I love City of Ink! I love it so much that I drive from Houston to Atlanta just to get my tattoos. I have been artfully inked by Miya Bailey and Melvin Todd. They are both great at what they do. I have seen the work of the other artists when I'm there and they are impressive as well. If you care about your ink and want it to be a meaningful piece of art this is the place you should come too! Each time I walk in I am inspired by the art hanging on the walls and by the artists.
Review Source:I was super skeptical about getting my tattoo here, but it was amazing! The artist, Malia, was amazing. She drew my picture to perfection and opened a new needle in front of me, after I asked. The whole thing from start to finish took 30 minutes! I live in BKLYN, NY...but I'll be back!
Review Source:I was recommended to this tattoo shop by one of my friends. Â I was in search of a place to get my first tattoo and went here and wasn't disappointed. Â Qulock was the artist who did my tattoo. Â He was very nice and did a great job of designing a concept when i told him what I wanted.(Make sure to do a spell check on him before finalizing any designs...he misspelled a word in my design but I caught it and it was fixed). Â The tattoo parlor in general is a very hipster feel and has a lot of cool artwork for you to look thru and even cooler art on the walls to admire while you wait. Â I definitely recommend this shop to anyone interested in getting a tattoo...they have many artists to choose from and you can't go wrong with any of them! Â They are all talented! Â Check em out. Â I will def be returning when i figure out what i want my next tattoo to be. Â Parking can be kinda crazy too...good luck finding a spot on the street.
Review Source:City of ink artists are professional and incredibly talented.
I have a few tattoos and this is the first place that I've been to where they don't do the print ink thing and then trace, they actually draw on you first to get the movement of the art on your skin. If you like structure & shape yea, im sure they'd make an exception. But back to the artists, Â I don't think there is anything they cannot do they are so skilled.
In addition they're friendly, the spot has the feel of going to your friends house to get hooked up, I've been on occasion just to chill and chat, but at the same time it has all the professionalism of a well established-licensed tattoo parlor.
The place doubles as an art studio so they are always show-casing the talent of the tattooists or local art. Large wall sized paintings cover the walls, I've even seen some not mounted, on canvas strung up like banners. Awesome sh-t.
When I was getting a complicated art piece that took about 3hours the dude Chris (not my artist, Roger, he was very focused) lit up & smoked two hookahs. I thought that was chill.
There's also a piercer Brittany Slam that has done work on me and continuously brings in new fashionable ring styles/jewelry. Love her.
It's a young professional black owned establishment that I will continue to be a patron of and highly recommend.
Ive been a repeat customer of Qulock's for over a year now. Hes been really great to work with, as many of the first ideas i came with were my own. As my arm progressed, we talked through how it would look with different appearances. My arm is finished and looks better than i imagined with the initial concept.
This is my 6th shop ive used in the city and may just be the last! I plan on getting more work done by Qulock and other employees for future projects.
City of Ink is an AMAZING place to have your BODY personalized with a piece of CREATION (i.e. ART). All of the staff is very friendly and talented. My Artist is Chris Colbert. He is such an AMAZING talent. I gave him the vision for my 1st tattoo and momentarily, he begin drawing on my hand and my vision literally came to life. I am amazed at the work that is on my hand and I am a LIFELONG and LOYAL customer to the City Of Ink.
Review Source:Three years ago I was living in Baltimore and Tuki Carter was doing a guest stint at a studio in DC. A friend who is an Atlanta native highly recommended Tuki's work for a complicated and large tattoo I wanted, so I drove down to DC, and I am damn happy I did.
He took a look at the painting that I wanted my tattoo based on, sketched a general outline, then freehanded the rest of it including some very complicated shading. The whole process took 3 hours or more, but Tuki was relaxed and chill the whole time. The end result is amazing and still gets compliments constantly. I think he still digs the outcome too considering he has it up on his myspace page. :-)
Kudos to Tuki... a real pro and an amazing artist. I'm glad I ended up in Atlanta at this juncture in my life because I've been thinking about another piece coming up soon.
I must start out by saying City Of Ink is amazing! The vibe is relaxed & everyone is kind & laid back.  I cant remember everyone's names (shame on me) but my Tattoo Artist was Tuki Carter. He was so cool! He made me feel very comfortable & didnt mind talking to me to keep my mind off the pain.  I have a portrait (no lines) style flowers tattoo starting at the top of my behind reaching up to diagonally  to my right shoulder. It is BEAUTIFUL  to say the least. I have received tons of compliments and he is not even finished with it yet. I go back in a few weeks to get the finishing touches and I will be sure to update & even add pics!
Review Source:By far the main and maybe only place I'll get my ink done at.
Well fair to say, the only person I'll let ink me up is from one of the main owners Miya Bailey.
I had 5 of my pieces done around MA & NH and they were decent but not good enough, so I decided to hold my urge on anymore and study some artists, and the one I came across was Miya. After emailing him and calling him, it seemed like he definitely knew his shit, which is great cause I was tryin to find someone who does ink on darkskin in particular... so when I heard he was going to NY, I drove down there from Boston and aside from lateness, he gave me a fair price, quick job, great insight, and of course great work.
