Got my first tattoo here, three line quote on my ribcage...went in originally thinking of getting it on my foot, but after talking to Cameron realized that that wasn't a very good idea. I was nervous, but Cameron did a good job and making it seem real simple, and once he actually started I wasn't nervous at all. It was nice because he used a topical numbing spray after an initial outlining, so the couple spots where it REALLY hurt didn't after that. I'm glad I actually ended up having Cameron, because he's the ONLY ONE who accepts credit cards, which I didn't know about. Overall good experience, nice atmosphere, and friendly staff, I felt real comfortable!
Review Source:I'm working with George on my first tattoo. Since I've never received a tattoo before, I guess I don't have a lot to compare War Horse to, but I will say that the process has been much easier and enjoyable than I thought it would be. George really worked WITH me to give me a tattoo that I will enjoy for the rest of my life. He listened to ideas I had and gave me suggestions and warnings when he thought some ideas wouldn't translate well to tattoo.
The shop is super-clean with really cool decor and the music selection is great.
What else can you say about this place?  It's freckin' awesome! I now totally  understand why there are so many  5 star reviews after going here.
First off, I love the tattoo I received from Cameron. I walked in on a Saturday afternoon, he greeted me and I told him I was a newbie but had an idea of what I wanted. He looked at the artwork I provided and said no problem.  I came back the  following Tuesday to get it done.
The shop is beautiful, spotless and very sterile. I actually think it's cleaner that most doctor's offices. What I love about this place is they only do custom work... you won't find a book of images to choose from. Â This enables you to be creative and come up with something that truly represents you. Cameron understood I was new to this and answered all my dumb questions. Once he was finished, he gave me a really informative after care card to take with me and and recommended some specific brands for me to get.
Cameron did a kick ass job and I've already referred him to a friend of mine. The only issue I have to deal with now is my mom isn't speaking to me since she didn't want me to get a tattoo. Â She freaked out when she saw the video of me getting "inked" on Facebook. Â LOL!
Thanks Cameron and War Horse! Â You guys ROCK and I'll be back for more "ink" before you know it. Oh, and this time I won't Facebook it so mom won't know. :)
When I took the bandage off my first rib tattoo, I cried because of the disappointment in what I was looking at.
When I took the bandage off my NEW rib tattoo (a coverup) by Steve, I cried because it is so beautiful and perfect.
It feels like everything fell into place so I could get this beautiful piece done. I didn't have an appointment, but decided to try for a walk-in anyway. I really wanted to get the moon (as it looked on a certain night that means a lot to me) on my ribs to cover up something else that wasn't originally done the way I'd wanted. Steve was free and after a few minutes with my reference photo, he was ready to start. I thought I had an idea of how painful a rib tattoo was gonna be, but I definitely underestimated it. Steve was super cool with me being kind of a wuss about it. After taking a break, we got to talking enough to kinda refocus me on something else, and the last bit was much easier to get through than I think it would've been had I not been distracted. Â
Steve did an AMAZING job. I'm literally giddy with excitement at how good my moon looks. I went in thinking I'd get something more photorealistic, but nervous about it looking too harsh. Steve used opaque greys and the style looks sort of painted (that's the best way I can describe it). I didn't realize it until I saw it after we were finished, but this is EXACTLY what I wanted. This tattoo means so much to me and I can't imagine how devastated I'd feel if it didn't turn out right. But thank god everything came together just right. Cause I am IN LOVE with my moon. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
George Campise is one of the most talented tattooers I know and one of the nicest dudes in the industry! Â I became aware of him back in the day at Everlasting in SF and have received a few really great tattoos from him at various shops over the years. Â I was really stoked when he opened his own spot. Â War Horse is a beautiful shop and well worth the trek to the East Bay!
Review Source:Just finished my 2nd tattoo from Miah, and I am absolutely in love with it. I came in for a consult and let him know I wanted a mandala on my forearm. We exchanged emails and in the weeks before my tattoo day, I emailed him photos of details I liked. He was very responsive. The day of, Miah had sketched out 8 different mandalas for me! They were all so beautiful, it was difficult to decide. But as soon as we got the ball rolling, the experience was just as pleasant as the first time. I was very comfortable, and we were able to chitchat for a bit. He is super chill, and very professional. The shop itself was very clean and spacious, a very nice environment to get tattooed in.
Miah is great artist, and I get tons of compliments on my work. I highly recommend him, and I definitely plan on going back to him to get more.
As my epic road trip  was winding down, I wanted to get a tattoo to remember this trip by. I searched all over Berkeley and decided to come by War Horse and we couldn't have made a better choice.
Without calling or making appointments, I didn't expect to be able to get anything done at such late notice. I stopped in anyway at almost closing time and met with Cameron and Paul who are both totally AMAZING and awesome to stay late and work with what I wanted. They are both super nice, hilarious, patient and talented.
War Horse, as everyone here has already mentioned, is extremely clean, comfortable, and very spacious. You can definitely tell they have put a lot of effort in every little detail with this place. This may be silly, but I really appreciated that their "after care" instructions wasn't just photocopied on a cheap piece of paper. :)
I live in So Cal, but will definitely come back to Cameron for future ink. ;)
New York lost one of it's best tattooers when Paul Bosch left for San Francisco and War Horse Tattoo. I've been a long time client and fan of Paul. He has tattooed me and my husband a lot over the years, and each time the end result is so much better than what I envisioned. His black and grey work is beautiful. His shading is brilliant. He has an insane eye for detail. And most important, you can trust him to take your initial idea and run with it.
It's sad to see Paul leave NY, and he is really missed. War Horse is very lucky to have him, and San Francisco better treat him right.
