I came in for a nose piercing last week and I don't think I'll be returning.
Shop was untidy when we came in.
The piercer was high when he pierced me and I generally felt uncomfortable by how he was talking to me.
I did not get any cleaning solution, so he told me I should go and get some Dial soap to create a cleaning solution. He then referred me to a website http://safepiercings.org which specifically said not to use Dial soap......... What?
Originally I wanted to be pierced with a hoop, but unfortunately he said he was out. I was told that I could come in the next WEEK to switch out the stud for a hoop. From my research and from advice from real professional piercers, I know that one needs to wait almost a month to switch. I was also told from that same professional (I went in to another piercing shop with a friend a few days later for her septum.) On top of that, he said my piercing was placed in a spot that may not even allow for a hoop. Sweet.

So, I may have to get it re-pierced and if I do, you can bet it won't be here.

For tattoos, that's another story. I was with a friend who had a wonderful experience but I'm not sure what the artist's name was.
For piercings, go to a PROFESSIONAL.

MIND BLOWN! I would love to personally thank Iron Monk for going above and beyond on my lovely Geisha Tattoo. His attention to detail and constant input was exactly the kind of quality work I could ask for from my Tattoo artist. I have visited his establishment when he was at 4zeroeight Tattoos for 2 previous tattoos and now for my Geisha I visited him at Str8Ink.

I highly recommend people visit his shop and get a Tattoo from him. You will be amazed! Thank you Monk! The details of my Geisha's face are so delicate and soft, along with the beautiful shadows and colors in her robe make everything pop and come to life. People told me the can see her come to life while her dress is gracefully flowing.

I plan on coming back for more fabulous ink and telling all my friends.

This is for Dale. He is the owner of the shop. My husband and I went in to get wedding ring tattoos for our 10 year and Dale did a beautiful Celtic knot band on both of us. He's fun to talk so you feel like you've known him your whole life. He explains everything and has been tattooing for something like 50 years. But when he starts working on you he is focused and a perfectionist. All the things you want him to be. I'm going back to get some other ink I have covered for my birthday. Can't say enough good stuff about Dale.

My husband got a tattoo from here a while back. It was great and we paid a fair price and all, my only complaint is that while he was being tattooed, DALE decided in between a 4 hour session to "eat dinner" with his family and leave him there, bleeding and in pain. A half hour later he tried working on it again but he was so scarred it just kept bleeding. He wouldn't stop smoking either in the shop. I understand he's a busy man but he was way too distracted to be doing his job.

***This review is for Monk***

I'd been wanting to get some ink done for a few months now, and was just waiting for my dude to get the design done. He got most of his ink done by Monk, so naturally, that's where we turned to get our special matching tatts (I know, I know...but they're awesome!).

Our appointment was at 1pm, but Monk wanted to make sure the designs looked right in terms of making sure we wanted things a certain way due to the contours of our bodies. When he saw him tweaking the design, I ended up asking him to arc this, switch that, make this bigger, make that smaller....in short, he ended up working with us on getting the design finalized for almost two hours. He took his time, and never rushed me. So the plan was for my dude and I to get the same tatts, one big one (design/text) and a smaller one that was just text. I was up first, and decided to get the big one done and out of the way.

Location: Left shoulder blade. Now let me preface this by saying that these two tatts were my 7th and 8th time getting inked and I do have a higher tolerance for pain than most people. First tatt took almost 4 hours. Honestly, I could have taken a nap a couple times, I was so relaxed. Dude and I were playing a game and Monk had to stop a couple times because either he or I was laughing too hard that we had to compose ourselves before continuing. He is a funny guy....and you won't be bored while under the gun. He made some suggestions while he was working on me. At this point I was comfortable enough and trusted his expertise. I'm so glad I did. The reddish shading he added came out beautifully and really made the design pop.

Second tatt took about 30 minutes. Three words, right shoulder, nothing special. Except that I had requested a special font and he had to work on the arch design in order to get the cursive letters to look right while going around a tattoo that I previously had. Excellent work.

I'm not sure how much more real estate I have for tattoos since I have a corporate job....but any future work I get done will definitely be done by Monk. I actually had a great time spending the day with Monk at the shop (my tatts took a little less than 5 hours and then dude went next for about the same amount of time). Fortunately since there was two of us there one of us could go get food/snacks while the other was getting worked on. If you are there for the better part of your day and have someone with you - FEED YOUR TATTOO ARTIST! Seriously, Monk took a really short break to eat some tacos that I brought back for us...I felt like he should have taken more time to eat/take a break since he pretty much worked on us both from 1pm til after 11:30pm. That's just craziness. And he was super cool the whole time.

Bottom line. Monk is where its at. Expect that he will want things to be perfect. Expect that this may take a little extra time. Expect excellent quality of work from someone who cares. Make your appointments and expect to leave completely satisfied with your ink!

Five permanent stars!

Called this place to get a finger tattoo as most tattoo artists are hesitant to do work on fingers. Monk referred me to Addison. Wonderful customer service!

After hours of my indecisiveness on the design, my fiance and I got what we wanted on our fingers! Addison is super talented and does such meticulous work. It's super hard to do details on such small space but he was precise! He worked well with us and understood our needs! Tattoos turned out awesome!

Rest of the staff were super friendly as well! Great people! Definitely recommend this place!

Not as much pain as the last one.... I guess you just get use to the pain.... I like it! Though it was a simple tattoo and I do or must say I have heard some shady stuff in regards to "accidentally" misspelling a name on some girl. I doubt I would go to them for any future work. Not Only that but the guy that did my piece doesn't even work there anymore...

I have been to a few shops in and around San Jose and Str*ink is by far the best one I have been too. The shop is relaxed, and fun. The people inside are beyond talented and knowledgeable. They take appts and walk-ins.

I highly recommend Sean. He has done a few of my pieces now and with 22+ yrs experience I wouldn't trust my ink to anyone else! His portfolio will amaze you and he is almost always there, available and RELIABLE. He is fast and has a light touch. He specializes in custom work, portraits, cover-ups, etc. Basically if you can think it , he can draw it!

Kim also did my sister's memorial ribbon. She did a great job and also does piercings.

Stop in and check it out, get a quote. They are by far the most reasonably priced that I have seen.

Came here on a whim one Friday night after having swirls at Aqui's. I had been playing with the idea of starting a half sleeve, & on this night I said FK it just went in there to feel it out. Real chill, nice big spot & everyone was very friendly. Got right in around 930pm and was there until about 1230am. Not done yet, I will update once it's all done.

Sidenote, there is a bar & a liquor store RIGHT next door =)

My friend was getting some work redone here and she knew I was looking for a new piece, so she calls me up and tells me to come down and check it out.
The shop is big, and everyone was super chill...all the artist there were working that's a bonus in my book when the place is busy. This is the kinda place you wanna kick it at even though you're not getting tattooed.. let's just say it's entertaining, all the while still professional.
I decided to go with the shop, Dale the shop owner was like yeah I can getter done tonight. So I was STOKED!
I didn't have to wait for an appt, yay!
I told him what I was interested in and he put his own two bits and it came out even better than I could have imagined... I also was impressed that he was giving me all the details while setting up, I don't know all the little ins and outs about tattooing so it was cool.
His work was precise and I really mean that, it mine as well have been gone over with a fine tooth comb... my piece is simple but tiny and it came out super clean.
I absolutely recommend this place! (OH! And Dale, he hooks it up with candy)
