I am so happy I found this place again! I heard they closed down but they just relocated. I wanted to get a piercing for the longest but was debating where to get it done so I started searching for places & came across a recent Yelp review. When I found the new address I knew it was destined. Scott the owner was very informative about the process & I could tell he knew what he was doing. He was quick & talked me through each step. Needless to say it was an awesome experience & I love my added jewels. Best piercing spot hands down in Sacramento!

I went here to get my nipples pierced, and, as you can imagine.. I was pretty damn nervous. Like, freaking-out-nervous-laughter-and-smiling-for-no-reason nervous. Scott was so professional and did an excellent job of making me feel comfortable with the situation. He reminds me of the Dude from the Big Lebowski.. so chill and laid back.

He was very informed on the proccess and educated me beforehand on what to expect with my new piercings. The actual piercing was close to painless, and he walked me through everything he was doing so there would be no surprises ("a little pinch here, now some pressure..") which was VERY helpful, and inevitably kept me from flinching. Before I knew it, they were done! I must have stood in front of the mirror for 5 minutes checking them out. They look SO AWESOME and I could not be more happy with both the placement and the jewelry he used.

I had read online that nipple piercings are very painful during the healing process, but it's been 5 days and I haven't had any pain or inflammation, except maybe a slight sting right after cleaning them (which I presume is from fiddling around with them). Every piercing at Sub Q comes with an aftercare brochure with detailed cleaning instructions, which has been very helpful.

In short, it was a great experience. I even got a $10 discount, because it was Valentine's day (I mean Thursday) and it must have been obvious that I was a little down in the dumps. I took a friend with me, and as soon as we left we were already contemplating our next piercings to get done by Scott at Sub Q. The man knows what he is doing, and I wouldn't go anywhere else!!

On a whim, I decided it was finally time to get the girls some jewels. I remember sub q from when I was a crazy k street mall teen and he was the first person I called. He was actually the only I called. Scot was unbelievably pleasant over the phone and made sure that I had any and all the info I needed. Originally I called just for pricing but $100 for both seems to be the standard. I told him I was shopping a bit and he showed concern for wanting to be "cheap" and gave me a handful of questions to ask any other shop I call. That was what made me decide to go here. He is extremely knowledgable and friendly and he was awaiting my arrival after we had spoken a few times.

Shop was extremely clean and well organized and the experience was not awkward at all. We joked and laughed a bit and it was time for business. I admit I was a bit nervous but the procedure was so fast! I barely had time to realize how bad it hurt. Which, it really did. It's a dang needle going into my nipple. But he did both so quickly and explained what he was doing as he was. Didn't make me feel vulnerable at all and provided great after care advice!

One thing to note is this address listed is incorrect. He's now at 905 23rd street in midtown suite #2.

All in all. I am SO happy with my new piercings (so is my hubby) and if I have any more piercings I want, he will be the first person I call.

Thank you Scot!! You are not the asshole everyone made you out to be :)

You never know what attitude you'll get from Scot when you come to this place. Sure he's a good piercer, but he's also a dick. I did end up getting two piercings from him on two separate occasions but I would never go back to him.

A few months after getting pierced from him I needed written proof that they used sterile equipment, etc. and he was just flat out rude about it.

I ended up trying to go in to talk to him about it and the shop had vanished. Tried calling and emailing to no avail. Thanks a lot Scot!

