BEST place to get inked in the Portland-Metro area!  I've been getting tattoo's since 1990, and have come across some of the best in the biz, but my hats off to Michael Facchini.

His approach pre-ink is like going in for brain surgery, and talk about a soft hand.  He tattooed most of my right calf, and I hardly knew he was working on me.

Clarity and definition is unreal, and my expectations were overwhelmingly exceeded, given the intricacy of what I was having done.  A+++ to Mike.

I'm about due for some new ink...guess it's time to call Mike for an appointment!

Went in for a tattoo of my dog after he passed with just a very basic sketch and idea.  Mark took it and turned it in to something amazing that I will cherish forever.  The people working there are very professional, the place is very clean, and they did an amazing job for a great price.  Will be back, and they will be recommendation to anyone else looking for a tattoo.

I'm bumping it up to five for the service I've gotten at both BH locales. I haven't had anything recently to pierce but their jewelry and polite service even when they are busy kills me. In a good way. Too many tattoo/body shops ignore those who aren't getting ink or pierced - and damn if that ain't annoying. Here? No. They want your business.

And I believe I told the story on another review, but I've had my lip pierced twice before I had BH do it for the last time. The piercer saw the prior areas & said "I can just stretch that" and put a larger gauge in there. That's right - he gave up a piercing charge for a $5 stretch piece (they upgrade gauges for free, sans the jewelry).  Wow. Clearly not about just the $$ but the right treatment on the customer & their body.

A++++++++++ if simply for their true, simplistic honesty.

p.s. dear one star - no tattoo shop will guarantee finger or foot tattoos. Nope. I have two foot tattoos and getting them was a debacle because they are more apt to fade and look like crap. Giving a one star for that shows that you...didn't do research. Feel free to peace OUT. Them turning you away means they care about their overall PRODUCT,  not $$$.

I wanted to get a small symbol tattooed on my finger. They said they don't do any tattoos on your hands unless you already have tattoos on their hands because its a 'job killer' and will fade.  Tons of people get tattoos on their fingers and hands. If it fades you get it touched up. I don't know what the big deal is. I was also a little offended about the job killer comment without them knowing what and where the tattoo would be or what I do for a living.

I'm not sure why they would turn away my business. I was there for about 45 seconds before they sent me packing. Unfortunately they won't get a second chance from me.

I've had the same guy do all of my work so it's safe to say I was nervous about going to a new shop. Jay the owner was super helpful and Mike is an amazing artist.  I was so impressed with the drawing he came up with and even more impressed with the finished product.  I live in L.A. but will definitely come back to see Mike for my next tattoo.

they were okay.... I didnt get anything pierced.... I just needed a replacement ball for one of my piercings.... I am always losing my balls....grrrrrrrr. I swear the cats grow thrums and unscrew them while I sleep.

I had a type of threading they dont carry here and was told that they dont make that kind anymore.... that I would need to either find my ball or buy a new set of horse shoes. ummmm since it had been over a year since I had last bought some balls... I just kind of said okay and had them sell me more jewelry... ummm yea found out a week later from my piercer who was out of town that they do indeed sell my originals type and I was lied to ... I hate that... just tell me you dont carry that kind and let me make up my own mind thank you very much

I don't go anywhere else besides Black Hole for all of my piercing needs, so when I was ready to get a tattoo, this was the first place that came to mind. My sister and I got some text tattooed on our feet about a month and a half ago, and it turned out great. Mike was funny  (even thought I was a little caught off guard my his super dry sense of humor at first), and he chatted and joked with us the whole time (which definitely helps take your mind off all the tiny needles that he's jabbing into your skin). I just went back today to get a little touch up now that the tat is all healed. Mike was in the middle of a session but another artist (Jay) offered to do it for me. He was really friendly as well and I wasn't charged for the touch up (although I gave him a few bucks as a tip anyway).
One thing I have noticed about my experiences at Black Hole is that I am never that impressed by the customer service at the front (when I showed up for my original appointment, for example, the guy told me "Oh yeah, Mike's right here," but then continued to carry on a personal conversation for another 5 minutes like we weren't even standing there). However, once I am taken back for my tattoo/piercing, everyone is always really knowledgeable and helpful and I am never disappointed in that aspect. Bottom line,  if you are on the market for a new tattoo or piercing, I would definitely recommend Black Hole!!

when your getting a tattoo its a rather memorable moment for you. I had never been to Black Hole until one random day  I walked in, not expecting anything on a Sunday afternoon, (and I feel like shit for not remembering his name) helped me with my design with no rolling of the eyes, or being distracted, and gave me 100% of his attention and offered to ink me that day. The atmosphere is comfortable, the employees are chatty, and you have an over all feeling of being welcome.

Being a bit OCD on the germ front, I won't go anywhere else to get a new hole put in me! Always clean, always professional. Emily the piercer is absolutely wonderful, and both she and Najwa (another piercer) are very knowledgeable and friendly. I have not had tattoo work done here, but my sister refuses to get inked anywhere else, and another friend of mine just got some work done here and is very happy with the results. Two thumbs up!

