. Hence a Soul Signature Tattoo.

Big ups to Lopeti, Monika, Aisea and crew. I will be back soon!

Professional, friendly and great work to boot!  My husband & I decided to get tattoos (not matching.. that would be silly) while on vacation in Oahu.  We both got uniquely individual tattoos custom drawn just for us.  I got a tribal style seahorse & he got tribal style work added to his existing arm piece.  Very happy with the whole experience.  We even got to see some tapping work being done on another client while we were there which was amazing.  Go.  You won't be dissapointed!

This place is awesome!  Very easy to find on Kapiolani right across the 24 Hour Fitness Center and next Femme Nu Night Club!  I love the vibe here and all the artists here are all awesome!  They make you feel like family here and I just love all the artwork that is hanging in this shop.  This place is very clean and professional.

I got my first tattoo here on December 18th and I could not be happier.  I had booked a tapping session with Aisea over a month in advance and it was well worth the wait.  This might not be the studio for you if you are looking for flash or trendy tattoos, but if you are looking for a piece of art with soul, this is it.  Aisea is hands down the best artist I have seen at traditional Tongan or tribal work.  If you are serious about wearing art that deserves the honor and respect of a cultural tradition that is rapidly being forgotten, I can't recommend a tapping session with Aisea strongly enough.  Not to mention, his work looks absolutely bad ass.

Probably one of the coolest tattoo shops I've been to. I did a lot of research before we went, as we talked about getting tattoos. This place had great reviews from all over, so picked it.

We weren't sure when we were going to do them, so didn't book an appt and took a chance. We walked in mid afternoon, and there was just people hanging out, super laid back. The assistant girl came over and talked to us about what we wanted and she set us up with Tin. He drew the design and we were getting tattoos within 15 minutes.

Tin was an a awesome guy, the design is super cool and meaningful. And we actually ended up meeting some of the other artists and spending most of the day with them.

As well, their friend just started a food truck called the Taco Kabana. It should be up and running October 1st and looks super awesome. Legit Mexican food. I hoep to stay in touch with everyone and will go back for sure.

Stopped in to talk about a tattoo. I had been thinking of getting a pink gecko for years and decided to finally take the plunge. I was greeted well and everyone was very nice. They were pretty booked up, but could get me in with their "featured" artist. He did not speak engllish, AT ALL. I should NOT have decided to trust him with my tattoo. I chose a cute female gecko (eyelashes, heart on the back, cute!) My gecko outline is perfect! But, I had requested a faded pink gecko, it is a solid red. It was suppose to have eyelashes, it does not. It was suppose to have a swirl on its back and a heart. I did not get the swirl, but I did get the heart, you can't really see the heart because it is almost the same color as the gecko. I questioned him about the eyelashes and swirl, he said he could not put those on. Don't you think he should have said that BEFORE the tattoo?

I really hate to complain about this place, because they came so highly recommended. But, next time (there won't be one). I'll go with someone that speaks english! Now, I am stuck for LIFE with a RED gecko! LAME!

Got a last minute tattoo here and couldn't be happier with the results.  Eugene saw me on his day off and was really accommodating with my schedule (had to fly back home the same day - I wouldn't recommend anyone to do this though).  Really knew his stuff when it came to traditional Hawaiian tattoos as well as being a student of art in general.  I gave him just loose guidelines to go by for my tattoo and he nailed it!  I'm  definitely going back next time I visit and am planning to get a half-sleeve!

Stopped by Soul Signature earlier this week during my trip back home and wanted to write a review on the excellent work Kyle did with my first tattoo.

I've been wanting to get a tattoo, but wasn't sure what I wanted to get like most people getting their first tattoo. I knew I wanted something simple, but I wanted it to be meaningful to me as well. My trip back home was getting close to ending & I didn't want to leave without getting my tattoo. I finally decided I wanted my first tattoo to be of the Hawaiian islands. Got it placed close to my heart because I value it to be my true home & because I have made memories w/ friends & family that are irreplaceable. Gave Soul Signature a call & although they recommend making appointments, they took me in as a walk-in.

After being greeted upon walking in, Kyle was the artist that would be giving me my tattoo. When I described the tattoo I wanted, he immediately recognized me from my call earlier and got everything set up. Kyle was great at easing someone into their first tattoo. His work area was well-kept & he was really easy going. He explained the process of what was going to happen & even recommended what would look best & let me decide from there. Kyle was a great guy to get to know about his line of work & how he first got into being an artist with the Soul Signature family. He is really good at what he does for only having been doing this for 3 years and I'm very pleased with how my tattoo came out. Much mahalo to Kyle & the rest of the Soul Signature family with putting out such great work. Definitely considering getting another tattoo from them during my next visit back home. Thanks again Kyle!