There was a quote tattoo I had been wanting for a few years, but I am such a perfectionist and so picky about lettering that I was unsure who to trust with detailed lettering on my forearm.  I also wanting some lettering on my chest too.  I am new to Sacramento and did not know where to get go, so I put up a post on yelp asking for advice.  I was referred to some places like Forever and Royal Peacock, which looked like they have great work, but were pretty expensive.  Many people referred me to Mikey D at Sub Q as well, so I went to check him out.  I found out he was no longer there, but another artist named Irish Jake gave me an estimate which was about half the cost of the other places, way less than half of American Graffitti, which was ridiculously expensive.  At first I was a little skeptical due to the price, but I reviewed his portfolio and some of his other lettering, which all seemed like quality work.  He was very friendly and helpful and offered to do it later that day.  After going to some other places and comparing, I decided that his work was about as good as the places that charges twice as much.  There were a few that seemed slightly better, but the difference was definitely not worth twice the cost, so I decided to give Irish Jake a try.  He made a suggestion as to the placement of one tattoo which ended up being much better than my idea.  I also did not like the original drawing he did for one of the tattoos and he drew up another one the way I wanted it with no complaints.  I also suggested some changes in some of the details of the lettering and he was very kind in taking my suggestions and not being rude or condescending as many tattoo artists are.  The changes he suggested ended up being better and he kindly accepted the changes I suggested.  It was great to be able to feel free to make suggestions without the usual attitude many tattoo artists give you.  He was very understanding and gave the customer service you would expect from somebody who is putting something permanent on you.  I can honestly say I'm probably one of the pickiest people you will ever meet when it comes to tattoos, but I am very satisfied with mine.  I definitely recommend anyone in the Sacramento area looking for a tattoo, to go check out Irish Jake at Sub Q.  I probably checked out half the places in town, and I can tell you it is definitely the best quality you will find in town for a price you can actually afford.  I know how hard it is finding the right tattoo artist, so if anyone wants to see my work or has any questions, feel free to message me.

If I could give this place NO STARS, I would! I've been getting piercings and tattoos since the day I turned 18. (Soooo... 8 years almost. [eeeek! haha]) I have two half sleeves, 7 smaller tattoos, and 21 piercings. NONE of them have EVER been infected, I've never had a keloid, nothing bad as ever happened with ANY of my piercings or tattoos. I recently moved to Sacramento and needed a new piercer. Sub Q is close to my house so I stopped in to check it out. There was no one up front waiting for customers to help. I walked in and made a bunch noise after a while so that someone would realize i was there and come help me. 20 minutes later... Someone comes into one of the tattoo spots and says "oh... did you need something?" UH DUH! I said "oh, I was just interested in how much your nose piercings cost." He said "Oh, I don't do piercings." and yelled for some dude in the back. Dude yells to "HOLD ON!" and comes out about 15 minutes later... and says "yes?" as if I were totally killing his entire day. I repeated my piercing question. He said "Well... That depends on what you want." I said "I just want something small and cheap." (Cheap meaning inexpensive, not poor quality, OBVIOUSLY) and he said "Ma'am... we don't do cheap piercings here. If you get a cheap piercing, you're getting a sh*tty quality piercing and we only do high quality piercings.) Then he proceeded to scold me on the way I say things and how I "obviously don't know what a good piercing is. [He's] been piercing for longer than [I've] been alive, how dare [I] say 'cheap." He pretty much called me an idiot and made me feel like I was the worst person that's ever stepped on the planet. At the end of my lecture, he told me his price would be about $75.00. FOR A NOSE RING?!?! I lose nose rings left and right, it's not that serious of a piercing, i go buy the little cheapy 6 packs of nose rings cuz I KNOW I'm gonna knock the suckers out a lot. So why in the world would I pay $75.00 to someone who's a complete JERK?! I wouldn't. Needless to say... I walked out.

Piercer was absolutely terrible. Was extremely cocky and sounded like he was the best piercer in the world. Sounded extremely condescending and didn't appreciate his pretentious attitude. I asked him whether it would be better to get a bar or a ring for my snug piercing and he said it was "up to me". Later, after going to another piercing location, they said that a bar would be best because it would rotate less to cause less irritation which, now that I think about it, makes so much more sense. Because he pierced my snug crookedly and thanks to little to no feedback about the jewelry choice, my snug piercing constantly gets irritated to this day (over two years later). I would NOT come here ever again because it's overpriced (extremely expensive, you can get a better job done somewhere else) and the piercer did a terrible job.

I've heard Sub-Q was "the best", I hardly agree after dealing with them....a girlfriend and I wanted to get a "Marilyn" about 2 years ago...the piercer was great, it was everything else that was a problem...I would also like to note that I have 3 other piercing about 10 tattoo (you start to lose count at some point) so this wasn't my first time in such an establishment.