I love this place. I've got a couple tattoos here and also most of my 14 piercings. They are always very nice and sanitary. I won't go anywhere else!

I got my nose, tragus, and belly button pierced here. I showed up as a walk-in each time and was able to be pierced right away. They have a good selection of jewelry and a very skillfull staff. All of the procedures were done quickly and with great cleanliness. The staff was friendly, creative, and great to work with. Plus the piercing were relatively affordable. Great place to go.

I went to the beaverton location to get my belly button pierced, and off top they weren't very friendly or helpful. I tell the girl behind the counter that I want to get my belly button pierced, she tells me to lift up my shirt and show her my naval because she needs to make sure that I have the "right kind of belly button." Before I even lifted my shirt, I could tell that she had reservations of some sort. She tells me that I don't have the right kind of belly button, and that it's not pierce-able. I was PISSED OFF. So I walk across the street to Addictions (where the staff was much more friendly and helpful) I tell the guy working there what had just happened and he laughs and says that they turn people away for the dumbest reasons. He said that they denied a girl a cartilage piercing because she had no other piercings. Black hole is retarded, go to Addictions across the street.

This place is great!!!  I can't speak for all the artists, but I am in L.O.V.E with the work that Mike Faccini has done on me.  He captures exactly what I am thinking of every time.  My 3rd tattoo by him and I plan to go back to him again and again.  Prices are comparable, but don't bother shopping around because you can't do any better.
Suggested Mike to a friend who already had 7 tattoo's before, and she could not be any happier with her Fleur de lis foot tattoo.
Staff is way friendly.  Location is fairly easy to find.  There is always parking.
Also, I have had great experiences with piercings from the staff here.  One nose, two lower ear, and one upper ear cartilage piercing.
If your skeptical, like me with EVERYTHING, just go in for a meet and greet with them.  You wont be disappointed.

I've been planning/designing/redesigning this tattoo for the past four years. It is in honor of a friend of mine who died back in 2005. I've been nervous about actually getting it done, because of the importance of this particular piece. Black Hole has done all of my piercings over the years, so I figured I'd trust them to do my latest tat.

Derek was my tattoo artist, and he was friendly and professional. After looking at my design and answering all of my questions, he quoted me a fair price. I expected it to take a lot longer than it did, considering the amount of solid black I had incorporated into the design. Everyone there was friendly and the shop was clean.

I have more designs in the works for future tattoos, and I guarantee I'll be going back to Black Hole for them.

As a side note, be sure to bring cash, or plan on hitting the US Bank ATM half a block away. Tattoos are cash only.

On another side note, I'd recommend their piercing services, as well. I've only been pierced at the east-side location, but I can tell that the professionalism carries over to this side of the river.

What a great experience.  It was my first time in a tatt shop (but not first time in a piercing shop) and I was really impressed.  I've watched Miami Ink a few times and thought it was tacky to tatt someone's ass right in the front lobby for all to see, no privacy at all.  I expected the same when going to Black Hole (after all, it must be the norm since a high profile place like Miami Ink does it).  Not at all.  I didn't go in for a tatt but it was apparent that those are done privately.
I went in for a nose job (heheheh nostril piercing) and was met by a very friendly and helpful tattoed dude.  He was knowledgeable and patient and when I asked him his advice, he gave it very professionally.  Once I picked my nose (jewelery) a girl named Nojua came and took us back to a private room to do the deed.  She was very very pleasant, the most pleasant person to poke me (I already had two piercings).  No question was too stupid, and her earthy personality really helped ease me.  My daughter was with us and talked a lot and Nojua didn't seem to mind at all.  I can't say enough about Nojua.  She's the one to choose when looking for a piercer. I read reviews on Black Hole and the other area piercers/tatters and decided to try BH.  I'm glad I did.  Now my husband is talking about going back there for some more ink for himself.  BH really impressed him for their sterility, professionalism, friendliness, and all around appearance.  Parking is tight so if you have an appointment, try to get there early so you can find a parking slot. Limited parking in front but more parking in back.

Although most people think of this local chain for primarily piercing, some still don't realize that they've been into tattoos for a couple of years now.  I had my tongue pierced at the Eastside location five years ago, and just yesterday experienced the same friendly, sanitary service from one of their Westside tattoo artists.

I'm far from a wire brush and Purell-wielding OCD freak, but when it comes to having something needled into my body, I tend to pay attention to the overall cleanliness of the procedure.  Robin, the great artist that worked on me, was beyond careful when it came to keeping a sanitary operation.  She was also very realistic about the price, size and placement of my piece, which is invaluable to long tattoo life.  And not only did it go faster than we had planned, but it somehow looked even better than I imagined.

It's a great feeling to see the design you've been carrying in your head make it's way to your skin, and be doubt-free as to whether or not it will stay that way.  I strongly recommend you consider Black Hole Body Designs for your next modification (and if you hit up the Westside, don't forget to ask for Robin!).