I think it's appropriate I write a review since they are the ones who gave me my first tattoo.

I was always fascinated of 'getting inked' but the idea of a being poke by a needle multiple times scared the poop out of me, but I wanted to do something special on my bday and I wanted to get it at one of the favorite places I love to travel to: HAWAII.

I've researched high and low then I landed on Soul Signature. Based on their online portfolio, I was impressed. I was also glad that they take walk-ins which is a big plus.

Right away as I entered the shop I was already welcomed with a smile and by that, I already feel at ease. They even had BBQ going in the back, since it was Halloween at the time. I spoke with Lomiti and Moana for a consult and told me that they can take me in two hours, enough time for some Teddy's for dinner.

Moana did my tat; intimidating at first because of the tattoo on his face, but a nice guy throughout the process. My tattoo took 25 mins and it cost $100, but then again, they're minimum is $100 and cash only. If u want the head honcho, like Lomiti, you gotta make an appointment.

I was given after-care instructions, which was good, but I did more after- care research on my own via the Internet and also from my other friends who got tattoos too. After two weeks, once the redness and flaking has gone away, I was very satisfied with the finish product. Thank you Soul Signature; you'll always be remembered whenever I look in my back :)

    Pros

+ 3 of my family members visiting from Vancouver got tattoos here in the span of 2 days. It's the 15-year-old nephew's first tattoo. The next day his mom decided to get one as well. It became a family bonding experience and a ritual signifying the boy becoming a man.
+ Eugene did all 3. He is very professional. He put you to ease and explained the process clearly for the boy. Overall a very good vibe about him. He did a great job with all 3 tattoos. The uncle said he is coming back in a few weeks to have another tattoo done by Eugene.
+ We brought our own designs on print-outs and Eugene drew it on the skin first to make sure you like it before starting the work. They also have several books with unique artwork for you to choose from.
+ The place is very clean and spacious and well-lit. Not seedy like some of the other tattoo parlors.
+ When the nephew was getting his tattoo, there was another 17-year girl, accompanied by her mom and aunt, getting her first tattoo. Of course we were all recording the event with cameras. It was almost sacred.
+ All tattoo artists here are very laid-back and friendly. All good artists with great energy, which I heard is very important for someone who's going to put something permanent on your skin.
+ Good location, across the street from 24 hours fitness on Kapiolani.

    Cons

    - Limited parking. So either street parking or use the pay lot. Street parking can be hard to find in the evening.
    - Cash only. Minimum $100 per tattoo. The more elaborate ones will be more expensive.

Heard so much good things about this place so I went there to get my very first tatt. I originally wanted lopeti to do it but got passed down to Kujo. He seemed cool so I just went with it. He gave me a small discount so I tipped him out good. He then said to come back for a touch up if I need it. After the scab came off it was obvious that he missed some areas. I called him and he said I would have to pay $50. That the ink came off with the scab. Come on!!! Bullshit. He just never went over that part. What a shity tattoo artist. I will never go there again and def won't recommend anyone to go there.

I get Tattooed at Black Cat Tattoo Studio in chinatown, but ive heard nothin but great things about Mandy Garcia. Shes a very Friendly and humble person from the looks of the emails we exchanged about getting tattooed by her.I had a buddy who also gets tattooed by Richie Lucero at Black Cat who got a tattoo by her and it was incredible. Id only get tattooed by Richie and Her,  So obviously Id atleast recommend her. Ive seen good work at this place. This and Black Cat is probably two of the best if not the best in hawaii.

I had heard GREAT things about this tattoo shop, but it's looking more and more like the great things were more a credit to Mandy Garcia. I had a horrible experience with the shop itself. I talked to an artist about a tattoo on my forearm and gave very specific details about how I wanted it to look. Several emails later, all that was accomplished was a bunch of roadblocks he'd thrown up about not being able to accomplish such an "impossible" tattoo. I am still at a loss as to what was so impossible about it. He straight up, to my face, refused to even TRY to draw a tattoo even resembling what I wanted. He was calling the shots about what my tattoo should and shouldn't look like even though it was my tattoo and my body. Even the receptionist was unprofessional and was consistently rude and condescending on the phone and in person. I give this business a ZERO for customer service and a ZERO in originality.