They pierce you with a longer post due to swelling, then say to "come back in about 3 weeks to get a shorter post no charge" all you have to do is keep your little receipt thing. It sounded easy enough. I went back 3 times and was told a bullshit story, of why I couldn't have someone change out my post every time. I finally brought my boyfriend at the time with me, who exchanged some words with the shop manager about the situation...but he just kept telling us the same thing, "I just missed the jewelry guy"...yet again.....

it was ridiculous, the swelling had gone down and I now had the post sticking out of my skin. My company was starting to complain, they said if I got it sized correctly, it wouldn't be an issue, but it didn't look nice the way it was...and I agreed.

I finally gave up and spent $30 to get it changed at AMERICAN Graffiti...Great service there! and they didn't make me feel uncomfortable about the situation or anything....

Some parting word for SUB-PAR, ooppsss I mean SUB -Q (i mean sub-par)....

    1) You are not cooler than me bc you work in a piercing tattoo shop....trust me

    2) If you tell me to "come back whenever" to get my piercing changed out, don't tell me lies about the piercer having to leave early, having a sick baby, coming in a little later today (all excuses I heard for why I wasn't getting my promised change out)

    3) You don't have to have an attitude to be "in the industry" so stop acting like your saving babies whales for Christ sake...chip off shoulder please.....

    <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Famericangraffiti-tattoo.com%2F&s=ae228f1505ce16cf845fabb888e3d9af94845ccc1d5494091f21bb8f9bbc3e76" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://americangraffiti-…</a>

i dont have a vest interest in you going to American Graffiti...just another yelper trying to save you some money and a headache.

Sub-Q came as a recommendation from my brother who had piercings done here, and I checked out the Yelp reviews along with their official  website as well.  I'm a gal that does her research with everything, especially when there is body altering in the mix.

I went in Thursday evening about 6:40ish p.m., to just check out the place as I had never visited, and to get a price quote.

Upon arriving, the two guys at the front counter were very friendly, asked what I was there for (which was a piercing), and they had the "main piercer" come in to speak to me - who just so happened to be the owner, Scott.

I told Scott I was there to have my earlobes pierced with a second hole on each side, he gave me a price quote, answered ALL of my questions in detail and made me feel very comfortable.  They even had like 5-6 different liquid soups for me to smell to decide which one I wanted for my aftercare - which was included in the price of the piercing.

What was supposed to be my "price quote night", turned into me actually going through with the piercing.  There was no one ahead of me, and I was honestly blown away (in a good way), at how detailed Scott was.  He literally measured my head, earlobes side to side, and made sure that each of the piercings were even!  I've never heard of this being done (not that I talk to a lot of piercers - maybe it's the norm?), yet I was totally impressed.  This was NOT a place that just had me sit in a chair, used a Sharpie to mark the spot, and then use an ear piercing piercin gun to do the job.  Scott actually pierced my ears with a needle he used with his hands, and it was very fast and efficient.

I highly recommend Sub-Q for any of your piercing needs, and even for more elaborate things as well.  My little job wasn't anything out of the ordinary or that exciting - but to me, it was - and I'm happy they are done and are looking great!

Over the past years, I've gotten four piercings from SubQ. Katrina did my most recent work on a Saturday: 4 lobe stretches, a labret, and a hood redo. She was amazing! Pain wasn't bad on the labret, which was the one I was most scared of. She talked me through it all and was great. Plus, she's a doll! She was patient with the jewelry selection and spent way more time with me than the last piercer I had there.

Note: Katrina is no longer employed there.

I have never been tattooed here, so this review is based on my piercing experience.

About a month ago, I was playing around with the idea of getting my septum pierced. The fella and I went in, and Scot was very friendly and knowledgeable. After 19 years of doing this, I'd like to think he would be- haha. I laid on the table, and the piercing commenced. I got up and looked at the fella, and he immediately noticed it was crooked. We notified Scot and he had me lay back down so that he could pierce it again. It was still a bit crooked, so he explained the 4-day money back guarantee, and if I was unhappy he would either refund the money or pierce it again. The Fella decided to get his done also, and his turned out pretty good overall.

