Windhorse Tattooing and Art Gallery

Getting a chest piece by Matthew. His knowledge of Asian Art is second to none. He made me feel totally comfortable and relaxed. I was a puss in both sessions, but Matthew, Mark and staff were so cool. Extremely professional, hospital-like cleanliness and friendly. Also nice if you like a little privacy. Looking forward to the next session.

When planning out my tattoos, I have a practice that doesn't really seem to mesh with the actions of many others. While most will shop around and find a tattoo artist that they love and then stick with them until one of them moves away or dies, I've always liked to bounce around from one artist to another. It's not that I haven't been happy with previous work. Instead, I just have a lot of different looks that I am looking for in my work, and want to be free to go to the artist that is best in that particular style. Now that I've sat down in the chair at Windhorse, however, I fear that I may never be able to go someplace else. You see, Windhorse is simply as good as it gets!

This is not a typical tattoo studio. There's no wall covered in pictures of skulls and tattoos with price tags next to them. You aren't going to be crammed into a room with a dozen other people getting barbed wire rings around their biceps. In fact, you could easily walk in and not even realize this is a tattoo studio. The front room is filled with art. Really good art, in fact! They obviously put a lot of care into this aspect of their business, while in most other studios, any sort of art would be an afterthought.

Of course, none of this would matter if they didn't do quality work. I see Mark Galloway, who I suspect might be the best tattoo artist in the city. (I know others will say somebody else, but how much time can you live in Hawaii and still be considered a KC artist?) His portfolio is astounding, and when I saw it for the first time, I knew that I had found the right place.

Windhorse is strictly appointment only, and you'll probably have to book far in advance. It's also a bit more expensive than other studios. But for something that's going to be on your body for the rest of your life, I think the money is well worth it. Mark's line work is outstanding, and he has a really artistic eye. I gave him a description of a sleeve I had envisioned, as well as some example art. He came back with a drawing that was really not much like what I had imagined, but the second I saw it, I knew I had to have it.