I really cannot say enough good things about Paul Bosch at Warhorse!!! I have and will follow Paul wherever he is. He has been tattooing my wife and i for the last 5 years or so. His black and grey work is unparalleled. Besides just being a really nice guy, he just seems to understand exactly what you need ( even when you don't) Â His shading is insane too! Amazing work on skulls, animals, birds and bugs. i get compliments all the time for the work he has done. I recommend everyone to stop by Warhorse and check out his book whether its your first tattoo or just adding to your collection. Â You will not be disappointed. Thanks Paul!
Review Source:Miah does amazing work. He did a figure on my arm surrounded by flowers, and not only is the overall tattoo beautiful, but I keep staring at, in awe over the tiny details. The fingernails on the figure, the flower petals, the irises in the eyes. One of my friends actually yelled "OH MY GOD!" when she saw it because she thought it was so beautiful.
This is the second tattoo I have had done by Miah. The first I had done about a year and a half ago when he was at another shop. I love it. It is two large roses with a bunch of scrolly lines around it that I get compliments on all the time.
If you want an awesome tattoo, go see Miah.
War Horse is amazing! I got my first tattoo there last Wednesday by Cameron Miller. I've been to more shops than I can count trying to get a tattoo, but they were either dirty or the staff were really rude because I wasn't familiar with tattoo etiquette (minimum charges).
War Horse is extremely clean, spacious, COMFORTABLE, and all the artists are really chill. I like that there aren't huge walls up, and there is no clutter (the decor is super nice). Cameron was a totally kick ass artist and did a beautiful job on my first piece (I highly recommend him!) .
Even looking through all the artists' books up front or around to shop at what work was being done, you can tell that this shop has so much talent in it. Great experience, totally going back for my other pieces! Love love love!
George is an awesome artist. Since getting my sleeve done I have had literally had about 40+ complements about his work if not more and it's not even competed yet. Â His laid back attitude and genuine professionalism have made it a great experience. Â I feel that all the researching and planning that went into finding that perfect artist paid off. If you want custom work done, this would be the place. The shop is immaculate and is one of the premier studios in the Bay Area.
Review Source:I had a wonderful experience there.  The people are very nice.  MIAH, my tattooist did  superb work restoring an old tattoo from a photograph.  I had made inquiries at several places and he is the only person who understood what I needed.  I am so pleased with his work.  I would highly recommend him.
Review Source:I got my first and so far only tattoo at War Horse about a month and a half ago. Miah was my artist.
I had a really wonderful experience getting inked by Miah. I really liked the space. Super open and clean. I brought along two friends for moral support and Miah engaged us easily in conversation and made us all feel very welcome. The whole process was super professional, and comfortable and easy. And the tattoo itself was  really a lot less painful than I thought it would be. My tattoo is very small and simple and I already had the exact design when I went in (a 10-letter Norwegian word) but it looks really freaking good. Miah's line work is superb. The aftercare instructions they gave me were great, and I'm super happy with how my tattoo has turned out. Thank you War Horse and thank you Miah!
Warhorse Tattoo is amazing. Miah is my very talented artist and his work is ridiculously sick! Â He is such a nice guy and as incredibly talented as he is he doesn't have this huge, unbearable ego. Â The shop is beautiful and unlike any other shop I have been in. Â Its like an art gallery. Â Everyone is so incredibly talented and friendly. Â I love love this place. Â The gods were definitely looking out for me on this one!
Review Source:Best tattoo experience so far. I got my third tattoo done at War Horse by artist Cameron Miller. He was awesome. Did a great job on my tattoo and was super friendly. Love that he was experienced and that he was approachable and memorable. Definitely will be coming back here for my next tattoo.
Review Source:Miah saved my back. I had a pretty cool Tat when I was oh... 18. By the time I was forty people were asking me what is it ? An octopus, an eagle, a raisin ? It was bad. Someone else said they could do a cover and tried... suffice it to say I was ruined for a LONG time. Miah had me do a few passes of laser removal and did a cover to DIE for it totally rocks. No question what I have now and I'm really grateful to have someone who cared enough to steer me in the right direction AND to insanely beautiful work. Thanks Miah.... big time !
Review Source:When I first starting going to Cameron Miller for my work, he was at a shop in Santa Barbara. The first piece he did on me was an old fashioned ink well and fountain pen on my rib cage which turned out absolutely incredible. Since then, I have gone to Cam every time I've gotten the itch for ink. He can do ANYTHING and knocks all others out of the water. An antique egg beater, a .44 revolver, a bit of calligraphy, and an Edgar Degas sketch later, there's no one else I trust more with my art. You bet the next time I want something done, I'll be making the trek up to War Horse in Berkley to make sure it gets done right.
Review Source:I have had a lot of horrible tattoo experiences, and some not-so-pretty tattoos. This being said, it was a breath of fresh air to be tattooed by an experienced and talented professional that accommodated my every need. I couldn't be happier with my experience getting tattooed by Miah.
Everything was CLEAN, comfortable, and chill. I never felt like I was in a snobby environment, as is common with tattoo shops. I was able to bring in my ideas without him totally ignoring my needs. I was confident when he started that my money was being spent on exactly what I wanted, and it came out more beautiful than I imagined. Â
I highly recommend checking out Miah's work, as he is a very versatile artist that will make anyone happy. Best money I've spent all year and Im still smiling about my gorgeous leg.
Miah remains the best artist to ever touch my skin. Which is saying something, as I definitely sport some other art that I love.
He's one of the most versatile artists I've seen, in that he not just pulls off but flat out kills many different styles... and does it with zero attitude. Frankly, I usually expect a lot more ego to go along with that much talent but I'm damn glad it doesn't... just one more reason to come back for more.