Within the 4 days, I decided that I was unhappy and wanted it fixed. Scot was really helpful and said he would do whatever needed to be done to make it right. We decided to take it out, let it heal, and I would come back to try it again. A few weeks later, the big day arrived, and I went in to try it again the for third time. I laid on the table, Scot pierced away. Before I could even get up, he said he was unhappy with it and wanted to do it again. To be quite honest, I wanted to scream, but I did want this piercing (don't you judge me, haha) so I allowed him to do it again. I've kept it flipped up since I got it done, and overall it looks pretty good. It's not perfect, but it's customized to me and my unique nose. It was quite the process and I can't believe I went through it that many times, but I'm happy and that's all that matters!

I can't speak highly enough of Sub Q! The establishment is very clean and the piercers are professional and well-informed. I have had four piercings done at Sub Q since 2000 and have had an amazing experience each and every time. Highly (HIGHLY!) recommended!

Most reviews I read were helpful. I went in expecting exactly what I got. A great place to get a piercing. I don't have a lot of experience with piercings so I wanted somewhere that was going to be helpful for a newbie. I got a tragus piercing and Scott was great. He gave me all the information I needed and made sure I understood everything.

So far, so good and it looks great. Little to no pain. In fact, my friend that went with me made more noise than I did.

As soon as my friends and I entered the shop, I knew that it was the lace to be.  The shop was clean and quiet, which I really liked.  It felt very peaceful at Sub Q. Someone came out to greet us immediately, with a very friendly face and polite manner.  When Scott came out to meet me, I was impressed by his professional look and demeanor.  Scott is THE most knowlegable piercer I have ever met.  Ever.  He listened to what I wanted, looked at my piercings, and informed me that it looked like what I wanted to do was entirely possible.  I was floored.  Every other piercing shop I went to said NO.  Scott said YES.  I was elated.  The pricing was VERY reasonable.  I only just got the barbell fitted today, so we'll see if Scott did the fitting right.  So far, it looks perfect.  And, I am definitley going back there for any other piercings or even for another tattoo.  HIGHLY  RECOMMENDED.

I have gotten three tattoos here and decided on a whim that I wanted to get my navel pierced.  I have always wanted to do it and never have gotten around to it.  Maybe I was backwards, getting the tattoos when I'm young and going for the bb piercing when I'm older but HEY I don't consider it that juvenile.

My piercing looks AMAZING, Scott is great and the place is clean.  The ring he put in is so cute its a curved barbell and its black.  Awesome job, love my piercing and love my tattoos :)

Also, they only accept cash so bring cash or be charged your firstborn for using their atm machine.  ;)

Sub Q is an awesome art studio that features a great number of the things from hand crafted jewelry and furniture to body piercing and tattoos.  I recent had their superstar tattoo artist Mikey Tattoo me and my mom. Hes an amazing talent , extremely clean and attentive.  I would have no other artist work on me and he to date has done four for me with one small one to go.

Scott is amazing. He really makes you at ease. He is honest in telling you about the piercing, healing etc. It was the least painful piercing i had. Quick and painless. It's amazing that all the jewelry and the soap doesn't irritate my skin because i am allergic to most metals and soap. Thanks Scott! i highly recommend coming here for any piercings.

SUB Q IS AWESOME!!!! Scot is awesomeeee! Gina is awesomeee!! I've gotten many piercings before, but they are by far, the most professional and efficient people I've ever met! They were super friendly and helpful in answering any questions that I had. The piercing was quick and painless, a lot less than what I thought it would be. Scot was very professional and never made me feel uncomfortable! I will definitely be back again in the future, once I decide what I want pierced next! I recommend anyone that wants a new piercing to come here!!

Alright, I didn't get pierced here nor did I get tattooed here so I'm going to tell you readers that right away.

However, I came here with a friend to buy jewelry and I picked up some soap while I was here. A friendly, kind soul greeted us right away. Unfortunately I don't know his name but he had long dreads and was just this real sweet, lanky guy. The piercer and I'm quite sure the owner was on break so this guy told us about how long it would be and we just decided to hang out while we waited. We talked to the dude for a while and checked out some of the art they had on display.

