I have gotten all of my tattoo's done here. The shop is always very clean and the fact it is a school eased my mind when I was searched for shops to go to. All the artists are extremely talented. I've worked with Thor for 4 of my pieces and he's worked on about 7 of my friends. They also offer free touch-ups for life regardless of the artist (I always give tip for their time). I highly recommend them.

I like going to this tattoo studio, in fact ive gone here for 90% of my ink and had the same guy working on 95% of the ones i've gotten here.

I like how clean the place is for starters which is always a must when going to a tattoo studio. I also like that the owner is very friendly and has been there quite a few times that ive gone in, which shows that it's a good business to me. The staff is friendly and will answer any questions that you have they also walk you through the process every time you go to get a tattoo and open clean needles in front of you, a very sterile environment. They also go over proper hygiene at the end of every tattoo regardless of how many times you've been there and will do touch ups if anything ever fades.

One thing i wasn't a particular fan of was when i would have appointments set up with the guy who usually does my work and then i would drive all the way to Portland, which is not cheap but I'm such a fan i prefer to get my stuff done here; only to find out he called in for the day and isn't coming, but i never received a phone call letting me know not to drive up there, or to reschedule. That's happened to me at least three times, the third time it happened the owner had another guy that worked there do what i had come in for (touch ups) that particular time.

They do get busy so setting up an appointment or making a trip up with what you want or your ideas on what you want would be best, but it is well worth the extra gas money to get in to this place and have them work on your ink.

Oh another thing the artist i go to there was supposed to be drawing me a sleeve, i put down the deposit thingy and asked multiple times to see the piece and i never have seen any of it, he insisted that he emailed it to me but i never saw it like i said.  I would have loved to see it since it was something that i really wanted, but i'm not sure what happened, it was disappointing. Even the couple times after i asked him to draw it for me that i came in he didn't have it, one time he said it was misplaced, and then i got pregnant with my daughter and told him i would still like to have it and see it, and that was the last i ever heard of it.

Captain Jacks is the worst tattoo experince I have ever had. My best friend and I had a lillies done back in 2008. We went there because the price was cheap but now I know that you get what you pay for. We had the same artist who based our lillies off a photograph I brought in. The artist who did both of our lillies should have done a better job with the experince he had and the photos in his portfolio. He missed so many spots on both of our lillies.

After both tattoos were done the artist told us to leave the bandage on, wash it with soap, and then "dry heal our tattoos" he sent us home with a paper with the dry healing after care instructions. NEVER AGAIN! Both of our tattoos cracked, scabbed, and bled. My friend's tattoo even got infected! After our tattoos healed they had so many spots of missing color. The color was flat and dull. I had people constantly telling me  my tattoo  "looked old and like shit." My friend and I have both had our flowers redone since then by other artists and shops.

This was almost  4 years ago but the experince was so brutal it's hard to forget. I do not recommend this shop .I really hope the shop has changed since.

Yeah, I'm now 16 hours into my back-piece with about 3 hours left to do, and I only love this place more after every visit.  Not only is "my guy" (Sean) the best ever, but I've had the pleasure of watching Thor and Steve work as well, and their stuff is amazing.

The guys, and Dave, treat the students well, answer any and all questions, and their work is second to none.  Wish I could share a picture.

My first tattoo experience was at Captain Jack's just a few days ago.  I've wanted one for years and years and Sean walked me through the whole thing and was totally cool.  He took my handwriting and turned it into a work of art.  He was so amazing and did such a wonderful job I couldn't ask for more.  He even set up a little 'gallery' for my friends so they could hang out and watch.    Thank you so much for making the experience so fantastic!

I was excited to get my first tattoo. Young, artist, with a sketchpad full of things I wanted inked into my skin for the rest of my life.  Why did I go here? The guy refused to tattoo me where I wanted it (on my hip)  walked off in the middle of working on me to take a phone call and messed up on the work. Then to make it worse he decided to "shadow" it with lighter colors in a attempt to cover up his mistake. I've talked to other people about their tats and strangely came across 3 girls all saying "yeah the artist wanted to add his own touch he messed up the design" on simple flowers, a fairy and a rose. Stranger yet I asked who did their work and all three said &$@@? From captin jacks. Yeah sorry for any of the GOOD artist working there but the $5 discount you gave doesn't make up for the horrible experience. In further info: I wanted to get the ink done on my hip (where I wanted it the first time) and actually have a fear of being tattood.

I have warned my friends not to go but stupidly one decided to "try her luck" I get to tell her told you so everytime she looks at that work.

You have officially lost any business from me or my friends perminatly.

In Portland for just one day, other shops were booked solid (I called days in advance even), so I figured I'd head over to Hawthorne as I vaguely remember a tattoo studio there? Sure enough - there was Captain Jack's. We went in, explained the small tats we wanted and our only-in-Portland today status. He said he could get us in later that afternoon ... but then he called Steve who decided to come in early. We waited all of about 1/2 hour before getting in the chair. The work was done perfectly, extremely sterile evironment, and Steve was awesome - friendly and chatty but concentrated. In and out - reasonably priced, too! Will DEFINITELY return!

I got my tattoo here a year ago and I'm very happy with it.  My best friends and I designed this simple tattoo together while vacationing in Olympia, and while driving through Portland we decided on a whim to stop at Captain Jack's.  Friendly service, good prices!

This place is great. Steve is a super nice guy and I would recommend him to anyone. He is patient, thourough and you can tell he cares about his work. This is by far the best tattoo experience I've had and I plan on continuing to go here from now on! Inexpensive, clean and friendly!

Yes they look walking human canvas but they do have the personality of an Oregonian. Friendly, personable and warm.

What got me in this establishment? They are one of the few tattoo shops that does UltraViolet tattoo. (To those who are not familiar, they are transparent to the naked eyes and glow in the dark in the presence of black light.)  They cost a little more than your average tattoo but it's all worth it. They even do an all white ink tattoo in which most tattoo salon's don't. Another plus.

    Neato eh?

The place looks pristine. So pristine, it smelled better than a hospital. The store has a hint of Isophropyl Alcohol. Hmmmm.. I have an unexplainable liking to that scent. The store seems to be well kept as there are no clutter around it. Even the outside looks decent (Hawthorne standard).

Will update it as I get mine done.

I definitely suggest to go get an appointment rather than walking in and taking chances. They seem to be busy on weekends (and the store hours are from noon to 10pm)

On a whim my brother and I decided to get tattoos while visiting Oregon. We asked our lunch waitress about tattoo shops and she suggested Captain Jack's. We were in luck! The tattoo shop was extremely clean and Tim our tattoo artist was personable and a wealth of knowledge. I got two small skulls behind my ears and my brother got a nautical star on his elbow. The prices are great and I would suggest this shop to anyone!