Great to the point where that was one of my main convincers to go to Atlanta, cause aside from visiting what turned out to be a dope city, I wanted to get inked up again.
The second piece was indeed my biggest and came out close to what I wanted... but I did agree to the blueprint so that's on me... but I know once I make my additions, the next session will be even better.
So yeah, this is my main spot for getting ink and It'll be hard for me to stray... even if I am 1000 miles away... its all about timing
Okay, so I'd consulted with the artist (Tuki) I'd intended to to my first tattoo TWICE. The first time, he agreed to do it, priced me, told me what I needed to do to prep, but since the shop was packed, I didn't stay. Â I consulted with him again the next time I saw him in passing, and told him when I was gonna stop by.
My bad for not making an official appointment!!!! when I arrived, he wasn't interested at all in doing the piece as we had discussed, and since my heart was  set on getting this piece I agreed not only to modify my vision, but to have his apprentice, Sophie to do it. Â
I have to take a moment here to say that in hindsight, I should have just left.  At least half of my dissatisfaction come from the fact that  *I* backed down from having exactly what I wanted, and getting something "good enough".
I thought the sketch was nice, so i agreed to proceed. Due to the location of the tattoo, I was not able to monitor its progress, and I did not notice a few mistakes that would go unnoticed by a casual glance, or by someone unfamiliar with what I was trying to express with my tattoo. Hell, I didn't even notice them as I strained to view the piece in the shop, upon completion. Once I got home and I was able to take pics of the art, I noticed the errors and the tattoo I had been enamored with just a few hours before, became a bit of a disappointment.
It has been almost a week now and I have gotten more than my fair share of compliments on my piece already, but I silently feel a twinge of sadness every time someone mentions it.
Despite this, the place was very clean, everyone was very chill,  my artist was very eager to please, and left the door open for me to return for any concerns, touch ups, etc. I don't know if  things can be revised to my satisfaction, but it's fantastic to be certain that the shop and its artists will follow through to make that effort. I WILL return do just that, and maybe even another piece.
I am a weird person (I will admit that), every time I get some bad news I like to do something that makes me happy. So last night I determined that getting a tattoo would make me happy. Â
Seeing how I am on a budget (like the rest of America)  I wanted a tattoo that meant  something to me BUT didn't cost me an arm and a leg.  I went into City of Ink and was greeted by cool, laid back artsy people that made me feel right at home (the cup of wine may have helped too). The artist came up with a cool design and in less than a hour I was branded. Â
The guys here are real gentlemen, which is real important when u are getting a tat in places only yo mama (or yo man) should see. Â I am already planning my next tat and I will definitely be going back to City of Ink to get it done.
Hmmmm, YOU GOTTA love this place. From the owners Miya & Tuki to the other Artist that make up City of Ink.
It's definitely a welcoming place. Every tattoo is custom designed. You will NOT find any stencils on the wall to choose from, here. The men and women that make up this shop are all very talented. And the best part of it all, you don't even have to make an appointment just walk right in. YAAAAAAYYYYY
They are extremely clean and sterile, very well managed...
Now, don't fret if you're not a tattoo enthusiast this place is also an Art Gallery (How cool is that). Â Once a month, during the Castleberry Hill Art Stroll, they display works of art that will blow you away. Also, the DJ (that's also part of the COI fam.) blesses everyone with some amazing sounds during the event.
Every month is a different theme, with different artists. The art shows are definitely a blast.
The dope part about the entire shop is the Tattoo Artist. Â They are all amazing Fine Artists, some are clothing designers, graphic designers, etc. Ultimately, some all around creative, talented individuals.
Tattoos, Art, Laughter and Positive Vibes, YOU CAN GET IT ALL from this place.
City of Ink ROCKS! ! !
Tattoo enthusiasts in and around Atlanta should already know about the City of Ink Art and Tattoo Gallery. But, if you're a virgin at getting "inked," or new to the city and looking for a spot place to get quality body art, the City of Ink should  be the first place you stop. Because the space is set up to hold large groups of people, the City of Ink also holds art shows and other events that connects like-minded people who love being surrounded by mind-blowing aesthetics.
The gallery's owners and tattooists are all fine artists as well, which is why the tat shop doubles as an art gallery so perfectly. Each artist has a style of their own which reflects in their paintings as well as the freehand tattoos they create for those getting inked, but each piece that adorns the walls of the gallery compliments the others so it becomes one cohesive style that effectively represents the City of Ink lifestyle and love of art.
If you're into hype and the talent and energy alone of this spot doesn't sell you on getting your next sleeve or symbol at the City of Ink, you may be impressed by the fact that several celebs have been tattooed at CIO. Impressively, Julia, one of the artists who took part in the height of the tattoo revolution, put a needle to the legendary Tupac Shakur.
City of Ink is located in the Castleberry Hill area of Atlanta, which is a hotbed for several fabulous art galleries. It's in the perfect spot for art lovers and those who like to think outside of the box!