Then the other guy came out. I think he's the owner, judging by his knowledge and demeanor. He was short with us, grabbed some jewelry out of a drawer just based on our quick description. He offered to put it in for my friend. She goes to sit in the chair and he takes out her current jewelry, saying it was cheap and asking where she got it. Hmm. Then he complains about the state of her piercing and compares it to "not washing your asshole" and goes on this rant about how not washing a piercing is just as bad. Okay, we got it. Then he accuses her of wearing make up despite the fact she said she wasn't about five times. THEN - he mumbles something and walks away, grabs a needle, and repierces her nostril. No warning whatsoever. The look on her face just about broke my heart. He left the needle in her nose as he fiddled with the jewelry. Afterwards, he schooled her on proper aftercare (2 years after her getting it pierced).

To be fair, I bet he knows a whole lot about his craft. I know for sure you can come here for clean, skilled piercings and you will leave knowing all about how to take care them. However, his pompous attitude is just not worth it.

I love this place!  Scott is such a sweetheart, I felt very comfortable right away.  I have had a Marilyn for about 12 years and needed some new jewelry and wanted my ears stretched.  First of all Scott was cool, knowledgeable, and attentive.  I have been in the shop probably 10 times over all and have had nothing but good experiences.  If it's your first piercing go to him.  He will carefully walk you through all the steps and fill you in PROPERLY on after care.  All in all a good shop.

I had a great experience at Sub Q. I went in late Saturday afternoon with no appointment to get my nose pierced and was in and out in less than 30 minutes. Had there been no one ahead of me it would have been quicker.

The guy working was very knowledgeable and direct. He wasn't the warmest guy around, but he made me feel comfortable and that I was in good hands.

I read all the reviews on here before I went so I was expecting to pay a pretty penny, but I was pleasantly surprised. For the jewelry, piercing and a bottle of soap it was $60.98. I think that is an extremely fair price for what you are getting.

Anyway, for all your piercing needs I highly recommend Sub Q.

    CASH ONLY.

Five stars for piercing. They are professional, clean, and high quality, and yes you do pay for that. But I think it's worth it.

However, ignoring your customer when they walk in and are looking at jewelry? Kind of annoying and rude, hence the 2 star deduction.

    Also to note, cash only.

Sub-Q is an awesome place.  The first time I went in looking for jewelry I wasn't too keen on the place because Scott, who is the owner, I think, was very short and brusque.  He gave me what I wanted, but he seemed a little confrontational.  However, I went back just a few days ago because they make custom jewelry and nobody in the area carries or knows what a lip hugger ring is.  This time my experience was much different.  Scott was still a little short, but I think that's just how he talks.  He was very informative and my piece was made right away.  I asked him all kinds of questions and he answered each one decisively.  I've talked to a lot of different piercers trying to get the right information, but he was the only one that I felt really knew what he was talking about and he has almost 20 years of experience to back him up.  He didn't tell me that he was putting in a 14 ga ring where I previously had a 16 ga, so the surprise was unpleasant, but he explained every step of what he did and why, which I totally appreciate.

I highly recommend Sub-Q and I'm hooked for life.

Yea, they put holes in people just like the rest of the slobs in this town.

The difference here is that they know what they are doing and provide the advice and follow up care to help your piercing heal properly.  But the weirdest thing about this place is they actually seem to care about you and that your piercing heals properly.  I was pleasantly surprised by this and to find out that they make most of their jewelry right there in the shop.

I wouldn't go any where else.

    This is the Old Address.
    (K Street)

They're now over on I st., and they have tattoo artists!!!

I wouldn't go anywhere else in Sacramento to get a hole poked in my body. No way.

Sub-Q has been in operation the longest (I'm pretty sure) and has a good apprentice program so when they're ready.... your pierer is top notch.

You also can trade in your old stainless steel jewlery when you take out something or decide to stretch. (They can sterilize there) which is always a plus.

Scot, the owner-operator is a really cool guy who really knows his shit.

Otherwise, I think I'd go to Vaughn (who is the bomb-diggity) and possibly Katrina.

They don't allow your brat kids in the store... so don't bring them in. (thankfully!)

Their prices are fair, but in my opinion, you're getting someone who has much more experience if you come here.