I've been wanting to get some work done since for 2+ years. spent some time researching and reading about tattoo studios on the island. just look at luckys work and you can see the difference in quality.

being born and raised in hawaii, i promised myself i would get my first tattoo done in my home state. i go to school in cali so im only back for a month in the winter and 3 for the summer. i've always had bills to pay and a few times i came in and talked to lucky but the timing never worked out.

i went in a little while ago and we finally set up an appointment and got some ink in. the crew @ soul sig seems super busy.. dont take it personally if they dont call you back, you want the tattoo.. you follow up and keep in touch.

asian inspired piece. koi fish with japanese wave pattern and cherry blossoms on my left shoulder going down until above my elbow. PM FOR PICS. lucky and everyone else in the shop is cool as hell, down to earth, and funny. first session down, one more to go. just dont be a douche and its all g..

clean, friendly, funny, excellent work, plus would you really want to go to a tattoo studio that had a 2/5?

you can check luckys work out @

I've been wanting to get a tattoo for a long time, and I've been searching for someone who could do it right for years.  Then I found Mandy.  I came in with what I wanted, which was my family crest and it didnt really let her use her creativity as much as I would have liked.  But, she took my design and made it a million times better!  She added details, shading, and all kinds of other stuff that just made it killer!  This being my first tattoo, Mandy was really cool and explained how the whole process worked.  She then spent the next three and a half hours doing the tattoo.  I could not be happier with her work.  The shading and detail are amazing.   Everyone who has seen it has been impressed!  I would highly recommend both the shop and especially Mandy!!!

I am writing my first ever review and I was thinking who can I write that is deserving of 5 stars.  Please keep in mind that I'm a harsh, detailed, but fair critic when it comes to anything customer service related.  Right away, I thought of Suluape Aisea.  If you are looking for a poly/flip tattoo artist Brother Aisea is one of the best in my opinion.  I have known this most down the earth guy since 1998 and besides his evolving art, he truly cares about what you want in your tattoo.  You will not be disappointed.  Please understand that if you have an appointment with him that he will come as soon as possible.  The great artists especially a legend are always in high demand.  Many times they work until the wee hours.  They do not work the typical 9--5 jobs.  Please be patient.  The wait will definitely be worth it...

Friday went in for my second piece of art by Mandy. This new piece is beautiful. It was incredible in so many ways. The concept I had was really just in my head - similar to things I've seen, but not. Mandy took my concept and totally made it hers. It was incredible to watch as she pieced together the art - right there on my arm! As with the beautiful Phoenix she gave me, the peach blossoms and branch far surpass my initial concept and expectations. Mandy is an artist in the purest sense of the word.

The same night my daughter got her second tattoo. She had a picture that she liked, had done a lot of thinking about, yet knew that it needed to be different. Mandy, as I have come to expect, far surpassed my daughter's expectations. The changes Mandy made to the pic were so my daughter. My daughter is THRILLED with her newest piece of art!

Mandy was so kind, personable, and funny! That woman is uber intelligent, and incredibly capable! You won't be disappointed if you choose Mandy to do your art work!

Mandy is truely an awesome artist . She is really talented and knows exactly how to draw up something that your absolutely going to love ! When my mom and I went in for our consult I gave her a few ideas on what kind of geisha i wanted and my mom told her she wanted orchids going over her shoulder but wasn't very specific on what types of orchids. When it was time for my appt. she showed me the drawing and i fell in love with it. My moms appt. was the day after mines and when Mandy showed her the drawing my mom was excited because that was exactly what she wanted .

Mandy is a real sweet heart and knows how to get along with her customers, i felt so comfortable and at home when I went there .. It was like family and she played as my older sister.. My mom and I showed up pretty much every week for our tattoos and grown a friendship with her , and since our tattoos are done with we are truely going to miss her .

Her artwork is totally worth it and she knows EXACTLY what she's doing , i recommend her to all of you ! She will talk story with you and makes sure your okay as the tattooing is going on .

You all will love her (: and i will surely be going to her again !

If you truly want a fine piece of art schedule an appointment with her you will not be disappointed! Her work is detailed and artistic...her interpretations are fantastic.  The colors she chooses are so vibrant!
If you are a great collector of some fine ink like I am...go see Mandy..you will not be disappointed.

If you are looking for a place to get an amazing, very satisfying, crazy [maybe ;)], unique tattoo, you have to go to Soul Signature Tattoos!!! I am recently getting a back piece of a geisha done (still in progress) by Mandy Garcia. Her work is so creative and unique. As a very skillful tattoo artist, she is able to design the work that you will definitely not regret!!!

The people at the shop are also very nice, welcoming, and genuine. Lucky has actually done a sleeve on my boyfriend's arm and it is also amazing work. He did a samurai facing a tiger. They are also working on his other sleeve of two kois and a couple lotus flowers. Very very sick inkage!

Seriously, they are the best!  I totally recommend anyone to go to this place. You will definitely fall in love with them ;)

There comes a time in your life when you start to crave quality.  For me, that happened in my late 20s.  No longer do I really want that medium Big Mac meal when the urge to eat junk food strikes,  now I crave a Kobe beef burger and sweet potato fries.

I will speak mostly for myself, but also in very general terms because a lot of my friends with tattoos will agree:  Most of the tattoos that I would have gotten in my early 20s would have been a lesson in long-term regret.  I didn't really know myself, and I didn't consider the future back then.  The bottom line is:  I would have a lot of really silly stuff all over my body if I'd let myself get inked back then (case in point, this dude I know with "all alone" tattooed on his back.  no, really.).  Also, back then I would have gone somewhere cheaper and far more mediocre.  Thank god I kept my tattooing to a minimum earlier in life.

After a lot of thought, consideration, and research, I decided to have Lucky over at Soul Signature sleeve my right arm.  He's done work for a lot of friends, and his work always stands out.  He specializes in new school tribal and Japanese-style iconography.  His lines, shading, sense of composition, and style are unique enough to be recognizably his, but classic enough to show elements of the original aesthetic that created the styles of tattoing he practices.  I went for a traditional Japanese 3/4 sleeve, with wind bars and a chest plate.  I basically gave Lucky a few themes, some rough design references, and let him do his thing, an artist like Lucky does best when you give him loose guidelines and let him come up with your piece on his own.  I'm several sittings and about 16 hours in, and so far I've been nothing but impressed by the quality of his work.  Even grandma loves it (well she isn't as mad as I thought she'd be).

Soul Signature itself is a comfortable, clean space.  The guys are all characters but in that good, funny kind of way.  Everyone cares about the quality of their work and the ethic I see there really pays off in the kind of ink this shop slings.

When you're ready to have a real piece of art on your body, this is the place to go.  One of the best shops on the island IMO.

So according to my recent review with Humble Beginnings, I said I would soon visit Soul Signature, Oahu, HI. I am extremely satisfied by an old friend Jesico (former HB artist)...he made the time to see me at an early hour, on top of that he sketched a Poly cover up for me. I told him what I wanted to incorporate and he did such an amazing job. You would never really notice that it was a cover up because of all the detail he did within the Poly Arte (I will post a picture). Another old friend Joel Albanez is an amazing artist as well. He is there occasionaly but you'd need to contact him personally. I will soon get inked by him...(I've seen his work from friends here in the mainland, F****N amazing)....Lopeti is another artist at Soul Sig. super chill cat with good local stories to tell. Anyway...if you're in Oahu and want some ink, VISIT THIS SHOP...good local boy hospitality, Good music, Good vibes, and if you're bored after...you're also in between two strip clubs! Visit Jesico he's got skills!...(he's amazingly handsome)...or visit Lopeti for some local boy Poly Tribal! BIG UP...ONE!

I just recently went to their new location on Kapiolani, and I have to say that I was extremely impressed.  I had a piece done by Jessico and was very, very happy with the work that he did.  He listened to what I wanted and got inspiration from an existing tattoo and the piece turned out beautiful.

If you're looking for some hoity toity kind of place that's going to kiss your a*$ and serve you champagne, this is not the tattoo parlor for you.  This place is exactly what a tattoo parlor should be like filled with very talented artists that love what they do and it shows.  The majority of the work that comes out of this shop is custom work, meaning pieces designed just for you, and if you're going to get something permanent, you might as well have it be an original art piece.

I've been to a couple tattoo parlors on the island but this one has definitely turned out to be my favorite.  A few suggestions, call before you go down to the shop (they're artists, they keep weird hours and they could be busy if you just drop in), definitely make an appointment and be clear about what you want with your artist. This shop turns out some sick polynesian tribals and asian art pieces, but they are above all artists so if you have an idea, they will most likely be able to hook  you up.

I love this place.  When I lived in Honolulu, Joel did my amazing shoulder/back piece.  I just told him general location and we sat and talked for a while, he drew on my back while we talked about my life and what is important to me.  It ended up being the most beautiful piece of art.  He is professional, kind, and really laid back.  Above all he is an artist and his expressions are beautiful.

If you want an original piece of neo-Polynesian art, this is the place.  If you want to look at a catalogue and a number, don't go here.
